Hello! Believe it or not, when the temperatures outside climb into the nineties it is almost more comfortable to be outside than it is to be in my own apartment. This past weekend, it was hot, hot, hot and all the while I was on the last dregs of my period. I was crampy, I was miserable, and all I wanted was some chocolate ice cream, damn.
After an hour or so of telling Johnny I wanted Dairy Queen, I finally decided that I would get in my nice, cool, air conditioned car and get a Blizzard for myself. Mind you, this was a pretty big deal because I usually don’t keep sweets in my apartment and I never normally indulge in sugary period cravings. But, like I said, it was a unique combination of being hot and on my period that made this ice cream no longer a want but a need.
Pleased with myself for actually leaving the apartment as I drove down the road to the local Dairy Queen, I cranked my air conditioning and the radio and could not wait to get in the drive thru line. After five minutes of bliss in the A/C, my mood took a massive downward spiral as I approached DQ and the line for the drive thru was running into the street. I knew that it would be twenty minutes of sitting there before I could even give my order so I turned around and left.
Defeated, I weighed my options on the way home. I was wearing pajamas, so going into a store wasn’t an option. There were also no other drive thru options nearby with a frozen treat that I wanted. Then, I had a brain blast and remembered that my parents always have a supply of ice cream in the freezer. And, as luck would have it, they are on my immediate way home.
I rolled into my parents house, which came as a surprise to them, and unloaded my tale of ice cream-less woe to them. Of course, they could have done without hearing about my period but it was a crucial part of the story! They sent me home with ice cream bars and an almost finished pint of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. It was just right because a small helping was literally all that I wanted.
As soon as I returned back to my apartment, I ripped open an ice cream bar and dug in. Unfortunately, it had already melted on the four minute drive home but I made it work and it was delicious! I am so thankful to have parents who are always there for me and were happy to send their adult daughter with a fierce craving home with their own groceries.
My need for ice cream was completely satisfied and now I know that I should probably keep a little pint of Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer for next month, lol! Thanks mom and dad. ❤

Ice cream is one of my favorite treats with anything with caramel. I could eat caramel with a spoon right out of the jar. Of course, I don’t cos I don’t keep sweets in the house especially now that I’m trying to regain control of my body weight! Give me a caramel ice cream treat I will be your friend forever!
