If The Shoe Fits: Forever 21 Heeled Combat Boots Edition

Hello! After what felt like going forever without shopping, I finally caved and treated myself to some goodies online from Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. There is nothing like packages arriving at my front door to help perk myself up and I now think I can hold off until the fateful day when I feel safe to shop at TJMaxx. Maybe.

So, while I mull over that decision, check out these new white heeled combat boots from Forever 21:

If there’s one thing Lil Red loves, it’s a good combat boot. I have flat combat boots and heeled ones and ninety-nine percent of them are… Yep, you guessed it: All black everything. So, as you can imagine, it made it impossible to say no to a new crisp white pair to add some variety to my combat boot collection.

I love the fresh take on the grunge style that these shoes give me with the unique color palette but they are still such a classic shape and I think they are really cool. Of course, crunching through the snow in these bad boys next winter will be a treat. But, can we please talk about how cute these will be paired with short shorts and cute tights or socks come summer? Living for it!

I paid around thirty dollars for these new boots and I considered it a steal, especially because I’m sure I would pay around the same amount at TJs. Now, if only I could break free from my comfy cozy quarantine wardrobe long enough to actually wear them!

What is your favorite style of shoes? How do you give a nod to grunge style? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

OOTD: Grungy Chic Edition

Hey everyone and happy weekend! A few weeks ago, my super cool photographer beau took some super cool pictures of yours truly that I wanted to share with you. Not only are the pictures fabulous, but I loved my grungy chic outfit that meshed perfectly with the graffiti that was under the bridge where we were shooting, so this can be an OOTD post, too. Check it out:

Who? What? Where?

When I’m styling a grunge inspired look, it’s important to me that there’s more going on to the OOTD than just a fresh out of the 90’s garage band ensemble. Anyone can throw on an oversized flannel and call it grunge, but adding your own personal touches to the look is what takes it over the edge. This is why I opted to throw some glam accessories into the mix to make the chic in “grungy chic” appropriately used.

I started styling this look with a fairly simple base in mind. I opted for my frayed capri skinnies from Loft to add some cool texture. I also felt that these looked more rough and tumble than your standard ankle skinnies. And, of course, nothing tips its cap to the 90’s more than a Nirvana themed crop top.

The decision for what to wear over top of my Brandy Melville crop came next. And, rather than going with your traditional baggy flannel, I went for a sleeveless hoodie, instead. I liked what this Kyodan piece brought to the table for several reasons. 1) It was still oversized over a more tight fitting top. 2) I liked the visual break up it gave to the outfit. 3) And, finally, this hoodie offered a lot of variety in ways that you could wear it. From unzipped to zipped or with the hood up, it gave options. This is essential in styling any outfit but, especially one that you’re being photographed in.

To complete this look, I began accessorizing. I didn’t want to go overboard with accessories, but I wanted each one to make a statement. I also didn’t want to upset the color palette that I had going, so I stuck with more subdued pieces. The gold hoop earrings were a definite must, because they added the perfect touch of glam while still being really sassy and fun. They also move well, which makes for interesting shapes in pictures.

I chose my white Foley + Corinna purse in this look because, even though it was a neutral color, the stark white popped so nicely against the bleak palette of the clothing. It also offered hints of grunge with the chain link strap and the spiked decals. Finally, to bring pure glam rock into the look, I went with my Forever 21 platforms. I loved how the different shades of black in my OOTD played against each other and, any outfit of mine wouldn’t be complete without a Lil Red in it! ;D

This outfit made me feel like a total rock star, but the overall price of it fit into my struggling artist budget as a majority of the pieces came from TJMaxx. My Grungy Chic OOTD is a good example of how you can incorporate multiple different styles into one look by accessorizing. This OOTD gave a nod to all things rock and I felt like I was ready to take on the stage because of it… In my dreams, at least!

How would you style a Grungy Chic OOTD? How do you use accessories to complete an outfit? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Accessory Story: Bandana Babe Edition

Accessory Story: Bandana Babe Edition

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! So one of the accessories that I have a very deep love for is the bandana. I think that they are one of the most underrated accessories out there, actually, but that’s just fine with me because I think that that makes them even cooler. When people think of bandanas, they usually think of good ol’ country folk that are riding horses and milking cows at sun rise. So not the case with me! I think that bandanas are a very edgy edition to any outfit and I use them to add a touch of grunge to my looks frequently.

This past weekend, I scored a little ten dollar treat at Target that just so happens to be a…you guessed it: BANDANA! But the fun thing about it is that it’s actually a necklace with some really pretty embellishment for an added pop of glam. Take a look:

^^^ So adorable!

Granted, this isn’t my usual black or navy blue bandana, but it only seems fitting that Lil Red finally has a literal lil red bandana of her own! Normally I don’t care for other objects trying to be a bandana. For example, I freaking HATE headbands that have the look of a bandana but are really just a circular piece of cloth. Despite those feelings, I really like this little necklace! It’s cute and pretty without going overboard and I love the way that the silver and white gems pop against the red background.

One of my favorite ways to wear a bandana is with a flannel to add some visual contrast to the look. I am excited to pair this necklace with my black and white as well as navy blue checked flannels along with a killer pair of skinny jeans and ankle booties. This Target treasure will also be great to wear with a band or fun slogan-ed T-shirt on a lazy day to give a little extra something something to the outfit.

My only concern is if I should store my new necklace with my jewelry or tucked safely inside my accessory drawer, instead. I’m leaning towards the accessory drawer, though, because I would hate to see the cloth collect dust, which is something that you normally don’t have to worry about when it comes to necklaces!

Target has a bunch of super cute spring and summer accessories available at the moment so if you have one near you, get to shopping ASAP! And make sure you grab yourself a bandana necklace so we can twin it up!

So there you have it, the latest issue of Accessory Story: Bandana Babe Edition! Who else is an avid bandana lover? How do you style bandanas into your outfits? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
