TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

Hellooo! Today we are going to finish up my TJMaxx Haul by discussing some skin care that I couldn’t pass up. I know, I know – I literally just got a bunch of skin care from Amazon but when in Rome… Or in TJMaxx! Despite an overflowing beauty stock pile, I have no issue buying products that I know for a fact I am going to use. So, I ended up purchasing the following old favorites and new to me face washes:

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love face scrubs and it has been a long while since I used one. I was tickled to find St. Ives scrubs for only three dollars at TJs and I considered it a steal as they are usually around five bucks at full price stores. The Apricot scrub by St. Ives was one of the first skin care products that I can remember trying as a teenager and it always hits right in the nostalgia whenever I use it. The Apricot and Coconut & Coffee scrubs will be great in the summer while the Oatmeal one will be soothing for dry winter skin. You can’t beat three scrubs for under ten dollars!

Pre-pandemic, I was using SkinLab products purchased from TJMaxx exclusively. I have always been highly impressed with their skin care and was paying seven dollars or so for the moisturizers and eye gels. During the pandemic, I didn’t do any in store shopping that wasn’t grocery related and turned to Amazon for my skin care needs. I was so disappointed to see that my SkinLab products were priced at twenty dollars and once I used up the SkinLab brand items I had, I never bought them again.

While TJs didn’t have my favorite SkinLab moisturizers, they did have gel cleansers in the Lift & Firm and Revitalize & Hydrate formulas. This was the first time I saw SkinLab cleansers at TJMaxx and, obviously, I had to give them both a shot since I’m writing about it now! I haven’t tried a new to me product in so long and am eager to test out these cleansers. I have a feeling that they are going to be incredibly refreshing in the morning and I think the colors are so pretty too! 😀

Every TJMaxx trip with my mom is my favorite but the one from this haul is very high in the ranks. We had the best time shopping together and I can’t wait to do it again! ❤

What is your favorite skin care brand? Do you remember the first skin care product you tried? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Celebrity Pink Shorts

Celebrity Pink Shorts

Hi! Today, we are going to be wrapping up my clothing haul from TJMaxx by discussing some shorts by Celebrity Pink. Then, tomorrow, it is onto all things skin care, makeup, and a whole lot of Face Mask Festivities so keep checking back in for more of the latest and greatest. 😀

When my mom and I had our TJMaxx trip, I was really hoping to find a new laundry hamper as well as another pair of shorts. My old hamper has been falling apart from the bottom and I only have two shorts from American Eagle that I had just been alternating every day lol. Needless to say, I definitely needed another pair! I asked the TJMaxx gods and I received with a woven wood hamper and a pair of Celebrity Pink shorts. (#blessed) Now, let’s get to it:

During my shopping, I found the TJMaxx shorts selection to be lackluster at best and struggled to find anything in my size and a mid rise. For those of you who don’t know, high waisted shorts just aren’t my thing and it is so difficult to find a regular pair of mid rise anything in a sea of high waisted. When I had all but given up, I found my Celebrity Pink shorts tucked away on the rolling rack and hoped for success because it was the only pair that I thought might work.

I was so relieved once I tried these shorts on and they fit like a glove, especially because of the junior’s sizing. My Celebrity Pink shorts hit slightly above my natural waist and were short without feeling overly revealing and I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I was also a huge fan of the medium wash of the shorts too since my only two other pairs are black and dark wash. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. 😀

I love everything about my new shorts but the coolest part is that they are made out of recycled fibers from plastic water bottles! I didn’t even notice this on the tag until I was taking blog pics at home and thought that was the neatest thing. Celebrity Pink delivered on the “Honey” style shorts and they are eco-friendly, to boot. GREAT SUCCESS!

What are some other eco-friendly brands? What is your preferred rise for shorts and pants? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Luna Moon Peasant Blouse

Standard
Luna Moon Peasant Blouse

Hello! Today we are going to discuss a mustard yellow peasant blouse by Luna Moon found during my TJMaxx Haul with my mom. I have never been a huge fan of peasant blouses. However, when I saw this top in one of my favorite colors along with a brightly embroidered pattern, I just had to give it a shot. This Luna Moon number will be ideal during the fall and cooler summer evenings and I can’t wait to rock it! Let’s get to it:

Nine times out of ten, I have found that peasant blouses legit look like maternity tops on me. My latest purchase is the one exception and that is, actually, thanks to a detail that I normally despite: The tied waist. This is just my personal preference but I cannot stand tops on me that tie at the bottom and I didn’t realize that was the case with my blouse until I tried it on.

This problem was quickly solved by simply tucking it into my shorts and it looked so much better. Tucking the top solved the tie waist issue as well as eradicated the flowiness that, more often than not, makes me look slightly preggo! You guys probably all think I sound crazy but I think everyone has a style of clothing that they refuse to wear for a silly (And more than likely, untrue!) reason lol.

Now, finally, let’s talk about this Luna Moon blouse in actuality because I think it is quite stunning. We all know Lil Red loves mustard yellow but what takes it over the top, if you will, is the gorgeous embroidery. The blue, red, orange, and white pop so well against the mustard yellow and it has also opened my eyes to color combinations that I have never thought of before. Who knew turquoise and mustard could look so good together? Not I. Luna Moon did, though!

While this top will work during a mild summer day, I think it will be perfect for fall. Tucking it into skirts with thick tights and high waisted jeans will definitely be the move. As well as the shorts and tights combo that I am particularly fond of.

My new peasant blouse took me out of my comfort zone but that is what was so fun about the TJs trip I had with my mom. We both tried things that we normally would shy away from and the reward from the fashion risk made it so worth it. Here’s to taking risks with fashion for all in the future because you might just find your new favorite thing!

Is there a specific shape of clothing that you refuse to wear? How do you take fashion risks? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Rachel Zoe Tank Top Set

Rachel Zoe Tank Top Set

Hi! Lil Red loves ultra unique statement pieces, which means that more basic items often get overlooked in my wardrobe. What is lacking in essentials is made up for with a bunch of crazy shoes, though lol! While I always mean to get closet must haves while shopping like tanks and neutral options, it never quite works out that way. Until my trip to TJMaxx with my mom, that is.

At TJs, I found the literal best tank tops I have ever worn by Rachel Zoe. My only regret? That I didn’t get a backup of the set of two that I purchased! Check it out:

When I first saw this black and white tank top set, I just had to try it on. Normally, I would acknowledge the cuteness of these tanks and move on. However, I loved the convenience of the set of two, the ribbing, and the thick straps. Peek a boo bra straps are always an issue for me and knowing that it wouldn’t be a problem with these tanks made me eager to give them a shot. Who wants to adjust themselves all summer long? Pas moi!

I wasn’t expecting to feel so good in just a tank top but I really was blown away as soon as I had it on in the fitting room. These Rachel Zoe tanks fit like a dream and are quite slimming thanks to the vertical stripes and ribbing. The tank flattered my body without feeling too tight and there were no bra straps to be seen. 😀

Rachel Zoe clearly drew inspiration from a classic wife beater but she turned it on its head and made it *fashion*. The shorter length, tighter fit, and ribbing all helped the cause. However, the best part of these tanks is the appearance of the material. In my opinion, it almost looks sweater like when it is really just rayon! My new tanks will definitely help me stay cool this summer while still making me feel chic and I never thought I would say that about a basic piece before.

It has been brutally hot in Ohio these past several days with temperatures in the nineties and I have already made great use of my purchase because of it. These essential tanks are universally flattering while still having a little something extra to them and I am so there for it. Like I said, I wish I bought two sets and I highly recommend them!

What are some essential must haves in your wardrobe? How do you add spice to basic pieces? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Rebellion Again Mustard Yellow Kimono

Standard
Rebellion Again Mustard Yellow Kimono

Hi! During the pandemic, I really didn’t do too much online clothing shopping. It’s not like Johnny and I were going anywhere and I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of making inevitable in store returns. While I bought a few odds and ends, I found that I played it pretty safe with my purchases so I wouldn’t have to make a separate trip for pieces in the “no” pile.

Given the circumstances, this method worked. However, we all know that the last thing Lil Red likes to do when it comes to fashion is play it safe! That is why my past few shopping outings with myself, my mom, and best gal Danielle were so much fun. It felt amazing to be able to actually try clothing on in store and experiment with shapes and colors that I normally wouldn’t pick for myself.

Thanks to my recent hauls, I would consider my wardrobe perfectly refreshed for summer. The fashion bug continues to bite, though, because all I can think about is how I’m going to style all of these cool new finds. Like this Rebellion Again kimono, for starters:

I found this kimono at TJMaxx when I went with my mom and, originally, didn’t even plan on trying it on because they only had one size – a large. I thought it was going to be way too big but JANE encouraged me to give it a shot anyways and I’m glad she did because it fit just right! I have never owned anything like this breezy little number before and I think it is so unique.

As always, when it comes to anything mustard yellow, I fall in love with it pretty quickly because it is one of my favorite colors to wear other than black. Paired with the cream stitching, this kimono screams summer and I can picture myself throwing it on to go to the pool, work, and just about anywhere! Whether paired with simple shorts and a tank top or over a maxi dress for a boho vibe, I think it will transform any outfit into a statement.

The details and colors of my new Rebellion Again kimono are gorgeous but the best part of it is, easily, the fabric. The mustard yellow part is all mesh and I have never seen anything like that before. I love the contrast between the gauzy material and thick stitching and it is a light as a feather option even on a super hot day. I cannot wait to wear it ASAP!

What are your favorite colors to wear? How do you like to make fashion statements? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Moon & Madison Knit Tank

Moon & Madison Knit Tank

Hi! Shopping at TJMaxx with my mom this past week has been one of the highlights of my year – and getting married, of course! We had not had a mother/daughter TJs outing since before the pandemic and we picked up right where we left off so long ago. Walking into TJMaxx together felt like finally coming home after a vacation and we each left with an awesome haul of clothes, skin care, and home goods. My mom also found two cute new pairs of sandals which made my inner shoe diva so proud!

We were both able to refresh our summer wardrobes and I think I am well set for the season now. I am so happy with all of my purchases and can’t wait to sport this little Moon & Madison number ASAP:

I recently bought a knit tank at Dry Goods thanks to inspiration from Facebook ads and when I saw my new Moon & Madison top at TJs, I just had to try it on. I loved that it was cropped as my Thread & Supply one is much longer and, most importantly, I loved being able to show support to my friends in the LGBTQ+ community. It also shows support to myself, as well, because I am bisexual!

TJMaxx Home Goods Haul

TJMaxx Home Goods Haul

Hi! After a long year and change without in store TJMaxx shopping, my mom and I finally had our first outing to TJs last week. It was everything I ever could have imagined AND MORE! While it was great fun to spend my birthday gift cards, it was even better to spend time with my mom browsing the aisles and modeling the clothes we tried on together. We both walked away with lots of goodies that we are so happy with and I have been mentally reliving our shopping trip since we left the store.

Today, we are going to look at a few of the home goods items that I got for mine and Johnny’s apartment. My TJMaxx clothing haul will begin on July first after we discuss my June 2021 Finishes so keep it posted for that! Now, let’s get to it:

Since moving into my apartment over two years ago, I haven’t bought too much in terms of home goods. Between my initial Moving On Up Hauls and all of the things Johnny brought when he moved in, we really didn’t need anything. However, the laundry hamper that I purchased at TJMaxx when I moved was falling apart at the bottom and it definitely needed replacing. I was hoping to find a new one during my outing with my mom and the TJMaxx gods must have felt it! I love the woven wood hamper that I picked out because of how sturdy it is, the fact that it has a lid, and it is way prettier than my old one. 😀

For my kitchen, I picked up a few odds and ends like ice cube trays in an adorable honeycomb pattern, plates, and a few dish towels. Johnny and I have been saying for forever that we need some ice cube trays and the ones I found are ideal because they won’t take up a lot of room in our tiny freezer. The plates were also a must because we are constantly running out of them, which means we are constantly doing dishes! I thought that four plates for eight dollars was a steal, too.

TJMaxx didn’t have a whole lot of choices in terms of dish towels, but the Love Birds ones that I selected (On clearance!) will do just fine. In fact, they are perfect for us as a newly married couple! My mom was even kind enough to get some of the home supplies for us as an extra wedding prezzie. So sweet! ❤

Shopping at TJMaxx with my mom was absolutely amazing and this outing in particular will forever hold a special place in my heart. We picked up at TJs right where we left off so long ago and I am already looking forward to our next shopping trip. ❤

Where is your favorite place to shop? Who do you like to go shopping with? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Face Mask Festivities Follow Up: The Body Shop’s Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask Edition

Face Mask Festivities Follow Up: The Body Shop’s Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask Edition

Howdy! When it comes to bath and body care as well as skin care too, I always find myself partial to products from The Body Shop. In my youth, we always had goodies from TBS handy like their bath beads, bar soap, and shower gel. Then, in my teenage years, my mom took me there for one of my very first skin care and makeup hauls.

The Body Shop always hits right in the nostalgia for me and for good reason! So you could imagine how disappointing it was when all of their storefronts in my area closed several years ago. TJMaxx definitely saved the day when they started carrying TBS products in their beauty department and my mom and I were ecstatic to get our favorite lotions and skin care for a fraction of the cost.

A few months ago, my mom surprised me with The Body Shop’s Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing mask which she found at TJMaxx. It had been a long while since I tested out a new face mask and if you read my original review, you will remember that I felt the mask left a lot to be desired.

While I always enjoy using a new face mask, good or bad, I did find myself a bit disappointed with the Pollution Clearing mask. Yes, my skin felt slightly softer and looked a tad brighter but that was about it and I was very surprised to see so many five star reviews for it on Google. The reviews made me feel like I was missing something and I also refused to believe that The Body Shop could have made such a dud (For a lack of a better word!) of a mask. So, I began using it bi-weekly for about a month and, I have to say, I still don’t get it lol.

There is no denying that using this mask is a pleasurable experience, however, I still don’t see or feel any groundbreaking results after regular usage. Then again, what’s my one negative review among a sea of five star ones?! I still stand by my lackluster opinions but learned from reading user reviews that this mask proves to be highly effective for acne prone skin. My skin type has always been normal so it makes sense that I might not have seen such obvious improvements but it still would have been nice!

Acne prone skin or not, I still wouldn’t recommend paying the full twenty-eight dollar price tag for this mask. But, it is worth a try if you find it at a discount store like TJMaxx. I’m happy that I continued to try this face mask despite little to no results and plan on finishing my jar of it. But I think I will stick to my Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow mask from The Body Shop from now on.

Which products have you been unimpressed with recently? What is your favorite product from The Body Shop? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

What I’m Looking Forward To This Summer

What I’m Looking Forward To This Summer

Hello! June has been a GREAT SUCCESS of a month so far due to my recent nuptials, double birthday with my husband, and bestie’s birthday and I have a feeling that this summer is only going to get better. Last summer was a wash for everyone because of the pandemic and now that Johnny and I are fully vaccinated, we plan on making the most of the season. While I can’t wait for weekend trips with Johnny and soaking up the sun for about ten minutes before I start to burn, I am especially looking forward to the following:

Swimming:

Even though I refuse to get my hair wet, that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy time in the pool! One of my clients has a pool and we try to utilize it at least once a week. The pool in my apartment community is also open for the summer and I’m really excited to go swimming with my niece and sister. I haven’t been able to use the community pool since the summer of 2019 when I moved in as it was closed last summer, which makes me even more eager for a swimming outing ASAP!

Shopping:

As you all know, Lil Red loves to shop and in late May I had my first non grocery related shopping trip since before the pandemic at Summit Mall. I had a huge haul at Altar’d State and American Eagle and the shopping bug has been biting ever since. I am very much looking forward to spending my birthday gift cards at TJMaxx, outings to the mall, and maybe even a day trip to my favorite outdoor mall, Crocker Park.

Shopping has always been very therapeutic to me and even if I walk away with nothing, I still have a blast. There is nothing better to me than spending an afternoon browsing and seeing what’s new in fashion. During the pandemic, I only did online shopping so being able to visit all of my favorite haunts in person this summer will be tons of fun and I definitely feel a mother/daughter trip to TJMaxx in my near future. 😀

Concerts:

My Johnny is a musician and his band, The Outside Voices, hasn’t played since early March of 2020. This is the longest he has gone without playing live music in over a decade and I know he is just dying to perform again. And I am just dying to watch! We are both counting down the days till their first show this summer and are equally excited to see other bands too. In fact, we just went to our first concert together in Marietta this past weekend and had an awesome time seeing our friends in Jake Dunn & The Blackbirds perform. Long live local music!

Happy summer to all!

What are you looking forward to this summer? What is your favorite warm weather activity? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Face Mask Festivities: The Body Shop’s Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask Edition

Face Mask Festivities: The Body Shop’s Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a new edition of Face Mask Festivities! It has been a while since I tried out a new face mask and I feel like I haven’t written a review for one in forever. For a hot minute, I was trying out at least one new sheet mask per week but I fell out of it so I was very excited when my mom surprised me with a face mask from The Body Shop when she was doing some shopping at TJMaxx. It is always such fun for me to try out a new product and, although the Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask left a lot to be desired, I still felt so pampered afterwards all the same. Let’s discuss:

Because there is no Body Shop in my area, I have fallen behind on all of their product lines and didn’t even know their Japanese Matcha Tea line existed. Other than a few random online orders, I pretty much exclusively will get TBS products at TJMaxx and I love when I am able to find their skin and bath and body care for a fraction of the price. My mom was so sweet to get the Pollution Clearing Mask for me and, as always, she is the queen of Sweet Surprises!

Over this past weekend, I tried out my new face mask and my first impression of it when I opened the jar was that it looked like mint chocolate chip ice cream, lol. It also smelled just like a fresh cup of green tea, which was really nice. The mask had a creamy texture, which made its application super easy and I left it on for ten minutes, as recommended.

When using a new face mask, I never expect too much in terms of the results so that I am never disappointed. While I did notice that my skin looked a bit brighter and felt slightly smoother, I was not blown away after washing the mask off. Had this been an actual TBS purchase, this would have been a bigger blow because their face masks are not cheap and I would never recommend paying full price for it. However, if you happen to see it at a discount store like TJs, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

Despite not seeing groundbreaking results, there is something to be said about the wonderful quality of The Body Shop’s products and I did enjoy using the Japanese Matcha Tea mask. I also loved being able to break out my Ralph Lauren robe from my brother and his family for the ultimate spa experience. The Pollution Clearing mask was mild enough that you can use it fairly often throughout the week, which is what I plan on doing, and I will be looking forward to more pampering in my future!

What is your favorite line from The Body Shop? Where do you get the best deals on skin care? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
