Weirdest/Best Dream EVER!

Weirdest/Best Dream EVER!

Omggg guys. I had the most insane, weird, ridiculously amazing dream last night!! It was one of those dreams that instantly gave me the thoughts “wtf?” and “I wish that it was real” as soon as I woke up. I need to talk about it before I forget it!! I’m not sure if I mentioned this before, but I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. I’ve read the books and seen the movies multiple times and I like to think that I can answer almost every HP trivia question thrown at me. With that in mind, you’ll understand how devastating it was for me to wake up from a dream that revolved around the adorable red headed Weasley twins, Fred and George. In my dream I think I was at some type of family get together – at least that’s the vibe I was getting considering I remember seeing my cousins and aunt and uncles in the dream world. Family get togethers usually invoke the image of sunshine, picnics, or a lovely welcoming home…But in my dream we were in some dark, musty, super janky building – and oh yeah, the Weasley twins just happened to be there. I remember doing a double take when I first spotted the twins in the dilapidated location and doing the classic “is that who I think it is?” to whomever was standing by me. And the thing was, it wasn’t even like it was the actors who play Fred and George….it was the ACTUAL Fred and George fresh out of Harry Potter. Be still my heart!!! So after I got confirmation that it was indeed the twin dynamos, my dream self worked up the courage to go talk to them. When I approached the boys, they were huddled over a piece of paper and writing feverishly. I asked them what they were doing and they both flashed me their classic cheeky grin and held out the paper. On the paper was a list of every single person who was at the get together with comments written beside all of the attendees. It was seriously like the ghetto version of the “Burn Book” from Mean Girls. I can recall my eyes scanning the page and trying to decipher the shitty hand writing. I could make out comments like “fat”, “tall glass of water”, and “lose some weight”. #RUDE!!! And then finally I found my name on the seemingly endless list of guests. The handwriting for my name and the comments was clear and perfect – and I swear the lighting in the dank and dimly lit room got better. By my name was the comment “most beautiful girl in the entire world” and I seriously freaked out. My heart was swooning, I was blushing like a thirteen year old, and I was totally smitten….and naturally I WOKE UP! 😦 As soon as my alarm went off I was SO pissed, because I was so aware of the amazing dream I had just had and I woke up right when things were getting interesting! I sincerely hope that my Fred and George dream comes back to me again tonight, because I’m very curious to see how it ends!!

^^^ I LOVE POTTER PUPPET PALS!

Have you guys had any crazy dreams lately? What do you think will happen next in my Fred and George dream? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Saturday. -Sarah

Lil Red Pro Tips: Weekend Fun Edition

Lil Red Pro Tips: Weekend Fun Edition

Hello there everyone! I hope all of you had a fabulous weekend…I know I did! My weekend was full of friends, family, fun, and food AKA #FFFF – it also included some really great movies and books as well! In this post I’ll be discussing with you some Lil Red Pro Tips on how to make the most out of your weekend!

DO: Watch a funny movie: My family absolutely loves the Horrible Bosses movies, and this Friday we watched Horrible Bosses 2. There’s seriously no better way to start off the weekend then with a silly movie that you don’t have to think about. The HB movies are hands down one of my favorite comedy franchises thanks to their all star cast of Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, and Kevin Spacey. Sure, they’re not the best movies in the world. And yes, they’re vulgar as all get out – but hey, they bring me to a happy place of gut busting laughter which is exactly what you want from a comedy!

DO: Cook something delicious: Lil Red was tearing it up in the kitchen this weekend! I would have taken pictures of the food, but honestly it looked kind of gross…but it tasted really good! Ha! On Friday I made a Mexican casserole that turned out really well. It had sauteed onions and garlic, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, diced chiles, sour cream, and shredded pepper jack cheese in it. It was perfect for dipping with chips or wrapping it up burrito style in a tortilla. I’ll admit that even after this home cooked Mexican dish I still wanted Taco Bell…but you can’t always get what you want. #neversatisfied I also made a lava cake like dessert this afternoon that I’m really looking forward to trying! It’s actually baking in the oven as we speak and it smells delicious, so fingers crossed!

DO: Read a good book: I finally finished the best seller The Girl On The Train this weekend and absolutely loved it! I’ve heard a lot of hype about this book and I’ve been reading it throughout the week, so I was so excited to finally finish it yesterday! The Girl On The Train intertwines the stories of the alcoholic and unstable Rachel, the mistress Anna, and Megan – the girl with a dark past. Rachel rides the train into London every morning like clockwork, gazing out the window and throwing back gin and tonics like it’s her job. Almost every morning as the train rolls by a suburban neighborhood, she watches a young couple whom she names “Jess and Jason” sitting on their patio and enjoying their morning. They seem to be the perfect couple, until one morning Rachel sees something that changes this perspective entirely. The Girl On The Train is a bone chilling thriller that will leave you guessing until the very end. This book was so so good and I can’t recommend it enough!

DO: Watch a serious movie: So tonight my family and I are going to watch The Theory of Everything and I could not be more excited. I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie since I saw previews for it in the theater ages ago. The previews alone brought tears to my eyes, and the Oscar buzz that it received only verified the confidence that I have that this movie will be amazing. You might be asking “why recommend it if you haven’t seen it?” But like I said, I am SO confident that I’ll enjoy it that I’m just laying all my cards on the table now. If anything, let this suggestion be me telling you that my favorite way to end the weekend is by watching an excellent film on Sunday night. Fridays are my comedy night, Saturdays are my going out night, and Sundays are my serious film nights. A perfect lineup, if I do say so myself. 😉

DO: Go bowling. (DON’T: Go bowling with fake nails on): Last night I had a lovely evening going bowling with my sweet neighbor, Vaughn. We went to the lunar bowling night at a close by bowling alley and had a blast. The only thing that would have made my night better is if I didn’t have my damn talon acrylic nails on! I had to use the ol’ “underhand roll” technique, because there’s no way in hell I would put my fingers with my sharp claw nails in the bowling ball holes. Honestly, even if I could bowl properly I don’t think that I would have done any better! We played four games and I got one measly strike the entire time – but I’m very proud of that strike, thank you very much! Despite this minor problem, it was still so much fun! 🙂

This weekend was one of the best ones I’ve had in ages thanks to some beautiful family time, wonderful friend time, and super good food time! I hope all of you had just as great of a weekend as I did! What was your favorite Oscar nominated film? How did you feel about The Girl On The Train? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red Recommends – Entertainment Edition

Hey there and happy March!!! Spring is on the horizon and I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for it! Especially considering it’s going to snow all day in good ol’ Akron, Ohio. -____- As of late I’ve been enjoying some great movies, literature, and music that I’d love to share with you. There’s also one heinous excuse for a film that I must warn you about, so let’s get started!!

Watch St. Vincent: I watched this fantastically sweet movie last night with my parents and I loved every minute of it. St. Vincent was a classic “grumpy old man with a sensitive side underneath it all” film starring Bill Murray who was quite phenomenal. (He was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for his performance.) The sensitive side to Vincent is brought out by a number of people and situations throughout the film including his new neighbors Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) and her young son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher), the lady of the night Daka (Naomi Watts), and his Alzheimer ridden wife Sandy (Donna Mitchell). The all star cast all give inspiring performances. I was pleasantly surprised that Melissa McCarthy was able to pull off a serious roll and young Jaeden Lieberher was sweet as can be. Usually I’m not fond of child actors, but he was just adorable and not annoying in the slightest. And can we please just talk about Naomi Watts as Daka?! Between her prostitute-y hair and makeup and her thick Russian accent, I didn’t even realize it was her until my mom told me! She nailed it. In the classic storyline with a twist, St. Vincent truly showed that you can’t judge a book by its cover. The film was the perfect combination of serious and pure fun and I can’t recommend it enough.

DO NOT WATCH Before I Go To Sleep: I’m sure you guys will recall that I absolutely loved the book Before I Go To Sleep from previous posts. I still hold true to my statement that this book was infinitely better than the popular Gone Girl. I was extremely excited to hear that one of my favorites was made into a movie starring the lovely Nicole Kidman and the hotty mchothot Colin Firth. I’ve been looking forward to watching this film for a while now and was so happy when my mom brought it home from the library yesterday. Eager to see my favorite book on the big screen (more like eighteen inch TV screen, but same difference) I popped the movie into the DVD player and was ready to be taken away into the creepy confusing world described in the book. To bring you up to speed if you’re not familiar with the storyline, Before I Go To Sleep tells the tale of Christine, a woman who experienced horrible trauma causing her memory to erase every night when she falls asleep. The movie started out okay for about ten minutes, and then everything went downhill. The movie was absolutely NOTHING like the book. Important facts were altered or removed completely and the acting of Kidman and Firth was sub par at best. Quite frankly, I’ve seen Lifetime movies that were better than this. If you read the book and enjoyed it as much as I did, don’t bother watching the movie because I give you the Lil Red Guarantee that you will absolutely hate it. If you have never read the book and are thinking about watching it, DON’T DO IT! It sucked and you’re welcome for saving you an hour and a half of your life. 🙂

^^SHAMEFUL!

Read Dad Is Fat: Lol, if you’re familiar with the extremely pale comedian Jim Gaffigan, you’ll know that this is his memoir to all things parenting. Gaffigan has a herd of five small equally as pale offspring and Dad Is Fat includes stories, tips, observations, and just pure silliness about his adventures as a parent. Usually I’m not one for reading books penned by celebrities and I’m also not fond of reading comedic books but when my brother was home a few weeks ago he brought Dad Is Fat with him (which I actually bought for him) in case I wanted to read it. He told me it was hilarious so I accepted the book to maybe read at a later time. That time came sooner than I thought, after I finished the last book I was reading The Rosie Effect in a whopping three days. (The Rosie Effect was the sequel to The Rosie Project and it was simply delightful! Definitely give the series a try, you’ll be glad you did!) Anyways, I was completely out of things to read so I begrudgingly picked up Dad Is Fat and was instantly in stitches. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and lots of fun, give this goofy memoir a try. You’ll be in laughing hysterics the whole time!

Give The Rosie Series A Try: As I mentioned above, I recently finished the much anticipated sequel to The Rosie Project, The Rosie Effect. The Rosie books tell the story of calculated, scientific, and socially awkward Don and his quest to find true love. The books never go right out and say that Don is on the autism spectrum, but you can easily deduce through the context clues that he indeed is on the spectrum. Don’s life is turned upside down in the first book when he finds himself falling in love with the outgoing and outspoken Rosie, who is literally his polar opposite. In the sequel which I really enjoyed, we find our cute couple enjoying married life until a major shock happens…Rosie is pregnant! The Rosie Effect follows the hilarious and at times heartbreaking moments in Don’s every day life. New friendships are made with eccentric characters even in the midst of a marital rough patch. Blame it on the hormones, I guess?! Can Don and Rosie salvage their relationship in time for their new baby? I guess you’re gonna have to find out!

Listen To Tom Vek: I know that I’ve mentioned Tom Vek before, but he’s slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite artists, so I figured I’d mention him again. I’m so obsessed with his album Leisure Seizure, I seriously can’t even. Vek has this amazing ability to make his voice drone on and on but still sound completely amazing. His music is moody, melancholy, and I can’t get enough. His monotonous voice is the definition of complete angst and all of his songs sound so mechanical and cool. It’s rare for me to hear an album and enjoy every song, but Leisure Seizure defies those odds, delivering hits track after track. I would put videos for the entire album on here, but I’ll leave it up to you guys to find more of his music if you like him. Here’s a few tracks that I really enjoy to get you started:

So there you have it, my Lil Red Recommends – Entertainment Edition! Have you guys read any of the books or watched any of the films I mentioned? What did you think of them? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Sunday! -Sarah

Monday Update – Annoyed Edition -___-

Standard
Monday Update – Annoyed Edition -___-

Guyyyyyyyyyys. I’m. So. ANNOYED!!!! But before I talk about the sources of my annoyances, let’s talk about the good things that these past few days have brought! My big bro Peter was home from Tuesday until Sunday before he returned back to Madison, Wisconsin. We had a fantastic time hanging out, I missed him so much! I treasured all of my time spent with him, from playing Mario Kart drink and drive, watching The Ladies Man, annihilating in some Diablo II, to just chilling and bro talking – it was all beautiful. Fingers crossed that he can come home again soon! 🙂 Alright, what else? Oh! I’m getting a new tattoo this week! I’m not going to say exactly what it is, but I can tell you it will be themed from my favorite book in the entire world, The Little Prince. So make sure you keep checking in with me this week, because I’ll for sure be posting pictures of it once it’s all done! Exciting stuff. And can we please just talk about the Oscars for a hot minute? *Kisses fingers* Mwah. To die for. I enjoyed everything about last nights spectacle – the fashion, the performances, and most importantly the appreciation I had for all of the wonderful craftsmen and women being honored at the awards. Unfortunately, I’ve been slacking severely this year as far as watching the Oscar nominated films goes – I’ve only seen three. (Unbroken, American Sniper, and The Grand Budapest Hotel which I actually just watched today and absolutely adored. C’est magnifique.) However, I plan on watching all of the films as soon as I can get my hands on them either at the library or the video store. I’m particularly excited to see Birdman and Whiplash, but everything looks so good! The Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Boyhood, Still Alice, and Ida are all on my must watch list as well! (Make sure you leave me a comment on how you feel about any of these movies – but no spoilers please!!)

Now, onto the annoying stuff….my freaking laptop that I do all of my school work and blogging on is broken – which is just dandy considering a majority of my college classes are taken online. I’m currently using one of my moms old work laptops to write this, but unfortunately it can’t run my school software very well, so I had to spend four plus hours at the local library today to do my school work. It’s not like it’s a huge deal or anything, but it was so nice to be able to work from the comfort of my home (hello no pants!) or Starbucks. And the computers at the library suck major ass, so I had to spend a lot of time today waiting for things to load or reload because I got kicked off of the servers so many times. By the time I left the library I was on the verge of tearing my hair out and proceeded to chain smoke and swear the entire way home. As soon as I got home today, I knew that I needed a break to cool my jets, so I decided that this afternoon would be the perfect time to finally watch The Grand Budapest Hotel. I loved it too much and it definitely helped get a smile back on my face for the rest of the day. Fair warning, you guys are gonna hear a lot of me being annoyed this next month, because that’s how long it’s going to take for my laptop to be fixed, but just bear with me cause god knows mama’s gonna need to vent. It’s given me quite a bit of stress this past weekend because of how much my school work depends on that damn piece of technology – so fingers crossed the problem can be solved promptly and I’ll have my laptop back in no time. Le sigh.

^^^ Today definitely calls for my happy time music. While I was working at the library today I had all of my U2 albums on shuffle on my iPod and it definitely made my work fest tolerable at the very least. THANKS BONO, YA STUD!!! ❤

Alright crew, there you have it, Lil Red’s Monday Update. What did you guys think of the Oscars? Who got snubbed? Who looked a hot wreck? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. -A Very Annoyed Sarah

Lil Red Recommends: Procrastination Edition!

Heyyyyyy guys! So I was in the middle of doing math homework, and I was getting SO (Lil) Red with frustration, so I said “fuck it” and decided to blog instead. Math homework can wait….until the day before it’s due 😉 Ha, anyways I’ve had a few fun occurrences happen this week that I would love to inform you lovelies about, so let’s get to it with my Lil Red Recommends: Procrastination Edition!

Read “The Husband’s Secret”: Lol, told you guys I was gonna recommend this one as soon as I finished reading it! It was SO good! I recently read “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty and was obsessed, so I was very excited to start reading one of her best sellers “The Husband’s Secret”. This book did not disappoint, as I expected from the phenomenal Australian author. All of Moriarty’s books weave together three women’s lives, usually through the school that the ladies children attend, which was a common theme between both books. In “The Husband’s Secret” we meet super mom Celeste, introverted Tess, and elderly and depressed Rachel. Rachel has every reason for her sorrow, because her teenage daughter, Janie was murdered years ago and the case was never solved. I can’t say much about the book, because giving one thing away would give away a lot – but I can tell you that there’s a murderer living among the quiet Australian suburb who never fully paid for the crimes committed all those years ago. Saying that “The Husband’s Secret” is a page turner is an absolute understatement. Much like “Big Little Lies”, I devoured this book in days and fell in love with all of the charming characters that “The Husband’s Secret” has to offer. Do yourselves a favor and READ THIS BOOK! I promise that you’ll like it – you have the Lil Red guarantee!

Go See American Sniper: Alright, so I understand that there’s a lot of controversy surrounding this film regarding how much of the actual story of Chris Kyle was true and whatnot. And here’s the thing – I don’t care. I didn’t look too much into all of the news stories and web articles about the subject – if I did that, I don’t think that I would have enjoyed the film as much as I did. American Sniper was directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, so by default I loved this movie. Anything that Eastwood touches is gold in my opinion, and it brought me great joy to watch a movie that had his unique touch all over it. The entire time I was in the movie theater I couldn’t help but think that the film was such “classic Eastwood”. The controversies regarding the film doesn’t take away from the marvelous direction, cinematography, sound mixing, and acting that American Sniper has to offer. Bradley Cooper gave one hell of a performance – I was so impressed! Usually I don’t care too much for him as an actor, but I truly appreciated this character and the work that went into becoming him. Of course there were a lot of parts in American Sniper that were hard to watch, but if you can look past that, you’re in for a great night at the movies.

Listen To Jagwar Ma: Ohhhh yes. Hell yes. I LOVE these guys! Jagwar Ma has one of the most unique sounds in an indie band that I’ve heard in a very long time. The thing about these guys, is that they’re so much more than just indie. They’re alternative, electronica, surfer rock, with the slightest hint of boy band swag that I just adore. Their 2013 album “Howlin” delivers non stop hits – seriously there’s not one song on there that I dislike. One thing that I’m particularly fond of on “Howlin” is that even their short songs like “Man I Need” and “Let Her Go” pack just as much of a punch as their over five minutes “Come Save Me” and “Four”. I’m sure you all know by now how much I appreciate that, because I feel like I mention it a lot. I always say that you can tell that a band is dedicated to their music when their filler songs are just as good as their main feature songs. Do yourselves a favor and give Jagwar Ma I try, I’m pretty confident that some of you fabulous people will enjoy them!

Alright guys, that’s enough procrastination for the day – mama needs to get back to her homework. -___- I hope all of you have a great rest of your day! What movies have you seen lately? What band are you obsessed with at the moment? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Love, love love – Sarah

Recommendations From Yours Truly ;)

Helllooooooo everyone and happy almost weekend!!! I’ve had a really fabulous week doing a bunch of fun stuff that I’d love to share with you guys. Maybe these ideas will give you something fun to do this weekend! Let’s discuss!

Cook Your Favorite Meal: Honestly…this one is just for my own personal enjoyment…but everyone likes food so WHY NOT let it be a group effort? During the week I had a really lovely evening with myself preparing my personal favorite meal. For about six years now my mom has made this absolutely delicious pasta salad. It uses red pepper, red onions, sauteed zucchini, mozzarella cheese, garlic, and balsamic vinegar. (You can also add herbs of your choosing and spinach if you’d like!) I could eat this salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner…well maybe not breakfast…but it’s THAT good…so breakfast? Sure, why not?! I used to really love cooking and I’m not really sure why I ever stopped. (Maybe because my mom’s food is so good! 😉 ) I thought it would be fun to try my hand at making my favorite dish for a change, and I’m so glad I did! I really enjoyed just hanging out with myself, playing some music, and preparing a meal that I know my entire family enjoys. And guess what?! It turned out great! You know how food that you make on your own somehow always tastes better than when other people cook it? That’s exactly the experience I had when I tried out my rendition of my beloved pasta salad. My dad told me that I’ll never starve now that I know how to make my favorite dish…and he’s absolutely right! Here’s a pic of how my pasta salad turned out, and if you’d like the recipe, please let me know!

YUM!!!!! ^^^^^^

Make Some Candy: I had a glorious best friend afternoon today with my darling Lea, who you guys know all about! It’s very cold in Akron, Ohio (#REPRESENT) right now. Early this afternoon I heard on the news that it felt like -17 degrees outside. Lea and I were supposed to go sledding this afternoon, but when I heard about this drastic cold I thought “oh hell no!” So we opted for a nice, cozy day indoors cooking up some yummy treats. Once we were armed with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, we began browsing through Pinterest, our activity destination. After ten minutes of scrolling through pages, we decided on making chocolate truffles. We raided the pantry for the we ingredients needed, then ventured back out in the cold to hit up the grocery story for what we didn’t have. The recipe was very easy to make, literally all you had to do was melt your chocolate and other ingredients together, put the chocolate in the freezer to let it stiffen, and then once the mixture is hard enough you roll them into balls and put whatever topping you would like on them. While our chocolate was melting and stiffening, we played Pentatonixs (or however you spell them), looked up the world’s largest body parts on Google Images, and hung out with Lea’s twin brother Bill. When the chocolates were stiff enough to shape them we had a silly time getting our hands dirty, because the chocolate was still gooey! We used peppermint candy that we crushed with a mallet, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips for the toppings on our truffles. They turned out so yummy! You can’t do much to mess up chocolate! 😉 Here’s a picture of us with our finished product! We’re just a bunch of regular ol’ chocolateers!

Once again…YUM!!!! ^^^

Go See Unbroken: This week I had a lovely date night with my other partner in crime, Kate, who you guys also know all about! We went to see Unbroken, which tells the courageous tale of Louis Zamperini as directed by the stunning and gorgeous Angelina Jolie. In the film we see Zamperini, the Olympic track star survive a plane crash in World War II. Unfortunately he doesn’t land to safety in the crash and ends up stranded at sea with two other soldiers. (One of them happens to be Finn Wittrock, who plays Dandy on American Horror Story: Freak Show!) The sailing in the emergency rafts are anything but smooth, and our heroes end up in a Japanese prisoner of war camp and eventually concentration camps. Zamperini suffers under the hands of a sadistic camp leader, which are some particularly difficult scenes to watch. However, the story tells an amazing tale. The screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen was fantastic and the cinematography and sound effects in the film were truly awe inspiring. Not to mention my dream woman, Miss Jolie directed the film to perfection. The movie is quite long so I’d recommend peeing a lot before hand. Most importantly, the film really covers some heavy and disturbing issues which might not be suitable for everyone. Fun fact for ya, a man from Stow, Ohio had a few lines in Unbroken, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from where I’m at. So way to represent, Ohio, brother man!! If you’re looking for a powerful and extremely well made movie to go to this weekend, I can’t recommend seeing Unbroken enough!

Listen To Cayucas: I know, I know so typically PacSun-y of me, BUT I CAN’T HELP IT! I love these guys! They’re seriously so beachy fun and I just can’t even. My absolute favorite thing to do is play these guys while I’m taking a bubble bath or shower, because they make me feel like I’m just chilling on the beach with my little toesies in the sand. I’ve never been to the beach before (Lake Erie doesn’t count!) but this group of surfer dudes helps me make believe that I’m there. All of their songs off of their album “Bigfoot” are crowd pleasers, but my particular favorite song is “High School Lover”….and YES we did play it at PacSun, ha! This track is very fun though. It definitely will make you think about that one guy or gal in high school that you wanted to be with so desperately or maybe was the one who got away. A charming sentiment set to a soft surfer rock vibe? It’s a win win. (Soft surfer rock?…I believe I just created my own music genre right there!) 😉

Have A Facial Night: Earlier this week, my sister asked me to give her one of my famous around the house facials, which I happily obliged to. After working at The Body Shop, I developed a love for skincare that will last me a lifetime. Here’s my tried and true step by step guide on how to give a fabulous facial to yourself or a friend:

  • Remove any facial makeup with one of those terrific cleansing wipes from your brand of choice.
  • Wet the skin with lukewarm water and if you have a clay, honey and oat, warming ginger, blue corn, or any mask in particular that you like to use, apply and let it sit for the amount of time instructed.
  • Now it’s time to use a cleanser. If you have a bristle brush, I highly recommend using one of these to give your pores an even deeper clean. If you don’t have a brush, make sure you use circular motions with your hands while using your cleanser.
  • I like to finish the facial treatment with a scrub. If you happen to use a soft buffer pad I would recommend using a rough, gritty scrub. And if you’re a fan of a more cream based scrub I would opt for an exfoliating loofah pad.
  • (Apply a toner if you’d like. But I never do.)
  • After your skin is nice and squeaky clean apply any acne topical treatment you use if needed and a moisturizer.

All of those steps listed above may seem like a lot for the skin to handle all at once, but you have the Lil Red Guarantee that all it can do is help if you use these tips every once in a blue moon! Facials scream “girls night” to me, so plan a fun night of pampering and break out the wine, chocolate, and chick flicks!

Treat Yoself: Annnnnd if you’re looking for a few fun treats to pamper yourself with, here’s a few products from The Body Shop that I’ve been obsessed with lately, which can be found in stores and online at http://www.thebodyshop.com!

The Room: The Best Worst Movie Ever

The Room: The Best Worst Movie Ever

I have absolutely NO shame in admitting that The Room is one of my favorite movies ever. I find it absolutely hilarious, no matter if I’m sober or drunk. One of my favorite things to do with my friends who are fans of the movie, is to go see it at the Cedar Lee theatre in Cleveland. (They don’t have an official website, but you can view their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/cedarleetheatre make sure you give it a like!!) This theatre is known for playing strictly Indie and foreign films. Like any local theatre they have live performances during The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and most importantly on the second Saturday of each month, they play a midnight showing of The Room. It only costs five dollars for your ticket and a night of well rounded frivolity. Nothing pleases me more than being in a theatre full of The Room enthusiasts who basically quote the entire movie word for word. There’s quite a few tried and true traditions that occur throughout the movie, so allow me to give you the proper etiquette if you ever find yourself at a midnight showing at the Cedar Lee! Make sure you bring your plastic spoons! 🙂

  • Yell “the door is ajar” every time a character leaves the door open when entering Johnny and Lisa’s apartment. The yelling ends when the door is finally shut.
  • Break into applause during the famous “oh hi, doggy” scene.

  • Make “om nom nom” noises every time Lisa and Mark eat each others faces.
  • When Lisa is seducing Mark and he questions “the candles, the music, the sexy dress” the audience questions back “WHAT CANDLES? WHAT MUSIC? WHAT SEXY DRESS?”
  • Repeat back “best friend” every time someone mentions that Johnny is Mark’s best friend.
  • Every time the panorama of the Full House neighborhood appears, sing the theme song to Full House.
  • Whenever cars are seen traveling across the Golden Gate Bridge cheer them on before the scene changes.
  • Scream “you are tearing me apart Lisa” at the top of your lungs.

  • Scream “I did not hit her, it’s not true, it’s BULLSHIT, I did not hit her, I did nahhhhhht. Oh hi, Mark.”

  • Throw plastic spoons at the screen every time Johnny and Lisa’s spoon themed art work in the apartment is seen.
  • Slow clap to all of the slow jam songs played during sex scenes.
  • Add any comments you’d like during the movie. My personal favorite is yelling “PILLOW FIGHT” when Johnny, Lisa, and Denny are having one at the beginning of the movie.

Any other traditions that occur during the movie are easy to pick up on and it’s great fun to start your own as well! If you’re in the mood to get your drink on while watching The Room, my friends and I created a drinking game just for that occasion! I recommend getting one of the larger canned alcoholic drinks and taking a sip each time a drink worthy instance occurs. Here are the rules for when to drink during The Room:

  • Every time a football is thrown
  • Whenever a panoramic shot of San Francisco is seen
  • Every time someone mentions what a great guy Johnny is
  • Whenever Lisa says that she doesn’t love Johnny anymore
  • Whenever Lisa says that she’s in love with Mark
  • Whenever someone enters the apartment but leaves minutes later
  • Chug on “You are tearing me apart Lisa”
  • Chug during any “oh hi” scene
  • Chug during Johnny’s suicide scene if your drink hasn’t been completed by then

Enjoy!!!

What are some of the traditions that occur at the theatres you go to that screen The Room? What are some things that could be added on to the drinking game seen above? If you have any suggestions, leave me a comment and let’s chat! And make sure you check back in with me tonight for my review of the new episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show! Happy Hump Day! -Sarah

Lil Red Recommends – Part 5!!!!

Lil Red Recommends – Part 5!!!!

Not gonna lie, this week has been less than ideal. Work has been filled with not so nice coworkers and rude customers and school has been stressful. Luckily there’s been a few things that have made me feel better, which I’m going to share with you in this edition of Lil Red Recommends!

Getting drunk with your mother: Last night I came home from a particularly shitty day at work to find my family getting ready to have dinner. It was Italian night in my household so naturally that called for some wine! I’m a big wine drinker and with my moms help of barely drinking one glass, I finished the entire bottle. My mom is such a light weight that she claimed that her glass of wine got her drunk, it’s the most precious thing ever. So the evening was spent with gut busting laughter, stumbling around the kitchen, and singing a duet to the song “You Had a Bad Day” while using the empty wine bottle as a microphone. It was an absolute blast. I’ve never gotten drunk with my mom before and I sincerely hope that this happens again every now and then. The straight up ridiculousness of the mother daughter bonding time that happened last night was indescribable! All of the silliness that occurred was the perfect cure to a shitty day!

hahaa

Drunken retail therapy: So after my mom and I sobered up, we headed to the mall for some retail therapy. I was in desperate need of some new jeans. But here’s the trick, I refuse to wear any denim that isn’t black and super skinny. My purchase will be discussed in the next recommendation! Let me tell you guys, while my mom may have been completely sober after her one wine glass 😉 I was still slightly tipsy from almost a full bottle of wine. And from this experience I learned that there is nothing more fun than wandering around the mall while you have a wine buzz! It took my love for shopping to a new extreme because I combined it with my second favorite thing….getting drunk. I highly recommend public intoxication at least once in your life time, its a real treat! (Only once though…then no more public intoxication, kay?)

Snake skin patterned denim: I found my beloved new jeans at Express, one of my favorite stores. These jeans are drop dead GORGEOUS. They’re jet black with a gunmetal snake skin pattern coating it and are extremely skinny. About two weeks ago while I was shopping there with my sister, I noticed these beauties and was drooling over them the entire time. Unfortunately at eighty eight dollars, they were out of my price range. But I could NOT stop thinking about them. Lucky for me, last night they were having a forty percent off sale at Express and they had one pair of the jeans left in my size. All of the other sizes they had were ginormous. I knew that the denim had to be mine. I slipped into the fitting room, and changed into my new favorite piece of clothing. When I looked into the fitting room mirror they were just as perfect as I hoped they would be. They fit like a glove and were a perfect punk piece to add to my wardrobe. I’ve been looking for a pair of snake skin print jeans for quite some time now. But all of the pairs that I have found have been a snake skin pattern on top of grey or white jeans, and that doesn’t follow my all black everything rule. I thank the fashion gods for this gift of the perfect pair of black snake skin print jeans! Hurray! (Please excuse my mismatched socks in the photo below!) 😉

Read the book Perfect: I started the book Perfect by Rachel Joyce a few days ago. (She also authored one of my favorite books, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry). I’m about one hundred pages in and I can’t recommend this book highly enough. The book revolves around a boy who has witnessed a terrible accident and is doing everything in his power to prevent his mother from finding out…as she’s the one who caused the crime. We are introduced to a unique cast of characters – young Byron who is very protective of his mother Diana who is a forward thinking woman in the 1970’s. She refuses to live the cookie cutter lifestyle of the female house wife which leads to animosity from her peers. There is also sweet OCD ridden Jim, who has been in and out of mental institutions his entire life. I have yet to find out how the paths of Byron and his mother will cross with Jim’s, but I’m excited to find out. Rachel Joyce does an amazing job of creating a feeling of empathy for each of her characters… I love them all so much already! Reading Perfect has been the perfect distraction from a below average week.

Listen to Tapes ‘n Tapes: I’ve been listening to A LOT of Tapes ‘n Tapes lately. I think that their music is just fantastic. I’ve enjoyed playing all of their albums on shuffle as I’ve been driving around to where ever I needed to be this past week. They really are the perfect Indie rock band. Each of their three albums The Loon, Outside, and Walk It Off give a solid combination of upbeat tunes, amazing instrumentals, and sentimental ballads. My favorite album between the three is definitely their debut album The Loon. Each song off of that one is a slam dunk. But there are also many crowd pleasers on their second and third efforts as well! Tapes ‘n Tapes is great driving music and just hanging around the house doing nothing music. The music video below is for their song “Freak Out” from their second album Outside. It’s super catchy!

Don’t be an asshole: Pardon my French, but I’ve come across a lot of not so nice people this week. From awful customers to the most incompatible  coworkers ever I’m almost at my breaking point. I genuinely don’t understand the people who are mean to others just for the sake of being mean. And let me tell you, I’ve encountered a lot of people like that this week. Being around stand offish people really is enough to ruin my day. For some people it’s easy to just shake things like that off, but not me. I wish I didn’t take so much offense to it, but I do. It’s just the way I am I suppose, but I don’t think it’s out of reason to be upset by people who act like assholes to you for no good reason. So here I am freaking pleading all of you guys (myself included) to be courteous and respectful to others. You never know what the person you give a dirty look to might be going through that day. #enoughsaid

Watch Step Brothers: If there’s one thing that always makes me feel better, it’s watching my favorite Will Ferrell movie: Step Brothers. I watched this with my sister and mom a few days ago and it’s still funny to me no matter how many times I watch it! I’ve seen Step Brothers enough that I can quote the entire movie along with the actors (much to my family’s annoyance!). Sometimes you really just need to pop in your favorite stupid movie and veg out for a few hours. I don’t know about you, but I always feel better after two hours straight of laughing! “SO MANY ACTIVITIES!!!”

Be thankful: With Thanksgiving coming up, this is a no brainer. But it felt right to mention it anyways. Tell your family members and friends that you love them, compliment a stranger, apologize to those you have done wrong to. You know the drill. It only takes one small act of kindness to transform yours and somebody else’s day completely!

thanks

So there you have it, my Lil Red recommends for the week! What are some things that you do to make yourself feel better after a rough week? What’s your favorite quote from Step Brothers? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Sunday! -Sarah

Halloween Fun!

Halloween Fun!

Happy Halloween! I hope all of you guys had a fantastically fun Halloween weekend! I know I did. You guys are gonna laugh when I tell you that I didn’t go out at all for Halloween. I stayed home and watched The Conjuring with my parents and hit the hay. I’ve been working nonstop these past few days at Next on top of my school work and to top it off, I’ve been a bit under the weather. So I opted to stay home. My parents and I had a blast watching The Conjuring together. It was so appropriately playing on HBO on Halloween night! I saw this movie when it came out in theaters with my sister and we were both scared senseless, but my parents had never seen it before since they’re not big scary movie fans. They were in for a treat! My mom screamed so many times during the flick it was ridiculous – but then again when I first saw the movie, I was that girl in the theater screaming my ass off! There were so many times when we were watching that I jumped along with the rents at the scary parts even though I had already seen the movie! I just couldn’t help myself!! Now when I mentioned earlier that my parents aren’t big scary movie fans, I was putting it lightly. They hate them. So it was funny to me that both my mom and dad really enjoyed the movie! The cool thing about The Conjuring is that it’s not just a stupid slasher film – there’s an actual story behind all of the scary stuff. I think that’s why myself and my parents enjoyed the movie. And can I just say, the girl who plays April in that movie is the cutest little thing in the whole world! Such a doll. Before movie night started with my parents, my sister needed help getting in costume for the Halloween party she was attending with her boyfriend, Ramon. Kristen dressed up as Link from The Legend of Zelda and looked SO FREAKING CUTE! While Ramon opted for being a ninja. The entire time Kristen was primping and preparing, Ramon and I kept laughing about how easy guys have it in life. All Ramon had to do was throw on a black hoodie and pants and he had a costume! Kristen spent at least an hour getting picture perfect, it probably took Ramon ten minutes! Lucky! They both looked great though, as you can see in the pictures below!

IMG_1070IMG_1071

Kristen and Ramon are seriously the cutest couple ever. I love them both so much. The best thing about them is that they never make me feel like I’m the third wheel when we’re all hanging out together. We always end up having a blast! They were so sweet, the entire time Kristen was getting ready they both tried to get me to go with them to the party, but I politely declined. It’s hard going out and going to parties when you’re only twenty, because at some point or another everyone ends up going to the bars, and I can’t go. Maybe I should just get a fake ID like McLovin in Superbad! 😉 I already knew that’s what was going to happen on Halloween night, because my sister had previously mentioned that that was the game plan. But when I’m twenty-one next year, look out!! All in all, it was a super fun Halloween night. I had a ball hanging out with my sister and her man candy until they left and I had some great quality time with my parents as well!

What did everyone do for Halloween? What did you dress up as? How drunk did you get? 😉 Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Sunday! -Sarah

Gone Girl: A Terrific Effort

Gone Girl: A Terrific Effort

Tonight my mom, sister, and myself had a “girls night out” to go see Gone Girl. It was alright! It held very true to the book in just about everything, which is difficult to do when Gillian Flynn’s novel packs so much detail into 415 pages. But then again, there should be no surprises in the movie since Miss Flynn herself wrote the screen play. The talent of the cast was really something to commend. Ben Affleck played a great Nick Dunne. Affleck gave Nick the perfect amount of aloof smugness that made you semi dislike him, but also gave him charm and a genuineness that redeemed him. Also, can I PLEASE give a shout out to the lovely Miss Carrie Coon of Copley, Ohio! (Represent!) this was Coon’s first film EVER, and miss girl knocked it out of the park! She. Was. FABULOUS! Everything that I pictured Margo, Nick’s twin sister being, she was. She was sharp. She was sassy. She was frazzled. She was amazing. Her work deserves a major tip of the cap, because her acting was one of the highlights of the entire film. Now, I have a bone to pick with Rosamund Pike, who played Amy Dunne, the Gone Girl herself… I really didn’t care for her acting. In the book, I pictured Amy being something…more. In the movie I felt that Pike was almost too soft with Amy’s character, therefore she came off as weak, rather than a conniving, psychopathic bitch. If Pike pushed this character just a little bit farther, she could have given the performance of a lifetime, but it just fell flat. The quiet air that she had throughout the film read as disengaged rather than a plotting, crazy wife. Don’t get me wrong, Pike did well. But it just wasn’t as impressive to me as other performances throughout the movie, which really is a shame considering she’s the title character. Crowd pleasing cast members such as Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris gave solid performances as well. They really held their own as supporting actors.
The movie was quite long, it ran about two hours and twenty minutes. However it flowed very well. There were only a few parts that were a tad drawn out for my liking, but it would pick up immediately after with another shocker. The movie never felt boring to me, as some lengthy films can easily do. People who were a fan of the book will definitely enjoy the movie. And fear not to anyone who was worried about differences from book to screen because not a toe was stepped out of line from the novel. Of course, if you’ve read my previous posts, you’ll know exactly how I feel about the ending of the book. So I shouldn’t even have to say that it’s exactly how I feel about the end of the movie. Disappointed and robbed. BUT, I knew it was coming, so I wasn’t nearly as upset as when I finished the book. To anyone who goes to the movie who hasn’t read Flynn’ novel are in for a MAJOR disappointment.
All in all I rate this film at a healthy, solid 7.1, for a fantastic effort. It was clear how much work was put into this movie, and I definitely appreciate that. Some of the acting fell flat, and the ending sucked. But to anyone who knows the story, that won’t surprise them.
Who has seen Gone Girl already? How did you like it? How would you rate it? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight. -Sarah
