Last Minute Holiday Gifts

Howdy! As you all know, I am an early bird Christmas shopper. As someone who had an extensive tenure working retail from my teens to early twenties, the last thing I want is to be caught in the midst of holiday shopping anarchy. I experienced it first hand for so long that even now I can’t be bothered with it! I still have a handful of gifts to purchase and I feel like time is running out despite Christmas being over a month away lol. In my head it is down to the wire! Waiting till the true last minute, however, can be unavoidable so let’s explore some gift options that are sure to please when it gets down to the nitty gritty:

In the weeks leading up to the holidays, there are sure to be countless vendor fairs happening in your neck of the woods. This is a win/win situation to purchase from. You will be supporting local makers while checking off everyone on your list. From homemade crafts and body care to jewelry and sweet treats, you could consider an outing to a vendor fair as a one stop shop. If you are not sure where to find a vendor fair, take a look at your local talk of the town pages. You can also explore the calendars at churches, banquet halls, or community centers which are often popular places to host a vendor fair.

The beauty of food and drink gifts are that they can truly be purchased at the last minute! Your local grocery store might carry options like gift sets for chocolate, booze with a glass or two included, or a festive tin of mixed nuts or popcorn. If not, good thing you’re in a grocery store! Food and drink sets can easily be made on your own. All you need are some baskets and an idea. Perhaps you will opt for all of the fixings for soup or a pasta dish. Maybe you will put together a basket with cake mixes and a cupcake tin. How about a basket filled with movie theater candy for those with a sweet tooth? A gift like this can be perfectly customized to the recipient and will definitely be used.

There is this common fear that gift cards feel impersonal and not thoughtful enough. I think that can’t be farther from the truth! If you feel this way about gift cards, you can still personalize it to make it feel more special. You could treat a couple on your list to a gift card to the movie theater or a restaurant for a date night on you. Maybe you will get a gift card for your mom to get her nails done and you can get a mani or pedi together. What about a gift card to Home Depot or a craft store for those with a project in mind? Gift cards specific for what a person wants or needs to get done is extremely thoughtful!

Gifts of experience are always a fabulous way to go as it’s a clutter free gift and a way to have fun altogether. You could take the kiddos on your list to an afternoon at a trampoline park or an arcade. The adults could be treated to a few rounds of drinks at a favorite bar or a dinner out. If a play or musical is showing nearby, snag some tickets! Other great options include a craft workshop or paint class, bowling, a cooking class, or a coffee or wine tasting. Whether you try something new or visit a family favorite location, a day with family is the best gift ever.

A game gift is perfect for those who love to host game nights or enjoy a rousing board game with their partner or kiddos. Like food and drink gifts, game gifts are an extremely safe bet for last minute prezzies. Any store like Walmart is bound to have shelves full! Local gaming stores also will carry classic games as well as more unique ones that you might not find elsewhere. Board games, card shufflers, or video games can be used again and again to provide hours of amusement. You can also opt for a gift card for the Nintendo Switch or a subscription for PlayStation. Then, tie it in with a gift of experience like the first family game night taking place at your house!

Regardless of waiting until the last minute, these ideas above are always going to be available and ready to put under the tree!

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Hello! Halloween is just around the corner! Are you ready? I sure am! In fact, I’ve been ready since last Halloween. ๐Ÿ˜€ It goes without saying that everything is SO. Freaking. Expensive nowadays and I completely understand not wanting to shell out for a costume if you are attending a party or an evening at the bars. As much as I love spooky season, I’m genuinely bitter by how expensive my own costume was. If you want to dress up on a budget, there are still plenty of options for you to show out in your Halloween best. Let’s explore a few last minute, budget friendly costumes that you can make with pieces you probably already own:

If you’re like me, you are an early bird holiday shopper. Or, you might also be like me and love to online shop period! What does online shopping mean? Lots of boxes! Perfect for jerryrigging a robot costume. With a few boxes and spray paint, you’re in business for a classic robot fit. Simply pair your creation with a black long sleeved shirt and black jeans for underneath and viola. Just don’t try and take over the world when you’re wearing it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you have a pair of boyfriend or baggy jeans and an old flannel, look no further. A scarecrow costume is the one for you! Bonus points if you have a straw hat but that could easily be found marked down in store for summer clearance or at a costume shop. You could even attach a few decorative crows or birds from a craft shop to your shoulder. You will need some patchwork makeup to sell this look so opt for bright oranges and yellows for this to make it pop. How easy is that?

Love wearing the color red? Love it! If you have a pair of red jeans, a red top, and some funky red shoes or heels – turn this into a devilishly good COTD. Hit up Spirit Halloween for a pair of devil horns and a tail or staff if you’d like and your costume is good to go. This can also be done with an All Black Everything motif!

A few years ago I had absolutely no time to costume shop but still wanted to dress up, of course. So, I decided to dress up as my husband! After raiding his wardrobe, I came up with a COTD that was a huge hit and was so proud of the reaction I got for such a scrambled costume. This is a fun idea for couples, besties, or siblings so have a wardrobe swap and you’ve got a costume without spending a dime.

If you have a fancy suit or still own your prom dress or perhaps a bridesmaid dress – be king or queen for the day prom style. You can even make it scary by going as the Carrie version of prom king or queen! Complete the look with a crown and sash and you have my vote for Best Costume. This is your time to shine if you have kept your prom relics so break it out again for the one time!

If you have a majority of the pieces for these ideas, it will cost you roughly twenty to twenty-five dollars to purchase the remaining accessories you need, makeup, or spray paint. Make these last minute costumes your own and no one will be the wiser that you balled on a budget to create them!

What was your favorite Halloween costume you have worn? What are your Halloween plans? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Last Minute Gift Ideas

Last Minute Gift Ideas

Hello!! I have to admit, I did not complete my holiday shopping as early as I usually do this year. However, I am pleased to report that I will officially be DONE once I pick up a gift card at my nail salon on Tuesday. It feels so good to have gifts for everyone in my big family out of the way and I have been working on wrapping a few gifts at a time whenever I feel like it lol. We are officially in the holiday home stretch and if you are just starting your shopping now, then: 1) You are giving ME anxiety! And 2) I am here to help with these last minute options. Let’s get to it:

You truly can never go wrong with a food and drink style gift and it is something I implement every year. For the families I work with, I always go with some type of gift basket like chocolate, popcorn, or cookie kits and they are very well received. In fact, this year, I scored a wonderful deal for customized chocolate tins from Ghirardelli that I am really excited about. Most stores offer a great array of gift baskets, wine or beer samplers, or cooking and baking kits so go for it!

SO many people say that gift cards are a thoughtless gift and I say FALSE. If you do feel that way, though, you can absolutely put some thought into gift cards! Treat your giftee to a gift card to a movie theater and a favorite restaurant. BOOM. Instant date night. Have a giftee that drives a lot (Like me!)? They will surely want some help filling their tank! Shopping for a shopaholic? Now they can go wild at their go to stores. Yes, it’s one of the most easy ways to complete your shopping. But, it will be a gift that’s truly appreciated and that’s alright in my book!

As a bunny mom, I can honestly say that I am THRILLED whenever I get a Chewy gift card or supplies for my gremlins as a gift. If you have some proud pet parents on your list, this could be a fantastic way to go. As a bonus, it will give them some extra scratch to spend on post holiday sales! If you don’t know what kind of supplies are necessary for your giftee’s pet, just ask. It’s another added bonus because it eliminates a chore for them too.

If you’re looking for a more sentimental option, photo albums or framed pictures are perfect – especially if you are the designated picture taker in your family (Like me!). This is a gift that I give at least one of every year because it’s just so easy and it’s really thoughtful. You could do an album of your kiddos for the grandparents, framed pics of you and your bestie on a fun day out, or even canvas prints. Websites like Shutterfly are always running great promotions so this is a gift that could be completed right from your computer!

There is literally no rule stating that a gift has to be big or expensive. All that matters is the thought!! Stocking stuffers are excellent if you are strapped for time, ideas, or cash. Think candles and lotion, shaving kits or hot sauce, socks, hats, bath bombs – I could go on for forever. A small item or two and a big smile on your face is really all you need and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. โค

If you have finished your holiday shopping: Kudos! If not, I hope these ideas help!

Hello and a very happy almost Valentine’s Day to all of you!! You are each my Valentine! If you are currently in crunch time gift buying mode for your special someone: Fear not. We are about to go over some last minute gifts that your partner will love! Let’s get to it:

Couples Paint Night:

I have seen so many advertisements for paint and sip studios hosting couples paint nights and it looks like fun! This would be such a unique date night where you can both get in touch with your creative sides and walk away with your own masterpiece. Even if you aren’t the most artistic couple in the world, it’s never a bad idea to get out of your comfort zone and try something new!

Dessert Dash:

Who needs a romantic dinner when you can just go straight to dessert? Take your boo on a dessert crawl and enjoy the sweeter things in life together. You can hit up ice cream parlors, candy shops, and bakeries to indulge your sweet tooth and get your giggle on as you achieve the ultimate sugar high. ๐Ÿ˜€

Old Standbys:

Honestly, the standard gifts for Valentine’s Day are great. Who doesn’t love flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, candles, and bath and body care?! I understand why people might view the old standbys as a cop out but rest assured that a gift basket filled with traditional V-Day goodies are always going to go over well.

This sentiment also remains true for classic date nights like dinner and a movie. In fact, that’s one of my favorite date nights! Dress to impress, take a night on the town, and have some fun. Take the time to do a search for well reviewed restaurants like “Best Indian Restaurant in London” (or your local area), make reservations, and pre-order tickets for the movie too. Then, all you need to do is enjoy your date!

Dress To Impress:

How about a shopping date before dinner? Take a detour to the mall and pick out a brand new outfit for each other to wear! After all, you have to look your best as you flaunt your couplehood to everyone. ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol! As a fashionista, myself, this is a gift that I would love – going shopping with Johnny is my fave. โค

Couples Photo Shoot:

Photography adventures are a blast! Create a playlist, take a drive, and scope out pretty locations for a couples photo shoot. Explore new places and capture the memories for a totally thoughtful date day experience. Then, you can pick out your favorite shots to get printed and hung up at chez vous.

One For The Books:

Is your sweetie a bookworm? Delight them with a bookstore date! Visit a local shop or Barnes and Noble and purchase some titles from their must read list. Afterwards, find a cozy coffee shop to post up in and get lost in a good book. Simple, sweet, and sure to please.

However you spend your Valentine’s Day with your special someone, have the best time. Enjoy each others company and stroll down memory lane as you remember all of the beautiful reasons you fell in love!

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? How are you spoiling your partner? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Hello!! It’s Halloween weekend and if you are without a costume, then I feel it! I, myself, am store bought costumeless this year because I had literally no time to go shopping for one. However, I will be using one of my last minute ideas that we will be discussing today so it’s all good! If you need a costume for a party or passing out candy to trick-or-treaters, you might be surprised by what you can make from the pieces in your own closet. All you will need is some makeup to fully complete the look! Let’s get started:

Scarecrow:

If you have some ripped up blue jeans, a flannel, and a sturdy pair of work boots, then BOOM: You instantly have a scarecrow costume. For makeup, you can look up tutorials to do some patches on your face and hands for the full effect. You can also use the base of this costume to be a cowboy or cowgirl. Just swap the work boots for cowboy boots and add a hat and you’re ready for the rodeo. ๐Ÿ˜€

Decade Costumes:

Do you have a love for a certain time period with the clothes to match? Then you are all set! Decade costumes from the 70s, 80s, 90s, or whatever tickles your fancy are always a hit. You could put together the ultimate jazzercize costume or a look that’s worthy of the disco with flared pants, platforms, and a sleek button down. Easy peasy!

Undead Bride Or Groom:

When Johnny and I pass out trick-or-treat candy, I am just planning on wearing my black wedding dress and doing some undead makeup lol. No matter the color of your dress or suit, this is another quick fix if you are costumeless. If you aren’t keen on wearing your own wedding attire, secondhand shops tend to have a wide selection of weddingwear on the cheap.

Your SO Or Bestie:

Are you attending a party with your significant other or bestie? You can dress up as them! If I don’t feel like wearing my wedding dress, this is the route that I am going. All one needs to do is raid your costume inspiration’s wardrobe or find pieces that they would wear in your own. Since I already wear Johnny’s clothes constantly, it might be fun to style a look that he would wear when he’s playing a concert!

Sportswear:

Win the gold with your costume by dressing up as an athlete or just a super fan. If you have a passion for watching or playing sports and you have the gear to back it up, then this is the costume for you. Paint your face with your favorite team’s colors, get one of those hats that you can drink beer out of, and you are good to go!

Animal Attire:

Is dressing up as a cat, teddy bear, or bat the most original costume? Not by a long shot! However, it will have to do if you are crunched for time. You can pull a Karen from Mean Girls and be a mouse… duh! Either way, all you need is clothing the color of your animal, ears, potentially wings, and makeup and you will be ready for your Halloween plans.

Although I had a store bought costume in mind, I am a-okay with a makeshift one this year. Keep it posted to see what I end up dressing up as next week on lifewithlilred!

What are you dressing up as for Halloween? What are your Halloween plans? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Last Minute Gifts When You’re In A Bind

Last Minute Gifts When You’re In A Bind

When life gets ahead of us thanks to a whirlwind schedule, gift purchasing can seem like the last thing on your mind. But, alas, birthdays and holidays still come and go, and gift buying is a necessary part of it. Whether you’re picking something up from a store or online shopping, last minute gift shopping isn’t always a bad thing – as long as you don’t make it glaringly obvious that you did, that is. Check out these tips for when you need to do the last minute gift hustle for your next get together:

Something Fast:

The first option to consider is one which is in place entirely for its speed. Amazon Prime Same Day delivery has started to cover a very wide range of products recently, opening the doors for those with phobias of the outside world to buy things without venturing out. And the best part of these services, is that you will often get your hands on the goods within hours of ordering them. This is perfect for when you have a bit of time at home before you need to present your gift. Of course, when it comes to Amazon, you can often choose to have items gift wrapped, too.

Something Personal:

There are plenty of personal gifts out there which you can give to someone and they will cherish it for a long time. That piece of jewelry or furniture they keep glancing at, for example, could be a great gift, and you donโ€™t have to go and buy it. The odds are that you will own a good range of different items which could inherit heirloom status. Being passed down or across generations, items like these could stay with people you love for hundreds of years, and could even find themselves in the hands of great people down the line.

Avoiding The Physical:

When youโ€™re in a rush, giving something physical may be a mistake. If they live too far away for you to visit, you will have to use the postal service to get their gift to them, and this could be a problem if youโ€™re not careful. Avoiding this is simple, leaving you with loads of great options. For example, subscription services like Spotify, are becoming extremely popular. Giving you access to hundreds of gifts, looking down the digital route can be a great way to avoid missing the big day.

Professional Services:

Companies that are willing to bend over backwards to make you happy can be found everywhere. Professional services, like chocolate making and flower arrangement, are great when youโ€™re looking for gifts for people you love. Companies like Camelback Flowershop have the skills and resources to be able to take and prepare custom orders to be delivered on the same day. Of course, this is based on location, and you will have to find a business close to you. Once you do, though, you will be able to start turning birthdays you miss or forget about into something very special. This sort of gift can be touching when you have it arrive for you.

Something Homemade:

Basing a gift on your hobbies is often a simple matter of putting yourself to work, and will only take a bit of effort once you get into it. Drawing, cooking, singing, and crafts are but a few examples of the choices you have here, giving you a huge range of different gift ideas to choose from. This is something that you will have to dedicate a lot of time to in the short window you have between remembering a birthday and seeing the person who is having it if you want to get it done in time. This will be hard to manage if you have a busy schedule to contend with, but the reaction of your loved one will be so worth it!

Printable Gifts:

If you own a printer, you have the makings for tons of easy gifts which most people will never try. Buying tickets to a musical performance, for example, will often give you the ability to print off the documents from home, rather than having to wait for them to come in the post. Using this sort of gift will give you the chance to choose something personal and well thought out, without having to have the time to spend on making it happen.

Last minute gift shopping can be totally stressful, so use this guide and breeze through your next occasion with ease!
