Something For The Fellas

Something For The Fellas

Hello! Whenever I go shopping at TJMaxx, I always shop the men’s department too in case there is something that Johnny might like. I absolutely adore my husband’s style so it is really fun to pick clothes out for him. It’s also nice to save some dough at TJs too because the websites that Johnny likes to order from are pretty pricey. What can I say, we both have expensive taste! Johnny is very partial to graphic button downs and I have had moderate success when I look for them at TJs. This past shopping trip was a great success, however, because they added a ton of button downs to the men’s department!

^^^ Once again, don’t mind my broken nail lol

The first thing I noticed when I ventured to the men’s section was a display rack filled with summer button downs. They also had matching shorts, but Johnny’s size small looked way too small and the mediums looked gigantic. But I digress so back to the shirts! There were at least five different patterns to pick from in a cool, breezy fabric. I knew which one I liked the best immediately, but I sent Johnny pictures so he could decide for himself. He, too, liked the one you see above the most so into the cart it went and it was only twelve dollars. You just can’t beat that. 😀

The shirt and short sets by Massive were fantastic and they screamed Johnny right off the rip. In fact, he has quite a few pairs of matching shirts and shorts and calls it his “loungeware” lol. While I understand the merits of that because they look insanely comfortable, I can’t wait to see him wear his new shirt when we are out and about. Johnny’s style is very retro and this button down emulated that perfectly. The muted colors with the 70s-esque pattern is everything and it had me wishing that I could find something similar in a dress or skirt for myself!

If the button down above looks like something your SO might like, RUN don’t walk to TJMaxx. You might hit the jackpot and pay a song for it. I was glad to be able to buy a treat for my main squeeze and the price was oh so nice!

What is your favorite era of fashion? How would you describe your SO’s style? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Date Night OOTD

Date Night OOTD

Hello! This past Friday, I enjoyed a wonderful date night with my sweet Johnny. To me, there is nothing better than a night out with my husband because it means we will both be serving looks! I absolutely love getting dressed up with Johnny because we both have really unique personal styles and it’s fun to show that off together. We are definitely a couple that turns heads when we step out because of bold fashion choices, body mods, and big personalities. It just adds to that “night on the town” vibe and it is simply the best! This is what I wore for our dinner date:

image_50739969(5)image_50430209(10)image_50416129(8)image_50439937(7)image_50756865(2)image_50453249(3)

Who? What? Wear?

Oversized Button Down: Zara

Tank Top: Rachel Zoe, TJMaxx

Skinny Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters

Skeleton Platforms: Dolls Kill

Skeleton Hand Earrings: These were a Christmas gift from my bestie!

Wooden Necklace: Made by John Deveer

As per ushie in Ohio, you just never know what kind of weather you are going to get. On Friday, it was in the high forties and pretty overcast so I knew that I didn’t want to wear anything too heavy, but still be covered up against the cold. As I browsed my wardrobe boutique, my oversized button down by Zara caught my eye. Not only has it never been worn in an OOTD post before, but it was just what I needed for the weather. This button down clearly has a very grungy vibe given the color, length, and the phrase “there are no rules” plastered across the back. With a piece as obviously as one particular style as this one, all that was left to do was go grunge to complete the look!

The next order of business was a top to wear under the button down and I kept things simple with a plain white tank. While I could have gone the band tee route, I still wanted to be able to show off my shape. When you’re petite and rocking an oversize piece, it’s important that the rest of the look fits like a glove to keep from being totally overwhelmed by fabric! I slipped on my black skinnies afterwards and tucked the tank in so that the high waisted fit could be seen. Normally, I don’t care for high waisted, but this was a strategic move to give myself some more shape underneath the button down.

Finally, it was onto shoes and accessories. For shoes, I immediately went with my skeleton platforms from Dolls Kill. These just scream “grunge” to me and I thought they made my legs look a mile long! I popped on a pair of gorgeous skeleton hand earrings my bestie bought me next, but still needed something more. After shopping my accessories department, I chose a handmade necklace I got in Atlanta with my mom and brother. It is one of my favorites and I thought it tied the look together beautifully because it blended so seamlessly with the established palette. With that, I was ready for a fabulous night out!

Johnny and I were both huge fans of my Date Night OOTD and it was compliment central when we were at Mike’s Place. There is nothing better than rave reviews for an outfit and it made me feel so good! ❤

How would you describe your personal style? What is your partner or best friend’s style like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Jane + Delancey Button Down

Hello darlings and Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! This past Thursday, I had a surprise afternoon off and was able to spend that time with my mom for a girls day out. We started our extravaganza with a delicious lunch at Panera and then shopped till we dropped at TJMaxx. It was perfect and we had so much fun together doing two of my favorite activities – shopping and lunching lol. We also went to TJMaxx at a great time too because all of their new spring arrivals were out and it was glorious. You’ll see more from my haul after a brand new OOTD tomorrow! Now, check out this adorable Jane + Delancey Button Down:

image_50441217(9)image_50408961(5)image_50401025(3)

Naturally at TJs, there was a lot of Valentine’s Day apparel on display. Normally, I am not one for holiday themed clothes because the time you can wear them is so limited. I like clothes that will work for a majority of the seasons or year round. However, I just had to add the heart adorned button down from Jane + Delancey to my try on pile. The stark white base with the red embroidered hearts spoke to me and it was so different than the other V-Day clothes available. I was drowning in a sea of pink!

Although I loved the shirt on the hanger, I wasn’t completely sold on it. That is, until I tried it on! As soon as I looked at myself in the mirror, I knew it was a winner and, most importantly, my mom agreed too. The fit of the button down was oversized without being huge. It looked flirty and fun and it surprised me by being something that I would happily wear beyond February. I can’t wait to wear it in the summer tucked into a pair of jean shorts with a cute pair of wedges. This top looked even better on than I could have imagined and I can’t wait for you to see it in the OOTD post tomorrow. 🙂

I hope all of you have a wonderful V-Day! You are all my Valentines and thank you for continuing to tune into all of the latest and greatest here on lifewithlilred! ❤

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day? How do you feel about holiday themed clothes? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Quick Updates For Your Spring Wardrobe

Quick Updates For Your Spring Wardrobe

Hello!! Unless you really do need a whole new wardrobe at a season change, typically, seasonal shopping is just about adding a few new pieces to update your closet. A handful of spring statement pieces gives you the opportunity to change how you style the clothes and accessories you already have, instantly making your entire wardrobe feel new again. While a huge haul of clothes is always nice, it is not necessary and, today, we’re going to talk about a few key pieces to add into your cart during your spring shopping:

Longer Skirt:

It can still be cold in the spring time and, despite the sun shining, it isn’t quite time for the mini skirts just yet! Mid to midi or tea length skirts are perfect for spring. This length will not only provide a little extra warmth but will make you the belle of a social distanced garden party with friends. A skirt also gives a great opportunity to incorporate a bold pattern or color into your closet that you might not want in a shirt or dress.

Lovely skirts are a fun way to give your outfit some movement too! Opt for one with pleats, ruffles, or a high low length to let your clothing put on a show when you’re walking around the farmer’s market. Don’t forget that on colder days, you can always slip a pair of tights on beneath your skirt! And, paired with a crop top, it will make an easy piece to transition into summer.

Speaking Of Tights:

While shopping, grab yourself a couple of pairs of tights to sport this spring. Of course, they are great underneath skirts or floral dresses but they are also so cute when worn under a pair of shorts! If your heart is screaming “summer”, break out your favorite pair of denim shorts and pair them with colored or patterned tights, a tucked in top, and a light jacket to incorporate summer clothes while still being weather appropriate. I tend to prefer white or pale pink tights in the spring because it gives such a sweet touch of girliness but any tights you like will do!

Pastel Accessories:

Pastel hues are huge in spring but, unfortunately, pastel shades just wash me out. I look a lot better in gem tones and if that is the case for you too, then incorporate pastels into your accessories instead. Statement purses, big sunglasses, silky scarves, and parasols in pastel shades will still give your outfit some spring flare while keeping your clothes in colors that you prefer. Don’t forget pastel hued kitten heels. Adorable! Updating your accessories with the season is also way cheaper than buying lots of new clothes.

Sharp Button Downs:

Spring is a fun season to style for because you get to play with several different silhouettes and materials. People often associate gauzy, silky, flowy fabrics with spring and there is nothing wrong with that. However, you still need pieces that will give your outfit structure so all of the billowy ones don’t overpower you. A well fitting button down with long or short sleeves will do the job just fine. As established, a button down looks great with a flowy skirt but it will also pair perfectly with gauchos and paper bag shorts. Remember to add a more structured piece to your look if you are rocking breezy materials to best enhance your shape.

Update Your Color Palette:

It is no secret that I prefer to wear dark colors over light and that black is usually my go to color. However, fashion is no fun if you can’t experiment with different shades, especially in the warmer months! Spring is the best time to try out other neutral colors like navy, white, and tan. I used to shy away from all of those colors but I love to wear them now and it definitely has made my wardrobe more interesting. You don’t have to go overboard with it but in the spring time, the pop of color technique is much more effective when it’s against a lighter shade.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to update your spring wardrobe. Go for a few of the pieces mentioned above and you will be all set to step out in style on the first warm day!

What is your go to neutral color? How do you update your wardrobe with the seasons? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Ralph Lauren Polka Dot Button Down

New Ralph Lauren Polka Dot Button Down

Howdy! As I get older, I become less worried about buying trendy clothing as opposed to classic pieces that I will have for forever. While shopping, I look for quality as well as timeless shapes with a little bit of that Lil Rid pizazz to keep it interesting. I am a huge fan of button down tops for that reason, because you can dress them up or down, they fit well, and you can always find them in a fun pattern. Like this Ralph Lauren button down, for example:

rlrl4rl1rl2

I absolutely love this top for a few reasons. The navy blue base with the bright green polka dots definitely makes a statement. And, the fit of it is form fitting without being too tight as to leave spaces in between the buttons. This is definitely a problem for me as a more busty girl and it’s hard to find a button down that I can buy in my actual size as opposed to one larger, making it loose and less flattering. I felt good and downright sexy in my button down because I didn’t have to worry about button bulges or it being too tight over my breasts.

I also am excited about all of the styling possibilities that come with this shirt. Obviously, it is super appropriate for business casual work meetings. But, the real fun will come in styling this top for play. I can see myself wearing this little RL number tucked into shorts during the summer time along with a fun pair of espadrilles and a floppy hat for an OOTD perfect for hitting the outdoor farmers markets with. Don’t forget the big sunglasses!

How do you dress a button down up or down? What are some timeless pieces that you have in your closet? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fall Haul: Camo Velvet Heart Top

Fall Haul: Camo Velvet Heart Top

Hello!! One print that I happen to like a lot but don’t own any of is camouflage. I’ve always loved the idea of finding a great pair of camo skinnies or a jacket but I just have never found the one that works for me. So, when I came across this little button up number by Velvet Heart during my TJMaxx Fall Haul, I had to give it a try. And, despite my mom and sister not loving it, it came home with me and I am very much looking forward to sporting it during the last days of summer and throughout the fall. Check it out:

camocamo1

To me, the camo print is so edgy despite it being quite utilitarian and I like that because it means I have lots of options when styling it. While the warm weather is still among us, I plan on just wearing this top tucked into jean shorts with my Peter Grimm strapped hat for a safari chic OOTD. But, when the temperatures drop, I can totally layer it over a tight fitting sweater for extra warmth while sacrificing none of the cuteness.

Camo makes a statement, but it doesn’t completely make the outfit. And, nothing will look better with the deep green palette of my new button down then some… you guessed it: CHUNKY GOLD JEWELRY! More specifically, my cheetah embellished gold chain from yesterday’s post. It will fit snugly beneath the collar with the cheetah popping out of the green leaves just like in its natural jungle habitat. Pair it with some chic black ankle boots and skinny jeans and you’re ready for a look that will turn heads despite the camo’s purpose of blending in. Now, that’s an outfit!

What are some of your favorite patterns? How do you style camouflage? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Rachel Zoe Top

New Rachel Zoe Top

Helloooo! This past Saturday, I spent a lovely afternoon shopping at TJMaxx with my mom. I had a birthday gift card as well as TJ’s cash to spend from their credit card so it was definitely burning a hole in both of our pockets! I had a great haul that included two new necklaces, a pair of sunglasses (all of which you will see later), and my new favorite top by Rachel Zoe. Take a look:

zoe2zoe3zoe1

I am absolutely in love with this slate grey button down top. It is so simple but the unique color really makes a statement. It has the slightest lavender undertones in it, which just pops against my complexion and tattoos. It’s funny, because before I became heavily tattooed, I would have dubbed a shirt like this as “boring”. But, with all of these inked on accessories, it takes even the most plain top to the next level.

In the fitting room, I tried this Rachel Zoe number tucked into my little blue denim shorts and it made a statement. Then, I tried on a white hi-lo dress with a bright colored pattern and it looked too much with all of the colors already happening on my skin. But, pre-tattooed Sarah would have been all over it and it probably would have looked quite nice! Talk about a total 180, lol.

As I get older, I have learned the power of styling simple but chic outfits. As well as the necessity for clothing that fits just right. This top with my shorts along with a cool pair of summer wedges and a rosary style necklace is all I really needed and it made me feel beautiful. It was also fun to let my tattoos do the talking against a more neutral color palette. So excited to wear this OOTD out and about ASAFP!

How would you style this top for summer? What are some of your styling tips for ultimate chicness? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Love Notes Cropped Button Down

New Love Notes Cropped Button Down

Heyyyyyyy. One style of top that I have grown increasingly fond of as of late is the button down. I LOVE them and have began to accumulate quite the collection. And, my love grows even more specific, because I always seem to be drawn to blue, vertical striped button downs – like this cropped cutie by Love Notes seen below:

mini5mini6mini7

  • TJMaxx Price: $13

I really freaking like this shirt and, yes, it does look fabulous underneath the sleeveless hoodie that I wrote about yesterday! This top reminds me a lot of clothing from Zara and getting it for a fraction of what it would have costed there makes it an even sweeter buy. My new Love Notes lovely shows what looks like geese in different stages of flight and it’s just a cool pattern to have over the blue stripes.

Not only is the pattern of this top unique, but so is the style of it because it’s cropped. I am so looking forward to pairing this with black shorts this summer and maybe even during the spring with tights underneath for a quirky fun look. Everything about this top is a score for me and you definitely can’t beat a thirteen dollar price tag!

What is your favorite style of top? Who else is an avid fan of the button down? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Cool In Karl Lagerfeld

Cool In Karl Lagerfeld

Howdy! Everyone who knows anything about fashion knows about Karl Lagerfeld, the amazing head of Chanel, Fendi, and his self titled brands. Karl is an icon, and part of what makes him so are his signature aviator sunglasses, which he wouldn’t be caught dead without. So what better way to give an ode to the man behind the shades, than with a sharp white button down literally covered in them? Take a look:

karlkarl1

I nabbed this ah-may-zing shirt at TJMaxx as they were putting it on the rack for thirty dollars and I am so in love. Not only does this shirt give an extra pop of stark white to my wardrobe, which I’ve been working on adding, but it makes me feel devastatingly chic to own this top that feels so completely Karl. Am I a person who is overly concerned about labels? Not really. But, my god, does it feel good to have something with Karl Lagerfeld’s name on the tag. And I can definitely swing thirty dollars instead of the ninety dollar price point that I found on his website.

I am SO looking forward to pairing this top with black skinny jeans, black ankle booties, and a moto jacket so that the bright white top can really shine against All Black Everything. And, of course, a red lip is a total necessity for this look. This button down is great for a cheeky look for work and is an instant hit for all things play. I am freaking obsessed. And, yes, aviator sunglasses are absolutely required.

I feel so helplessly Cool In Karl Lagerfeld and I am ready to take on the day without taking off my sunnies as an ode to the gorgeous fashion mastermind. Who is a designer that you go gaga for? How do you score designer duds for a deal? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Unsung Wardrobe Heroes: Hollister Flannel Edition

Unsung Wardrobe Heroes: Hollister Flannel Edition

Hi everyone and happy Monday! Today in Unsung Wardrobe Heroes, we are going to discuss a Goodwill find that has been giving and giving for well over FIVE YEARS now. My favorite flannel is said Goodwill find and I got it for a whole four dolla holla. It is Hollister brand, which I normally never wear, but at four dollars and a new but used condition – how can you not? Take a look and let’s discuss:

pinup4afidog5

What I love the most about this button down is its versatility. I can wear it unbuttoned over a crop top, buttoned up with a blazer over top of it for work, or buttoned with a moto jacket for play. And can we talk about its ability to create the perfect pinup girl look simply by tying it in a cropped knot? So flirty and fun! This top looks great with virtually anything and the checked pattern is classic, which creates a timeless look with every wear.

My favorite way to wear this top currently is buttoned down under a blazer. I love wearing it like this for work, because it creates a really true business casual look. My oversized boyfriend blazer looks cool and chic over this more closely fitted top and it takes it from a top for play to a top for work in an instant. At twenty-three, I never want to look stuffy when I’m with my clients, and this look keeps me feeling youthful and fresh, while still professional.

I normally don’t shop Goodwill or Plato’s Closet for the simple reason that I’m a pretty intense germophobe, so I don’t get a lot of pleasure in going. However, I faced my fear and I wound up with one of my go to tops in my wardrobe so maybe I should do it more often!

So there you have it, this week’s issue of Unsung Wardrobe Heroes: Hollister Flannel Edition! How do you fight germophobia while thrifting? What is your favorite thrift store find? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
