Busted, Disgusted, Never to be Trusted

So I was browsing on http://www.elle.com yesterday night to find some new fashion ideas and ended up in a world of disgust from this page: http://www.elle.com/news/fashion-style/accessory-du-jour-hyein-seo-fear-mink-stoles-1

If you don’t feel like looking at the article, at least check out the picture that the article was about:

elle-accessory-du-jour-blog

These mink stoles were featured in designer Hyein Seo’s collection. As a HUGE animal rights advocate, vegetarian of over eleven years, and a gal who puts her foot down to wearing any type of non man made material – I am horrified. Anyone who thinks that wearing the fur of an animal who was tortured and mutilated is okay, can go ahead and stop reading my post now. The use of fur in the name of “fashion” is absolutely ludicrous. The minks that were used in the stoles in Seo’s collection more than likely came from a fur farm. It pains me too much to even retype some of the methods of murder used in the fashion industries personal hells on earth. If you’d like to further educate yourself, I highly recommend checking these websites out: http://www.bornfreeusa.org/a2_fashion.php and http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-clothing/animals-used-clothing-factsheets/inside-fur-industry-factory-farms/.

So many people refuse to wear cosmetic products not tested on animals, and the same should go for clothing as well. Every fashion designer who used fur or exotic skins in his or her collection is contributing to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of animals per year. Shoppers and fashion enthusiasts alike need to show compassion towards our sweet animal friends. Maybe then the blood of millions of little creatures will begin to wash off the hands of big names in fashion such as Burberry, Alexander Wang, and Valentino to name a few.

Be a friend to animals and buy fur free. Buy non animal tested products. Sign petitions to give the fur industry what for! Be kind to every thing with a beating heart. -Sarah

Lil Red Shopping Tips! Part 3!

Lil Red Shopping Tips! Part 3!

My go to place for bras as mentioned in Lil Red Shopping Tips, is none other than Victoria’s Secret. I’ve been absolutely in love with their Dream Angels demi bra collection for years now. Here’s just a small selection of my bra collection:

IMG_0859[2]

So gorgeous!!! As you can see, the Dream Angels bras are b-e-a-utiful. On a lot of bras I’ve noticed you have to sacrifice beauty for support – but not these babies. I’m supported and locked and loaded all day every day in all of my bras. They update the designs on the Dream Angels collections constantly, and you can also pick from a push up or demi bra in the DA fit. Definitely take the time to check out this link: https://www.victoriassecret.com/bras/angels-by-victorias-secret where you can shop the Dream Angels collection!

Now a lot of people claim that Victoria’s Secret is too expensive…and they’re absolutely right – if you don’t know how to shop there. My first recommendation is applying for the VS Angel credit card, where you can rack up points according to how much money you spend and earn gift cards every month. I usually earn at least a ten dollar gift card every month when my bill comes. One time I earned a $45 gift card which made for a very fun shopping trip. I used that gift card to purchase my bikini, and only paid EIGHT DOLLARS for the top and bottom. Once you have their credit card, you get a free panty coupon, a ten dollars off a bra coupon, and a free item with a purchase of $75 or more coupon at least every two weeks. That’s a lot of free panties! And with no purchase necessary to get them, your panty drawer will be stocked up in no time.

My second recommendation is entering in your email address every time you make a purchase at VS. The nice thing about their emailing list is that they don’t bombard you with emails. They usually only contact you when something major is going on, like their Semi Annual Sale or to give you some free panty coupons which is always awesome. The more times you enter your email, the more likely it will be for you to get the email coupons rather than sale notifications.

My final recommendation is SHOP THEIR SALES!!!!! Whenever the Semi Annual Sale is happening it’s so easy to stock up on bras, panties, or beauty supplies for a fraction of the original price. During a particularly good haul, I paid twelve dollars for FIVE BOTTLES of my favorite perfume. You won’t find that deal ANYWHERE ELSE, I can promise you that. My mom once walked away with three gorgeous slips and two new bras for about sixty dollars. That’s the price of ONE of their bras. Why pay full price for anything when you don’t have to?! If you’re willing to wait for the sales, you’ll never complain about Victoria’s Secret being too expensive again.

Lil Red’s Fall Fashion Obsession!

Standard
Lil Red’s Fall Fashion Obsession!

My fall fashion staple this year is everything khaki! I think it’s the most fantastic neutral in the whole world. To narrow my obsession down even more, let me specify with these three jackets – which I plan on wearing all fall and winter long!

IMG_0854[1]

All three of these coats are from PacSun, the trench coat is Jack and the two pictured on the right are LA Hearts. I bought that gorgeous belted trench when I was 16. I remember seeing it and thinking it was the most beautiful thing in the world. It’s probably the most classic article of clothing I own. Therefore, four years later, I’m still madly in love with it. My favorite way to wear my trench is with a super sharp pair of skinny jeans, knee high boots, and a bowler hat. Whenever I work variations of this outfit, I seriously feel like a model strutting down the streets of New York City. It makes me feel SO chic and stylish. It’s such a simple outfit too, yet so timeless. Ten years from now, when I’m 30, I know I’ll be wearing something similar. My LA Hearts parkas are also fantastic fall staples and layering pieces. The top right jacket was purchased a year ago, and it still remains as my go to fall coat. The contrast between the khaki structure and the charcoal gray sleeves is so alluring to me. And don’t even get me started on the cute Aztec elbow patches! Love. No matter where I go, I always get complimented on this coat. Both right hand pictures are great for layering. I usually pair both of these with a sweater and some type of scarf to tuck into the neckline. When paired with something heavier underneath, I can usually get away with wearing these babies into the snowy winter weather. One thing that I fell in love with about my bottom right coat was the utilitarian feel of it. I liked the symmetry of the two sets of pockets and I thought the toggles on the waist were a really sweet touch. The plainness, for lack of a better word, of this coat really drew me in, because I knew I could pair it with anything and it would look awesome. I’m excited to pair this baby with a dress and tights this fall. Honestly, I’m excited to pair all of these with whatever I want this season, because no matter what, they’re going to go with 100% of my wardrobe. Khaki is a fantastic take on the usual neutrals such as black, brown, gray, or navy. It feels a lot fresher, which is what I really like about it. I’m always on the prowl for the “fresh take” on go to colors or pieces, and I think khaki fits this to the T!

What’s everyone’s go to fall piece? How do you plan on wearing it? How do you make your neutral pieces pop? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Into it/Over it!

Into it/Over it!

Alright, there’s a lot of new trends that this fall season will be bringing us, so here I am to rate them with an Into it! or Over it! Here we go!

Aubergine: Eggplant everything! I’m so very INTO IT! This color is such an awesome revamp of the traditional fall hue of oxblood. I can already picture it now: deep purple pea coats, knit scarves, trouser pants, the list goes on. It’s such a gorgeous, rich color. I’m so ready to find the perfect eggplant pieces to add into my wardrobe!

dress

Aztec Print: OVER IT. SO OVER IT. I’ve BEEN over it for over a year now, but Aztec print always seems to make a drastic comeback during the fall season. I want something new. Something original. Something that everyone and their brother doesn’t own already. To get more specific, I’m ESPECIALLY over the Aztec print cardigan. To stand out in a sea of tribal print this fall, I plan on getting a lot of solid hued cardis in rich colors such as emerald green, mustard yellow, and my new favorite aubergine. Once accessorized right, it will be an awesome statement!

cardi

The sweater and skirt combo: I’m very on the fence about this trend, so I’m neither into it or over it. I really like this cute combo on other people, but I’m not sure how I would feel about it on me. The pairings of the outfits I’ve seen are pretty dramatic, and too much fabric over powers my tiny frame. I don’t want to look like I’m swimming in the outfit! However. I give props to the girl pictured below, because she looks hella cute! If anyone has any tips or pics on how they styled this trend, let me know!

sweater

Emerald green: ALWAYS AND FOREVER INTO IT!!!!! So much yes. If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you’ll already know how very fond I am of any shade of green. Of course, I’m extremely biased to this trend, because green is my absolute favorite color to wear. There’s nothing better than a pasty pale girl with bright red hair working a deep green! I recommend that everyone find their favorite green piece immediately. Whether it be a scarf, handbag, or major piece like a blazer or pea coat. You won’t regret it!

green

Mickey Mouse print clothes: OVER IT. In fact, I HATE this trend. I don’t know where this recent obsession with Mickey print clothing has stemmed from but I am NOT a fan. I think this print is extremely childish. I can’t find one appealing thing about a grown woman wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt. Save it for Disneyland. *hair flip*

mickey

Animal print clothing (specifically snakeskin): I’m actually very INTO IT. However, let me state this right now – I will forever be OVER any type of animal hide used in ANY type of clothing. Whether it be leather, alligator, sheepskin, or snakeskin. Anything other than man made materials hold no place in my wardrobe. Having said that, I very much like the snakeskin pattern. I think it’s extremely edgy and quite sexy. It’s a very rock n’ roll print, and that’s definitely something I’m into! I would really like to find some cool snakeskin print skinnies to add to my wardrobe soon!

So there you have it! I’ll be adding on to my list of Into it/Over it trends through out the fall season. What are your favorite fall fashion statements so far? What are you over? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

OOTD – Hump Day!

IMG_0835[1]

My outfit of the day today was fairly simple. But I felt insanely confident in it, which is the most important thing when it comes to dressing yourself. As usual, here’s the breakdown of each article of clothing:

  • Challis pants: H&M (these are brand new, and they ran at roughly $35 for anyone interested in buying them)
  • Flannel: Hollister, but I got it from the Goodwill #bargain
  • Crop top: PacSun, LA Hearts
  • Heels: TJMaxx, Guess

I’m legit so in love with my army green pants it’s ridiculous. They’re so chic, flattering, and SO comfortable. I felt like I was in sweatpants all day, but of course was way more stylish ;). The flannel I wore today was such a good find from the Goodwill. It was the first flannel I ever bought and it remains my favorite one to this day. I thought the little “he loves me he loves me not” crop was so sweet, and it’s the perfect ‘wear under a flannel’ top. And of course, my Guess shoes are my babies! It was such an awesome TJ’s find, and I really liked the two similar but different shades of green in the heels and my pants together – it made for a really cool color block. The colors in my OOTD are some of my favorites, and they all complimented each other so well in each piece of clothing. I’m very fond of black and hunter green together, and the flannel over the crop top really tied the whole look together. I felt amazing strutting my stuff around the mall today when I went with my sister and mom!

So there you have it! My OOTD. What was everyone rockin today? What are some of your favorite color combos for fall? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Crocker Park: The best shopping in Ohio!

Standard
Crocker Park: The best shopping in Ohio!

I had an absolute blast yesterday at Crocker Park with one of my best friends, Kaytee. Crocker Park is a shopping wonderland. It’s a beautiful outdoor plaza that spans for about three blocks worth of amazing clothing and accessory stores, restaurants, and movie theaters. There’s seriously a store for everyone at Crocker Park. Fabulous shops include: Urban Outfitters, Francesca’s, H&M, Sephora, Anthropologie, Express, White House Black Market, Victoria’s Secret, MAC, and American Eagle. That list doesn’t even begin to cover everything though! Kaytee and I spent a lot of time in H&M, and it was so terrific. Two floors worth of beautiful clothes for really reasonable prices. It’s also always an added bonus when the cashier is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS and French! I left him my number, so keep your fingers crossed that he texts me! 😉 I was so happy because I FINALLY found a new pair of coated leather black skinny jeans at H&M to replace my falling apart pair from PacSun. They’re gorgeous. There’s zippers at the ankles for a cool rocker feel, and the knees are patched with quilted leather rather than the coated denim for an amazing touch. I also purchased a really awesome pair of army green challis pants with some very unique detailing. They feature four sets of pockets, two perfect squares on each side with a pocket flap, and then two rectangles on the hips with the fabric draping rather than looking like a traditional pocket. I always love browsing through Urban Outfitters whenever me and my girl make the trip up to Crocker Park, however I rarely buy anything from there. The store gives me great ideas of different looks and styles that I can usually find for much cheaper else where. Another store we spent a lot of time in was Francesca’s, which is a lovely little boutique filled with sweet clothing, shoes, and accessories. All of the clothes there are stunning. The colors used are all so rich and the detailing and patterns are to die for. It’s so fun going shopping with Kaytee because we actually shop when we’re together. Some people breeze through the store quickly and then leave. Not us. We take our time and go through each rack of clothes so we don’t miss anything. If we didn’t shop that way I wouldn’t have found my black jeans at H&M!! It’s a tradition of ours to get dinner at The Cheesecake Factory whenever we have a shopping day, so we held true to that tradition yesterday. Dinner was delicious, fettuccine alfredo for me and a burger for Kaytee. To finish the meal we got a piece of Dulce de Leche cheesecake to share. YUM. I’m gaining weight just thinking about it!! If you’re ever in Ohio and are looking for a shopping extravaganza, I can’t recommend Crocker Park enough. The shopping is fabulous and the outdoor plaza is so lovely that it’s fun to just grab a coffee and walk around. Here’s a picture of all of my purchases:

IMG_0834[1]

I also got a free panty from Victoria’s Secret and a free lotion from Bath and Body Works. I LOVE COUPONS!!! Here’s the official website for Crocker Park if you would like more information on it: http://www.crockerpark.com/

Have a happy Hump Day! -Sarah

OOTD: Sunday Funday

My outfit of the day today was fairly simple:

It was a breezy 70 degrees in Akron, Ohio today, so I decided to wear something easy and light while I ran my errands. You can’t see my shoes in these pictures, but here they are:

IMG_0819[1]

  • Dress: PacSun, O’Neil
  • Shoes: Kohl’s, Vera Wang

Unlike a lot of people, I really love a good high low dress, aka the “mullet dress”. I love the idea of maxi dresses, but they over power my tiny frame, so the high low dress is a perfect compromise. It shows just enough skin that I’m not drowning in the dress, and I think it looks extremely flattering on me. The shoes were a bargain from Kohl’s. I got these beauties probably three or so years ago for around twenty dollars. You can’t beat that for a pair of Vera Wang’s! These wedges are my go to summer shoes, so I thought it would be nice to give them one final hurrah before we enter into chilly October. This was the perfect running errands outfit for a semi-lazy Sunday Funday!

What was everyone rockin today? Can’t wait to scroll through all of your blogs later to see your OOTD! -Sarah

Ballin on a Budget

Ballin on a Budget

Yesterday night, I went shopping at TJMaxx with the intention of getting some hat boxes for my collection of vintage beauties left by my beloved grandma (RIP!!! <3).And I ended up leaving with these gorgeous babies instead:

IMG_0814[1]

Wanna guess how much I paid for them? Fifty? Thirty? Try ten! I had a ten dollar gift card from using my TJ’s credit card, so I got these little booties half price, as they were twenty originally – which is still crazy cheap! While browsing through the home goods aisles I began questioning if it was really necessary to buy hat boxes, when I could just store them in plastic containers in my closet to keep them away from the dust, dirt, and sunlight. Problem solved. Besides, they didn’t even have any hat boxes anyways. So naturally, I wander to the shoe section, because you’re not going to NOT look at the shoes when you’re at TJ’s. When I stumbled upon these Wanted brand shoes, I knew they had to be mine. I’m so obsessed. They have the perfect amount of rocker edge with the industrial feel of the buckles and black gemstones paired with the sweet touch of the pointed toe and tiny heel. I’m so excited to rock my new kicks with my black coated leather super skinny jeans for a punk rock feel. I’m also looking forward to completely changing the mood of these shoes by wearing them with a soft and flowy dress paired with tights and a sharp blazer. My sweet grandma loved TJ’s and I truly am her grand daughter because I definitely inherited her love for the store! It’s so much fun to spend an hour or two wandering through all their fabulous purses, shoes, accessories, and clothing for every occasion. It’s also always an added bonus when you can snag a new addition to your shoe collection for a fantastic bargain! Such a successful shopping trip!

Where’s all my TJMaxx shoppers on here? What’s been your favorite thing you purchased from there? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Sunday. -Sarah

It’s another gorgeous day in good ol’ Akron, Ohio – so I thought I would break out my sassy fashionista on the go look. Here’s the usual breakdown of where each item was purchased:

  • Dress: Macy’s, Alfani
  • Wedges: Kohl’s, Vera Wang
  • Hat: PacSun
  • Purse: American Eagle Outfitters
  • Necklace: TJMaxx

This dress is one of my absolute favorites. I got it a few years back at Macy’s for SEVEN DOLLARS! Best seven bucks I’ve ever spent! It was on the mark down rack and I thought it was just the prettiest thing. The colors are divine, and I love the shape of it – specifically the bell sleeves. Don’t even get me started on my Vera Wang wedges. I got these babies for about fifteen dollars marked down at Kohl’s, and they’re my go to pair of shoes. They’re so sassy, fun, and crazy comfortable! I could walk for miles in these babies and not think twice about it. I really love my motorcycle necklace from TJ’s, the fact that one of the wheels is actually a working watch is a unique little touch. This outfit cost me about $75 dollars or less, and I know I’m going to have all of these pieces of clothing and accessories for a very long time. You can’t beat 75 bucks for a dress, shoes, hat, purse, and jewelry to boot! Lil’ Red is forever ballin on a budget 😉

What’s your favorite thing you got for a crazy good deal? What outfit are you rocking today? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a fun filled Saturday, I know I will! -Sarah

Lil Red Shopping Tips! Part 2!

Standard
Lil Red Shopping Tips! Part 2!

My favorite place to buy my makeup and skin care is The Body Shop, hands down. My mom got me hooked on their products years ago, and then working there as an assistant manager deepened my love for their products even more. Everything that The Body Shop stands for as a company are things that I feel very passionately about, so it makes me feel good every time I shop with them. TBS lives on five principle values:

  • Against animal testing
  • Support community fair trade
  • Activate self esteem
  • Defend human rights
  • Protect the planet

At least one of these values are represented in everything sold at TBS. All of the products no matter what are non animal tested, which is SO very important to me. I refuse to buy anything with even a question of whether animals were tested on or not. The fact that I don’t have to play guessing games with my makeup and skincare is extremely relieving and refreshing. A lot of the ingredients used in each product typically comes from different third world countries, so we can help them promote their economy and provide better lives for the workers and their families. I like to think of everything I buy from TBS as a donation to a family in need, because all of these products are helping feed them or put a roof over their heads.

Now let’s talk about the best times to shop at TBS as far as deals go and some products! Honestly it’s a lot easier to shop online. The online promotions are usually way better than the ones run in store. Now a lot of people complain that The Body Shop is “too expensive”. But I’m here to tell you, that when shopped right – the prices are beyond reasonable. The best times to shop online are when the 40 or 50% off store wide sale is running. Whenever I get an email letting me know about this promo, I usually always stock up on all of my beauty must haves. And I’ll keep it real with you guys: I would NEVER buy these products if I didn’t know how to shop the deals, but when these promotions are running, you’re getting great quality product for the price of your drug store brand items. The best time to shop in store is without a doubt Black Friday and the week or so following it. The store always runs a 3 for $30 promotion, which is a great time to stock up on your more pricey items. Some of the heavy duty skin care at TBS ranges from about $30 to $36 dollars. If you stock up on these items during the 3 for $30 you’re essentially getting buy one get two free or even better if you buy the $36 dollar skin care! To add to the Black Friday fun, TBS always sells a super fun grab bag filled with awesome goodies. The bag is usually filled with at least $100 dollars worth of product, but they sell it for $25. You can’t beat that! One final great deal at TBS is their Love Your Body card. The LYB card sells for $10 dollars to get you started, but really it pays for itself because you get a $10 gift on your birthday. With the LYB card you save 10% with every purchase you make. For every $20 dollars you spend you earn a “point”. Rack up four points and you get a $15 dollar gift, and once you get eight points you get a $25 dollar gift and your card renews itself for free for another year. The best time to use these points is the month of your birthday. Then you can combine each gift for fifty dollars towards your purchase! Awesome!

If you read through my post about my makeup and skin care must haves, you’ll see that a vast majority of what I wrote about was from TBS. But allow me to dabble in talking about their product a little bit more. The Body Shop literally has everything. Ranging from skin care, makeup, hair care, product for men, lotions, perfumes, shower gels, gift sets, and home care such as candles, oil burners, and reed diffusers. TBS is widely known for their body butter. Each butter is made with a base of either cocoa or shea butter for heavy moisturizing. The butter comes in many different yummy scents as well, from strawberry and the fan favorite satsuma, to olive, chocolate, and the traditional cocoa butter. Their home care is just lovely too. The oil burners make great gifts. I got a lot of my friends the burner and different scented oils for the holiday last year and they all loved it. Whenever a friend of mine has a birthday, I usually make them a cute little TBS gift bag. Their lotions and shower gels are the perfect “pamper yourself” gift. A lot of my friends now shop at TBS because of how much they loved the products from their gift.
