New Neon Orange & Pink Nails

Hi!! This past Tuesday was a big day for yours truly. I had a nail appointment, a shopping trip to TJMaxx, and went to see The Struts at the House Of Blues for my birthday that night. It was SO fun to get primped and pampered, shop for a sassy addition to my planned OOTD, and show everything off at the concert! It definitely made the day feel like a birthday adventure even though it has been two months since I turned thirty-one. Elysian Nails was where the extravaganza started and I wanted to go bright with the colors for two reasons. 1) It would be fab for the concert. And 2) It would also be a final hurrah for summer colors. Check it out:

Elysian Nails has a nail polish wall and several books that are exclusive to gel and dip colors. Before, I would browse the polish wall for my selection. My past two fills, however, I have been able to consult the books! Elysian recently got a collection of gel polishes with matching nail polish and I have loved exploring brand new colors. It was incredibly easy to make a decision on what colors I wanted to use because they were actually side by side in the book of beauty: A neon orange and pink. They looked so good paired together that I didn’t even bother thinking about other options!

Have you ever had a fill when as soon as your tech starts working on your nails, you know damn well you should have got a full set instead? That is exactly what happened when my go to girl started working her magic. One of my nails had popped off a few days before and that needed tending to. I didn’t realize as soon as the polish was off that everything needed tending to! They were SO janky with lifts and regrowth and I felt terrible that my tech had to deal with all that mess. As always, she dealt with it in genius fashion and by the time she was done, it was as if I had got a full set anyways. They felt so strong and sturdy and looked amazing to boot. A full set is DEFINITELY in order next time though and I can’t wait to spend an evening at my happy place next month. ❤

A great concert needed great everything, nails included. Shout out to my tech for always getting me right!

New Cherry & Orange Nails

New Cherry & Orange Nails

Hello!! I have had an incredible couple of days of pampering compliments of Elysian Nails. This past Friday, I enjoyed a pedicure appointment with Johnny’s mom and aunt and it was heavenly! I haven’t gotten a pedicure since last year and just like the last time, I left the salon wondering why the heck I don’t do that more often. Then, I remembered my talons which always take priority over toes! After getting my tootsies right, I was back at the salon a few days later for a fill featuring the sweetest Cherry and Orange combo. Check it out:

During my last fill, I was feeling an orange and pink combo. However, my tech showed me some brand new colors and I fell in love with the prettiest light pink and purple glitter polishes. I vowed to do the original colors I had in mind at my next appointment and it definitely made the daunting task of selecting nail polish a breeze! Granted, I couldn’t even remember the colors I was going to use but, hey, I knew it was orange and pink so anything in that realm would be close enough. I ended up with a shade called Cherry and another simply called Orange and we were in business! This is the perfect fruity and bright pairing to welcome warm weather with. Or, at least dream about because the weather has been crap lousy here. -_-

Once my colors were selected, it was time for my tech to work her magic and you know I hit her with the old “long time no see” considering it had only been four days! Hilarious, I know. 😀 As always, work her magic my nail tech did and, as always, she fixed them up just right. I never really notice any lifting or problem areas until the polish is off, like at this appointment for instance, and my tech repaired any uh-ohs with ease and speed. After two repairs, shaping, filing, and painting I was still in time for my next shift at work. I genuinely have no idea how she does it!

The weather might not be the best but my nails are fresh and gives me a dose of sunshine every time I look at them. I’ll take it until this rain, rain goes away!

New Tangerine & Neon Blue Nails

Hello!! On Tuesday, I spent some time getting some much needed pre birthday pampering at Elysian Nails. I was in desperate need of a fill and I was even more eager to go because my nail tech just did a manicure for my mom last week. Tuesday has become my new go to fill day and I make my way to the salon during a break from work. It is the perfect treat to get me through the day because nothing is better than showing off some fresh new claws! I was ready for some bright, summery colors for this appointment and am loving what I picked out:

Sometimes, I have absolutely no idea what colors I want my nails to be. Other times, inspiration strikes and that was the case for this fill. It has been heating up in Akron, Ohio and I had vivid orange hues on the mind. But paired with what? At the nail polish wall, I made a beeline to a neon tangerine shade and it was exactly what I wanted. I toyed with the idea of purple and neon pink, but an electric blue caught my eye and it was game over. Orange and blue is a combo that screams fun in the sun and we were in business for some poppy, so bright you need shades nails.

During my nail appointments, my tech and I normally catch up on the latest in each other’s lives. This time around, there wasn’t too much to discuss because I literally just saw her four days ago lol. This was totally fine by me because I could just sit back, relax, and go brain dead for a bit before it was back to work! While I zoned out, I swapped between watching HGTV and the magic that was unfolding at my tech’s station. Before this appointment, a few of my nails were definitely lifting and were feeling less than sturdy. In what felt like no time at all, I had a fill so good that it felt like I had a brand new set on. They are sharpened and shaped just the way I like them and just right for ringing in the summer vibes!

This was just Part One to my birthday pampering and I can’t wait for Part Two later this month for a brand new do at the Shear Shop. I am stepping into my thirties in maximum style!

New Orange & Purple Glitter Nails

New Orange & Purple Glitter Nails

Hello! For my 29th birthday, I got SO pampered by spending Wednesday at The Shear Shop getting my hair did and Thursday morning at Elysian Nails for a fill. I was so excited for both appointments and they were just what I needed to get Lil Red’s groove back! Both my hair and nails were in desperate need of improvement. I hadn’t gotten my hair done in SIX months and my nails were looking really jank with two broken tips. In fact, I broke one in my sleep during a night terror, which was really sucky to say the least lol.

Thankfully, my darling Mary at Elysian Nails got me right with a super speedy fill and repairs and I am obsessed with the end result! Check it out:

With a rainbow of colors in my hair, I needed fun nails to match and wanted bright, summery shades. I loved the glitter top coat that we used on a few of my nails last fill and knew that I wanted to use it again, but on what?! At the nail polish wall, I was instantly drawn to the pretty, jammy purple you see above and thought that it would look perfect with orange. So, I selected a neon hue for all of the Bird of Paradise vibes and headed off to Mary’s station so she could work her magic.

The past few times I have gotten my nails done, my schedule has been drastically different than usual. Normally, I opt for an early afternoon time to fully enjoy the pampering after work. However, I have needed first thing in the morning appointments to get to work on time and go to the Cleveland Clinic afterwards. Mary knows this, and has delivered with an under an hour fill every time and it is SO appreciated.

Despite the speed Mary works at, we still manage to catch up on everything going on with each other, girl talk, and gab about anime. During our chatter, she doesn’t miss a beat and my nails turn out amazing every single time. She knows exactly what I like and I barely pay attention to the process because I know that my hands are in the best hands. I am in love with how my talons turned out from the shape and sharpness to the adorable polish combination. As always, she turned my outgrown, broken ass nails into a work of art!

After this appointment, I will be back on my normal work schedule and will be able to have a fill without feeling rushed. I can’t wait, but even on time crunch appointments, I always leave Elysian Nails feeling like a million bucks thanks to my go to girl!

New Light Blue & Tangerine Nails

New Light Blue & Tangerine Nails

Hello!!! This past week, my talons were in desperate need of a fill. They were grown out and one was lifting badly, which was perfectly awful. Unfortunately, my normal salon was closed for their holiday break when the lifting incident occurred so I enlisted the help of my tech for a salon she recommends. Then, she said exactly what I hoped she would: She would come to my apartment and do them for me! What. An. ANGEL. There was nothing better than getting my nails done in my own home and I seriously felt like a celebrity – it was amazing!! Check out my new and improved claws:

My tech, admittedly, didn’t have as expansive as a nail polish selection as the salon but when she sent me my choices the light blue and tangerine orange instantly stuck out to me. I love bright blue and orange together and it makes me think of a day at the beach. However, the softer hues of these polishes make it feel appropriate to start thinking spring with and it’s a nice change of pace from the typical darker shades for winter.

I have never had any type of salon service done at my home that wasn’t something I was capable of doing by myself. It was seriously one of the best experiences to be able to relax, girl talk, and hang out without being surrounded by other salon goers. If you have the opportunity for your nails, hair, etc. to be done at your place, then I can’t recommend it enough. I always feel pampered after a trip to the salon but this took it to a whole new level. Plus, it made my apartment smell like a nail salon and it was, honestly, freaking awesome lol.

An afternoon at my apartment salon was just what I needed and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The constant applying of nail glue to my lifted nail was getting so annoying. My nails look amazing and I am so thankful to my tech for working her magic!

Hello! After a long month in between my last fill, I was so ready to go to Elysian Nails and get my claws looking right. Although I got pink nails last time too, I found myself craving spring colors and ended up with this combination that I am loving:

When I was driving to the salon, it was completely grey outside and I felt a bit disheartened over the fact that we were due for some snow the following day. I needed something bright and fun on my nails as a pick me up and found myself thinking of colors of the sunset, hence the hues that I chose. My darling nail tech told me that my polish colors reminded her of Polly Pocket and that made me feel even happier with my selections. I freaking LOVED Polly Pocket in my youth and I still do now. I regret every day that I gave my old Polly dolls away!

Since January, my work schedule has been jam packed with a lot of driving. Like a lot, a lot. It felt so good to clock out for the day, head to Elysian, and sink in the salon chair to get pampered. As soon as I entered the salon and saw all of the techs who I just adore, I instantly perked up and, as always, walked out feeling like a billion bucks. Now, if only the colors on my nails reflected the weather outside! 😀

Orange Sherbet & Turquoise Nails

Orange Sherbet & Turquoise Nails

Hi! I had not gotten my nails done since before my wedding and I was in desperate need of a fill. While it was a little sad to bid farewell to my amazing studded red stiletto nails, I am loving the summery color combo that I selected. For my fill, I went with an orange sherbet and turquoise polish. I drew inspiration from the embroidery on my new Luna Moon peasant blouse and the polish colors just scream “fun in the sun” to me. As always, my favorite nail tech, Gabby, completely knocked it out of the park with my fill. All of the people who work at Elysian Nails are incredibly skilled but there is nothing better than being pampered and having lots of girl talk too. I had been looking forward to filling Gabby in on my wedding and it was so nice to sit down and chat after a long, stressful day at work.

Despite having such summery nails, I am not a huge fan of the season at all. I hate being overly hot and, although I had quite a few recent clothing hauls, summer fashion is my least favorite. Lil Red loves to layer! It’s hard not to smile whenever I look at my new nails, though. The orange sherbet and turquoise combo takes me right to the beach on a perfect seventy-five degree day. 😀

This past month has, truly, been a whirlwind for me between getting married, change ups at work, and mine and Johnny’s double birthdays. Being at Elysian Nails for barely over an hour with the sole purpose of relaxing and hanging out with my nail tech was so needed and I felt much more at peace after my appointment. The power of pampering!

Orange You Glad For An OOTD?

Hellloooo everyone and welcome to an OOTD post brought to you by my BFF birthday outing at Sarah’s Vineyard. When it comes to summer OOTDs, it is so important to dress appropriately for the heat. And, for some, that just means shorts and a t-shirt. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But, why settle for shorts when you can bust out a skirt or dress without wearing tights underneath! So easy with a breezy above AND below the kneesies, skirts and dresses are perfect for staying cool and still looking oh so chic.

The outfit below features my favorite summer staple that really packs a punch for styling made simple. Take a look:

Who? What? Wear?

The great thing about a staple skirt is that you just throw it on, pair it with a crop top and killer shoes, and go. I absolutely adore my body con skort by Zac & Rachel featuring oranges, flowers, and polka dots for a combination that’s totally sweet and summer approved. The stark white fabric against such a bright pattern creates a delightful contrast and it screams fun in the sun… or at the winery!

Because the Zac & Rachel number is a statement in itself, the rest of the outfit didn’t need much for it to work. My go to black crop from Target hit just the right spot above the higher rise of the skirt for an enhanced hourglass shape. And, to create some more body magic, a pair of wedges were a must to give legs for days. I love my Carlos Santana wedges for a more leggy look because of the slingback strap, which doesn’t make an awkward cut off line and provides all the length, even on us short girls.

With a pattern as bold as the one on my skort, I didn’t want to go overboard with accessories. However, I loved the color combo of the oranges with my turquoise purse by Urban Expressions for a sunset style pairing. Big hoops, huge sunnies, and BOOM – you’ve got yourself a slammin summer OOTD.
