My Friend, Tyler

My Friend, Tyler

If you’ve read my previous post MIDDLE AGED MONDAY, then you’ll know all about my good friend Tyler. Today we had our last hang out until January, because he leaves for basic training in Oklahoma on October 20th. (The same day that I start school!) Tyler and I met during a show we both performed in back in March. Amongst all of the cast members of the show, Suicide in B Flat, Tyler and I just clicked. We both share a very similar snarky sense of humor and a love for all things pop culture. We instantly bonded over music, television, and a deep love for Chipotle. Tyler was really the only cast mate from Suicide who I wanted to keep in touch with after the show was over. And I’m so glad we did. We’ve been hanging out together ever since. As a brief refresher, Middle Aged Monday (AKA MAM) involves day drinking, crafting, watching The Breakfast Club, eating Chipotle, and going on hikes – just to name a few of the activities! That’s just a brief description of our wild and crazy hang outs together. Our afternoon excursion today was bittersweet, because I feel like I barely got any time with him at all, when really I got almost eight full months with him. But then again, any amount of time feels like not enough when someone you care about goes away for a while. Tyler will be stationed in California after he completes his basic training and I’m soooo excited to visit him there! We already have plans of drinking on the beach, drinking in the bars, and going to amusement parks. Basically…we’re gonna be moving MAM to California! Complete with Hawaiian shirts and fanny packs: the middle aged tourist essentials. Tyler will also be home for a few weeks in January so we’ll have some much needed catch up time then! I can’t wait! I’m so thankful that he’ll be able to text me when he can, and of course we’ll be writing to each other too! I’m so excited to send him novels of what’s going on in my life and how boring Ohio is! Here’s a few pics from some of our hang outs and from Suicide in B Flat:

I love you so much Tyler! I’m so thankful for all of the fabulous memories we have together. Most importantly, I’m beyond grateful that I have an amazing friend for life. Please send good vibes my friends way as he enters this new and exciting chapter in his life! Have a great night guys. -Sarah

Happy one month blogiversary to me!

Today marks my one month blogiversary of http://www.lifewithlilred.com and I am SO happy! Special thanks to all of my readers and followers for going on my blog journey with me! Only one month in and I already feel like I accomplished a lot on my site. I feel like we covered a lot of ground with each other, and that’s very exciting to me! Best believe there’s more to come on lifewithlilred! In other fantastic news, today is my first day at my new job at Next and I am SOOOOO excited!!!!! I’m really hyped to get back to work and meet my new coworkers. These two weeks of unemployment have been fabulous though. In those two weeks I finished everything I needed to attend school at Tri-C on October 20th. I think that’s what I’m particularly proud of. I did everything all by myself with no former knowledge of how to do it. When I was in high school, a lot of teachers didn’t think I was going to graduate, so they never prepared me to go to college. Well ha ha on them because here I am now going to school and paying for it all on my own to boot! Lil Red is on fire! It took me over two years to get myself back to school, but I’m finally doing it – and you know what they say: it’s better late than never. Which ironically is the phrase I used when I would turn in my homework weeks late in high school 😉 . But I promise that won’t be the case in college! I know what I want to do and I’m ready to do it. Working retail for four years has really shown me that I don’t want to do that for the rest of my life. If I didn’t push myself to go to school, I firmly believe I’d still be stuck in the PacSun rut for years to come – and that’s not okay. I’m finally recognizing my own potential to succeed in the world, and it’s an amazing feeling. I feel like I’m blossoming into an actual adult. It’s hard to feel that way when you’re stuck working in the mall 24/7. I have exactly what I want now. A cool part time job and a college education. What could be better?!

In just one month of blogging, I feel like you guys have already experienced a whirl wind of a journey with me. If you read some of my very first posts, I was extremely depressed. Now I feel like the strong emotions I was feeling prior to these past few weeks are way easier to manage. I feel like the concrete block that was strapped onto my chest has finally been released and I can breathe easy. I have the whole world ahead of me now. These next few months are going to be a roller coaster of new experiences, and I’m happy to say that I’m finally ready to put my hands up and enjoy the ride.

Have a fantastic Sunday guys! Wish me luck on my first day of work!! I can’t wait to tell you all about it! -Sarah

Being “That Girl”

Being “That Girl”

So last night I went out with my sister Kristen and her boyfriend Ramon, and had an absolute drunken blast. Now I totally understand that some people won’t appreciate this entry, but that’s okay. I also promise you that there’s a point to this post.  Let’s get this story started:

The night started out with pre gaming at Ramon’s place. We drank the ultimate girly drinks of strawberitas and Angry Orchard. Honestly I’m such a lightweight that I was pretty intoxicated by the time we got to the bowling alley, where we met up with a bunch of our friends. I’ve never had so much fun bowling in my life, even though I gutter balled almost every time! Minus the one true miracle that occurred when I somehow managed to get a strike! “HOW DID THAT EVEN HAPPEN?!” While at the bowling ally myself and the crew indulged in more alcohol, this time we were drinking on actual liquor. Fireball and Coke and Long Islands for me and my sister. This is when I began turning into “That Girl”. After my first Fireball and Coke drink, I was completely and utterly wasted. (#lightweight) That’s when you would think the night began to take a turn for the worse, but really my night just got better. The only sucky part of the night was throwing up in the bowling ally bathroom – that was pretty gross. But like a champ I headed back to my friends and threw another perfect gutter ball afterwards. It was only midnight at this point in my drunk adventures, the night was still young, and would continue for another hour or so. How could I forget to mention my knight in bowling shoes in my drunken fairy tale? The entire night myself and this really cute guy named Andrew were pretty flirty with each other. He tried in vain to teach me how to throw the bowling ball and we were both having such a good time. And yes, we TOTALLY made out. Score! God, he was so cute. The end. 🙂

The point of the story? That sometimes, its okay to be “That Girl”. Am I condoning going out and getting wasted every night? Absolutely not. Am I condoning going out for the first time in ages and having a great time? Absolutely. There’s nothing wrong with being a twenty year old every once in a while. Sometimes I forget that I’m only twenty….I feel so much older. It also doesn’t help that all of my friends forget that I’m still a “baby”. It was really fun doing something like bowling with a drunken twist. I felt safe while I was with my sister, Ramon, and our posse. I felt safe knowing we had a designated driver to get us home. So why not live in the moment? Why not indulge for one night? I have a hell of a hangover right now, in fact, my head is throbbing as I type this – but that’s just one small price to pay for a night out.

Happy Sunday and best of luck to anyone nursing a hangover today. I feel for you. -Sarah

Fall crafts I want to try!

So as all of you know, I LOVE crafting with my friends. I was looking for some quick and easy crafts to make on our next hang outs together and found quite a few that I like a lot. I’ve been really drawn to the candle holder crafts lately. I think they add such a neat and unique touch to any room. Not only are they great decor, but they make awesome gifts too. I wanted to share all of these cool new crafts I plan on trying with you guys. If there’s any crafts that you’ve completed recently that you think are awesome, please share them with me!

I’m really looking forward to making the candle holders with the haunted house and bat stencils. They look so cool! Hopefully mine turn out just as well. I also really like the canvas art that’s set as my featured image. As you all know, I love me a good canvas art, as you can see by my previous crafting posts 😉 The little acorn owls are seriously the cutest things ever. I feel like this would be an awesome craft to make with little ones during your fall family gatherings this year. So precious!

What crafts are you guys currently working on? If you’ve made anything similar to the pictures I posted, PLEASE show me! I’d love to see it! Wish me luck on my fall crafting adventures! -Sarah

A music dream come true!!!

A music dream come true!!!

Oh my goodness guys I am SO excited!!!! It’s been a dream of mine to see AFI in concert for ages, and on October 14th that dream will come true! They’re playing in Pittsburgh, and my sister and I are making the trip up there to see them. I’ve loved AFI ever since I was eleven years old. Sing the Sorrow was one of the very first albums I ever bought. Their music is just so incredible to me, and the fact that I finally get to see them live after loving them for so many years makes me giddy!!!

^^ Do yourselves a favor and watch one of their performances of Miseria Cantare and The Leaving Song Part 2. I watched this the other day and it blew my mind. They sound EXACTLY if not better than how they sound on the album. It takes very seasoned performers and extremely talented musicians to achieve that. Another reason I’m insanely amped for this show is because of my undying love for Mister Davey Havok. Lord have mercy on me. I’ve been so madly in love with his fine self ever since the day I discovered their music. HE’S SO GORGEOUS!!!!!!

IMG_0550[1]

HOLY MOLY!!!! He’s so beautiful. I will find him at the concert. And I WILL make sweet, passionate love to him. And you can take that statement to the bank! Where are all of my AFI fans at on here? Comment me your favorite song or album by them! Happy Hump Day! -Sarah

Oh you crafty huh? Part two!

Standard

I had a lovely time hanging out with one of my dear friends Tyler today. One of our favorite things to do when we hang out is indulge in a bottle of wine and get nice and crafty! Here’s the results and the how to’s of our fall inspired creation today!

IMG_0563[1]

All that’s needed for this craft is:

  • mason jar
  • acorns
  • rope
  • candle holder
  • candle

Here are the steps for making this cute little craft, even though it’s pretty self explanatory!

  • Acquire acorns! Go to your nearest hiking trail or even your backyard and turn into a human squirrel and collect as many acorns as needed to semi fill your mason jar.
  • Place the candle holder with candle into said mason jar. Tyler and I purchased a taller candle holder and a tea light candle, and the acorns fit very nicely around them.
  • Fill your jar with as little or as many acorns as you’d like. I’d recommend filling it a little more than halfway so you get a nice effect from the candle light peeking out of all the nooks and crannies of the acorns piled on each other.
  • Tie the rope around the top of the jar for the final touch.
  • Light your candle, dim the lights, and enjoy your new fall themed candle jar!

And there you have it! Simple as that. A ten minute craft gave Tyler and myself a fun new autumn decoration! If you guys have any quick and easy fall crafts, let me know! Have a great night! -Sarah

Beckwith Orchards

Beckwith Orchards

I had a lovely afternoon outing in Kent today with my parents at Beckwith Orchards. It was the perfect fall day in Ohio to go to the apple farm! The property is just gorgeous, filled with flowers, honey bees, and apple trees as far as the eye can see. They have a biking and hiking trail and a super quaint little gift shop filled with bakery, decor, and a million different types of apples to taste test. The orchard has been family owned and operated for over 125 years, and you could definitely tell. There was a home like atmosphere throughout the property, and all the workers were extremely knowledgeable about the apples and the products they sell. They were so friendly too! They all seemed to really be enjoying themselves, which added to the family like touch of Beckwith. I could have spent hours just roaming their acres of land and filling my bag with the luscious apples adorning each tree. If you live in Ohio and are looking for a fun afternoon trip for your family, I definitely recommend giving Beckwith Orchards a try. Make sure you get some of their apple cider while you’re there, it’s so ridiculously delicious!!! Here’s their website with their hours, directions, and event calendar: http://www.beckwithorchards.com/index.html

I thought it would be fun to share some pictures from the coolest place I’ve ever been in my life: Dr. Evermor’s sculpture junkyard. My family visited this wonderland when we were vacationing in Wisconsin this past summer. Dr. Evermor is a former demolition expert who spent years collecting machinery and scrap metal for all of his amazing sculpture projects. He is best known for his 300 ton sculpture called the Forevertron (you can see bits and pieces of it in my pictures, it was way too big to be photographed completely by my iPod. I’d highly recommend googling it so you can see it in all of it’s 50 foot high glory!) Dr. Evermor apparently made this sculpture to “launch himself into the heavens” after he passes away. The sculpture park is open free to the public and closes every night at sun down. If I could, I would spend every day there. There were so many incredible sculptures and projects to look at, and everywhere you turned, a new discovery was made. I would give anything to be able to sit in the tea house gazebo located in the Forevertron and write all day, or just sit there and think, and take in the amazing surroundings. If you’re ever in Wisconsin do not, I repeat DO NOT pass up the opportunity to visit Dr. Evermor’s. And if you do go there, I’m sure you will join me in saying that it’s one of the best places in the world. -Sarah

Body mods

If there’s one thing I love, it’s body modifications. The Pic Stitch above is of my three tattoos, “After the flood all the colors came out” is a lyric from Beautiful Day by U2. My favorite song by my favorite band. I got it the day I turned eighteen, much to my parents disapproval ;). I also have “Do I dare?” on my arm, which was my favorite quote in the book Night Film, which I highly recommend to everyone! My newest tattoo I got this month is from Jack White’s song Lazaretto and it says “When I say nothing, I say everything”. I plan on getting the goddess Isis pictured below my Pic Stitch as my major side piece probably this winter. I love her story. I love everything she stands for. As we delve deeper into this blog, I might talk about some of the reasons why her story touches my heart so deeply. She has a very significant meaning in my life and I’m very excited to have her with me for forever. Don’t even get me started on piercings though, because I could go on for DAYS about how much I looooove piercings! They were my first love. After begging my mom to take me to get my belly button pierced at fifteen, I was hooked. I’ve gotten pierced and repierced over thirty times. At the moment I only have my belly button, my ears, and my four piercings on my nostrils. I had to take all of my piercings out when I was the assistant manager at The Body Shop. I was SO pissed! The only ones I’ve gotten redone after that fiasco was my nose piercings. But let me break down everything I’ve ever gotten, just so you guys can see how much of a fanatic I am!!!
2 industrial bars going through my hips
8 dermal anchors on my hips (I had four done at once, and then another four when I got them redone)
8 dermal anchors on my collarbones (I had four done at once, and then, like my hips, got them repierced)
8 piercings on my nose (I had four done at once, then, like my hips and collarbones, got it repierced)
2 on my lip (snakebites)
4 on my ear
1 on my cartilage
1 on my belly button
Now do you believe me when I say how much I love piercings? Haha I would really like to get my septum done soon, and am also playing around with the idea of getting my snakebites redone. So many body mods so little time!!!! If you guys have any piercing or tattoo questions, please shoot me a comment! Also, if you would like to see some pics with my old piercings in, shoot me a friend request on Facebook (Sarah Mushenheim) Sweet dreams! -Sarah
