Marvelous Maxi Dress OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Marvelous Maxi Dress OOTD! Since starting my TikTok, I have had a crash course in the art of using the tripod. Mine is, admittedly, not the best and is pretty rickety. However, practice really does make perfect and I have noticed a huge improvement after shooting at least two outfits per week. Despite all of the time and effort, there are some things that I can’t improve no matter how hard I try – the weather! And let me tell you, the sky was angry the day I shot this OOTD. It was windy AF and made for countless moments like this lol:

^^^ Just a little taste of what you’ll find on my TikTok! 😀

Now, where was I? Ah, yes. The sky was angry that day, my friends. You can literally hear the wind howling! At one point, this was excellent. As I pretended to model, I was having full fledged wind in the hair moments and I was living for it! I flipped my new hair this way and that and you know your girl was feeling her damn self. I was well aware of my tripod being slightly tipsy (Too many mimosas before a morning OOTD shoot, perhaps?), but like the throwback toy – Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down. The ol’ tripod held on for dear life until it came toppling down with a resounding thud.

Blessedly, this whoopsy was no harm no foul to my phone and I assumed the position to shoot at least one decent video. And then the tipsy tripod continued to fall again, and again…. and you guessed it – AGAIN. I kid you not, this must have happened between five to seven times and I was getting irate at this point lol. Back when I first started shooting with my tripod, there always came a time when I just threw my hands up and called it a wrap because frustrated. This feeling came back tenfold every time I heard the thud of the tripod fall but, hey, it made for some fabulous blooper footage. It wasn’t a complete wash, either, because I still managed to find ONE good take amidst the rubble of tripod falling down videos. The sky may have been angry, but there was definitely a silver lining!

As one of my favorite theater warm up tongue twisters goes: Whether the weather is cold or whether the weather is hot: Whatever the weather we’ll weather the weather, whether we like it or not. I definitely didn’t like it lol but I think I weathered the weather the best I could!

What is springtime weather like in your neck of the woods? Have any spring flowers bloomed in your yard? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Floral Flounce OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Floral Flounce OOTD! I have had a bit of extra free time on my hands (I will explain eventually!) and want to make the most of it. This has involved a lot of housework and shooting a lot of content. I even made a TikTok and you can follow me at lilred6794 !! The OOTDs that I have created this past week have all been shot using a tripod. It is a process that I have been getting used to and it can be quite time consuming. Normally, I am done in five minutes when my blog husband takes my pictures! Despite being slightly annoying, it is fun to try something new and, of course, check out some yikes shots:

The Floral Flounce OOTD was the very first look I shot on a tripod in years. I think I might have done one or two tripod shoots a few summers ago when Johnny was out but you get the point. All I know, is that my conclusion after those shoots was that it sucked and that Johnny would take my pictures for forever lol. In the bloopers above, you can definitely see my frustration with the tripod process because it was annoying. That’s the only word I have for it: Annoying. Put the timer on the camera, run into place, strike a pose, evaluate the picture, rinse, repeat. And repeat, and repeat, and repeat. I must have done that at least fifty times and I was just done at the end of it.

But, you know what? It got easier! Since the Floral Flounce OOTD, I have shot two new looks with the tripod (Peep those soon!). The second outfit was still a learning process. However, I was ON FIRE with the third look. I hate to toot my own horn but toot toot! I had a plethora of shots to choose from in under ten minutes, I was able to place the tripod in the best position on the second or third try, and only had a few lighting issues to tend to. Not bad at all considering it took me a good half an hour to shoot the Floral Flounce fit. In fact, after my successful third tripod attempt, I found myself wishing that I had brought more outfits to shoot!

The moral of the story? Try and try again. I am stepping outside of my content comfort zone. The tripod experience is brand new to me and my own TikTok is something I never thought I would make. I’m having fun, though, and am proud that I decided to blaze a new trail instead of thinking of reasons not to!

Have you tried something new recently? How did it go? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Here (Sort Of) Comes The Sun OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Here (Sort Of) Comes The Sun OOTD! Although, I will correct myself right there because the bloopers from this shoot aren’t all that bad and, no, I’m not just flattering myself lol. For the first time in the almost four years that Johnny and I have been together, I had to take pictures using a tripod because he wasn’t feeling well. There were some definite pros and cons to this method, one of the pros being that I could actually see how I looked when I was taking each picture! Let’s discuss further:

Pro:

I could have a go at new faces that I might not necessarily try during my rapid fire shoots with Johnny. They didn’t turn out picture perfect, but that’s nothing a little practicing in the mirror can’t solve!

Con:

The tripod is not as tall as Johnny so trying to find just the right position for my body in relation to the camera was a bit difficult. Sometimes I had a peahead, other times I looked way bigger than I actually am, and it would take me a minute to find the position again after getting it just right.

Pro:

It was somewhat rewarding to take these pictures by myself. I also was able to give myself less work in terms of scrutinizing each pic afterwards because I could see what I was doing! When Johnny takes my pictures, I just hope for the best and see what comes out of it once we’re done.

Con:

One of the HUGE cons of taking pictures with a tripod is the constant back and forth. Set the ten second timer, run back into position, hope I ended up back where I was standing before, figure out a pose and face, take the picture, rinse, repeat. I was seriously sweating by the time I was done and this was a major turn off for me for tripod pictures.

Pro:

If my husband photographer is ever under the weather on photo shoot Saturdays, I’ll still be able to create content by myself and that’s great! I depend on these weekly OOTDs to keep my daily writing streak (almost four years!) on lifewithlilred going and that is always a plus.

Con:

Taking pictures with Johnny is so familiar to me. I know how he holds the camera, I know where to stand in relation to him, and I like the way my body looks in the pictures he takes. Tripod shooting will definitely require a lot of practice for optimum success as well as investing in a new one with a bit more height. Honestly, I’d really rather not do either!

Con:

Tripod shooting was time consuming! When I shoot with Johnny, it takes about five minutes. Shooting with the tripod took at least twenty and I didn’t love that.

Will I try using the tripod again in the future? If it calls for it, then yes. However, I much prefer photo shoot Saturdays with my darling blog husband and will continue to call on his point and shoot expertise whenever I can! ❤
