You’re Never Too Old!

Hello!! As you all know, I am a HUGE lover of body modifications, fun hair, and fashion. I’m twenty-eight years old and I could never picture looking or dressing any differently than I do. In fact, I truly believe that I will have my five nose piercings in for all eternity and that’s fine by me!

When I’m out and about in a killer OOTD or just bumming it while running errands, a comment that I always seem to get is: “I wish I could dress or dye my hair like that but I’m too old.” To which I will always reply: “NO YOU’RE NOT!!” As sweet of a compliment as it is, it makes me sad because I am a firm believer in age being nothing but a number – even though I sometimes internally cry over approaching the big 3-0 *face palm*.

I also think that life is too short to be anything other than yourself. And if that means getting a tattoo or piercing at fifty or dying your hair pink at ninety, then I say go for it! What is the point in denying yourself something that would make you happy? Answer: There is no point.

During a trip to the zoo a few weekends ago, I wore this outfit:

image_50417409(2)

While exploring the Akron Zoo with my sister and nieces, I ran into one of my friends and her three daughters. The two older of the three told me that they wanted to dress like me when they grow up and it warmed my cold, bitter heart. They also said that they never see adults who look like me and it’s cool.

I asked how old they thought I was because sometimes I have a hard time believing I’m an adult lol and one of them replied with “I don’t know… nineteen?” At this point, I thought my heart was going to explode and their minds were blown when I told them how old I am. I enlightened them on my philosophy about always being true to your own personal style and I think that it stuck!

No matter your age, there is nothing wrong with being the best version of yourself. If you are toying with the idea of changing your look up, then this is your sign to do it. You can thank me by telling me all about your transformation! ❤

What do you love about yourself? Do you have any plans for new hair, tattoos, etc? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Revamp Your Yard For Spooky Season

Standard
Revamp Your Yard For Spooky Season

Spooky season is in full swing and what better way to pay homage to the best time of the year than in your own yard?! Sure, your house might be full of Halloween decor like mine but the outside is just as important to set all of the vibes come trick-or-treat night. At least, I sure think so, especially because I so wish that I had a yard to decorate! Let’s look at some fun projects to revamp your yard just in time for Halloween:

Decor Galore:

How cool would it be to have a front yard filled with twinkling orange lights, fake bats hanging from the trees, and zombies poking up from the ground? While you don’t have to go crazy with giant inflatables or twenty foot skeletons, a little decor goes a long way. Fake cobwebs, home made jack-o-lanterns, and makeshift ghosts in the trees works just as well!

Better yet, so many of the DIY aspects of Halloween decorating can be done as a family. You could make a bunch of creepy spiders by tracing your hands on cardboard or silly ghosts by sticking your feet in some paint. And, of course, there’s nothing better than a pumpkin carving night while watching all of your favorite scary flicks.

Autumnal Landscaping:

Mum is the word and you can purchase tons of glorious flowers to add some colorful cheer during the day. This is also another great activity to do as a family, perhaps by making a trip to your local pumpkin patch for some potted flowers? What’s more, you could paint jack-o-lantern faces on them for all of the fun of pumpkin carving without the pulpy mess!

Don’t forget to make the most of all of the fallen leaves adorning your yard too. They could easily be turned into garlands to hang around your door or porch railing. Add some fake cobwebs and you can’t go wrong. If you aren’t keen on raking or crafting with leaves, learn more about how a local landscaping service can assist. Then have a leaf jumping competition with the freshly raked piles and warm up with some hot chocolate afterwards.

If you’re crunched for time or have no green thumb to be found (And, no, Frankenstein green paint on your hands doesn’t count!), then you could hire a reliable landscaping company that delivers great results. You can even consult with them to turn your yard into the ultimate autumn oasis.

Trick-Or-Treat Tips:

Arguably one of the most fun parts of Halloween is seeing all of the adorable costumes come trick-or-treat night. Rather than answering a ringing doorbell all evening, how about setting up shop outside? My husband and I plan on doing this in my parent’s neighborhood! We will have a crackling fire and the Monster Mash playing on repeat, obviously.

You don’t have to stop there, though! You could host a neighborhood costume contest or set up a scavenger hunt in your freshly decorated yard. Expertly placed pine cones, mini pumpkins, and fake spiders could all be things to find. The prize? Extra candy! If you don’t have a fire pit, be sure to place lots of twinkling or floodlights around your property so everyone can find their way!

One of my favorite things about spooky season is all of the great outdoor decorations. Turn your yard into one that would make me stop and stare and have the best time!

Bath & Body Works Mini Haul

Bath & Body Works Mini Haul

Hello! I had a couple of free coupons to cash in at Bath & Body Works and they couldn’t have come at a better time. My lotion supply in the stock pile has been running low and you can also never have too much shower gel! Because of my fear that I would be rang up by an employee who followed the “limit one free coupon per day” rule, I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to buy two more wallflowers too. *Spoiler alert* the cashier didn’t care lol and I got all of the following for six bucks:

image_50444801(3)

A little fun fact about me is that I don’t really like birthday cake (It’s a texture thing) but I LOVE birthday cake ice cream and anything scented like it. I had never seen the Happy Birthday scent at Bath & Body Works before and was all over it like bees to honey. The scent description is “frosted vanilla” and it most certainly is! It smells just like a freshly made rich vanilla cake and I’ve already taken fifty plus whiffs of it while writing this. I am SO happy that I was able to get both the lotion and shower gel for free so if you catch scent of a freshly made pastry while out and about, it’s probably just me. 😀

As you all know, prior to purchasing my Halloween themed wallflower holders from B&BW, I was very much against buying them. This wasn’t because I didn’t like the idea of the product itself because I did. It was more of the fact that I would like them too much and it would just be another item that I’d have to keep up with buying. However, here we are now six wallflowers in and I ain’t mad about it. They are an absolute delight!

Johnny and I are currently using the Wild Berry Tea Spritzer and Honey Crisp Apple wallflowers. As expected, my favorite scent of apple is divine but we both can hardly smell the tea spritzer. I would have bought another Honey Crisp Apple if it was available but, alas, it wasn’t so I settled for Mahogany Apple, instead. There wasn’t a tester open of this scent so I’m not sure what it smells like but I’m hoping that the woodsy fragrances won’t overpower the apple. We’ll find out soon enough.

Since the tea spritzer wallflower was a bust, I decided to go with something that I knew I would enjoy and that is Gingham Love. I am obsessed with the Gingham line and when they added Love I almost lost my shit – it was my favorite scent this summer! With all of the original crispness of Gingham and juicy berries thrown in for good measure, Gingham Love is the sequel scent that I didn’t know I needed. It is the perfect summer in fall fragrance and I can’t wait to use the wallflower!

You just can’t beat six dollars for four products and I am thrilled with this B&BW Mini Haul. Is it bad that I’m already daydreaming about their holiday scents?!

What is your favorite Bath & Body Works scent? What is your favorite B&BW fragrance season? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

A Day At The Zoo OOTD

Hello!! Last weekend, I was surprised with a text from my sister asking if I’d like to join her and my nieces at the Akron Zoo. Spending time with Kristen, Val Gal, and Raya is the absolute best so I jumped at the opportunity. It was also free admission for Community Day and you can’t beat that! We had a wonderful afternoon exploring the zoo and I had a blast spoiling my best girls with lots of treats. Of course, I couldn’t step out without showing out so I put together this little OOTD:

image_50417409(2)image_50404353(1)image_50435585(1)image_50453505(2)image_50426369(2)image_50443265(3)

Who? What? Wear?

My sister and nieces always look darling so ol’ TT had to match their energy! I purchased the Sincerely Jules vest during my last TJMaxx haul and had been dying to break it out. I think that it is such a fun and unique piece and is perfect for some fall outings. When I am building outfits, I tend to select one focal point item and continue on from there. Once you have a staple picked out, it is much easier to style a look around it, which was definitely the case with my vest.

For this OOTD, I chose to keep the color palette minimal with surprise pops of color, which I thought added a cool retro touch to the vest. Originally, I had my New Moon, Who Dis? T-shirt dress on under the vest but I was afraid that it might be too cold for bare arms. To rectify this, I simply added my Shrinking Violet sweater on underneath the dress and I am glad that I did – it was a beautiful but very brisk day!

As a side note, remember that when you are layering items, you have to be careful with the fit of the clothes. For example, the T-shirt dress was loose while the sweater was tighter fitting and that made it an ideal layering combination. Two form fitting pieces or two looser ones just doesn’t have the same effect so go for opposites in fit and you will be a layering master.

ANYWHO, with the base of my outfit settled, it was time to accessorize. My vest has a menswear fit and the dress didn’t offer a distinct shape so the obvious choice was to add a belt. Surprisingly, I only have one belt in my clothing collection and it worked just fine. The quirky apple clasp is so cheeky and cute while, most importantly, accentuating my waistline.

Tights were also a must and I went with my favorite Urban Outfitters fishnets. These gemstone tights are simply the best and I get compliments on them whenever I wear them. I also liked that they showed a bit of skin since the rest of my body was covered up. To continue with the embellished theme, I chose my Chase + Chloe loafers. The jewels on the tights flowed seamlessly into the studs and spikes on the shoes while also enhancing a more color blocked look.

I haven’t received so many compliments on an outfit in a while and your girl was feeling her damn self. As a whole, this OOTD is bold and screams “look at me”. But that’s not all there is to it. The closer you look, the more you see all of the unique touches that are essential to my personal style. From the corset style laces at the bottom of the dress to being able to see my tattoos through the fishnets, there was visual interest everywhere. Remember, you always want to make the eyes of whomever is looking at you dance and this OOTD achieved that to the T.

My Day At The Zoo was just what I needed to lift my spirits and how could it not? It’s a wonder what good company and good fashion can do for the soul! ❤

How would you describe your personal style? Whose style do you admire? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Mini Halloween Haul

Mini Halloween Haul

Hello! It is spooky season all year long in mine and Johnny’s world and the decor in our apartment reflects this. We love all things horror and true crime and Halloween is the happiest time of the year for us. Now that we are settled comfortably in our new apartment, we really wanted to upgrade our spooky decor since we have so much more additional space.

After a wildly successful haul at Marc’s, a discount store in my neck of the woods, I was itching to go back. I got all kinds of cool Halloween goodies and the best part was seeing the same items I purchased at Walgreen’s for triple the cost. The haul below costed me a whole ten bucks at Marc’s and from the Akron Zoo when I went with my nieces and sister. You can peep the OOTD from our outing tomorrow! Now, let’s take a look-see at my new Halloween treats – no tricks necessary!

image_67170561(1)image_67148289(1)image_67162881image_50443265(2)image_6483441image_6483441(1)

^^^ The little ghost and pumpkin are from the zoo, the rest is from Marc’s.

My Johnny has a huge collection of Halloween themed socks and he actually just bought a ton more from TJMaxx when we went last week. I was so proud! I’d be a liar if I said that I wasn’t a tad jealous so I was so happy to find some socks of my own at Marc’s. They are also the same brand of the Frankenstein socks that Johnny surprised me with last year and that I’m currently wearing right now! While my collection will never achieve Johnny level, it’s a pretty good start. 😀

The skull candles were a whopping two for a dollar and I am obsessed with them. 1) Talk about a STEAL and 2) they will be perfect for our scary movie marathons every weekend! The piece de resistance of my haul, however, is the skeleton hand candle holder. This costed me two dollars and I couldn’t believe my good luck. It reminded me so much of this year’s Bath & Body Works Halloween line and probably would have been selling for twenty or more bucks from there. Talk about an amazing find!

And, finally, who knew you could find some Halloween cuteness at the zoo?! At the Akron Zoo, you have to exit through the gift shop and it’s a total money trap lol. I love spoiling my nieces with a new stuffed animal every time we go, though, so what can ya do except buy a treat for yourself too! Every year, Johnny and I work on instilling a love of Halloween in our oldest niece, Val. It’s definitely working and she picked out the pumpkin for herself. She also plays with the decorations on our spooky shelf whenever she comes over. Proud aunt and uncle alert!! ❤

Not bad for a ten dollar haul, right? Mine and Johnny’s apartment is filling up nicely with Halloween decor and it is what we have always wanted. A local discount store with the coolest spooky treats is really helping the cause!

What is your favorite discount store? Do you have your Halloween decorations out yet? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

September 2022 Finishes

September 2022 Finishes

Hello everyone!! It’s the end of the month and you all know what that means… It’s time to discuss all of the beauty products that I finished up! September was a wildly successful month for empties and I used up lots of products that I would happily use again. One serum in particular really blew my mind and I NEED more. Today, we’ll be talking about the new to me finishes so you can peep previous reviews in other posts. Now, let’s get to it:

image_50734081

Would I Use Again?

Why/Why Not?

Pearlessence Serum: I decided to take a break from Vitamin C serums for a spell and moved onto my current obsession of hyaluronic acid. When I saw the Dewy Glow serum at TJMaxx during a previous haul, I couldn’t not try it and I was in love with the very pleasing color of the bottle lol. I am SO glad that I did because this serum is AMAZING! It promised a “dewy glow” and it delivered a thousandfold. After just one use, I was blown away by how fresh my skin looked and felt and it stayed that way all day. After the month it took me to finish it, my skin looked brighter and felt softer. It also paired so well with the Pearlessence moisturizer that I tried. Highly recommend!

Vital Beauty Eye Gel: The Vital Beauty Cooling Eye Gel was another TJs purchase and it was a great value. It costed about six dollars and it took me roughly four months to finish it with morning and night use. I’m happy that I bought two of them because this product was another winner. A little of it went such a long way and I was so impressed by how untired it made me look. I have been perpetually exhausted for the past month and a half but it definitely didn’t show! The delicate skin around my eyes felt healthy and strong and always looked like I got excellent beauty sleep even though that was far from the case. Loved it!

Pearlessence Gel Moisturizer: As you all know, I freaking love me a gel moisturizer. I think that they are so refreshing and love how quickly it absorbs as well as the non-greasy feeling. The Pearlessence moisturizer was really nice and Johnny liked it too for his chronically dry forehead lol. This product was so light but effective and the double dose of hyaluronic acid from the serum made a noticeable difference. I feel like my skin has never looked better or more perfectly moisturized thanks to this pairing. It took me a month of twice daily use to finish one jar.

As you can see, September was a wonderful month for finishes. I found a new favorite skin care brand and used up products that I have been working on for a while. You can’t beat that and do check out Pearlessence next time you need to restock your skin care… I think you’ll like it!

Which products did you use up this month? What are your thoughts on any of the above products if you have used them? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Summer In Fall OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Summer In Fall OOTD! We are stepping into year eight of lifewithlilred with my goal in mind of lots more OOTDs so I hope that you are all ready for some fashion fun. Today, we are going to take a look at what didn’t make the cut during my last hurrah for summer shoot. Then, it is back to all of the fall fashion! Let’s get to it:

As always, I have no idea what I’m doing

image_50436353(1)

Lol, what a HOOT! There is nothing better than a good ol’ blooper reel to make me laugh and these posts are, honestly, so refreshing to make. After taking pictures with Johnny, it might take me upwards of an hour to sort through the millions of pictures he has snapped. During that time, I am looking for the “perfect” pictures while weeding out the ones that aren’t up to snuff. You know, the ones where the lighting is just right, your face is pretty, body looks awesome, and the outfit shines. It’s enough to drive anyone crazy and it’s easy to start scrutinizing every single shot.

With the bloopers post, it’s so different because my mindset changes drastically. With a snap of the fingers I go from “wow, I’m working it” to “wow, I look terrible… perfect!” And that’s okay! For bloopers, the cringier the better and I have no shame in it. I am a huge believer in being able to poke fun at yourself and showing my entire photo taking process along the way. The good, the bad, and the:

image_50732289

^^^ Lol, had to casually toss this in one more time!

Has anyone had any blooper reel worthy moments lately? What happened? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah!

4 Considerations When Looking After Elderly Parents

Standard
4 Considerations When Looking After Elderly Parents

It can be a difficult task to take care of your retired parents, but with careful planning and execution, it doesn’t have to be. There are four essential things that you need to consider when looking after them: their health, finances, living situation, and their social life. In this blog post, we will go over each of these considerations in detail and provide you with advice on how to manage them best:

Their health:

As your parents age, their health will inevitably decline. It’s important to be proactive about their health and get regular checkups with their doctor. You should also create a list of their medications as well as hospitals and doctors that their insurance covers and keep it in a safe place. In case of an emergency, you or another family member can quickly reference this list and ensure that your parents are getting the care they need. Of course, their needs may change over time, and there may come a time when they are seriously or terminally ill. Should this happen, resources online like Your guide to in-home palliative care can help you be proactive when it comes to managing your parents’ health and needs, whilst still making sure you are caring for yourself.

Their finances:

One of the most challenging conversations with elderly parents is about their financial situation. It can be hard to broach the topic, especially if they are reluctant to discuss it. However, it is vital to be aware of their financial situation for two reasons: 1) you need to know if they can support themselves and 2) you need to be on the lookout for signs of financial elder abuse.

If your parents are struggling financially, they have several options. For example, they may be eligible for government benefits or charity assistance. If they own their home, they may also be able to downsize or take out a reverse mortgage. Unfortunately, as far as financial elder abuse goes, this sadly is an all too real problem and can take form in many ways, so be sure to keep an eye on professionals dealing with your parent’s finances.

Their living situation:

Another important consideration is your parents’ living situation. If they can live independently, that’s great! But if they need some assistance, you’ll need to consider that. If they live in a retirement community, staff who can help with transportation or meals may be there. If they live in their own home, you’ll need to decide if it’s feasible for them to continue doing so. If not, you may need to help them find a new place to live.

Whatever their living situation, you’ll also need to consider how accessible it is. Can they get around safely? Do they have everything they need? Is it safe for them to be there? Speaking of safety, do you recognize the signs and know how to prove nursing home negligence? These are all critical things to consider when looking after your retired parents.

Their social life:

Finally, you’ll need to think about your parents’ social life. As people age, they often become more isolated and lose touch with their friends. Having a good support network and staying connected to the outside world will be especially beneficial to their mental health. There are a few ways you can do this:

  • Encourage them to join social clubs or groups
  • Make sure they see their friends regularly
  • Take them out for outings and activities

These are four essential considerations when looking after your retired parents or loved ones. If you can address these areas, you’ll be doing a great job of taking care of them!

How To Take Control Of Your Career

Standard
How To Take Control Of Your Career

Your career is like a marathon, not a sprint. A successful career requires long-term planning, dedication, and effort. It’s not something that magically happens; you must work for it. Whether you’re just starting out in the world of work or looking for a new challenge, staying on top of your career is essential. With dedication and commitment from you, this could be the catalyst for the next step in your career. This blog post will give you valuable insights into taking control of your career no matter what stage you are at in your professional life:

Determine your career goals and timeline:

Knowing where you want to go in your career and having a deadline for each of these goals is essential. This is the only way to track what you have achieved and where you need to improve. It could be that you want to become a manager by the time you are 30 or maybe you want to start your own business by 40. Whatever your goals are, make sure you have an exact date in your mind when you want to achieve them. You should also keep an eye on the current socio-economic climate, as this can significantly impact your career goals.

Creating goals also means accountability and it can sometimes be difficult for people to follow through with their aspirations. If this is the case for you, you might want to consider trying out Singapore Career Counselling (Or a similar practice in your local area). You will be able to work together to clearly define your goals as well as the steps to achieve them to take your career to the next level.

Don’t be afraid to start from the bottom:

Starting at the bottom is not a bad thing. Many successful people have started at the very bottom of the career ladder. This can be a great way to gain experience, find out what you don’t like doing, and learn from the people around you. Some people call this “getting your spurs,” but it’s a great way to get experience, network, and start working on those career goals. If you’re a graduate and have no relevant experience, don’t worry. You will soon get opportunities to start working in your chosen industry and can use that as a springboard to get yourself to the next level.

While it can feel scary to start something brand new, think of it as the first step of a new adventure. If you have dreams of being a pilot, think of researching different flight schools like Nationwide Aviation (or a similar one in your local area) as your first step to soaring in the clouds. Pace yourself with what feels comfortable to you. This could be taking baby steps or throwing yourself into the process whole hog. When you end up with your dream job, you will be so happy you pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone.

Network, network, network:

Getting out of your comfort zone and meeting new people at social events, conferences, or online will be hugely beneficial. It will help you to progress your career by:

Learning about new opportunities: You never know where or when you might find an opportunity to move your career forward. Being out there and meeting people like Michael Fraas Professor from different industries makes you more likely to come across these opportunities.

Making connections: By building your network, you increase the chance of getting a recommendation or making a connection that can help you progress in your career. Search often for expos, conferences, and learning opportunities within a travel distance you feel comfortable with. For example, Channel Partner hosts conferences about the AI revolution and offers online learning too. You never know who you will meet by attending just one networking event.

Finding mentors: Having someone to turn to for advice and guidance can be invaluable when starting out. Mentors can help you learn what you need to do to move your career forward and will be a wealth of knowledge and advice.

Finding agents: If you are striving for a career in the creative field, you will surely want to connect with an agency that specializes in artist representation. Of course, you can fill our applications online but there is nothing better than meeting in real life. Immerse yourself in the world you want to be in by attending plays, galleries, fashion shows, and workshops. You never know who is going to be there and these events give you the opportunity to meet someone who could give you your big break.

Don’t stop learning:

To progress in your career, you need to keep learning. Knowledge is power, whether through a training course or by reading up on new skills. You must keep learning and improving your skills because of the ever-changing work landscape. Some skills will be more relevant than others in the future, so keeping up to date with the latest developments and trends is a must. This will help you secure a job and show future employers that you are an asset to the company.

There is no correct way to succeed in your career. Your path may look different than your friends and colleagues, but that doesn’t mean it is the wrong path. The most important thing is to stay focused and dedicated. Keep your eyes on the prize and work hard!
