November 2023 Finishes

November 2023 Finishes

Howdy!! November is drawing to a close, which can only mean that it’s time to discuss my monthly beauty finishes. I can’t say that this was the most successful month of empties, but damnit if it isn’t satisfying to finish products up lol. Good or bad, I always enjoy trying something new so it’s always exciting for me to use something up and move onto the next thing! There isn’t too much to discuss today so let’s keep things short and sweet and get right to it:

Would I Use Again?

Evoluderm Micellar Water: YES

IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm: YES!!!!

Bath & Body Works Mimosa & Spearmint Hand Cream: MAYBE

Peptid+ Collagen Moisturizer: NO

Why/Why Not?

IGK Hair Balm: The Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm from Sephora is an absolute must in my stockpile. I got a sample of it many moons ago in a free Sephora Play! Box and immediately bought it in full size and have been using it ever since. I use this product before straightening my hair, but also sporadically throughout the week to give my locks the moisture boost it needs. The IGK hair balm leaves my hair so soft and shiny and serves as an amazing heat protector too. With my shorter hair, I only need about a nickle sized dollop because a little goes such a long way. It takes me between five or six months to finish one bottle and is worth every penny.

B&BW Hand Cream: I am not a fan of the hand cream from Bath & Body Works in any sense of the word. In my opinion, they don’t moisturize well and the texture is very greasy. I am always disappointed when I get a freebie coupon for a hand cream in the mail, but free is free. The Mimosa & Spearmint scent left a lot to be desired and it smelled neither here nor there. I noticed no positive improvement in the dryness of my skin in the week it took me to finish the travel size tube.

Peptid+ Moisturizer: I have been dabbling more in moisturizers with collagen or retinal in it as I approach my thirties. Unfortunately, this Peptid+ Collagen Moisturizer was not it. It took me about four weeks of twice daily use to finish the jar. While I appreciated the value of it, this moisturizer is one that I wouldn’t use again or recommend. It did nothing for my skin and, therefore, did nothing for me. In fact, I am noticing more positive differences with the moisturizer I just started using as opposed to this one! It’s a no from me, dawg.

November was a bit of a dud for empties, but that’s okay! It’s nice to know what products to not spend money on again and I like to let all of you know my findings too. A penny saved is a penny earned or whatever! 😀

Which products did you use up this month? What are your thoughts on any of the above products if you have used them before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Navy, Baby OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Navy, Baby OOTD! Creating outfit posts on lifewithlilred is one of my most favorite things and it turns next level after I get my hair done. After I leave the salon, OOTD ideas swarm at a rapid pace and I want to shoot all of the content while my hair still looks fresh and new. I wanted to style a timeless outfit for my Navy, Baby OOTD and I love what I achieved. The pictures you are about to see, however, are very low on my list of accomplishments lol. Check it out:

Looking like a straight up zombie. BRAINS!!!

image_50755841

When I style OOTDs, I love everything about the process. It feels exciting to me to go through my wardrobe and shop as if I have never seen my clothing/shoes/accessory collection before. While it’s always fun to style looks with brand new clothes, it adds more of a challenge to turn old pieces in my wardrobe into something that feels new again. That was definitely the case with my Navy, Baby OOTD and it was so neat to breathe new life into these older pieces (The peacoat is over a decade old!). This type of styling really requires you to think about your clothes differently than you have before and I am so pleased with what I came up with.

The OOTD fun isn’t done when my look is styled and what comes after is my absolute favorite part: Taking pictures with Johnny! He is the most wonderful blog husband and no matter how much he playfully drags his feet, he is always up to the challenge of making me look good lol. Shooting this outfit was a bit of a chore because the lighting sucked. We tried so many different locations before settling on one and he was patient and most helpful in my endeavors. It forever warms my heart when he suggests a spot that he thinks might work! Johnny is nothing short of elated once I am satisfied with the pictures we took, but knowing I have an in house photographer whenever I need is something I am so thankful for. He is the absolute best!

My Navy, Baby OOTD was a fun experience from start to finish. I had a blast shopping in my closet and an even better time hanging around MUD CREEK with Johnny to shoot both winners and total losers of pictures! ❤

What is the oldest piece of clothing you own? Do you prefer taking pictures or being in them? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Navy, Baby OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! It is always so much fun to style a new look after getting my hair done and it was a weekend full of changes, indeed. New hair, new piercing, and a new style because the look you are about to see is quite different from previous OOTD posts. Of course, I wanted to celebrate the navy in my hair that I am obsessed with, but I also wanted to create something chic and sophisticated because that’s how my new do makes me feel. My Navy, Baby OOTD was a step outside of my comfort zone and I am loving how it turned out:

image_50727681(1)image_50786049(1)image_50754817(3)image_50761217(2)image_50455553(4)

Who? What? Wear?

Peacoat: Rock Steady, ModCloth

Striped Sweater: Cynthia Rowley, TJMaxx

Slacks: Sincerely Jules, TJMaxx

Snakeskin Pattern Boots: Vince Camuto, TJMaxx

The turquoise cross earrings are Lucky Brand!

I love all of the amazing shades of Pulp Riot hair dye, but there is something about the navy hue called Nightfall that just hits different. It compliments the red beautifully and the darker color against my complexion is probably the most true to my original medium to dark brown hair. It is such a shocking contrast and my new look is one of my most favorite things that I have ever done to my hair. Rather than let the navy hair do all of the talking in this OOTD, I decided to pile it on in my clothing as well.

To style this look, I began from the top down with my Cynthia Rowley striped sweater. It fits like a glove and how cute is that red heart accent?! The crisp stripes of navy and stark white feel so classic and it really is a timeless piece. When I think about sophistication, “timeless” is one of the words that I always associate it with. To continue with that, I chose my Sincerely Jules slacks for the pants portion. They are such a wonderful staple piece and can be worn dressed up or down with ease. I like that the straight leg fit offers some motion without being loose and it created such a cool but effortless silhouette.

Next on the agenda was shoes and accessories and I selected a gorgeous pair of snakeskin pattern heeled boots by Vince Camuto. I am very partial to a grey snakeskin pattern, but the rich brown palette of these boots is just what I needed. Although these boots are patterned, I would still consider them to be a neutral and they offered a unique pop of color against the neutral palette that I had already established. Remember, navy is most definitely a neutral too! Because the pattern of the sweater was so bold, I chose to keep accessories minimal with a pair of dangly turquoise cross earrings. These were a gift from my mom and one of my favorite pairs!

With that, the base of my outfit was settled but it still didn’t feel complete. To tie things together, I knew I needed a great jacket and I found that with my peacoat from ModCloth by Rock Steady. This peacoat is as old as dirt, but it is so beloved by me. It was one of my first purchases from ModCloth and I still get the warm fuzzies when I put it on. The navy peacoat turned the base I was working with into a true OOTD and it made me feel like I accomplished my mission of a timeless outfit. And, once again, how cute are those heart patches on the elbow?!

My Navy, Baby OOTD highlighted my new hair perfectly and I felt like a star in this look. This outfit combined classic pieces and turned it into something fresh and new, which is exactly what I set out to do!

What is a piece of clothing you consider to be timeless? What era of fashion is your favorite? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Piercing, Who Dis?

New Piercing, Who Dis?

Hello! Last weekend was full of changes and I felt nothing short of inspired after getting my hair done. So much so, that a new hairdo was simply not enough and I needed something more. I have been wanting a double septum piercing for literal years now and I decided that there was no better time than the present. Rather than thinking about wanting it for the millionth time, I finally walked the walk on top of the talk and scheduled an appointment to get it done last Saturday. I went to Lucid, which is an amazing piercing shop down the street from me. Alex, the owner, took exceptional care and gave me an end result that I am thrilled with:

image_50381313(3)image_50442753(12)

^^^ Don’t mind these terrible pictures lol you will see my new piercing soon enough in my Thanksgiving OOTDs! 🙂

I have been to Lucid several times to change out my nose jewelry, but have never been pierced by Alex before. As soon as Johnny and I walked into the store, he armed me with knowledge about the procedure of the piercing and assisted in the jewelry selection. For my original septum piercing, I chose a new close fitting hoop with black gem detailing – it is gorgeous! I still loved the shape of the horseshoe jewelry for my original piercing and chose a slightly smaller version for the piercing that Alex would be doing. Once my jewelry was chosen, he went to work on sterilizing the jewelry and piercing room. I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous because it has been over half a decade at least since I have gotten a new piercing!

After the room was prepped, it was time to get this thing over with. I definitely had some butterflies in my basket and Alex was most skilled at putting me at ease. Throughout the entire process, he talked me through every step of what he was doing as he did it. His voice was so soothing and calm and it made me feel infinitely better to hear him explain things since I couldn’t really see it. Alex swapped out my original jewelry, marked where my new piercing would go, pierced my double septum, and…

It wasn’t so bad!! Lol, it was honestly exactly how it felt when I got my septum pierced the first time and that was minimally painful. Then again, I have a really high pain tolerance so my opinion might not be the best one if you are considering something similar! After my jewelry was in, I was blown away by Alex’s expertise. He placed the new piercing perfectly and I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror. This new piercing is fun and different and I can’t believe it took me this long to finally get it done!

I am loving my new look and am considering a Medusa piercing in the future. Hey, I’m not getting any younger and I know exactly where I’ll go if I get it done!

Have you gotten a new body modification recently? Do you have any plans to get one soon? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: Night Watch By Linda Fairstein Edition

Lil Red’s Book Club: Night Watch By Linda Fairstein Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! Without giving any spoilers away, as always, we will be discussing a thriller by Linda Fairstein called Night Watch. I haven’t had the time to get to the library so the past two book club picks are ones that I got for free from the library several years ago that have just been sitting around my apartment. I knew I’d get around to reading them eventually! Unfortunately, Night Watch really missed the mark for me and before we begin, I will be placing a trigger warning on it as it deals with rape, murder, and disturbing content. Now, let’s get to it:

image_50437889(8)

Alex Cooper is so lucky in love. Her beau, Luc, is a restaurateur who lives in a charming village called Mougins in France. Mougins is known for its picturesque views and fine dining – especially the three star rated Lutece, which Luc owns. Alex is supposed to be spending a relaxing vacation with Luc in France, but things go haywire before she’s had time to shake off her jet lag. The day after Luc hosts a lux party where all of the guests are to don white attire, a body is found in a nearby pond. The woman is dressed for Luc’s soiree and she has a waterlogged matchbook from Lutece in her pocket. Oh yeah, and she used to be employed by Luc.

As Luc clears his good name in France, Alex is flown back to New York City after the law firm takes on a big case. A prominent world leader is being accused of rape by a housekeeper at the hotel he stayed at and Alex’s firm is representing the victim. Alex’s mind is anywhere but her work, however. She is worried about Luc and anxious for his arrival in NYC where he will be opening an American branch of Lutece. He is able to make the trip and shortly after he touches down in American soil, another body is found with another Lutece matchbook. This young man happens to be the head waiter that Luc just hired for his New York restaurant.

Alex begins the delicate dance of trying to keep her world together as it comes crashing down around her. The firm fears their client is being less than truthful, her partner is in the middle of an investigation, and she is running out of reasons to believe that Luc has nothing to do with the murders. While Alex is in a constant state of panic, Luc tries to maintain a level head by conducting business for his new restaurant. His investors do not seem like a trustworthy bunch to Alex and her instincts are right. They have plans for Lutece too and it’s not just serving up an excellent meal. Is Luc in way over his head? Or is he the man orchestrating the whole plot? Read Night Watch to find out!

Night Watch was a long read that felt like it went on for forever and ever. The base of the story was interesting enough, but it was the way that it was written that I had a major issue with. There were SO many plots within the main plot that it was a bit difficult to keep track of them all. Although all of them came together in the end, it wasn’t seamless and it felt like Linda Fairstein was grasping at straws to reach a cohesive conclusion. The book didn’t read as effortless, but as multiple ideas thrown together with the hope that it would work out in the end.

Not only was the writing style not my cup of tea, but the key players, Alex and Luc, weren’t the most likeable characters. They were fine, but there wasn’t anything special about them. Their relationship wasn’t this full blown romance and I was more concerned about Alex’s flirtationship with a colleague rather than Alex and Luc. Speaking of her coworkers, Chapman and Mercer, were arguably the best characters in the book. Alex and Luc were doom and gloom to the T while Alex’s detective pals were humorous and light while still taking their job very seriously. I was rooting for them more than anyone else and they weren’t even the main characters!

Overall, I am going to rate Night Watch with a four out of ten stars. Night Watch lacked cohesion in every sense of the word. I saw the book through until the end and it was lackluster at best. This is one that you can definitely skip on!

What are you currently reading? What should I read next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hair, Who Dis?

New Hair, Who Dis?

Hello!! This past Friday, I spent a wonderful day getting pampered by my amazing stylist, Anna, at the Shear Shop. Last time I got my hair done by Anna, we introduced a gorgeous new Pulp Riot shade called Nightfall which is a navy blue. We both loved it SO much and decided that we needed to see more of it during my next appointment so I couldn’t wait to make that happen. For this look, we used all Pulp Riot colors of Pyro, Fireball, Satire, and Nightfall and it turned out absolutely divine. Check it out:

babes1image_50755585(1)image_50460673(10)

^^^ Keep it locked for a brand new OOTD coming soon! 😀

To create my new do, Anna began by bleaching my roots and we let that sit for around twenty-five or thirty minutes. After washing and drying, it was time to mix up the Pulp Riot dye and, as always, take a commemorative whiff of it. Lol, if you have used Pulp Riot products before, then you will know it smells exactly like Sweet Tarts! 😀

image_50730241(4)

The fun truly begins when Anna starts to dye my hair and brings our vision to life. Although we were using the exact same colors from my previous appointment, changes needed to be made. It was already decided that we needed more navy in our lives and we swapped the yellow I originally had in front for navy instead. This choice was made for aesthetics, sure, but it was also strategic. While we both adore the gorgeous yellow shade of Satire, it looked very unflattering when my dark roots came in against such a bright hue. Anna is a master of her craft and she not only thinks about the immediate result, but what it will look like when it grows out too and that is much appreciated.

To achieve this look, Anna started out by painting my roots with a deep red called Pyro. It makes my regrowth virtually undetectable and is a must every time I get my hair done. Then, she painted my bangs and the hair framing my face with Nightfall as well as creating a navy halo underneath the red. She also left a few strands out that we could paint with Satire, but that was easier said than done. The yellow is very close to the navy and the last thing we wanted was for a funky green shade to pop up. Finally, she pulled through the rest of the back portion of my hair with the brighter red of Fireball and we let the color sit for around fifty minutes.

Once the color was ready to be washed out, Anna proceeded with caution because we didn’t want any of the colors to blend. She used a fabulous color locking shampoo that pretty much eliminated any bleed out and we were most impressed. Afterwards, it was onto conditioner and a treatment to soften my hair and add some shine. That is always much needed after we put my hair through the ringer! My hair felt wonderful after and it was as if we never did anything to it in the first place.

The end result of Anna’s hard work blew us both away and it turned out exactly how we wanted it to. I am obsessed with the navy framing my face and I love how it looks against my complexion. My red was back and brighter than ever and there was no green to be found from colors blending. It’s always a coin toss to do something this bold with your hair, but I know that I am in the best hands with Anna. I can’t wait to see what we do next! 😀

Keep it posted here on lifewithlilred for a brand new OOTD, bloopers, and a bit of a surprise because your girl got a new piercing for the first time in years this past weekend!! It is very cute, if I do say so myself! 🙂

Have you changed your look recently? What is your favorite hair care product? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Misny Merch OOTD Bloopers

Helloooo everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Misny Merch OOTD! Johnny and I had the best time at Misnyland and I couldn’t wait to show off the new swag we were gifted with from Tim Misny. After lunch with some of my family at veg+, Johnny and I walked the little trail that runs through the bottom of Timber Top AKA Timber Bottom to shoot my athleisure look. We strolled along the scenic banks of MUD CREEK (It really is named that lol) and returned home with lots of pics that I was happy with. We also came back home with some shots that looked like this:

My “whoops” face

Timber Top is a pretty alright place to live. I honestly don’t know how it isn’t when we have Mud Creek running through the property! There are also hella dogs to pet and that’s always a delight. Johnny and I love our chihuahua friend named Nacho and I am so impressed that I spelled chihuahua right on my first go. Sometimes, however, Timber Top is redonkulous. This past year or so, someone died from carbon monoxide poisoning, a building caught fire, and people were breaking bones falling through stairs. SMH.

This past week, we thought another Timber Top tragedy was unfolding before our eyes because we were awakened at 10:30 at night to the sound of a fleet of firetrucks, police cars, and ambulances speeding through the property. We had no idea what was going on a few buildings down the way, but it seemed serious. We could see the flashing lights through our windows, could hear the commotion through the walls, and were waiting on baited breath to see what was going to happen….

Thankfully, it was nothing!! Someone was running their dryer at night and because of the cold, it looked like the vents were smoking. While this may seem like a massive inconvenience to some, I’m SO thankful that someone called it in. After another building catching on fire, you cannot be too careful and I am most appreciative to our local safety enforcement for being so Johnny on the spot. What was a trick of the eye could have been something serious and I am so glad that it wasn’t and that no one got hurt. Whoever called this in was focused on keeping our apartment community safe rather than sorry and I commend them! ❤

You never know what’s going to happen in Timber Top and it is a blessing that a goose egg came from our nighttime wake up call. Here’s to an accident free new year in good ol’ TT!!

What was something you thought was serious that ended up being nothing? Do you have any funny named landmarks in your neck of the woods? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Misny Merch OOTD

Standard
Misny Merch OOTD

Hello!! When Johnny and I visited Misnyland, we were each treated to a new T-shirt or long sleeved shirt from the Misny Merch collection. Johnny got himself the same shirt that my dad purchased for me for my birthday and what I wore in my Misny To The Max OOTD that made me a contest winner. I opted for a black long sleeved shirt with Tim’s signature catchphrase “Make Them Pay” going down the side of the sleeves. This was great because I actually wanted to buy that shirt, but I placed my order in late May and wanted a T-shirt for summertime. With some brand new Misny swag to rock, I had to style a new OOTD and came up with an athleisure ensemble that I wore to lunch at veg+ (Check out yesterday’s post for a review!).

Remember that proceeds from every order of Misny Merch benefits the Cleveland City Mission! Now, let’s get to it:

image_50726657(3)image_50767873(2)image_50764289(1)image_50450945(8)image_50454017(7)image_50732033(3)

Who? What? Wear?

Long sleeved shirt: Misny Merch

Leggings: Express

Balaclava: Steve Madden, TJMaxx

Tie dye tennis shoes: Nike, PacSun

The bumblebee earrings are from Target!

As you all know, athleisure OOTDs aren’t really my thing, even more so since I haven’t ice skated in forever. As odd as it is, this outfit was me stepping outside of my comfort zone! This was a strategic outfit, though, because I knew that I would be with my nieces when I wore it and would be able to chase after the too cute toddlers comfortably. I also chose to go the athleisure route because the Misny Merch shirt is huge on me so wearing it in a more sporty ensemble made sense.

The base of this outfit was so simple to establish. I already had my new shirt in mind and you can’t have an athleisure look without a great pair of leggings. My sister turned me on to the leggings from Express and they are simply the best. I wore them constantly when I skated, I love to lounge in them, and they fit like a glove. I rarely wear leggings in public because I am a die hard black skinny jeans fan and I felt like I was in my pajamas in the best way ever lol. And, trust me when I say that I simply shined when Val insisted on reenacting the “stampede” scene from the Lion King?? So weird haha but I could have ran for days! 😀

With the base of the outfit settled, it was time for shoes and accessories. I went with my purple tie dye pair of Stefan Janoski Nikes and it felt most strange not sporting a killer pair of heels. Then again, it wouldn’t be a sportswear outfit with my go to platforms on! Despite the pop of purple, the outfit was still looking rather plain so I enlisted the help of my new Steve Madden balaclava from TJMaxx. I wore it like a cowl and it was incredibly toasty and added the visual interest that was missing. Finally, I chose a pair of bold, bumblebee studs for an extra dose of cuteness and was ready to take on the day the Tim Misny way!

Lil Red goes athleisure in my Misny Merch OOTD and it was a fun and oh so comfy change of pace. Thanks for the shirt, Tim. You’re the best! ❤

Do you have any merch from one of your favorite celebrities? What is your favorite charity to support? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

veg+ Review

veg+ Review

Hello!!! My Misnyland weekend was a very eventful one. After hanging out with Tim, Johnny and I visited his parents, then we met up with my sister and her family for dinner. The following day, my mom, Kristen, my nieces, and aunt and uncle hit up a new vegetarian restaurant in my neck of the woods for lunch. The restaurant is called veg+ and it has been open for a few months or so. It’s actually pretty crazy because I just so happen to drive by it almost every day for work and I never noticed it lol. In my defense, the outdoor signage is lacking and I’m more focused on driving than checking out the scenery! Our experience was alright so let’s chat some more:

image_50434561(3)image_50737665(8)image_50430465(8)image_50442753(11)image_50427905(8)

From the outside, veg+ leaves a lot to be desired but it was quaint and cute in the restaurant itself. We were graciously seated all by our lonesome at a big table in the backroom and that couldn’t have been better. It gave Val and Raya ample room to roam and play while the big people talked and we didn’t have to constantly remind them of their inside voice! Although it was great to have an entire room to ourselves, we were pretty sure that we had been forgotten because it took forever for our order to be placed. Our uncle had to track the waitress down after a solid twenty plus minutes, but she was very sweet as was the other staff.

The menu at veg+ was fairly limited and we all ordered the same thing – either a veggie burger or a hummus wrap. Val got the pretzels and cheese and Raya had some beans and rice. They were also able to make me a mimosa and that was very tasty! When our food arrived we were famished and had to laugh over the ginormous size of the veggie burgers. It would have been impossible to eat them normally so we cut them in half – some being more successful than others lol mine was a hot mess.

The general consensus we all came to was that the food was good. It didn’t blow us away, but it was a nice meal altogether. I liked the sweet potato fries with the aioli sauce the best. The fries were crisp on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside and the dipping sauce was delish. Val’s pretzels were actually the favorite among the table, but the vegan cheese it came with was a very strange texture and we opted for the mustard to dip instead. The veggie burger was just alright. The buns were obviously a bit of an issue and they were a tinge hard. The burger patty itself was also rather dry and there didn’t seem to be any sauce on it. I expected the veggie burger to knock our socks off but, unfortunately, it left everyone less than impressed.

Despite the food not being our favorite, it was so great to be able to get together for lunch at veg+. I wouldn’t be opposed to visiting it again if someone suggested it, but it wouldn’t be my first choice!

What is your favorite type of restaurant to go to? What is your favorite vegetarian dish? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
