HUGE TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

HUGE TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

Howdy! Thanks to SO many generous people in my life who know of my undying love for TJMaxx, I was able to go on a post holiday spending spree with my gift cards. I went into the store with a clear vision of what I would like to spend my money on and that was stocking up on all of my skin care needs for the next few months and then some treats for myself with the remainder.

I hate to toot my own horn, but I only ended up spending eight dollars over my gift card amount and I was very pleased with my mental math and the haul below! Check it out:

skincare

The Haul:

As you can see, I am a huge fan of SkinLab products and have been using them pretty exclusively for the past half a year or so. At twenty-five, I feel like it is now time to start looking into skin care that lifts and firms and the SkinLab regimen I purchased does just that. I have been using the lift and firm products for over a month now and I already see a noticeable difference in the tightness of my skin. I’m really happy that I was able to nab more of the goods to keep this beauty routine going and hopefully they will be still be at TJMaxx when I need more!

I also took it upon myself to grab some more heat serum for my hair because, might as well. I have been using the Rusk serum for the past year now and have had no complaints. It leaves my hair silky without getting greasy and it protects my locks from the 450 degree heat of my straightener so it is an obvious must. Plus, it smells awesome!

And, finally, the micellar water and the pore minimisers. The Evoluderm micellar water is easily the best one I’ve ever used and I was so excited that TJMaxx had it again. The bottle I purchased came with a free travel size, too, which made the find even sweeter. I was also thrilled to have purchased the pore minimisers by TBS because I was obsessed with that product when I worked there. It leaves your skin so perfectly matte while shrinking pesky open pores that can cause blemishes. A little of the good stuff goes a long way so I suspect I’ll have these two bottles for a while. 😀

I am beyond appreciative to my loved ones for hooking me up with a post holiday shopping spree and had so much fun sharing the experience with my mom. ❤ Tune in tomorrow for more of my gift card haul!

December 2019 Finishes

December 2019 Finishes

Good morning and we interrupt the normal scheduling of the Holiday Haul to bring you the last monthly finishes post of 2019! December was an excellent month for using up some long term products that I’ve been working on and I love being able to start something new after a two or three month run. So take a look at my empties and let’s get to it:

7597A3BC-327C-43DE-836C-1A1279C5D42F

Would I Use Again?

Why/Why Not?

Softsoap Body Wash: I never understood why people spend a buttload of money on body washes when there are brands like Softsoap available for three dollars a bottle. I loved the pomegranate and mango scent, the moisturizing beads, and how it lathers so well. This body wash was so invigorating to use during my morning shower and it took me over one month to finish the bottle.

Garnier Micellar Water: We all know that I love my Garnier micellar water and I’ll be using it for forever, I reckon. The big bottle, which costs about twelve dollars, lasts me three months while the smaller one for around seven gets used up in one. Talk about a great value!

Clean & Clear Cleanser: I liked the Clean & Clear Morning Burst cleanser a lot. It always helped wake me up in the morning, it lathered well, and my skin would feel so fresh but not overly dry after using it. It took me at least two months to finish one bottle and I would happily use it again.

Provence Beauty Serum: This serum was a TJMaxx purchase and it lasted me a little over one month. I loved how the serum’s consistency was very liquidy because one dropper full was enough to cover my whole face and neck. Sometimes, you have to use a lot more when the consistency is thicker. The faint scent of orange in the serum was nice and it always seemed to rejuvenate my tired skin in the morning.

SkinLab Moisturizer: I absolutely love the SkinLab moisturizers and have been using them pretty exclusively for the past handful of months. The Detox Cloud moisturizer was a thicker texture but it never felt too heavy and still sat well under makeup. It is the ideal moisturizer to use during the winter months when dry skin can be a problem and it took me one month to finish one jar.

Laneige Sleeping Mask: This mini jar was a sample from Sephora and I was surprised that I was able to get at least six uses on my full face and neck from such a tiny container. I didn’t love this sleeping mask but I didn’t hate it. To me, it didn’t pack enough of a super hydrating punch but if the freebie option for it was available again I would probably go for it.

This was the perfect month of finishes to end the year on because every product was successful in their own ways. This is Lil Red’s last post of 2019 but I’ll catch you all tomorrow in 2020 for more of the latest and greatest!

Which products did you use up this month? How are you ringing in the new year? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath Bomb Blitz: Lush’s Golden Wonder Edition

Bath Bomb Blitz: Lush’s Golden Wonder Edition

Hello! I was so excited for my weekly bath time extravaganza this past week because I got to use part of my Christmas gift from the darling Kate of Live In The Nautical. Kate knows my affinity for Lush products and always treats me with bath and body care goodies during gift giving occasions. For Christmas, I was presented with the Golden Wonder holiday themed bath bomb and it was a sparkling, shimmering delight! Check it out:

03B77ABC-7462-4096-AAD0-279A845CF1B59C938BED-25A0-438C-B877-E6283B23F038FEF816C3-5119-435D-BDE3-99187B2146365139F5FD-131E-40AF-A663-522D767291C480384779-FE56-4A44-A968-19E9EBE82CD199AAF36B-D8A7-4D39-9422-F67CB9E25B4438FB6950-8170-46A6-AC08-E0119E1FC976

The first thing I noticed about the Golden Wonder bath bomb was the glitter! Just touching it left bright gold fairy dust on my hands and this made me so happy because the sparkly bath bombs put me in a mermaid state of mind, despite being in freezing cold Ohio! I was imagining a tub full of liquid gold during my first glance at Golden Wonder but it was so much better than that.

As soon as the bath bomb hit the water, it exploded with bursts of gold and green. Shortly after, the gift box shape broke in two and out came shooting stars of yellow, orange, pink, and blue. But the best part? The tiny jelly stars that were peppered throughout the water that gave ultimate hydration once rubbed on your skin.

I love when bath bombs put on a show and Golden Wonder definitely didn’t disappoint. I was mesmerized by the assortment of colors, the movement of the bath bomb, the swirling glitter, and the rich blue hue that my bath water ultimately ended up as. After watching the bath bomb fizz away, it was so nice to sink into the warm water and I ended my bath time feeling like a million bucks. Thanks, Kate!

I would absolutely recommend the Golden Wonder bath bomb and will rate it with an eight out of ten. It was festive for the season and being surprised when the box broke open and the colors came rushing out made for an exciting bath bomb show. 😀

What is your favorite Lush bath bomb? What is your favorite bath bomb color? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Amazon Haul

Amazon Haul

Helloooo everyone! Thanks to my hella holiday shopping on Amazon, I racked up big points on my credit card so I could do MORE shopping on Amazon. I figured that I would stock up on some of my favorite skin care products that I essentially got all of for half off thanks to my extra shopping money from the Amazon rewards program. I think I should be all set for a long time! Check it out:

The Haul:

My skin care routine is fairly simple: Give me a good face wash, micellar water, serum, moisturizer, and eye cream and I am all set. I am not picky when it comes to my products but, once I find a brand that I like, I usually stick with it. So, grabbing some extra bottles of the Garnier micellar water for my toner and makeup remover was a must. I also just had to snag some Destiny Boutique goodies because they are hands down the best charcoal products I have ever used.

I was a bit disappointed that Amazon didn’t carry the Wonder Therapy coffee cream scrub that I love to use when I’m shaving, so I had to try something new. The Tree Hut scrub received high marks in its Amazon reviews and the scent sounded delicious so into the cart it went. I was excited to receive this product in the mail because I was eager to take a whiff of the Lemon Blueberry Tart and it smells divine! It’s sweet without being too sweet and the lemon adds that zingy freshness which will be a perfect pick me up. I can’t wait to try it!

What are some of your go to skin care products? What is your favorite scent for bath and body care? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Dove Grey & Tiffany Blue Nails

New Dove Grey & Tiffany Blue Nails

Hellooo everyone! With the holidays approaching, mama needed to get her nails right so I took myself to Elysian Nails after work on Friday for some pampering. As always, being able to sit back and get my talons pretty while girl talking with my favorite team of nail techs was just what the doctor ordered after a long work week. I am so in love with my latest color combination and am back to feeling 100% sassy fabulous after some much needed TLC to the claws. Check it out:

nails2nails1

I have wanted to do my nails with this palette for a long time and finally found the perfect shades at Elysian to do it with. The soft, dove grey looks so charming against the more vibrant Tiffany blue and it definitely serves icicle fierceness during the cold month of December. I don’t think that I would ever go full on red and green during the holidays but this combo felt appropriate and still oh so cool during the festive season.

I would never say that I’m someone overly concerned about brand names but, what girl hasn’t fantasized over receiving that statement blue box from Tiffany’s with something sparkly inside? A girl can dream! For now, though, I’ll be okay with just glancing down at my claws and seeing a color that makes me smile!

What color of polish do you have on? How do you sport holiday nails? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Small Dollar Tree Haul

Small Dollar Tree Haul

Howdy! I end up at the Dollar Tree at least once a week when I’m with my clients and it is definitely hard to not pick up a few treats for myself while I’m there! It’s so nice to snag some little pick me ups for a whole one dollar because it’s not like you broke your bank for it if it ends up being a disappointment of a product. This past trip to the good ol’ DT provided me with a new movie to pop in during a free night as well as some adorable hair products that I hope will work well! Check it out:

borat

My boyfriend and I are notorious for quoting all of our favorite movies and shows like a broken record much to some people’s annoyance but mostly their delight! And, Borat just so happens to be one of those flicks so I was so happy to pick it up for only a dollar. Are some parts of that movie in poor taste? Absolutely. But, it’s overall pretty funny so it will be a good choice to pop in during my lazy Sundays with my beau.

I also purchased two containers each of both purple and pink hair glitter. I was sporting my tinsel fairy hair for a while but, unfortunately, almost all of the strands fell out while I was dying my locks a few weeks ago. I was disappointed because I won’t be going to the salon for a while so I’m hoping that the glitter gel will help tide me over until I can get my tinsel back. Be on the lookout for a product review post once I get around to using it!

What is one of your most quoted shows or movies? What did you get during your last discount shopping haul? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

November 2019 Finishes

November 2019 Finishes

Hello everyone and welcome to the last day of November here on lifewithlilred! This month felt like it went by SO quickly with all of the holiday shopping, Thanksgiving, and working my little tail off to make up for the days I took to myself for the holiday. Despite November passing by in the blink of an eye, I managed to use up a lot of products that I am here to discuss today with all of you. Check it out:

nov

Would I Use Again?

  • Jergens Ultra Healing lotion: YES
  • Solimo Shea Butter & Oatmeal body wash: YES
  • Bath & Body Works Blueberry Crumble hand soap: YES
  • Rusk thermal heat serum: YES
  • SkinLab Moisturizing Gel Cream: YES
  • Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment: NO

Why/Why Not?

Jergens Lotion: I have been buying Jergens as my lotion of choice since moving into my apartment. It’s fairly inexpensive for a big bottle, it smells great, and it leaves my skin feeling so well loved. I do a weekly all over use after my Wednesday night bubble bath and my skin definitely thanks me for it – especially during the cold winter months. It takes me close to two months to finish a bottle and I always have to restock whenever I do my grocery shopping!

Solimo Body Wash: I don’t love this body wash and I also don’t hate it. It smells fine, it’s moisturizing, and it lathers well but it’s kind of boring. During my morning shower, I like something really invigorating and this just doesn’t do it for me. My mom purchased a ton of these body washes off of Amazon and gave me a few so I’m not mad about that but it also isn’t my go to choice. It took me over one month to finish one bottle.

B&BW Hand Soap: I love, love, love my Bath & Body Works foaming hand soaps! The Blueberry Crumble scent smells exactly like, well… blueberry crumble and it is amazing. The B&BW foaming soaps are so nice because they make my hands feel seriously clean without drying them out. It takes me over three months to finish one bottle because a little goes such a long way and I always look forward to using one up so I can start a fresh one with another delicious scent.

Rusk Serum: The Rusk thermal heat serum is a must in my hair care arsenal and I use it whenever I straighten my hair. It is definitely a salon worthy product and my hair never feels dry or damaged despite my 450 degree straightener. Combined with my favorite IGK Mistress leave in conditioner, my hair has never looked shinier or healthier and I highly recommend both products. It took me over four months to finish one serum bottle.

SkinLab Cream: I always enjoy a good gel moisturizer and this one by SkinLab is my favorite. It feels so light but it is so crazy hydrating, which is awesome, because sometimes the really light gels don’t leave your skin feeling completely moisturized. This product absorbs quickly, sits amazingly under makeup, and keeps my skin dewy and glowing. It takes me one month to finish one jar.

Sunday Riley Treatment: I received this sample as a freebie from Sephora and was only able to use it four times. Granted, that isn’t a lot of time to see if you like a product or not but I was unimpressed. However, the reviews for it on Sephora’s website are for the most part very positive so, maybe if I had a little more, I would have liked it better. So, do with that information what you will!

Overall, November was a very successful month for empties. I love when I can finish up products that I’ve been using for a while and am ready to start fresh in December with some new skin care and bath and body goodies!

Which products did you use up this month? What are your thoughts on any of the products above? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fairy Hair!

Fairy Hair!

Hello everyone! While vacationing in North Carolina this past summer, I stumbled upon a cute little boutique that offered “fairy hair”. This was enough to get me in the store and when the saleswoman explained that it was strands of colored tinsel tied into your hair, I was sold. I was so enamored with my sparkly locks that I just had to purchase a hair tinsel kit on Amazon to make the hair bling a reoccurring theme once the ones I got fell out.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t even get one strand of tinsel into my sister’s hair let alone on myself. But, lucky for me, my wonderful hair stylist, Anna, used to do fairy hair all of the time at her old shop and said she would do it for me during my next hair cut. I was really looking forward to this because we were going to do a ton of tinsel as opposed to the ten measly strands I got on vaca.

Although it was a long process, it was worth the hour in the salon chair and I have a head full of sparkles compliments of Anna. I’ll get better pictures when I’m not taking them by myself, but check it out:

fairy2fairy

Anna and I dubbed my tinsel tresses as “disco hair” and I am so in love with the results. The compliments I get everywhere I go doesn’t hurt, either! Hair tinsel is such a fun, simple, and inexpensive way to spice up your do as I only paid ten dollars for ten huge packs of sparkles. These will literally last me a lifetime and I can’t wait to continue the hair tinsel trend during my next appointment at the Shear Shop!

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Nu Prefere

Standard
Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Nu Prefere

Hello everyone and welcome to the last swatch of the Rouge Essentiel Silky Lip Cremes by Laura Mercier. Unfortunately, I saved the worst for last, which was totally unintentional! I honestly thought that I was going to like this nude shade the best but, I daresay, I might like the orange color more than this one. Shocking, I know. Take a look at some pics and I’ll let you decide:

lm3nunu1

At first glance of Nu Prefere, I thought that I was going to like it a lot. I love a good nude lippie and this shade looked like a pretty dusty pink that I could get down with. Sadly, that just wasn’t the case. If you can recall from the last two Laura Mercier swatches, the pigment was very rich and I don’t know what went wrong with this one but it was definitely lacking in that department. What I really wanted was for the color to be as highly saturated as the others and, as you can see, it just looks like a cheap gloss rather than a lip creme.

My other qualm with this hue is the orangeness once it was applied. It has this really rusty undertone to it, which is less than flattering and a far cry from the swatch on the marketing seen above. Nu Prefere was a huge hell no for me and that’s saying a lot when I like a straight up orange shade better than a nude one! Smh.

Overall, I am unimpressed with the samples I received of Laura Mercier’s Rouge Essentiel lipsticks. The colors were not the best, the price for a full tube is outrageous, and I am confident that you could find a drugstore brand to suit you and your wallet better. Whomp whomp.

What is your favorite nude lipstick? Do you prefer neutral shades or bold colors when it comes to your lippie? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Rouge Ultime

Standard
Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Rouge Ultime

Howdy! Today, we are on to our next swatch in the Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel sample pack that I got from Sephora. This shade in the Silky Creme Lipstick is called Rouge Ultime. But, is it the ultimate red? Lil Red is a little bias because I like to think that I am. Ba dum chhhh! I’ll let you all decide for yourselves, though. Take a look and let’s discuss:

lm3rougerouge1

As I’ve mentioned before, I am very picky when it comes to my red lipsticks. Due to my complexion and hair color, only a pure red looks flattering on me. Anything with too blue or orange undertones just misses the mark. I’ve made the mistake before of buying lipstick shades willy nilly and that turned out to be a massive waste of money. So, sticking to my preferred brands and colors is usually what I opt for.

I’ve swatched a lot of lipsticks on my day on lifewithlilred and the Rouge Ultime hue by Laura Mercier isn’t bad! I like the poppy crimson color and, as we discussed yesterday, I really enjoy the creme texture of this lippie. My only qualm with this shade is that it might have a tad too much blue undertones to it for my liking.

Am I upset about it? Absolutely not, because one tube of the lipstick is a whopping THIRTY-TWO DOLLARS!! I will keep using my five dollar tube of NYX, thank you very much. Sephora samples are truly a double edged sword. On one end, it’s nice to be able to test new products out. But, on the other, if you fall head over heels for it, you usually end up thirty bucks in the hole!

Do you prefer high end or drugstore brands? What is a beauty item you splurge on? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
