If The Shoe Fits: L’Artiste Sandals Edition

Howdy!! My parents, AKA Santa, were so generous this Christmas and treated me to a gorgeous pair of mini wedged sandals by L’Artiste that I have been drooling over ever since I saw them on ModCloth. It was the last present that I opened and they clearly were saving one of the best for last! Check out these pretty new babies and let’s discuss:

Now, the heels on these sandals are, admittedly, pretty low for Lil Red but I am more than willing to sacrifice a few inches of height for them. I mean, just look at the patterns, colors, and details! As soon as I saw my new sandals on ModCloth, I was blown away by how beautiful they are. I love the contrast between the jet black base, the stark white stitches, and the shocking oil pastel style colors on the floral patterns. The chunky buckle adds a touch of edge and I feel like I would be the belle of the farmer’s market in them!

I am so looking forward to sporting my sandals come late spring and summer because they are going to be absolutely charming with sun dresses and shorts. And, even though I could walk for forever in twenty inch heels, the smaller wedge will be a nice break while browsing outdoor shopping centers. Can all of the winter snow melt now, or? ūüôā

My parents know how much I love my shoe collection and I am so happy to add these beauties to it. I felt so spoiled this Christmas and am so thankful for all of the wonderful gifts I received. I am also extremely thankful that Santa knows that I’m a size six! ‚̧

How would you style these sandals? Do you have a collection of anything? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Shoes Muse: Follow Your Heart, Not Fads

Hi everyone and welcome to another vacation guest post brought to you by the beautiful Tara over at Tarabells. If there’s one thing that Tara and I know, it’s that girls love shoes. So what better way to pay tribute to every female’s undying love for all things heels, flats, booties, and wedges than discussing some super cute summer footwear trends? Please take a look at Tara’s blog because it’s absolutely fantastic and then enjoy this post that she created special for my lifewithlilred readers:

Shoes Muse: Follow Your Heart, Not Fads

I’ll be the first to admit, when I read a trendy fashion blog post about the hottest thing this season (aka lace-up ballet flats) I turn into¬†Cookie Monster (“me WANT!”). But so often¬†what’s ‘in’ turns out to be uncomfortable, forgettable the next year, incompatible with most of our wardrobe, or worst of all – guilt inducing to wear out (I think this is because deep in our hearts we know shopping should be more of a thoughtful ritual and less of a¬†hasty catharsis).
One thing I have been hasty with is SHOES. So this year I did something different. Instead of vacant online perusing and clicking, I decided to visit stores in person A LOT. I did my research and took mental notes. I read four fashion books, yes, FOUR (I will share at the end of this article). I journaled about my personal style and asked myself what makes me unique.
I’m nowhere near done with this process; even the fashion gurus say finding your own style takes time. But I did gather a nice assortment of summer shoes that I’m happy with so far! Here’s the lineup:
Navy Print Keds: SO unbelievably cute, casual, and COMFORTABLE. These will go with just about anything in your wardrobe. And you don’t even have to wear socks, for crying out loud (as long as you’ve got foot powder)! ¬†I like them so much because I can take the dog for a walk and my feet¬†still feel adorable.

Vintage Cowboy Boots: These warm my heart because they were purchased at a local music store next to a bar that I used to play music at frequently. There’s nothing like a pair of cowboy boots to hold all of those Kentucky memories of summer nights in the dive bar with no A/C, sharing crappy beer and original songs!

Kitten Heels: Sometimes you find the best things when you’re not looking. These sexy kitten heels peeked out at me from the size 10s and 11 section (I wear a size 7 1/2 or 8!). Somehow they got misplaced and how on earth I was able to spot the tiny size 8 tag I will never know. I guess their magnetism¬†just drew me to them!

Green Goddess Sandals: Ha, well that’s what I call them. They¬†represent everything about me that’s ME. They aren’t really trendy at all. They’re well worn (bought from a local used clothing store). They are bright green (one of my favorite colors!). And most of all, my feet feel good¬†in them. I especially love that they add¬†a little pop of color and make a basic outfit chic!

Jewel Encrusted Sandals: I have had my eye on this style for years…it started when I read about them in a Paris Street Style book. Mystical as they were, to wear anything with gems, sparkles, or jewels felt foreign to me. Could I pull it off? Now I realize it’s less about ‘pulling it off’ and more about having fun. Go ahead and feel fancy from time to time – we all deserve that! FYI, you’ll be delighted to know that they did not cost a fortune – these babies were thrifted for six bucks!

Thanks so much for reading. Click¬†here¬†for¬†a lil’ freebie (it was a grad school project that involves fashion and I now give it away on my site). Cheers!

If The Shoe Fits – Carlos Santana Edition

Heyy everyone and TGIF! This issue of If The Shoe Fits is brought to you by my knee high Carlos Santana gladiator sandals! These beauties were a gift from my sister for my twenty-first birthday and it’s safe to say it was one of the best presents I’ve received in my life! Take a look at my knee highs and then let’s discuss:

^^^ I LOVE THEM!!!

About a year ago I developed an obsession for wanting a pair of knee high gladiator sandals which probably sprung from a picture in Vogue or somewhere or another. I searched high and low on different websites for the perfect pair but none of them seemed to cut it – they all looked so cheap and costume-y. Finally in my quest for the sandals I stumbled upon a lovely pair on http://www.shoedazzle.com but the shoes I lusted after so much were sold out! I was heart broken. After that experience last year I had given up on my dream of being a proud owner of knee high gladiators. Usually I’m never one to throw in the towel when I want something but finding a pair worthy of my ownership seemed impossible after my shoedazzle catastrophe. Luckily, on my twenty-first the impossible became a tangible reality thanks to my big sis!

Two days before my birthday outing, my sister Kristen and I were browsing around at the mall. As we aimlessly window shopped we passed by a Journey’s and a pair of mid calf gladiators caught my eye. I walked into the store and pointed them out to my sister and she immediately made her classic sour face and said “those are ugly…but do you like them in black or brown?” At that point I had a sinking suspicion that new sandals were on the horizon for me for my birthday and I could barely contain my excitement!! I begged my sister to tell me what she got for me but she wouldn’t budge! I kept flip flopping in my mind of what my gift was because I hadn’t mentioned my desire for knee high gladiators in a long time. It was very possible that she didn’t know that I still wanted a pair desperately. No matter what my gift was the anticipation was killing me!!!

Finally, on the night of my birthday get together my sister presented me with a HUGE red box with a pretty gold paisley pattern on it. Could it be? The sandals that I’ve yearned for for SO long? I pulled off the lid of the box and there they were in all of their glory! They were simply gorgeous and I couldn’t wait until I got home to try them on so I took my shoes off in the middle of Olive Garden and slipped them on…The Carlos Santana’s fit like a glove and they are light years better than the pair that I wanted to order off of shoedazzle. These gladiators are edgy, cool, and exactly what I wanted. Kristen seriously hit the nail right on the head with this gift!

I’ve enjoyed wearing my gladiators so much this summer! I love pairing them with shorts, body con skirts, and sweet floral dresses. Every time I wear them when I’m out and about I get too many compliments on them to count and I love being able to say, “Thank you! My sister got them for me!”. My Carlos Santana knee high gladiator sandals are the perfect edition to my summer wardrobe and I can’t wait to wear them for many years to come. I adore them for their fashion value but I love them even more because my sister got them for me. Best. Gift. EVER!

So there you have it, the latest edition of If The Shoe Fits – Carlos Santana style! I hope that all of you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did writing it! Now I need your help on deciding what shoe to write about next. Your choices are between Vince Camuto pointed toe ankle booties, army green Guess summer wedges, or Calico primary color kitten heels. I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
