Feeling Flowery OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! I wanted to get one more outfit in before my hair changes again so Johnny and I took pictures this past weekend. And, if the location looks familiar: It should! We went to the same brick wall (That is also a bathroom at a local park lol) featured in my It’s Not Just A Phase OOTD. Hey, you’ve got to work with what you’ve got sometimes! Check it out:

image_50447105(2)image_50397953(4)image_50420737(3)image_50425089(3)image_50416129(4)image_50425857(7)

Who? What? Wear?

I don’t know about all of you but I am So. Freaking. Sick. of dressing for winter. Don’t get me wrong, I love cold weather clothing and accessories. However, I am bored with wearing skinny jeans constantly! I miss skirts and dresses so very much and while I have a passion for fashion, I am just not passionate enough to brave the cold with bare legs lol. It was less than thirty degrees out when we took these pictures and I was freezing my nads off in what I had on!

Winter essentially eliminates your options other than pants and that bores me. Therefore, bold patterns and colors are a must during the cold months to incorporate some excitement back into your fits. Because my pants were already chosen for me thanks to the weather, I decided to go with my Jaase zip up top on top. This little number is an oldie but goodie from TJMaxx and I think it is so cool. The unique shape and puff sleeves paired with the white flowers against a cornflower blue base creates a top that I have never seen anything like before. Granted, it’s definitely not warm enough to be worn on its own but it makes for an amazing option during the spring.

I view patterns as an accessory in themselves and didn’t want to bog down a top as loud as the Jaase one with too many extras. The day of taking these pictures, my hair didn’t want to cooperate at all so a headband was in order. Luckily, I had just the one in mind from Claire’s. The blue of the headband is almost an identical match to the top and I liked the pop of red in the embroidery. The headband also bumped up the back of my hair to add some volume and more visual interest to the look.

For earrings, I chose a pair that Johnny’s mom got me that you can’t see too well. They are a small dangly pair of steel blue rectangles with copper flowers and were right on target with the floral theme that I was working with. Since I already had the headband on, I didn’t want earrings that were too big or blingy and these added a little touch of movement without looking cluttered around my face.

Finally, it was time for shoes and I went with my thigh high boots by Candie’s. These are, quite possibly, one of my favorite boots in my entire collection. They are so sleek and sexy and guarantee mile long legs. They blend in perfectly with my black skinnies to give a boost in height without breaking up the silhouette of the outfit. Since the focal point of this look was the Jaase top, I didn’t want to take away from it with bolder heels so the Candie’s pair was just what I needed to complete the look!

When it comes to adding some spice to outfits during the winter, you need to get creative. You could consider transforming your clothing items into stunning pieces made possible by the art of embroidery. Delicate stitches and intricate designs can elevate the beauty of any attire. From elegant dresses to classic blouses, the possibilities are endless. Imagine a dainty lace collar adorned with blooming flowers or a bold statement jacket embroidered with intricate patterns. Floriani, known for its high-quality embroidery threads, adds a touch of excellence to each stitch, ensuring the final result is nothing short of breathtaking. Embrace the charm of the past while adding a personal touch with the magic of embroidery.

Although this isn’t one of my most exciting looks, I still really like this Feeling Flowery OOTD. Keep it posted for bloopers from this fit as well as new outfits coming soon with brand new hair!

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Mad For Plaid OOTD! As I was uploading all of the images below, I couldn’t help but think of the Mean Girls quote about the Burn Book when one of the Plastics was like “We have pictures of everyone in the school, then we wrote comments”. Lol, I suppose my blooper posts are my own mini Burn Books in a way except I am fine with all of my own comments! Let’s see what I have to say for this batch of yikes shots:

These pictures were taken on mine and Johnny’s dilapidated balcony on New Years Eve. While I did have grand plans for a more elaborate backdrop, it was raining like a mother so we worked with what we had to achieve awesome shots as well as shots where it looked like I just took some shots! Because of the inclement weather, I retired to comfy clothes as soon as we were done with pictures. And, because tired, I think I fell asleep on New Years Eve around nine. What can I say, styling and profiling takes a lot out of me!

My only regret about this outfit is that literally no one but Johnny and my parents saw me in it. However, I was feeling myself for the rest of the entire world so it’s all good. In terms of blogging goals for 2023, I want to continue doing as many OOTD posts as I can so here’s to another year of fun and fashion on lifewithlilred! โค

Mad For Plaid OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! Today, we’re going to take a look at what I was hoping to style when I shot my It’s Not Just A Phase OOTD. At that time, the Anne Klein blazer I’m wearing below was not yet in my wardrobe and the other red plaid blazer I have was way too big. I vowed to one day shoot the plaid tuxedo look I had in mind but I had no idea that that day would come so soon. A few short weeks later, I found the perfect blazer during a TJMaxx shopping trip! Take a look and let’s discuss:

image_50395137(3)image_50425857(6)image_50382849(1)image_50417153(2)image_50416129(3)image_50369793image_50382849(2)

Who? What? Wear?

As I mentioned, I have had the idea for this Mad For Plaid look since November and I was so happy to see it come into fruition this past weekend. This is actually the first time in lifewithlilred history that I used the same piece of clothing in two OOTDs so close together but it needed to happen and I love the end result! Like my It’s Not Just A Phase OOTD, I began with the Wild Fable yellow plaid skinnies and began to build the outfit from there…

For this OOTD, the most important thing was to avoid looking cluttered because the plaid on plaid combo is so bold. I have featured my mittoshop cami in many an OOTD and return to it often when I need a neutral top. This cami looks just as cute tucked in as it does worn normally and I chose to tuck it in for this look. I wouldn’t call it flowy but it does have some movement to it and that wouldn’t do for the sleek silhouette I had envisioned. Also, peep that peek a boo lace detailing from underneath the blazer – the sweetest way to show some skin in an almost fully covered look!

After the pants and top were sorted, all that was left to do was throw the blazer on and accessorize. At first, you might think that a plaid on plaid in two different color palettes could never work together. So, I wanted to discuss the reasons why this Anne Klein blazer was a thumbs up instead of a faux pas. The main key to the pants and blazer creating fashion magic is the pattern itself. Notice that the plaid pattern is almost identical in both pieces. This made the pants feel like an extension of the jacket and you can see where the plaid almost matches up perfectly in each piece.

The other component to these two statement items being cohesive was the color palette. Other than the red base, the blazer uses all of the colors found in the pants. The red and yellow are also found close together on the color wheel so they worked in unity rather than against each other. The black and white in both plaids were no matter, either, because they are both neutrals. And, finally, both of these pieces have a straight but fitted shape which kept the look flowing rather than breaking it up with two completely different fits.

Once the plaid tuxedo was on, shoes and jewelry were next and I went with my favorite pair of Forever 21 platforms. Like my cami, these babies appear in a lot of my looks but not for practicality’s sake – they just look awesome lol. The platform shape helped add to the punk vibe but the primary reason for choosing them was the pop of color on the back. These boots have red and gold flames, which further tied the jacket and pants together.

For jewelry, I kept things minimal because the plaid was an accessory in itself. When a look is this loud, too much jewelry can literally destroy the outfit through unnecessary distractions. I decided to go for my huge gold hoops by Argentino Vivo for one final touch of fun. I liked how it almost mimicked the outfit’s color palette with my red hair and the gold earrings. They also provided a bit of movement, which I didn’t want in the clothing but wanted to incorporate elsewhere. I think it worked!

This Mad For Plaid OOTD turned out exactly how I hoped it would and I am so proud of it. Tune in tomorrow for bloopers from this look!

My Presence Is A Present OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Christmas OOTD entitled My Presence Is A Present lol. I had grand plans for lots of Christmas time looks and, unfortunately, that didn’t go accordingly to plan at all. We celebrated with Johnny’s family on Christmas Eve and when we woke up that day, the temperature in our apartment was barely sixty degrees. It. Was. Awful. The culprit was a very improperly sealed front door and the last thing I wanted to do was stand on the cold tile of the bathroom to do my hair and makeup! These bloopers will be the last of my holiday season OOTDs so keep it posted until next year for more! Haha check it out:

Although none of these pics are worthy of being included in a Christmas card (Or are they?!), I had a celebration worthy of a Hallmark movie. My family Christmas was so incredibly perfect and it was a joy to be almost all together. We were missing my brother-in-law, Ramon, who had to work. Negative four degree temperatures didn’t slow down our celebration at all and we spent the day opening gifts, enjoying a delicious meal, and basking in the excellent company of each other. My best face might not have been forward in these bloopers but, rest assured, it was all smiles all day this Christmas. โค

I hope that each and every one of you had an amazing holiday season. Stay tuned on lifewithlilred to ring in the new year for lots more fun, fashion, and bloopers too! โค

My Presence Is A Present OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This little fit was worn during my Christmas celebration with my family and it was such an amazing day. My Presence Is A Present might be a cocky title for a holiday outfit, however, I had to let it be jokingly known to everyone since I was sporting an adorable bow headband! This outfit isn’t the most exciting but it was perfect for the day of running around after three small children and kept me warm with the frigid temp of negative four. Yikes! Check it out:

image_50397441image_50375169(1)image_50364673image_50386945(2)image_50349825image_50402049(4)image_50411009(3)

Who? What? Wear?

This outfit is actually a very far cry from what I had in mind. Originally, I was planning on wearing a skirt and jacket combo to my family Christmas extravaganza. Obviously, it didn’t end up hitting the way I had hoped for and, honestly, it was a good thing. It was SO. Freaking. Cold. and rather than spend time trying to make a less warm outfit work, I scrapped it entirely for a look that I wouldn’t completely freeze my nads off in. I also wanted an outfit that kept me comfortable as I tried to keep up with my nieces and nephew!

With simplicity, warmth, and comfort being the new focus, my striped sweater by Philosophy was the optimum choice. It is so soft and I love the way it fits. It has just the slightest touch of slouch in the sleeves while being more form fitting in the torso, which is refreshing after endless aisles of oversized cold weather apparel. And, although this holiday fit ended up being basically All Black Everything, the poppy bright stripes added some festive cheer. This sweater was an awesome purchase and it served me well in the clutch when my first fit was an epic failure.

Since a skirt wasn’t in the cards, the only other option for bottoms was a pair of jeans and I wore my old standby from American Eagle. I sure as hell wasn’t going to be wearing the distressed pair with under zero degree weather! As always, the jeans from AEO are the absolute best. They fit so well and hug the curves of my body without being too tight. I have never owned a better pair of pantaloons in my life and can’t recommend them enough if you are on the hunt for a good pair of skinnies.

For accessories, not only was my original outfit a bust but so was my hair. It just wasn’t behaving the way I wanted it to and I was getting so annoyed lol. After what felt like forever of mussing and tussing my hair in the bathroom mirror, I threw my hands up and said “Screw it, I’m getting a headband”. The green bow band that I selected was bought for a dollar at a local discount store and it was just what I needed to tame the beast of my mane and incorporate some holiday fun.

With a headband on, I didn’t want to overdo it with a flashy pair of earrings to avoid looking cluttered. So, I kept things simple with a pair of Betsey Johnson earrings in a lovely teardrop shape. This pair was ideal because it didn’t hang too low and, of course, I like anything with skulls on it! These earrings were a gift from my mom two Christmases ago and I was happy to break them out for our celebration this year. โค

Finally, it was time for shoes and I selected my pair of Olivia Millers. I purchased these for twenty dollars last winter and they are adorable and of such good quality despite the discounted price. The white stitching around the chunky base is such a cool detail and the bold silver chain turns the basic shape of the boot into something special. Granted, I did slip a little outside in these babies in the snow and ice but that’s neither here nor there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Even though my presence wasn’t a present in the OOTD I had planned for, I still like this one all the same! Keep it posted for bloopers from this look tomorrow!! โค

Bath & Body Works Haul

Standard
Bath & Body Works Haul

Hello!! When I moved into my very first apartment, I thought it was the coolest thing to be able to buy Bath & Body Works hand soap for my place. We never used them at my parents’ house so it was exciting to pick out scents just for me (Clearly I lead a thrilling life). They have been a staple in my home ever since my move in date and I always look forward to the next time Johnny and I need to restock our supply. With only one hand soap left in the cupboard, it was about that time! Check out my haul:

image_50394113(3)image_50441473(1)

Would I Buy Again:

  • Peach Bellini: YES
  • The Apple Of My Eye: YES
  • Vanilla Bean Noel: YES!!!
  • Twisted Peppermint: YES
  • Winter Candy Apple: NO
  • Fresh Sparkling Snow: MAYBE
  • The full size lotion was free with my purchase!

With four scents that are a resounding rebuy and only two “mehs”, I’d say that this was a very successful haul. Even more so because I ordered these online! Granted, I did know some of the scents already but still lol. While the Peach Bellini will always be my A1 hand soap scent, the Vanilla Bean Noel was a close second this time around. I have used the vanilla before but I forgot how freaking good it smelled. Some vanilla scents can become sickly sweet with the add ins of “sugar cookie” or “frosting” and the Vanilla Bean Noel is just right. It smells purely like vanilla bean without any unnecessary additions and I cannot wait to use it!

The Apple Of My Eye and Twisted Peppermint are also scents that I would happily buy again. Sometimes, there will be a dud of a scent in my order because it smelled nothing like what I pictured in my mind. That was not the case at all with these two soaps and there were no surprises when I took a whiff. The Apple Of My Eye smells exactly like my favorite candy of caramel apple suckers and the Twisted Peppermint smelled like… Peppermint! What a shocker. ๐Ÿ˜€

The two scents that missed the mark for me was Winter Candy Apple and Fresh Sparkling Snow. I thought that I was going to love the Winter Candy Apple but in this instance, the apple scent did nothing for me. It’s very sweet with floral notes and is one of my least favorite scents from the holiday collection. Fresh Sparkling Snow was alright. Its scent was very light, which is to be expected. However, the combination of icy melon and pear was pretty lackluster. I would buy it again if it were on sale for the cheap but would skip on it otherwise.

Overall, I am really pleased with my Bath & Body Works Haul. My only regret is that the free lotion I picked out was in the only scent that I didn’t like. SMH!!!!!!!!

What is your favorite Bath & Body Works holiday collection? What is your favorite B&BW scent? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my Jolly AF OOTD! Johnny and I had the best date day while I was sporting this look and it doesn’t get more holly or jolly than that. OOTDs are, honestly, my time to pretend like I’m on America’s Next Top Model and as you can see from the pictures above, I am well on my way lol. These posts have always been one of my favorite things to create for lifewithlilred because it’s purely fun for me. I just love the process of it. Styling an outfit, picking out a location, and trying to get perfect pictures is a fashion challenge that I am always up for. And, although going through the million pictures that Johnny takes each shoot can be a time consuming chore, the hunt for the best bloopers turns it into a much more enjoyable feat!

One of my goals for these past few months was doing a lot more OOTD posts and, unfortunately, that didn’t go as planned due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the craziness has slowed down significantly in Lil Red’s world and I am excited to get back on the horse for more fashion, shoots, and date days with my blog husband! And, of course, laughing at all of the shots that make me glad that I haven’t fully quit my day job. ๐Ÿ˜€

Stay tuned on lifewithlilred for all of the Jolly AF Christmas festivities. Even those dead inside still know how to get down with the holiday spirit!

What is your favorite thing to blog about? Do you delete “bad” shots or post them anyway? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Jolly AF OOTD

Jolly AF OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! After a wildly successful haul at TJMaxx, I have been dying to break out some of my new purchases and did so on Saturday. Johnny and I spent a wonderful afternoon visiting at my parents’ and then we went to downtown Cuyahoga Falls to take some pictures and go to our favorite bar. This was a quick photo shoot because it was freaking freezing out but, as always, Johnny was a stellar blog husband and only complained a little! Lol, check it out:

image_50753537(2)image_50456577(6)image_50415617(4)image_50753281(2)image_50737665(3)image_50735105(1)

Who? What? Wear?

Last Friday, my bestie and I had our annual holiday hang out and she gifted me with the most amazing T-shirt by Sadie Maes Co that features the tagline “Dead Inside But Jolly AF”. Nothing has ever spoken so much to me before and I truly believe that this shirt was made for me. With the approaching holiday, I just had to break it out in an OOTD and mine and Johnny’s Saturday date day was the perfect occasion.

It is very rare for me to feature a T-shirt as a piece in an OOTD. In fact, this might be the first time ever in lifewithlilred’s over eight year history! In a way, it almost threw me off a little because while a T-shirt is an essential item in the wardrobe, it is very casual. Rather than try to dress this T up, I embraced it and styled this look with running errands or a lunch date in mind. Nothing goes better with a T-shirt than jeans and to make things more interesting, I went with my ultra distressed pair from American Eagle Outfitters.

My Jolly AF outfit is about as dressed down as I get when I step out and I thought that my new Philosophy topper jacket would be a good compliment to the vibe I was going for. The pattern is so fun and bold but the light knit material offers an easygoing air to throw on over a T-shirt. I loved how the deep red and black pattern looked over the fossil grey T and this jacket is also long enough to cover the exposed parts of my legs. Very nice!

With the base of my outfit ready, it was time to accessorize. I went with one of my favorite pairs of Bamboo heeled boots for several reasons. 1) Gold and red is stunning together so the brocade pattern was ideal. 2) These boots blended seamlessly into the jeans for a nice, long leg line. 3) With a more simple base of the outfit, it gave me the opportunity to use statement heels. The Bamboo boots gave a touch of glam without going overboard and I was happy to incorporate that into an on the go OOTD.

During the cold winter months, it is a necessity to accessorize with warm bonus pieces. I didn’t want to overdo it on cold weather accessories, especially because the jacket and boots were statements enough. Remember, accessories are meant to enhance an outfit so if they start taking away from the base of your look, it might be a good idea to remove some. To keep with the grey motif, I chose my smiley face scarf by Nardi & Tagliaferri. This seemed like the best option, considering the slightly macabre memo on the shirt!ย  I also went with my favorite Steve Madden fingerless gloves. I love the surprise colors peeking out on the fingers and it added some variety to the color palette I was working with without being distracting.

To complete this look, I added a cool pair of dangly dagger earrings that I got on vacation. I like to think of my neck as one of my good features and am never thrilled to cover it up with a scarf. If you feel similarly, put on a simple pair of dangle earrings to still draw attention to that area and give the illusion of length despite your wrap or scarf. It works like a charm!

This was such a fun OOTD to create and I am so happy to use my new clothes and Christmas prezzie in a brand new look. Keep it posted on lifewithlilred for the bloopers from this shoot! โค

New Anne Klein Blazer

New Anne Klein Blazer

Hello everyone! Today, we are going to wrap up my TJMaxx Haul posts by discussing a gorgeous new plaid blazer by Anne Klein. I always feel lucky with my findings at TJs but even more so this last shopping trip. Almost every piece of clothing that I found was the only one left in the store and I got them for a steal of a price. The blazer seen below, for example, had an original price tag of one hundred and thirty and I got it for one hundred dollars less! Check it out:

image_50458625(4)image_50725121(1)image_50450689(1)

Going to TJMaxx is like a fashion treasure hunt and you never know what you are going to find. I didn’t expect to end up with so much beautiful clothes this last trip around but here we are now lol. When I saw this Anne Klein blazer, it was love at first sight. The crisp shape paired with traditional red plaid hues was so divine and the stark white stitching gave such an eye catching pop. As if I wasn’t swooning already but the awesome price sent me head over heels. โค

As soon as I tried this blazer on, so many different styling options began to swirl in my head. In fact, when I was shooting my It’s Not Just A Phase OOTD, I originally had a plaid on plaid scheme in mind by pairing my Wild Fable skinnies with a red plaid blazer from the Goodwill. While the yellow and red plaid motif worked well, the blazer was too bulky and didn’t have the structure that I wanted to achieve the silhouette that I was going for. It bummed me out a little because I knew that it could look really cool and it just didn’t lol. I sure wish I had my new Anne Klein blazer a few weeks ago during that shoot because it would have worked perfectly for the punk rock tuxedo I had envisioned!

This blazer will allow me to restyle my It’s Not Just A Phase OOTD with my initial plan AND MORE. As you can imagine, it would look stunning with some black distressed skinnies and huge platform boots. It will also add a nice dose of rock to flowing maxi skirts and sweet dresses. Or how about paired with a pleated mini skirt for the ultimate preppy bad girl look?! Now, If only I had a pleated mini skirt… ๐Ÿ˜€

After a whirlwind of Christmas shopping these past few months, Lil Red needed a gift too! I played Santa for myself with all kinds of beauty and fashion goodies and I cannot wait to put all of them to good use, starting with lots of brand new OOTDs. Keep it posted!

Have you bought anything for yourself while holiday shopping? What are you gifting yourself with this holiday season? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Philosophy Topper Jacket

New Philosophy Topper Jacket

Hey! TJMaxx is my shelter from the storm. It’s where everything in the world makes sense and nothing puts a pep back in my step like a good shopping trip. And, of course, getting great deals on each purchase certainly helps the cause too because this next item from my haul was a STEAL! Originally priced at one hundred dollars, I bought the Philosophy topper jacket seen below for eighteen bucks. You just can’t beat that and I am so excited to step out in this pretty little thing:

image_50417921(4)image_50409985(4)image_50755329(3)

In case you haven’t noticed by now, I am a HUGE fan of anything and everything houndstooth. I love clothing that features it because it is such a classic yet bold pattern and that really speaks to me. And, this blood red houndstooth knit topper jacket by Philosophy made me clutch my pearls. While nothing pleases me more than a traditional black and white houndstooth – life is better in red, as the saying goes. This jacket proves it! ๐Ÿ˜€

When I first laid eyes on my new Philosophy topper, I said a silent prayer that it wasn’t going to be dummy expensive and the fashion gods answered my humble request. I couldn’t believe my good fortune that such a gorgeous jacket was knocked down to only eighteen dollars on clearance!! I felt in my heart of hearts that this topper was made for me and me alone and it was my destiny to have it. Okay, dramatic much but still. What a find!

While I do have several warmer jackets for the cold months, I love me a topper jacket so very much. Other than walking my dog, the time I spend outside in the winter is minimal and is mainly just me going into my car and walking into work. Of course, I could wear something warmer but it just seems unnecessary. The topper jacket is a perfect solution to this and provides an additional layer of warmth without all of the bulk when I am making such short trips in and out of the car. Oh yeah, and they’re cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

Everything about this Philosophy topper jacket completely sold me. The deep red and black pattern is so punk rock and the knit fabric provides a bit of slouch to enhance the vibe even more. This jacket is begging to be worn with my distressed black skinnies, a crisp white sweater, and embellished combat boots. The topper jacket is a classic piece of clothing and I consider it to be a wardrobe essential. But what a statement it can make when you put a funky twist on a timeless staple!
