Moulin Rouge At Playhouse Square Review

Hello!! This past weekend, Johnny and I had a wonderful date night seeing Moulin Rouge at Playhouse Square. We had an absolute blast and you can read more about the rest of our outing and peep a brand new OOTD later this week! Playhouse Square is my happy place and even though Moulin Rouge wasn’t my favorite, it was still phenomenal as per ushe with the shows put on there. Let’s get to the review:

image_50456833(8)image_50739969(3)image_16831745image_50428673(6)image_50451457(5)

Johnny and I went to Moulin Rouge knowing nothing about it. We have never seen the movie and the only songs that I was familiar with going in was Lady Marmalade and Because We Can. Long story short… The Moulin Rouge is a nightclub that is falling on desperate times. If a financial windfall doesn’t happen, it is sure to close. Luckily for the crew at the Moulin Rouge, a wealthy man called The Duke takes an interest in Satine, the “sparkling diamond” of the club. Satine knows what she needs to do to get The Duke’s money and as she awaits him in her boudoir, a mix up happens. *gasp*

Instead of The Duke coming into Satine’s room, Christian who is an aspiring songwriter and hoping to audition for Satine arrives first. It is instant love and a love triangle is born between Satine, The Duke, and Christian. The Duke agrees to fund a new play and as rehearsals are underway, Satine and Christian are sneaking around like teenagers. That’s not the only secret Satine is harboring, as she is in poor health. As opening night at the Moulin Rouge draws nearer, The Duke becomes more controlling, Christian and Satine’s love amplifies, and her condition continues to decline. Will the Moulin Rouge have to shut its doors? Will true love win? Go see the musical to find out! 😉

Before we discuss the good of the show, let’s get a few bugaboos out of the way. My main qualm actually had nothing to do with the performance itself, but the theater it was in. Moulin Rouge was showing at the Keybank State Theatre and the sound quality isn’t the best there. Johnny and I had great seats in the middle of the first row of the balcony and while we could hear the songs perfectly, all of the spoken lines were near impossible to hear. This was frustrating, to say the least, but unsurprising. Every show that I have seen at the Keybank is like that! *face palm*

My next gripe was both a good and a bad thing. More good than bad, it’s just a matter of preference for me. The songs in Moulin Rouge were all popular hits and each number would end in a mashup. You could basically turn on the radio and there is a 95% chance you would hear one of the songs from the show. I much prefer a musical with songs written specifically for it. But, on the other hand, it was fun to hear songs that you know instantly throughout the show. It was hard not to sing along!

Despite my personal preference for songs from musicals, the set list was full of bangers. Banger after banger lol. We’re talking Britney, we’re talking Beyonce, we’re talking Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Adele, Elton, and so much more. My favorite number was to Sia’s Chandelier when Christian goes on an absinthe bender. I also loved the tango set to Roxanne and the adorable love song mashup with songs that included I Will Always Love You, Heroes, and Pride (In the Name of Love) just to name a few.

And, finally, let’s discuss the wonderful performers who graced the stage. Courtney Reed as Satine was phenomenal. That girl could SANG and I was so impressed with her range and ability to capture the essence of each song perfectly. John Cardoza as Christian was a formidable leading man and I liked his sensitivity in contrast to Satine’s strength. Both Reed and Cardoza worked so well together and carried the show beautifully.

Another character that Johnny and I loved was Harold Zidler, the owner of Moulin Rouge, played by Austin Durant. He was hysterical and a really fun addition to every scene. While all of the performers held their own well, I wasn’t overly impressed with Denzel Tsopnang as The Duke. His character is not a good person. The Duke is controlling, menacing, and aggressive and I just didn’t feel that in his portrayal. He definitely fell flat in comparison to the rest of the cast, which was disappointing as it is such a major part.

Moulin Rouge was, overall, an awesome show. It wasn’t the best thing that I have seen, but I’m really happy that I got to see it. In fact, Johnny and I enjoyed it so much that we are going to watch the movie! If Moulin Rouge comes to your neck of the woods, I highly recommend getting tickets!

What is your favorite song from Moulin Rouge? Have you seen a musical recently? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: The Nightmare Man By J.H. Markert Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! Now that I have had more time to read, I have been ravenous and completed two books in a little over a week. Last book club, we discussed a horror thriller and, today, we will be chatting about another one called The Nightmare Man by J.H. Markert. Like the last book, I will be placing a MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING on The Nightmare Man before we begin for gruesome violence, disturbing content, assault in all forms, and severe mental illnesses. Not interested? Please skip this post! Still want to learn more? Then let’s get to it in a spoiler free setting:

image_50422785(8)

Ben Bookman, a famous horror author dubbed The Nightmare Man had a troubled upbringing. So much so that it’s no wonder he ended up as the celebrated writer he is today. His parents were both addicts and so he, his older sister, and little brother who went missing spent a lot of time with their grandpa at Blackwood Mansion. Grandpa Robert was a child psychiatrist who specialized in nightmares. His property was also home to a separate building, Oswald’s Asylum for the criminally insane.

During Ben’s childhood, he loved going to stay with Grandpa Robert because of the massive book collection. Each wall was covered floor to ceiling in them. There was also an atrium which housed books too, books of a strange kind. Books that had no writing in them at all, but the words would appear if they were opened long enough. Ben was always eager for a trip to the atrium and looked forward to bedtime stories each night of how nightmares came to be and how to stop them.

Fast forward to present day, and Ben’s new horror novel, The Scarecrow, has just been released. He will be doing a signing at the bookstore in his hometown of Crooked Tree and is ready for it to be over with. The signing did get cut short, but not for a good reason. An older man approached Ben’s table with the claim that his nightmare was “stolen” and kills himself. Yes, Ben’s books are nightmarish but this man’s nightmare specifically? He knows nothing about it.

Despite Crooked Tree’s sleepy appearance, it is a town where crime runs rampant and children disappear somewhat regularly. Detective Mills and his daughter, Detective Blue, arrive on a farm after a tip was called in from the mailman. In the barn, they find cocoons made of corn husks that house the slayed family. However, the little girl was found in her husk cocoon alive. Another murder of an equally gruesome nature happens, and another. All of these killings have something in common – they are down to the detail replicas of the murders in Ben’s book, The Scarecrow.

Ben becomes suspect numero uno in the case and is arrested after some questionable items are found at his home. After some good old fashioned police work, the real killer is found and says he was just doing what he was told. But, something is niggling at Ben and Detectives Mills and Blue. Could nightmares really be real? And, if so, are there more out there?

Time is running short for a girl who recently went missing and this particular nightmare belonged to Ben’s father. And, as Detective Mills reworks old cases to find a connection he learns that each perpetrator was plagued by nightmares and treated by Ben’s grandpa. To find the solution, they must return to the place where it all began – Blackwood Mansion. Will the nightmares end once and for all? Or will Crooked Tree continue to be the home for bad dreams come true? Read The Nightmare Man to find out!

I will be the first to admit that the plot to The Nightmare Man was pretty convoluted. There was so much happening and so many characters that I can see why several reviewers said it was confusing. I didn’t have that issue, which is probably why I enjoyed it a lot! Yes, the plot was absolutely farfetched. But, I thought that it was really well written and an interesting take on a horror novel. It felt very Stephen King – terrifying albeit a little campy and I was there for it.

The Nightmare Man went back and forth between Ben and Detective Mills in both past and present day, which you all know I love. While Ben was erratic, Detective Mills was cool as a cucumber and hilarious. I liked a majority of the characters for the most part, but Mills was definitely my favorite. He was your stereotypical grumpy old man who refused to retire from the force out of spite. Him and his daughter’s relationship was very estranged so it was nice to see them try and come together to solve the case.

There were a lot of minor twists and turns throughout The Nightmare Man and I didn’t manage to solve the grand reveal. It was a good one and and really helped tie the whole story together as there were a lot of loose ends. Once the reveal was revealed, I realized that my blinders were on for the entire book. So, if you like to play detective just be sure to keep an open mind!

I am going to rate The Nightmare Man with a six and a half out of ten stars. Every time I opened it up, I liked it. The plot was very creative and I think that I enjoyed bits and pieces of it more than the whole thing. This is a book that you can take or leave, but I’d recommend if you are looking for a unique horror thriller. Not bad!

What are you currently reading? What should I read next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Watercolor Pansies

Watercolor Pansies

Hello!! My mom and I really enjoy watercolor painting and it is such a fun and different medium of art to work with. With all of the craziness going on in both of our lives, we haven’t been able to paint as often as we would like. In fact, the last time we painted together was back in March! During that painting session, I tried my hand at pansies and was pretty pleased with the outcome as I had never tried it before.

This past week, we finally got to paint together and I decided to pick up where I left off with pansies. I wasn’t as happy as I was with the ones you’re about to see as the previous effort. However, I hadn’t painted in months and we all have to start (again) somewhere! Check out the image I was trying to pull from and my attempts:

image_6483441(12)image_50369025

After sketching out a basic outline for each flower, I began painting the top right pansy. Obviously, it was a bit of a bust and my mistake was being impatient AF. I gave no time for literally anything to sit and the blob flower became a muddled mess. I was feeling frustrated because my previous pansies were not the best but certainly not the worst and this one just sucked lol. So, I had to regroup, take a breath, and remember that patience is a virtue in life and especially with watercolor!

For the following flowers, I tried really hard to take my time and use the paints and water to my advantage. I also channeled the advice from a previous watercolor teacher to use areas of no paint within what you are working on too. The next flower I attempted was the one in the bottom left and I still wasn’t feeling it, but it was getting closer. Then, I had a brain blast and remembered how I did my original pansies!

The first time I painted pansies, I did a rough outline and then started in the middle. I began with the yellow center and line detailing and waited for it to dry. Then, I applied a light wash of paint, blotted it, and moved onto the next color. I used my original method for the middle right pansy and was much happier with how it turned out. There was even some areas of white to accent the red and orange too. That was much more like it and I ended my painting session feeling satisfied with the top left, two middle, and bottom right pansies.

I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t slightly disappointed with how my pansies turned out. But, I reminded myself that it was a great first go after an over three month long hiatus. After I shook away the blahs, I felt motivated to paint more so I never have to restart my progress again. I can’t wait for my next painting session with my mom!

What helps motivate you after a disappointment? Have you tried any new artistic ventures recently? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Homemade Rose Oil

Homemade Rose Oil

Hello!!!! Way back in the day, I used to really enjoy making homemade bath and body care like scrubs, shower gels, and lip balms. It has been SO long since I have done that but it was always a blast! This past week, I decided to revisit one of my old hobbies by making some rose oil with petals from a gorgeous bouquet at my mom and dad’s house. It was insanely easy and, even though I wasn’t too fond of the smell, it was an amazing addition to my bubble bath. No thanks to the bath fizzy from Bath & Body Works that you all read about yesterday! Let’s get to it:

image_50441985(6)

Step By Step:

I made my rose oil by following directions from a surprising source – an article posted by HGTV! Directions for making rose water were also included and I might try that next with the remaining flowers from the bouquet I used. A rose oil concoction went a little something like this:

Step One: Tear or shred your petals. For mine, I took several at a time and tore them in half.

image_50443009(5)

Step Two: Pour a cup of oil into a jar with the petals. Jojoba and grapeseed oil were recommended, but I didn’t have any. However, they mentioned that olive oil would work well too so that is what I used.

image_50739201(3)

Step Three: Bring a few inches of water to a raging boil and remove from heat. Place your jar of oil and petals in afterwards until the water cools.

image_50440705(3)image_50373121(1)

Step Four: Place your jar in front of a sunny window and let it sit for 24 hours.

Step Five: The next day, remove your petals from the jar and squeeze out all of the oil you can from them. To do this, I started pouring the oil with the lid slightly on into another jar. Once a majority of the oil was removed, I used a spoon to press the petals and store the excess.

image_50412033(2)

Easy peasy, right?! Making homemade rose oil was a quick and fun project and I was really pleased with the results. I poured some of my rose oil in the bath tub and it was so lux and lovely. Yes, it was a freaking pain to clean up the oil slick tub after my soak. BUT my skin felt fantastic and it still does several days later. I have noticed a huge difference in the softness of my skin and it feels nourished and healthy. I can’t wait to use it again during my next bath time self care sesh!

Concocting your own rose oil is a wonderful way to bring a second life to roses from your garden or a bouquet. Once again, you can view the directions that I followed here. Tune in tomorrow on lifewithlilred for more flowery vibes as we take a look at my first watercolor painting I have done in a minute!

What is your favorite flower? Do you like to make any crafts or bath and body care with flowers? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath Bomb Blitz: Bath & Body Works Confetti Cupcake Fizzy Edition

Bath Bomb Blitz: Bath & Body Works Confetti Cupcake Fizzy Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Bath Bomb Blitz! Today, we are going to be discussing the Confetti Cupcake bath fizzy that I purchased from Bath & Body Works during an April haul. This was definitely an impulse buy because the last fizzy I used from B&BW was very unimpressive – I just thought the cupcake was adorable lol. Unfortunately, the Confetti Cupcake fizzy sucked on ice too and I think B&BW knows it because I haven’t seen them in store in months. Let’s get to it:

image_50367233(4)image_50355201(1)

My first impression of the scent of this bath fizzy wasn’t a good one. I was expecting more of a cake batter fragrance and it just wasn’t lol. It kind of smelled like the Champagne Toast line, but definitely not as sweet. This wasn’t a huge deal, but it didn’t start the bath time experience off on the strongest note. Then, I dropped the fizzy into the water and it got worse from there!

Once the fizzy was in the water, it started dissolving at a rapid speed. Within about twenty or so seconds, it was completely fizzed out. In that time, all it did was turn my bath water a very murky pale pink, which you can see above. It looked gross! Even if I didn’t know the joys of a bath bomb from Lush, I still would have been like “wtf?”. In fact, my bath time would have been more pleasant if I didn’t use the fizzy at all because who wants to sink into water that looks contaminated?!

I shouldn’t be surprised that the Confetti Cupcake fizzy was disappointing because of my last experience. However, it was still shocking to see a ten dollar product work this poorly. If you happen to see a bath fizzy at B&BW, DON’T BOTHER! It won’t make a good gift for you or someone else and there are countless other wonderful goodies available that you could be spending your money on. Epic. Failure.

The only saving grace of this bath time experience is the fact that I recently made rose oil and put some in the water. That was lovely and you can learn more about the process tomorrow so keep it posted!

What is a disappointing product that you have used recently? What is your favorite thing to use during a bath? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Making Your Home Work For You In 3 Easy Steps

Standard
Making Your Home Work For You In 3 Easy Steps

How does your home make you feel? You’re not alone if you feel like it isn’t working for you anymore. Many people come to the realization that their homes, while suitable for their needs when they moved in, simply aren’t doing any favors now. Pinpointing what is wrong with your home and why it isn’t working can be tricky, but the reality likely is that you aren’t in the same circumstances you were when you moved in. You might have accumulated more items, had children, become pet owners, or just have aged since you moved in and didn’t want or need the same things in a house that you once did.

But can you change things? Making home adjustments can be costly and you want to be sure you are making the right changes for the right reasons before you jump in feet first. So before planning massive home renovations or changes, why not try the following tips?

Room Use:

One of the biggest traps people fall into with their homes is sticking to a predetermined layout and using specific rooms for certain things just because you’re supposed to. If your home isn’t working for you and the space isn’t being maximized, then you should look at how you use each room. Of course, this will be different for everyone, and kitchen and bathroom aside, there is no one right way to use a room within your home.

A good idea is to make a floor plan of your home and label each room as per its current use. Then you can make a list of the requirements you need right now. This can be things like needing more or bigger bedrooms for the children; maybe it could be you need a designated office space, or you want to change things up for no reason other than you need a change.

From here, you can identify the wanted space and see how to change it. For example, do you have a dining room that could be spruced up? You can discover gorgeous dining furniture stockton (or your local area) to transform dinner into a delight. Do you have an office space that never gets used? This could be a guest bedroom! Or do you have a massive primary bedroom while your children struggle to share a smaller one? Can you switch? By getting rid of formal expectations of what each room should be used for and reconfiguring the use of the room, you can find a solution that works for you and your family.

Multifunctional Rooms:

If you are short on space, making rooms multifunctional can solve your problem. Making them multi-use can mean you are always getting the most from the space, even when it’s not in use. Do you have a guest bedroom that only gets used a few times per year? If so, could it be a home office/study when people aren’t visiting you? Could you open up space in your kitchen with the help of a kitchen remodeler in McKinney, TX or in your local area? That could be the perfect spot for a homework nook for the kiddos and your help will be right there as you prepare meals.

By looking at how you can maximize the space in a room and make it more multifunctional, you can find a workaround to your problems and find an easier fix. Don’t target the above point, as there is no one right way to use a room. Rather, look at what you need from your home and how each use can mesh together to make it work and not become more of a hassle when using it for different needs.

Strip It Back:

If you feel overwhelmed by what is happening in your home, why not try stripping it back? This means having a good sorting out of all of your belongings and asking yourself if you really want or need them. This is especially true if you have lived in your home for some time or have a family and accumulated stuff over the years. Declutter and redistribute any unwanted items appropriately; donate to Goodwill or hold a garage sale. From here, you can see what space you must work with to make changes.

It might be that you can move your furniture around to give the room a new feel, or you book residential and commercial painting and staining services to give your home a fresh feel once you’ve decluttered. This point will work well with the above two points and can be a great cost-effective way of making changes to your home and having it work better for you without undertaking massive renovations.

Getting your home to work better for you isn’t always about making huge changes. Sometimes you need to take a step back from how you live in your home to help you look at things with fresh eyes. From here, you can evaluate your wants and needs and make changes to how you use your home before agreeing to make more permanent changes. The best part, is if it doesn’t work for you, you can always revert to the original format!

Lil Red’s Book Club: The Twenty By Sam Holland Edition

Lil Red’s Book Club: The Twenty By Sam Holland Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to the return of Lil Red’s Book Club!! It has been over two months since our last book club review as my life was crazy and I had no free time to read. But now I’m back, baby, and we are going to start things up with a bang. Today, we will be discussing The Twenty by Sam Holland. Before we go any further, a MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING will be placed on this book and it is not for the faint of heart. The TW is for gruesome violence, murder, assault and abuse in all forms, cruelty to animals, and severe mental health disorders. Still interested in finding out more in a spoiler free setting? Let’s get to it:

image_50453761(4)

Head detective Adam Bishop lives a lonely life and we find our lead character at the bar, once again, drinking his sorrows. His bender is cut short, however, by his second in command, Jamie, informing him that bodies have been found. This sobers Adam up immediately and they head to the scene, a desolate wasteland of abandoned construction projects. This location is now home to the homeless, years of discarded trash, and five bodies.

The scene bustles to life with techs, cops, and detectives who are confident that they have found the dumping grounds of a serial killer. And, this serial killer likes to keep count. Upon closer inspection around the bodies, Roman numerals from sixteen to twelve are found spray painted by the unofficial graves. An image from the scene is reported on the news where one of the numerals is just barely visible. But, the fleeting glimpse of it by Dr. Romilly Cole as she settles in for the night means everything to her.

Romilly Cole is the daughter of the infamous serial killer, Dr. Elijah Cole, and is none other than Adam’s ex-wife. At eleven years old, she turned her father into the police and the world wasn’t ready for what was hidden away in his work shed on the edge of their property. It was hell on Earth for four women who he murdered and one who made it out alive. Only Romilly and the cops working the scene will know that Roman numerals from twenty to seventeen were scratched on the side post of the shed door.

After the realization dawns on Rom that this can only be the workings of her incarcerated father, she calls Adam. His response? Not the one she was looking for and he shrugs it off without a second thought. His marriage to Rom didn’t end on the best of terms and any interaction with her is salt in his wounds, especially now that she is living with her new boyfriend. He also has more pressing issues to tend to, as he is the head investigator on his first serial killer case.

The leads from the burial site are slim and, as more bodies marked with numerals are found, the team is further stumped. The victims have been killed in the most gruesome of manners and the crime scenes continue to tell them nothing. Whoever this killer is, is very good. It isn’t until Rom receives mail from her father requesting her to visit, that Adam puts his pride aside to consider that she might have been right this whole time.

Yes, Rom’s father is in jail, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find someone else to do his bidding. With prison guards wrapped around his finger, “fans” of his, and former patients that were saved through his expertise – anyone could be his “helper”. But who? The clock is ticking as the body count starting with Elijah’s four murders continues to work its way down. Adam, Jamie, and Romilly need to solve this case and fast because one of their own could be next. Will the killer reach their goal of twenty murders? Read The Twenty to find out!

Oh. My. GAWD. was this book insane. The Twenty was, honestly, one of the most harrowing, disturbing thrillers that I have ever read. It was disgusting, terrifying, and completely unputdownable. Every page turned was one step closer to answers or another death and I devoured it in four or so sittings. Obviously, everything the killer did was horrid, but the dream team of Adam, Jamie, and Rom were SO likeable that one more page turned into fifty every time.

The Twenty was written exactly how I like it. Short chapters of at maximum four pages. Multiple narrators between Adam, Jamie, Rom, and the killer. And, it toggled between past and present with the childhood of both Adam and Elijah Cole examined. The case in this book was urgent and I could literally feel that urgency pouring out of every single page. Nay, every single sentence. With every passing minute, another murder could take place and I was so far on the edge of my seat that I almost fell off!

As you all know, I love to play detective when I read. I figured out the first grand reveal of the killer’s identity with time to spare and it STILL left me shocked. Don’t get complacent, though, if you figure it out too… This book delivered a one two punch of grand reveals and I never saw the second one coming in a million years. I had tunnel vision of only finding out who the killer was and was blindsided by the fact that there could be another twist. As I said before, it was INSANE.

Although The Twenty was very difficult to read, I still have to award it with the coveted ten out of ten stars. I have never read anything like it and am very eager to read Sam Holland’s first novel, The Echo Man, as the case was referenced in The Twenty. A trip to the library ASAP? Definitely!

What book are you currently reading? Who has read some good thrillers recently? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Summer Switch Up OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Summer Switch Up OOTD! Thanks to an amazing pair of trapeze pants by Patrons Of Peace, some new life was finally breathed into my summer wardrobe. Saying that my summer clothes in my closet is lacking is a huge understatement and I was so happy to find something to switch things up… Hence the name of the OOTD. 😉 I felt great in the look that I created and I can tell how confident I felt even in the bloopers! Check it out:

Excuse you?!

image_50770689(2)

This literally has nothing to do with bloopers, BUT I had some visitors on my balcony as I type this so I will share the story…

When Johnny and I first moved into our new apartment, we began getting fairly regular visits from the neighborhood racoon. She’s a big old gal who loves to snack and she would get treats from the dumpster across the street, bring it up to our balcony, and chow down. We have witnessed her eating everything from burritos to chicken! Even though it’s pretty nasty to have dumpster food on our porch, we always get a kick out of seeing her. And, apparently, she’s up on our balcony more often than we realize according to our neighbor. I guess our apartment is just the place to be!

This past weekend, we were blessed with a visit from our racoon friend and were surprised with more guests… She had four babies! They. Are. Adorable. Mama and her brood were running around on the stairs, on our porch, and the roof beside it and it was so cute I couldn’t stand it. I have seen them several times since in the mornings when I’m working and they just finished making their rounds on the balcony. I’m sure that other people feed them, which isn’t a good thing. But Johnny and I don’t. I think they can just tell that him and I are freaking awesome and want to be in our general vicinity. I’m always happy to see them and can’t wait to watch the lil babes grow up! ❤

OOTDs, bloopers, and raccoons oh my! You never know what kind of commentary you’re going to get during the blooper reel lol. Keep it locked for a new Lil Red’s Book Club review coming tomorrow – finally!!!

Do you have any wildlife that visits your property? What is your favorite animal? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Summer Switch Up OOTD

Hello!!! I have grown SO weary of summer OOTDs as of late because a majority of my wardrobe is tailored towards my preferred cooler weather. While I have really liked all of the past looks that I have styled, none of them have wowed me and that, I don’t like. During my birthday gift card shopping spree at TJMaxx, I was desperate to find some summer clothes to switch things up. The fashion gods answered my plea with a gorgeous new swimsuit and the trapeze pants featured in this OOTD:

image_50746625image_50734081(2)image_50725889(1)image_50454017(4)image_50456577(10)image_50447361(2)

Who? What? Wear?

Crop Top: This was a hand me down from my sister and the jury is out on where she got it from!

Trapeze Pants: Patrons Of Peace, TJMaxx

Platform Heels: Bamboo/Cape Robbin, TJMaxx

Earrings: American Eagle Outfitters

Both bracelets are from American Eagle Outfitters

My Summer Switch Up OOTD was incredibly easy to style because it spoke for itself. A plain top in any of the colors from the trapeze pants would have worked perfectly. I don’t have too many clothes that are completely plain which was a must since the pants were so bold. I did, however, have a navy crop top so that was definitely the move!

The Patrons Of Peace pants are very exciting because there are an endless amount of styling possibilities that come with it. All you have to do is pull from one of the many colors in the pattern and go from there. Could you imagine these with a chic rose turtleneck or burnt orange cardigan come fall? Or just a stark white tank top during the summer would be lovely. This is exactly the type of thing I needed to breathe some new life into my summer wardrobe. And, now that I know what summer clothes can be, it makes me want to go shopping even more lol.

Since the base of the outfit was a snap to put together, shoes and accessories were next on the agenda. Platform heels were necessary because these pants would not have suited my five foot one frame without them. I chose my dark wash denim platforms by Bamboo/Cape Robbin with an embroidered flower heel. Unfortunately, the pants were too long to see them well in the pictures but I can assure you that they were very cute! Even when I wear heels, I never feel “tall” in them. But, in this case, I felt a mile long with the silhouette that was created and it felt… different. Haha, it was cool but I needed to adjust to the major altitude change once I was back in comfy clothes!

Finally, it was time to accessorize and I kept things minimal as per ushe with my summer OOTDs. Even if I didn’t have a ton of tattoos visible in this look, I still would have kept it light with accessories. The Patrons Of Peace pants were an accessory in themselves with the statement pattern! I went with a small pair of gold dangly earrings, a bangle, and a cuff bracelet and that was that. Within five minutes, my look was complete and I felt completely runway ready for the first time this summer. 😀

I am beyond thrilled with this look and I felt like a gajillion bucks in it. I guess dressing for summer isn’t so bad after all!

June 2023 Finishes

Hello everyone and welcome to my beauty finishes for June!! Johnny and I had a fantastic birthaversary month with lots to celebrate. Now that the festivities are over, it is time to focus our attention on the next big thing: Halloween. It’s never too early for us to start thinking about our other favorite time of the year! This past month, I enjoyed lots of great products with only one dud that came as a surprise to me. It was a serum that I had used religiously in the past, but just didn’t hit the same this time around. Let’s discuss further:

Would I Use Again?

Evoluderm Micellar Water: YES

Tree Of Life Vitamin C Serum: NO!!!!!

Bath & Body Works Sun-Ripened Raspberry Body Cream: YES

Honest Beauty Calm & Heal Melting Balm: YES

Why/Why Not?

Tree Of Life Serum: Back in 2021, I was using the Tree Of Life Vitamin C serum regularly for several months until I switched things up. I always thought that it worked well, even if it wasn’t my all time favorite. So, when I saw it available at TJMaxx during a January Haul, I instantly added it to my cart. The first time I used it after almost two years, I was taken aback by how much I didn’t like it. The texture of the serum was thick and a decent amount was needed to cover my full face and neck. It also didn’t absorb as well as I would have liked, either. After only three weeks, I completely used up the bottle and my skin had nothing to show for it in terms of a radiance boost. I was very happy to be done with it and now I know that some past used products are better to be left in the past.

B&BW Lotion: Sun-Ripened Raspberry is one of my favorite old school scents from Bath & Body Works and I always have to buy a few lotions or shower gels during their Semi Annual Sales. I don’t use the Body Creams by B&BW too often because they are more expensive than what a full size freebie coupon covers. However, I am VERY impressed with it whenever I get the chance to use it. The shea butter and Hyaluronic Acid base is so nourishing and my skin feels amazing after every use. Any slightly dry patches on my arms feel like they are gone in an instant and it leaves my skin looking and feeling healthy. It took me over three weeks of nighttime use to finish the bottle.

Honest Balm: The Calm & Heal Melting Balm by Honest Beauty was the first product from that brand I ever tried and it was a home run. You can read more about it in my review above, but it is a moisturizer that I would definitely use again. It took about three and a half weeks of twice daily use to finish the jar and I was so sad when I did – it was that good! Highly, highly recommend – especially if you have a dryer skin type.

Even though the Tree Of Life serum sucked, I got to try a new brand out and use an old favorite so this month’s empties were still a GREAT SUCCESS. I am keeping my eyes peeled for more Honest Beauty products every time I go to TJMaxx!

Have you used an old faithful product after a while and been disappointed by it? What is your favorite Honest Beauty product? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
