Jumpsuit Jams OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! Last weekend, I had absolutely no time for an OOTD shoot but I did have free time last Thursday after work and made the most of it by styling two brand new outfits. I couldn’t wait to break out my new goodies from my TJMaxx haul and I felt amazing in them! To start, we’ll take a look at my look with a super cute jumpsuit by Japna and keep it posted for my OOTD featuring my other purchase, the Sincerely Jules pants, coming soon. Let’s get to it:

Styling a jumpsuit was a different experience for me because there really wasn’t too much to do in terms of styling! But, that is the true beauty of a good jumpsuit; you merely have to slip it on and go. For a moment, as I was assembling the few pieces that this OOTD consisted of, I thought to myself that this was too simple. I guess I am still used to dressing up in multiple layers to beat the cold weather with! However, as I was putting on the finishing touches in the mirror, I found that this minimally styled look still had a lot to say and sometimes, simple is best.

Obviously, there isn’t much to report about the jumpsuit because the pants and top are built in lol but we can talk about why it worked so well! This was the first jumpsuit that I have found in years of searching that had everything I was looking for: A flattering shape, the pants weren’t too long, and there were no personal no nos like a plunging neckline or weirdly placed cutouts. But, what truly made this jumpsuit the one for me was its color. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bold hue as much as the next person, but this pretty linen shade provided the perfect backdrop against all of my colorful tattoos. With this combination, it turned my ink into accessories instead of something that would be clashing if this jumpsuit were blue or red, for example.

I have tried on countless jumpsuits in the past that were cute, yes, but way too long in the legs and not even my tallest pair of heels could fix that. In bare feet, this jumpsuit hit right at the ground and this was something that I could work around with a good pair of platforms. For shoes, I selected a pair of floral platforms my Qupid that gave me the extra length I needed while still providing a fun pop of pattern. Unfortunately, the pants of the jumpsuit were still a bit too long to get the full effect of the shoes, but I can’t make myself taller and that’s a small price to pay for finally finding a jumpsuit that I like!

With the base of my outfit ready to go, it was time to accessorize. As soon as I tried my jumpsuit on in the fitting room, I pictured it with a floppy hat and went with that initial inspiration. I chose my black floppy hat by Brandy Melville, which I love, and thought that the silhouette accomplished was oh so chic. For jewelry, I kept things minimal since my tattoos were out in the open. To add some extra length near my neck, I went with a simple pair of gold chain earrings and added a few statement bracelets and rings. And, with that, my OOTD was complete!

I felt like the absolute queen of a garden party in my Jumpsuit Jams OOTD and I am excited to wear this look out and about. This elegant but playful fit is perfect for farmers markets, afternoon cocktails, and fun in the sun! Tune in tomorrow for the blooper reel from this shoot!

New Japna Jumpsuit

New Japna Jumpsuit

Hello!! Last Tuesday, I enjoyed some much needed retail therapy and had a blast finally spending my Christmas gift cards from TJMaxx. I mainly needed odds and ends like birthday gifts and skin care, but I did manage to find two new pieces of spring clothing that I am loving. Today, we are going to take a closer look at an amazing jumpsuit I found by Japna – the last one on the rack! πŸ˜€ Let’s get to it:

image_50429441(5)image_50376961image_50400513(4)image_50382081(2)

I have been a huge fan of the jumpsuit theory for forever. However, in practice as a shorter gal, it has always left me disappointed. At barely over 5’1, ninety-nine percent of the jumpsuits that I have tried left me swimming in them. The other one percent featured other no go’s like random cutouts or a plunging neckline, which does nothing for me either. I had all but given up on finding a jumpsuit that would suit me best, but patience is virtue because this one by Japna is perfect.

What first drew me to this jumpsuit when I saw it was the color. While I often rock bold shades, this piece was bold enough in its shape alone and the crisp linen hue wouldn’t battle against all of my tattoos but enhance them. I also was liking the bustier style top with the gathered back because that style tends to agree with me. On the rack, this jumpsuit had everything that I was looking for, but the true test would come in the fitting room. This could be the best jumpsuit in the world and that would mean nothing if the length was dragging a foot below my feet!

As you probably already guessed because I purchased this jumpsuit, the length was not an issue whatsoever. In bare feet, it fell right at the ground and that is nothing that a killer pair of platforms can’t fix! The shape on my body was also exactly what I was hoping for. The more form fitting top against the breezy pants still offered definition, which is very important because it established a silhouette without having to resort to a belt at the waist.

Another major bonus of this jumpsuit is the extra slip of fabric falling from the waist to the lower thigh, respectively. This was great because I have tried on several jumpsuits that didn’t offer that and the visible panty lines were out of control. I was actually pretty worried about this before I tried it on because you could potentially see undies under the light colored fabric. Happily, this was not a problem and my new jumpsuit checked off every single one of my requirements. It’s like it was made for me!

I cannot wait to wear this fun little number ASAP and I think that it will be one of my staples this spring and summer. I love the ease of this jumpsuit because you basically just have to slip it on and go. Pair with platforms and a huge floppy hat and you have yourself an OOTD, baby! Keep it posted for more from my TJMaxx Haul tomorrow! πŸ™‚

NC OOTD

NC OOTD

Hi everyone and TGIF! While on vacation in North Carolina, my family did a lot of hiking so styling outfits that slay wasn’t high on my priority list. But, on our last day of the trip, we bummed around downtown Hendersonville for the afternoon, no muddy trails required. So, trust and believe that I took this opportunity very seriously and created an edgy look that was a far cry from Southern Charm! Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

Who? What? Wear?

Upon ordering my Fervour jumpsuit from ModCloth earlier this month, I have been chomping at the bit to wear it. I thought that breaking it out on vaca would be the perfect time to do so, because it traveled well in my suitcase, it’s insanely comfortable, and it’s an easy outfit because you don’t have to pair it with anything. I have been on the prowl for a cool jumpsuit for years now, and it doesn’t get much better for me than this one. It fits well (Unlike every single one that I’ve ever tried on) and it’s goth with just the perfect amount of sweetness to it thanks to the embroidered heart. In other words, it’s basically me in a nutshell.

Because the jumpsuit is a built in outfit, all that’s left to do is accessorize when wearing one. Since I was away, I didn’t have all of my options handy so I did the best that I could with what I did have. A moto jacket was a must with the jumpsuit, though, because my Nasty Gal one is tighter fitting, which complimented the bagginess of the suit well. I also went with heeled boots that would fit over the leggings to create length, which is important when something is oversized. To finish things off, I toted along my It Brit purse, white sunnies, and my signature red lip for a head turning OOTD in the streets of NC.

I love this look and I felt insanely confident in it, but I’m excited to style another OOTD now that I’m back and my wardrobe is accessible. I can picture this jumpsuit in a really sporty sense, so I’m thinking of wearing a loose fitting crop top over it, a flannel tied at the waist to cinch things in, and some cute little Nike’s for a look that Sporty Spice would be proud of!

Where do you shop for the best jumpsuits? How would you style my skeleton chic suit? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hellooo! One piece of clothing that I have admired from afar but have never found just the right one of is the jumpsuit. With a petite 5’1 frame, it’s damn near impossible to find one that isn’t made for a six foot tall model and I always end up swallowed in fabric. When it comes to my body type, form fitting is key. Which is why my new Fervour brand jumpsuit works just right. Check it out:

Aside from the fit of this jumpsuit, which we will talk about momentarily, we must discuss the amazing embroidery! As a lover of the morbid, this rib cage with a sweet red heart is right up my alley. It’s goth and edgy but still manages to look adorable. Hearts make everything cute BUT, it also has POCKETS, which takes it that extra step further into absolutely darling.

As you can see above, the bottom half of this jumpsuit more or less fits like leggings, and they hit perfectly at my ankle. It also has a dipped crotch, which sounds weird, but is comfortable as all living hell. The cute as a buttons on the racer back top make it easy to get the jumpsuit on and off once you undo them, too.

All of the details on this little number make for a purchase that was well worth it, even though it was a bit more expensive than I’m used to paying. But, that’s just what happens sometimes when you really want a jumpsuit in your wardrobe! Easy styling of this Fervour piece also made it desirable. Because your entire outfit is already laid out for you when you’re wearing a jumpsuit, all you need do is throw on a cool pair of sneaks or heels and a moto jacket and hit the road for some spooky fun!

Who else has had difficulty finding a well fitting jumpsuit? Which clothing items and accessories are you willing to spend more money on? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Jumpsuit Joy!!!

Jumpsuit Joy!!!

I’m literally jumping for jumpsuit joy right now! After months of searching for the perfect jumpsuit, I FINALLY found it! I am pleased to present my dream jumpsuit: (compliments of TJMaxx. Brand: Fire Los Angeles)

I came across this beauty out of pure luck today. After school this morning, I decided to drop some clothes off to sell at Plato’s Closet, as there’s a highway exit that leads straight to it on my way home. If you’re not familiar with Plato’s, it’s essentially a thrift store that purchases clothing from teenagers and twenty somethings. It’s so nice to earn some extra cash when cleaning out your closet! Anyways, when I dropped off my clothes, there were quite a few people in line ahead of me and it takes for FREAKING ever for your items to get sorted through, so I figured I’d run some quick errands. I stopped over at Target to pick up a facial scrub that I needed. (I can’t recommend Biore’s cleansers and scrubs enough! So fantastic.) There was so much cute stuff at Target that I had to escape before I blew my bank account. #selfcontrol So I did the logical solution….drove across the street to TJMaxx. As all of you know, I LOVE TJ’s – and believe me I tried my best to not end up there while playing the waiting game at Plato’s Closet….but the magnetic force pulling me to my fashion wonderland was just TOO DAMN STRONG!!! I made my usual rounds through the store, starting at the purses, working my way back to the shoes, and then crossing over to the juniors clothing section. I browsed through a few racks of clothing and finally came across my jumpsuit on display for all to see. When I laid eyes on this gorgeous lacey masterpiece for the first time I felt like I had walked into a brick wall. Could it be? The jumpsuit that I’ve been waiting for? Was this the light at the end of the tragic tunnel of past unflattering jumpsuits left to rot in the fitting rooms? Please GOD, let this be the one. I had no intention to try anything on during my TJ’s browsing session, but as soon as this baby was in my hands I power walked my ass to the fitting rooms in RECORD timing. My hands were trembling as I slipped out of my clothes and into the suit. My breath was held and my eyes were squeezed tight as I zipped myself up. With a long exhale, I opened my eyes to reveal the finished product…..and it was perfect. You guys have to understand that I’ve been on the prowl for a fashionable jumpsuit since May. Every single one that I’ve tried on up until now has been a miserable failure. I’m a tiny girl. 5’1 and a quarter (because the quarter counts, damnit) and 113 pounds. Every suit I’ve tried has just been too long with absolutely no shape to them. I honestly would have looked better wearing a garbage bag. Clearly these suits were designed for the tall gals! I was on the verge of giving up. I thought all hope for being a jumpsuit fashionista was lost. So when I found this jumpsuit I was ecstatic! The way it fits is just divine. It hits me perfectly at my ankles, with a gorgeous cinched in waist, a cleavage bearing V-neck for some va va voom, and some added drama on the back where a little bit of skin is exposed before you tie a ribbon at the nape of your neck. It fit me like a glove and all of the extra skin showing made what could have been an over bearing outfit extremely flattering. Plus, an older lady in the fitting room told me that I looked fabulous – so I had to get it, right? I’m SO excited to pair my new jumpsuit with my black Vera Wang wedges and my signature red lip for family gatherings this holiday season. It’s an unexpected take on a holiday outfit, but that’s what the Lil Red lifestyle is all about – being daring and taking fashion risks.

What will everyone be wearing this holiday season? What was your favorite TJMaxx find? If you are a fellow jumpsuit owner – how do you accessorize it? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Tuesday! -Sarah
