The Best Dress OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This look is the second one that I shot all by myself on my tripod. I had every intention of doing some shooting outside, then I walked outside, froze my buns off, and promptly returned into my apartment cocoon lol. As I scoured chez moi for a Plan B, I decided to make use of Johnny’s guitar corner to show off one of my favorite dresses. This was a bit of a process because the lighting did not want to behave whatsoever so I was making adjustments here there and everywhere. I did end up with a few good shots, though! Check it out:

Dress: BCBG, TJMaxx

Word Bubble Heels: LFL, TJMaxx

As you can see, there really wasn’t much to this OOTD but I still think it packs a punch! I fell in love with this dress by BCBG as soon as I saw it during an online shopping stint with TJMaxx. I didn’t think I could possibly love it more until I tried it on! Once I looked in the mirror, this little number skyrocketed to one of my all time favorites because it is so different than anything else I own and the concern I did have went right out the window. As a girl with a bigger chest, I was worried that the black cutout portion of the dress would be “too much” and that’s something that definitely makes me feel uncomfortable. However, the funky 70’s print button down part of the dress balanced it out. Instead of having the key focal point be smack dab on my chest, there was a surprise pattern and it allowed the eyes to dance rather than settle.

In conclusion, this dress is perfect lol. I am genuinely enamored by the button down pattern and would so love to have it in a dress or shirt too. Not to mention how striking of an hourglass silhouette it creates. Can you say va va voom?! This dress makes me feel so confident and when you have something on that makes you feel that good, you really don’t need anything else. So, I popped on a pair of super fun word bubble heels by Lust For Life, a dangly pair of cross earrings, and was ready to model in front of a bunch of instruments that I have no idea how to play!

The Best Dress, indeed! Peep my TikTok (lilred6794) for more from this look and stay tuned for the Blooper Reel too! ❤

Do you have an outfit that makes you feel really confident? What is it like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fun & Games: Horrified – World Of Monsters Edition

Fun & Games: Horrified – World Of Monsters Edition

Hello! Johnny and I love playing board games together and one of our favorites is, hands down, Horrified. In this co-op game, your mission is to work as a team and save a village from classic horror movie monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein and his Bride, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Each monster has its own unique way of being defeated with tasks you must complete and all the while, you have to protect yourself, teammates, and villagers on the board. It is so much fun!!

We have gotten great use out of Horrified and Johnny and I always hoped they would make a new board with new monsters. You could imagine our surprise when we found out there was three! In addition to the original, there is a board for American Monsters, Greek Monsters, and World of Monsters. This past weekend, we made a Target Run to see if they had any of these new boards available. They had World of Monsters and we played it as soon as we got home. We had an absolute blast!

The premise of World of Monsters is the exact same as the original Horrified but with brand new heroes, monsters, villagers, items, action cards, and objectives. In World of Monsters, you can go toe to toe with the Sphinx, Yeti, Jiangshi, and Cthulhu. As per the game’s recommendation, we battled the Sphinx and Yeti first to get a feel for the board. Johnny played as the Buccaneer and I chose the Parapsychologist. Both of these heroes worked really well together and we were able to utilize their strengths for optimal results because we reigned victorious. Granted, our Life Counter was getting down to the wire but we still won so who cares lol.

Despite the fact that the way you play the other Horrified games doesn’t change, World of Monsters still felt so fresh and new. It was exciting to see everything the new board had to offer and it looked amazing too! If you are as big of fans of the first game as Johnny and I am, then this is a must buy. We plan on getting the other two boards as well and I have a feeling we are going to be playing a lot. I am SO not mad about this and would love to pencil in a game if we are both up for it after work instead of retiring to the couch. These new boards are what we have been waiting for and, as great as the original is, it’s going to make returning to it after playing something different even better!

Horrified is an easy to learn, fast, total blast of a game and I cannot recommend World of Monsters enough. And I cannot wait to play more!!

What is your favorite board game? Have you played Horrified before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Vegetarian Friendly Ramen

Vegetarian Friendly Ramen

Howdy!! I have been a vegetarian for as long as I can remember and I will forever be checking the labels of food at the store/where the food is prepared in restaurants. I refuse to let my streak be broken and that often means not getting the things that I would like to try. Soup is a shining example of this because a majority of what you’re buying in store is made with some type of meat based broth. Another food that has fairly limited options is ramen. There’s a million noodle packs for carnivores and one or two for vegetarians!

I have tried a handful of quick to go vegetarian ramen and none of them have ever done much for me. However, I have had a lot of luck in finding my favorite kind during my past few grocery trips. This specific kind of ramen isn’t always available so I get a ton when it is for a speedy and cheap meal. If you are forever on the hunt for a good vegetarian ramen, I can’t recommend this kind enough:

A little sweet, a little spicy, and a little over a dollar – this Sweet Chili ramen is the bomb.com ! It is bold, flavorful, and filling and I actually just had a cup prior to writing this lol. What can I say, I decided to switch my breakfast up from my recent avocado toast kick! It might not seem like much, but it really is a beautiful thing when you can find a food that you like that adheres to your dietary restrictions. In cases like this, it’s like finding the holy grail and you are in for a treat if you try it too. It is SO. Freaking. Yummy!!

The Chili Lime ramen has become my foolproof option and it is easily the best out of every kind I have tried before. 12/10!

What are some of your favorite vegetarian options at the grocery store? Do you have a favorite meatless brand? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Clinical Works Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer Review

Clinical Works Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer Review

Howdy! I absolutely love to shop for skin care at TJMaxx and am always eager to try new brands and products. Whether they are a hit or miss, it’s just nice to try something new and review them. Typically, I have a lot of luck with my selections and am fine with the periodic “good but not great” product. However, I have been really striking out with moisturizers as of late. The ones that I have completed recently literally did nothing for me, which is a bummer because I revel in a good moisturizer! I was expecting a repeat of the “meh” sentiment when I started this Hyaluronic Acid moisturizer by Clinical Works. It turns out that my luck has turned because it is the BEST! Let’s discuss:

Before talking about the product itself, let’s talk price. This is a highly important factor in what I pick out and I simply refuse to spend more than seven dollars on skin care at TJs. I couldn’t believe that this HUGE jar of moisturizer was only five dolla holla and I am not even close to halfway done after a month of twice daily use. Talk about a bang for your buck and my deepest regret is that I didn’t buy the lot that they had available during that haul. Hindsight, as always, is 20/20.

When it comes to moisturizers, my preference is something nice and light with a gel texture. The Hyaluronic Acid moisturizer by Clinical Works lies somewhere between a true cream and a gel moisturizer and it feels as light as air when applied. It absorbs rapidly and it’s easy to forget that I even put it on in the first place. My skin feels so soft with each use and I love the way it looks too. It is dewy, radiant, and glowing. All of this from barely a quarter sized dollop for full coverage on my face and neck. I cannot recommend it enough!

I am going to be SO sad when I finish my jar of Clinical Works moisturizer and will be keeping my eyes peeled for more. Fingers crossed!

What is your favorite moisturizer? Where do you shop for your skin care? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Just Something Silly

Just Something Silly

Hello! Johnny and I live right down the street from a Circle K and it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Whether I am in desperate need of a Diet Coke, we’d love a snack, or a refreshing White Claw after work, we frequent our go to gas station several times per week. Because of our high return rate, we have a very friendly relationship with all of the employees and it is always nice to pop in and exchange pleasantries. In fact, sometimes Johnny plays music with one of the guys who works there. What can I say, Circle K is a community!

This past Sunday, we needed a new lighter and, of course, a Diet Coke for me so Johnny made a quick Circle K stop. He told one of our favorite employees who calls him “rock star” every time she sees him (So cute!) to surprise him with whatever lighter she wants – as long as it was a fun one. When he returned home, he showed me her selection and we had to laugh because it was the most random choice ever lol:

I honestly have no idea why this is the lighter our fave employee handed Johnny, but I am SO glad she did. Maybe it reminded her of me and Johnny as a couple if we lived on a farm and weren’t emo AF, maybe she just liked it. Regardless of why, I can’t help but have a chuckle every time I see it sitting on our coffee table. It really is the little things in life and we have vowed to have her pick our lighters since this fateful Circle K run. I genuinely cannot wait to see what we get next!

Whether it’s your favorite store, restaurant, or gas station, I truly believe it’s a special thing to go somewhere where everyone knows you and you know them. Our Circle K is that place for us and we wouldn’t have it any other way! ❤

What store do you frequent regularly? What is your favorite snack to grab from the gas station? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: Preacher Book One By Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! For my Christmas gift this year, I treated myself to the entire collection of one of my favorite graphic novel series called Preacher by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. After a stint of reading The Housemaid series, I finally was able to crack open Book One of Preacher and devoured it. I didn’t think it was possible, but it was even better than I remembered! Before we discuss Book One in a spoiler free setting, as always, I will be placing a big fat trigger warning on this graphic novel. It features graphic language, graphic violence, and highly disturbing content. It is not a read for the faint of heart! Now, let’s get to it:

God quit. He has left heaven and is nowhere to be found. In his absence, a creation called Genesis has broken free. Genesis is the child of an angel and demon, harnessing power and knowledge greater than god almighty. What Genesis needs is a human host and it is found in Reverend Jesse Custer. What heaven needs is to get Genesis back and the angels call upon the Saint of Killers to take care of whomever Genesis embedded himself in. During Jesse’s service at a small church in Texas, Genesis enters his body and creates an inferno that kills the entire congregation.

While all of that is going on, we meet Tulip who just so happens to be Jesse’s ex-girlfriend. She is in BIG trouble and needs to make a quick getaway. She hops in the car of a stranger named Cassidy and they hit the road. As they travel to anywhere but here, they see the aftermath of the explosion at Jesse’s church. As Tulip investigates the scene, she reunites with her long ago love. Just in time for the police to show up. Jesse, Tulip, and the elusive Cassidy are fully surrounded by heavy artillery. Then, as Genesis, Jesse speaks. He tells the cops to drop their guns and, amazingly, they do so. After the promise of certain death is eliminated, they get in Cassidy’s car and leave.

In a small diner, the newly formed crew evaluates how they ended up in this situation and what to do about it next. Not only do they have the cops to worry about, but the Saint of Killers is on their tail too and his bullets do not miss. Of course, Tulip would love to know why Jesse left her high and dry years ago but that is a conversation for another time. Right now, all Jesse wants to do is find god. But where does one look for god? Cassidy knows someone who might be able to assist in the search so their next destination is the Big Apple.

Rather than get any answers, Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip find themselves in the grasp of a twisted serial killer. Jesse and Tulip closely escape and Cassidy ends up in a morgue. Until he wakes up, bums a cigarette from an employee, and decides to hit the road solo. After Cassidy makes his leave, the former lovers, Jesse and Tulip, are all alone. They quickly pick up where they left off after an abrupt end to their relationship, but Tulip still has no idea why it even happened in the first place. She is about to find out.

Jesse’s past is dark and he was raised by a wicked grandmother and her two backwoods cronies. He learned to love the lord through unspeakable abuse and made a vow to never, ever come back after he escaped. Some vows are meant to be broken, however, and said cronies catch up to Jesse and Tulip. They are returned to the place where it all began, Angelville. Jesse’s family knows about Genesis and they know they want that power desperately. They will do anything to keep Jesse and Genesis for themselves and murder is not off the table. Will Jesse and Tulip make it out alive? And where the hell is god, anyways? Read Preacher to find out!

In case you couldn’t tell, Preacher is a WILD ride. Honestly, the above synopsis isn’t even the half of it. Book One has always been my favorite and it sets the stage for the entire collected work so beautifully. Yes, the story is beyond far fetched. Yes, none of this could ever happen in real life. However, if you allow yourself to enter into the world created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, it really does feel real. The trio of Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy are all so likeable in their own right and it’s impossible not to root for them instantly. Because of this, the danger that they are in feels that much more immanent. The twists are shocking and there is a tangible sense of urgency in every panel. Once I started reading, I just couldn’t stop because the last thing you want it for anything bad to happen to our heroes. And, when it does, it feels like a punch in the gut.

Not only does Book One establish the clear divide of “good versus evil” but it also introduces us to a variety of subplots. We get to see the Detectives hunt for Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy. We meet a young, disfigured teen who vows to avenge his father’s death. We are shown settings and people that might not mean anything now, but they certainly will later. The promise of tying these loose ends is intoxicating. There is no rule book for a story line like this and that means it can go where ever the author and artists wants it to. Rest assured, you will never know what happens next in Preacher!

Overall, I am going to rate Book One of Preacher with a ten out of ten stars. From start to finish, this is a masterclass in story telling, artistry, and creating the blind faith in every reader that somehow, things are going to work out. No matter what!

Have you read Preacher before or watched the show? What did you think about it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

All 5 Dances!!!!

All 5 Dances!!!!

Howdy!! Something that Johnny and I take a lot of joy in is getting matching t-shirts with each other, particularly shirts that are worn in TV shows and movies we love. We have Pablo Cruise baseball tees from Step Brothers, a subliminal reference to Flight Of The Conchords, as well as a happy birthday wish from Superstore. Recently, we have been working our way through the show Community for the second time and we just knew that we had to get one of the T-shirts featured on the show. It was a long time coming because I remember saying we needed it the first time we watching Community when we started dating. Our Ts arrived in the mail this week and we are ecstatic:

In case you haven’t seen or heard of it, Community is a comedy that’s set in a community college and has a cast of characters typical to what you would find on a real campus: Senior citizens, high school burnouts, and those with no direction in life whatsoever. As a proud graduate from Cuyahoga Community College, it’s a show that speaks to me because it brings back so many fond memories while I was a student. From Puppy Hour at the library during exam week to one of my fellow interns that would dip out on every shift to play Pokemon Go, it was such a fun world to be a part of. I honestly never knew what a day on campus was going to be like and it was exciting.

Anywho, the school in Community is called Greendale and every year they host five dances. Should you attend every dance throughout the year, you get rewarded with a T-shirt that says “All 5 Dances”. This shirt follows what Johnny and I like to the T: A phrase that is meaningless unless you are in on the joke too. In all of our years of matching together, literally no one has recognized any of our shirts and that’s okay because it’s still hilarious to us! All 5 Dances is the perfect addition to our matching apparel and I can’t wait to step out together in them. 😀

I know exactly what shirt we’re going to match with each other next. If you’re familiar with the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle Running Man, then stay tuned lol.

Do you have any matching clothes with your SO? Do you have any TV show T-shirts? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Best Husband Ever!

Best Husband Ever!

Hello!! My love for Diet Coke knows no bounds. It is the air that I breathe, the water I drink, and the food that nourishes me. Okay, I guess I wouldn’t go that far. Just kidding I totally would – it’s the best! Whenever Johnny goes to the gas station over the weekend, I always ask him to pick me up a bottle of DC. Normally, he is pretty good about it. However, he completely forgot the past THREE times during his errands. It was nothing short of devastating to see him return home empty handed but he is forever at angel status, albeit a forgetful angel!

This past weekend, Johnny went to the store and as per usual, I asked him for my usual. Honestly, I was fully expecting him to forget my Diet Coke again and that would have been fine. At this point, it had become a running joke. So, you could imagine my surprise when Johnny came rolling into the apartment with not just one bottle of DC but a six pack! He told me he was paying back for his indiscretion with interest and it was seriously so sweet. Not only did he remember, but he surprised me with something even better and I was smiling about it all weekend long. It truly does not take much and he is simply the best. ❤

Ladies Lunch

Ladies Lunch

Hello!! I decided to actually make New Year’s Resolutions this year and I am pleased to report that I have been crushing. So much so, in fact, that I even added a new goal to achieve. My primary focuses are to continue going to the gym, firmly saying “no”, making more time for friends, and taking better care of my teeth. Every weekend since, I have had some type of outing with friends or family and I really do feel better for it. With a crazy demanding work schedule, it almost seemed impossible to make time for fun over the weekend because I was too dog tired. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still tired lol but now I feel like my weekends are a source of pleasure rather than counting down the minutes to my next shift.

This past weekend, my outing was to take my sister, Kristen, and three sweet nieces out for lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Meson. It is the absolute best and a staple in my neck of the woods. I am always craving El Meson but the hankering was especially fierce as the Mexican restaurant we went to as a family for Christmas did nothing for me. So, I invited my girl squad to a “vanity lunch” so I could squash my cravings and get some quality time in with my four best girls.

Like myself, my girls live for Mexican food so our lunch was the perfect set up to eat, drink, and be merry – and did we ever! My eldest nieces went to town on queso and rice while Kristen and I opted for our usual vegetarian platters. We even toasted with her first drink since having my littlest niece in November and the Margaritas treated us just right! They always do, as did our favorite server who takes care of us every single time we have a lunch or dinner date. Dining at El Meson is forever fantastic, but he makes it that much better.

During the entirety of our Ladies Lunch, I couldn’t stop thinking about how lucky I was. This was my second weekend in a row that I got to spend time with the bestie squad! Prior to making my New Year’s Resolution, I honestly couldn’t tell you if I would have been up to those outings. And, I’m not going to lie, it is taking effort on my part to get myself out the door. However, once the plans are in action, it’s nonstop fun and that is exactly what I need. I even went out to lunch with a friend during my break on Tuesday!! Who am I and where is the normal, never does anything Lil Red?!

Ladies Lunch was a great success and I can’t wait to keep adding more plans to my agenda. It is making my life feel much more full and I am loving it!

What is your favorite local restaurant? What is your favorite kind of outing with friends? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Malfoy Manor Lego Build Pt. 1

Malfoy Manor Lego Build Pt. 1

Hello! This past Friday, Johnny and I made a Target Run to spend a Christmas gift card. As soon as we received it, I know for a fact that we both mentally thought that we could buy a new Lego set with it. So we did! The pickings were slim, but that was okay because we ended up with one that we are both very happy with: Malfoy Manor from the Harry Potter collection. Once we returned home with our purchase, we got to work and spent the evening getting our Lego Masters on. We completed half of the set and it looks fantastic so far! Check it out:

IMG_2401IMG_2406IMG_2407IMG_2403IMG_2412IMG_2409IMG_2414IMG_2410IMG_2413IMG_2429IMG_2417IMG_2422IMG_2426IMG_2420

Although there were quite a few Lego sets that caught our eye, Malfoy Manor definitely spoke to us the most. Even on the box, it just looked spooky and you know we are both all about that! I admit, it is always slightly overwhelming to start a new Lego set because it feels like there is SO much to do. But, as soon as we ripped the first bag open, we were in the zone and laying down bricks like a fine tuned machine. This is what I love about Lego because, for me, it goes from “how are we going to do this?” to not being able to build fast enough!

As it has been a while since Johnny and I built Lego together, the beginning of this build was already an especially fun one. Then, we really started getting going and found so much delight in all of the neat surprises. We loved the gargoyles, birds, toilet (lol), and copious amounts of snakes. It would not be the Malfoy Manor without them! You might notice that there are tons of NPUs (Nice Parts Usage) scattered throughout the build and it’s such a cool thing to see how these seemingly random pieces take form. We really do revel in it.

We spent a good two hours on the first portion of Malfoy Manor and it couldn’t have ended on a better note (As seen in the very last picture). When we began building the Dark Mark imprinted on the ground, we had no idea what it was going to be. We both assumed it was going to be a snake themed pattern and weren’t thinking about the Dark Mark at all. You could only imagine our surprise when it finally took shape and our minds were blown. Lego is truly just amazing like that and it makes each and every build an absolute joy.

I am so eager to finish our Malfoy Manor build this weekend so I can show all of you the end result. I can’t wait to see what other surprises this set holds!

Do you build Lego often? What is your favorite set? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
