TJMaxx Extravaganza!

TJMaxx Extravaganza!

As you guys well know, one of my all time favorite shopping locations is TJMaxx. I had a particularly good haul of fun new pieces to add to my growing collection when I went with my mom on Sunday night. My mom is my TJ’s partner in crime, and we go at least once a month to shop around and see what’s new. More often than not we always walk away with something super cute for an awesome price. On Sunday I got three new shirts for about forty dollars – and you can’t beat that! Take a look at my latest obsessions:

shirt1shirt2shirt3

Here’s a quick breakdown of the brands of each shirt as usual!

  • Grey maxi shirt: Gaze USA
  • Taupe maxi shirt: Tresics
  • Flannel vest: Vanilla Star

I’ve been looking for some cool maxi shirts for forever now. During my last visit to H&M the ones that they had were all knee length or longer, and unfortunately those ones swallowed me whole. Both the taupe and grey shirts that I found were long in the back and short in the front, with the longest part hitting me mid-thigh which is the perfect length for my 5’1 1/4 self. (Because the quarter counts, damnit!) Now I’m not usually a fan of a plain Jane t-shirt, so I had to find something to spruce the look up, and I was really hyped when I found the rocker-cool flannel vest. Pairing both of the maxi shirts with the vest created magic, as the colors compliment each other perfectly. Today I’m wearing the grey shirt and vest layered over a pair of opaque black tights and a black pair of spanx-esque biker shorts. If the maxi shirts were just a smidgen longer I would have no problem wearing them as a shirt-dress with only the tights on- but alas, without the biker shorts I would look like a total hoochie. I’m actually a-okay with the biker shorts though, because it just adds to the grunge look that I was going for today. To complete the look I threw on my pair of Vince Camuto pointed toe booties (also compliments of TJMaxx), my signature dangling black cross earrings (even though I’m not religious in the slightest), and a long bronze necklace with Pinocchio on it (which is a TJMaxx find as well! It’s an oldie but goodie.). My new purchases have lent me a helping hand in achieving the grungy/but still put together look that I love so very much. I felt like such a rock star when I rolled into school this morning in my head to toe TJ’s look – what more could you ask for in an outfit?

necklace

I’m on the hunt for more cool maxi shirts, preferably in black because TJMaxx didn’t have any, which is a bummer. So if you know of any stores or websites that are rockin the maxi shirt trend, PLEASE leave me a comment and let’s chat! I hope you’re all having a fabulous Tuesday, and I will talk to you all laterrrrr! Much love. -Sarah

Treat Yoself! Valentine’s Day Edition

Treat Yoself! Valentine’s Day Edition

Hey guys! So yesterday I had an absolutely lovely day of Valentine’s Day shopping – TJMaxx and Target were very good to me! I had to treat myself like a princess yesterday because no one else did (lol) and no fucks were given…because no one loves Lil Red better than Lil Red! So here’s the purchases that set my bank account back a little farther than I’d like, but it was so worth it!!!

shopping

As usual, here’s a list of the brand names of each item. (All of the pieces pictured above are from TJ’s.)

  • Pointed toe ankle boots: Vince Camuto
  • Quilted tall boots: Rampage
  • Lace peasant skirt: Flying Tomato
  • Harem pants: Japna

I was SO excited when I found my pair of Vince Camuto’s. These beauties were on the clearance rack and I got them for twenty-nine bucks as opposed to the original one hundred and twelve! Such a steal!!! I have a feeling that these are going to be my new go to booties, I seriously plan on wearing them with everything. I’m looking forward to wearing them with my new harem pants, dresses and tights, and of course my black coated skinny jeans (I only wear black coated denim!)! But the beautiful thing about these booties is that they can easily be worn in the summer time as well (which is a nice thing to fantasize about considering it’s a whopping zero degrees in Akron, Ohio -___-). I can’t wait to pair these bad boys with cute little shorts, maxi skirts, and sun dresses all summer long! At Target I found a plain black crop top and a really pretty white lacey one that I tried on but didn’t buy. Naturally, I couldn’t stop thinking about them when I got home, so I went to Target’s website and was so happy to see that the tops were twenty percent off online on top of the extra five percent I get for using my Target Red Card. With all of these deals I got both crop tops for twenty dolla AND I got free shipping. #fabulous I’m pretty hyped about the white crop top because it’s going to match perfectly with my new lace peasant skirt!! It’s gonna look so pretty! :*) I’ve been meaning to get a plain black crop for forever now, so I figured “why not” and bought that too. You can’t beat two for twenty! #treatyoself

^^^ Best shopping themed song EVERRRRR! Jupiter Rising is such a guilty pleasure!

So there you have it, my special Valentine’s Day treat to my favorite gal in the world…ME!!! How did you guys celebrate V-Day yesterday? How did you treat yoself or your significant other? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. -Sarah

Golden Globes 2015 Into It/Over It

Golden Globes 2015 Into It/Over It

The Hollywood award season is upon us again! The Golden Globes were on last night where we got to see some fabulous stars strut around in some gorgeous and…. not so great looks. I decided to do one of my Into It/Over It segments for the Golden Globes, so let’s discuss:

Sienna Miller – Miu Miu: I am so very INTO IT!!!!! I thought that Miss Sienna looked drop dead gorgeous!!! This Miu Miu stunner is one of my favorite looks of the night. The dress is so whimsical and fun but Sienna manages to look grown up and sexy at the same time. Miu Miu is one of my all time favorite designer brands, so naturally I turned green with envy when I saw this gown. I spotted it as a Miu Miu right away and began drooling immediately. Not only is the dress fab, but her hair and makeup looked divine as well. She honestly could have gone either way in the hair and makeup department with either the natural look she’s rocking or something a little more loud and crazy. The natural look is working so well though, she looked like a fairy princess from the land of glam. I’m sold.

11

Rosamund Pike – Vera Wang: Oh hell no. I am so completely and absolutely OVER IT. I usually adore Vera Wang’s designs, but not this one. Major thumbs down. I hate using this word…but the Gone Girl actress looked saggy. This dress offered her literally NO support in her breasts or back, causing a very unflattering over all shape. One of the most important fashion rules is to always define your waist, which was also not happening in this look. Quite frankly, I’m disappointed. I was expecting Pike to come out looking like a stunner, and this look didn’t do anything for me but make me cringe. The bland hair and makeup was doing nothing for her either as well. Whomp whomp.

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsRosamund-PIke-241072

Patricia Arquette – Escada: Oh, Patricia my darling. First of all, congrats on your win for Boyhood. Bravo. Second of all, I’m OVER IT. This look just didn’t do it for me, and I wanted it to work so badly, but there was just so much going wrong. The gown was in desperate need of a good ironing, some expert tailoring, and for that damned shoulder piece to be removed immediately. The look would have been so much better without that shoulder detailing. Not perfect, but better. I’m quite disappointed in her hair and makeup. Her red lip looked sloppy and her hair was pulled back into a bun that was almost falling out. My main problem with this dress is how top heavy it made her look. All of the extra fabric and rouch-ing made the look very frumpy. Disappointed.

6

Emma Stone – Lanvin: Gorgeous! Stunning! I’m INTO IT! The Birdman actress absolutely soared. In my eyes, Miss Stone can do no wrong and this fabulous Lanvin jumpsuit is no exception. I love looks on the red carpet that I can see myself wearing and this is definitely one of them. Everything is just working SO WELL together, from the sparkling bodice, the ankle cut pants, and that gorgeous bow tie on the back. This is something that shouldn’t have worked and Emma proved us all wrong. I love that she didn’t do much to her hair, because the wavy laid back-ness of it truly counterbalanced the Hollywood glam of the look. Her alabaster skin looked absolutely perfect, and her red lip was flawless. Amazing. This is what a young twenty something actress should look like.

7

Kerry Washington – Mary Katrantzou: Ugh. OVER IT. When my family and I watch award shows together, my parents usually leave it up to me to give the fashion opinion. But when my dad verbalized his distaste for this look, I knew that it was really bad. The thing about Kerry Washington, is that you could put her in a potato sack and she’d still look gorgeous. This woman deserves to wear nothing but masterpieces so when she’s in something that’s not up to par, it’s just so gut wrenchingly noticeable and awful. I hate how this dress doesn’t go all the way to the floor – it’s literally three inches above the ground, just make it floor length, damnit. I also really hate the metallic pink and navy combination going on. If this dress were solely the navy color, I think she’d look quite stunning. I guess the reason that I dislike this look so much is because I know that Kerry can do so much better. Her hair and makeup look lovely though! Hopefully she’s wears a stunner at the next award show to make up for this lackluster look!

1

Taylor Schilling – Ralph Lauren: Do I even have to say it? I’m beyond INTO IT! Our Orange is the New Black star was absolutely radiant in red. She was GLOWING. Miss Schilling looked like the belle of the ball in this gorgeous Ralph Lauren gown. This dress fit her like a glove and her skin looked flawless. The way this dress moved on the red carpet was divine. This dress is pure Hollywood to me. Taylor Schilling is the epitome of glamor in this look and I’m blown away. Miss Taylor can ditch the orange jumpsuit and stick to the gowns because she looks like an absolute star. Well done, you.

Taylor Schilling

Kristin Wiig – Delphine Manivet: Ouch. I’m sure a lot of people, like myself are OVER IT. Kristin Wiig has such a lovely body, why hide it in this frumpy mess? This material looked like it came off of a couch from the seventies and the shape of the dress looked just as dated. I’m not sure who dressed miss girl, but this look was so inappropriate for such a star studded night. Not only did the dress lack in all departments but her hair and makeup were a hot mess as well. I’m going to say for Kristin Wiig what I’ll be mentioning for Jennifer Lopez later, the bronzer looked so cakey! I just wanted to take a tissue to both of them and wipe all of that gunk away. Her hair looked very dull as well. Extremely unimpressed. My advice? Fire your stylist immediately.

3

Jennifer Lopez – Zuhair Murad: Oh look, it’s Kristin Wiig’s bronzey twin! So of course I’m OVER IT. Miss girls golden globes looked like they were going to pop out of this dress any minute and I was so not impressed. The thing with Jennifer Lopez is that we know she’s sexy, hot, and has a whole lot of va va voom. She does not need this cheap looking dress to showcase that. If she were put in an actual gown last night of that same material, she would have looked stunning. Her awful excuse for a smokey eye and her cakey cake bronzer weren’t helping either. Jennifer Lopez ended up looking like a Las Vegas showgirl rather than red carpet royalty. Shameful.

2

Conchita Wurst: Yes. Hell yes. Miss girl better WERK! I’m INTO IT! I wish that I looked as good as this sensational drag queen in a gown. I also wish that I own this gown. It’s so fabulous I can’t even. This is the most unconventionally drop dead gorgeous look of the night. What more can I say?

8

Naomi Watts – Gucci: Wow. This was one of my other favorite looks of the night asides from the lovely Sienna Miller. I’m INTO IT! This canary yellow Gucci stunner was an A++++! The way that this dress complimented that pretty blonde hair with her creamy fair complexion was simply divine. Every time Miss Watts was shown on screen last night all I could say was “I want that necklace, I want that necklace, I WANT THAT NECKLACE!!!!” The bejeweled snake choker was such an edgy, unexpected accessory and I adored it. The hair and makeup were perfect and I adored the red lip, which looked way better than I thought it would with a yellow gown. This look was stunning. Bravo.

10

So there you have it, my Into it/Over it looks for the 2015 Golden Globes! What looks did you love? What looks could you have done without? What would you have done to make some of these not so hot styles look better? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Monday! -Sarah

OOTD – Grandma Chic

Standard
OOTD – Grandma Chic

Booooo! So somehow my OOTD “Grandma Chic” article from yesterday got deleted, so out of the kindness of my heart, I’m going to rewrite it! 🙂 Here’s my effort at styling the “Grandma Chic” trend with a modern and youthful twist:

IMG_1001[1]IMG_1002[1]

As usual, here’s the break down of the brands of each item and where I purchased them:

  • Cardigan: Modcloth, Knitted Dove
  • Novel T-shirt: Modcloth, Out of Print
  • Hunter green ankle skinnies: Aerie
  • Oxfords: Target
  • Hat: PacSun, Gypsy Warrior

I had an absolute blast styling this outfit. I centered it around my cream and mauve Knitted Dove cardigan which is very “grandma-ish” in my opinion! I got this sweater years ago from Modcloth and it still remains to be one of my favorite purchases from the site. Once I knew the center piece of my look, I added all of the other articles of clothing accordingly. I thought that my hunter green skinny jeans from Aerie would be the perfect complimentary color to the cardigan. I also thought that the fit of these jeans would help add to the laid back look that I was rocking because they’re a regular old skinny jean and not a super skinny jean like I usually wear. To keep the outfit feeling fresh I added my Le Petit Prince shirt to wear underneath the cardi. The Little Prince is one of my favorite books of all time, so when I saw this shirt on Modcloth, I knew it had to be mine! It didn’t feel right pairing this look with my usual heels or combat boots, so I opted for a classic pair of Oxfords. I feel like every woman young and old owns at least one pair of these shoes. I own two myself, while my mom owns over five! To top off the look, literally, I added my favorite Gypsy Warrior hat for a fun and modern twist. As all of you know, I love clothing with sweet surprises worked into them. I really feel like it was all of the fun quirky details like the gorgeous crochet work on the back of my cardigan, the pop of hot pink soles on my shoes, and the red and white feathers in my hat that kept this look appropriate for a twenty year old. All of these charming surprises kept the look feeling really fresh – without them the look would have been very blah and just “grandma”. The unexpected details definitely elevated this look to Grandma Chic status!

So there you have it, my “Grandma Chic” OOTD – again! Where are all of my Modcloth shoppers at? What’s your favorite item you’ve purchased from there? What are your favorite ways to style a Grandma Chic look? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Monday! -Sarah

PS: Check out my article on the brand Out of Print for more details on their company. Every t-shirt purchased from them gives money to help literacy programs in third world countries! OOTD – First Day of School!

OOTD – First Day of School!

I had my first official in school college class today at Tri-C, so I wanted to make sure I had a sharp and smart outfit! I went for a bit of a preppy look today and I was really happy with it. I felt so confident when I strutted my stuff into the classroom this morning! Take a look:

IMG_0891[1]

As usual, here’s the breakdown of the brand of each article of clothing and where it was purchased at:

  • Aztec sweater: Miami, Francesca Collection
  • Coated black jeans: H&M, I bought these jeans about two weeks ago, so if you like them they definitely should still be available for purchasing in store or online. http://www.hm.com/us/
  • Navy pea coat: Rock Steady, ModCloth
  • Tan knee high boots: I.N.C., Macy’s

Like I said, I felt awesome in this outfit – especially because each piece in this OOTD are some of my favorite things that I own. This look was a little more pricey than my usual outfits because I purchased each thing as an investment to have for years to come. I consider everything I wore today very classic and timeless so they were definitely worth the extra moolah spent on them. All together this OOTD probably cost me about $230. That price made me bite my lip a bit, but the amount I wear these pieces together or separate has made the investment so worth it. I’ve also owned these articles for about one and a half to two years each, minus the jeans from H&M. My favorite thing about this outfit is the sweet detailing on all of the pieces. I’m obsessed with the heart elbow patches on my pea coat, the quilted knees of my jeans, the braided decal going up the boot, and you can’t really tell in this picture but there’s silver tinsel-like material crocheted into the sweater. All of these little surprises through out the outfit definitely gives it a little extra oomph. I felt like a college student in this look, therefore I achieved the look that I was going for today! It was a successful OOTD and most importantly – a great first day of school!

What is everyone rockin today? What’s your favorite investment piece you’ve bought? What are pieces you plan on investing in for the future? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

OOTD – Making Monday Less Mundane!

Standard
OOTD – Making Monday Less Mundane!

I have a bad case of the Monday blues today. It’s a dreary, overcast day in Akron, Ohio, so I figured I’d brighten the grey streets with a somewhat loud outfit.

IMG_0868[1]

As usual, here’s the breakdown of everything in my OOTD:

  • Tank top: PacSun, Kid Dangerous
  • Body con skirt: TJMaxx, Just Ginger
  • Faux fur vest: TJMaxx, Me Jane
  • Wedges: Kohl’s, Vera Wang

Yesterday when I was on a quick TJ’s run, I found my new faux fur vest. I tried it on just for fun, and naturally ended up falling in love with it. As many of you know, I love a good bargain – so when I saw that the vest was only $19.99, I knew it had to be mine! I can’t wait to pair it with sharp black skinnies and wear it belted with a dress. I need your help by the way: Do any of you lovelies know a good brand of spray paint to use on clothing? I would really like to spray paint “FAKE” on the back of the vest, so when I’m strutting down the street the world will know I’m not an animal murderer fur wearer. Please leave me a comment if you have any suggestions!! My LA Don’t ❤ U tank is one of my favorite things I ever got from PacSun. I think it’s so sassy and cute. I love it so much that I bought a back up one in case something happens to my original! I’ve had my body con skirt for ages, I got it from TJ’s about three years ago and I wear it pretty frequently. It’s the perfect amount of sexy and sleek so I don’t feel trashy or over exposed when I wear it. My Vera Wang wedges were a must to complete this outfit. They’re my all time favorite! All together this outfit probably cost me less than $70 which I think is fantastic. Every article of clothing I have on today I got for a really good deal. I believe my Vera’s only cost me $20 – you can’t beat that!!

What is everyone rockin today? What are you doing to hype yourself up to shake off the Monday blues? And once again if you have any spray paint suggestions, please leave me a comment! Have a great day! -Sarah

Lil Red’s Fall Fashion Obsession!

Standard
Lil Red’s Fall Fashion Obsession!

My fall fashion staple this year is everything khaki! I think it’s the most fantastic neutral in the whole world. To narrow my obsession down even more, let me specify with these three jackets – which I plan on wearing all fall and winter long!

IMG_0854[1]

All three of these coats are from PacSun, the trench coat is Jack and the two pictured on the right are LA Hearts. I bought that gorgeous belted trench when I was 16. I remember seeing it and thinking it was the most beautiful thing in the world. It’s probably the most classic article of clothing I own. Therefore, four years later, I’m still madly in love with it. My favorite way to wear my trench is with a super sharp pair of skinny jeans, knee high boots, and a bowler hat. Whenever I work variations of this outfit, I seriously feel like a model strutting down the streets of New York City. It makes me feel SO chic and stylish. It’s such a simple outfit too, yet so timeless. Ten years from now, when I’m 30, I know I’ll be wearing something similar. My LA Hearts parkas are also fantastic fall staples and layering pieces. The top right jacket was purchased a year ago, and it still remains as my go to fall coat. The contrast between the khaki structure and the charcoal gray sleeves is so alluring to me. And don’t even get me started on the cute Aztec elbow patches! Love. No matter where I go, I always get complimented on this coat. Both right hand pictures are great for layering. I usually pair both of these with a sweater and some type of scarf to tuck into the neckline. When paired with something heavier underneath, I can usually get away with wearing these babies into the snowy winter weather. One thing that I fell in love with about my bottom right coat was the utilitarian feel of it. I liked the symmetry of the two sets of pockets and I thought the toggles on the waist were a really sweet touch. The plainness, for lack of a better word, of this coat really drew me in, because I knew I could pair it with anything and it would look awesome. I’m excited to pair this baby with a dress and tights this fall. Honestly, I’m excited to pair all of these with whatever I want this season, because no matter what, they’re going to go with 100% of my wardrobe. Khaki is a fantastic take on the usual neutrals such as black, brown, gray, or navy. It feels a lot fresher, which is what I really like about it. I’m always on the prowl for the “fresh take” on go to colors or pieces, and I think khaki fits this to the T!

What’s everyone’s go to fall piece? How do you plan on wearing it? How do you make your neutral pieces pop? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Out of Print

Out of Print

I’ve recently grown very fond of the brand Out of Print. The T-shirts feature different iconic and often out of print book covers. Not only are the shirts adorable, but the purchase of them helps benefit a great cause. For each product sold, one book is donated to a community in need through the brand’s partner Books For Africa. All of the clothing is treated to feel soft and worn, like a well read book. I found my first shirt from the brand in a cute little boutique called Shoo in Wisconsin. I instantly fell in love with the Goodnight Moon shirt, as it was my favorite growing up. At the boutique they also had a little onesie for a baby with the Le Petit Prince cover on it, but unfortunately no adult t-shirt. I was so disappointed because Le Petit Prince is one of my all time favorites. I was so pleased to find it when I was browsing on ModCloth and just HAD to buy it! Whenever I wear either of these shirts, I get tons of compliments, and I always make sure I let the admirers know about the great cause they can help out by buying these shirts. Here’s the company website: http://outofprintclothing.com/ make sure you check it out, and find your favorite book! You can also purchase some select styles on ModCloth as well: http://www.modcloth.com/

Here are a few of my personal favorites that I’d love to add to my collection:

OOTD! Ta da!!!

IMG_0500.JPG
Soooo happy I got to break out a fun fall outfit of the day today!!! This outfit is one of my favorites because I’m wearing all of my favorites!! Here’s a breakdown of my clothes and where they’re from:
Jacket – PacSun, LA Hearts brand
Green sweater: American Eagle Outfitters
Coated skinny jeans: PacSun, Bullhead brand
Hat: PacSun, Gypsy Warrior
Boots: Macy’s, I.N.C.

If there’s one color I LOVE wearing, it’s dark green. It compliments my skin tone, hair color, and eyes to the T. There’s something so alluring to me about a fair skinned redhead in a nice deep green. It really makes a statement. The jeans I’m wearing are Old Faithful. I’ve had them for years, and I can’t bear to part with them…no matter how often the zipper falls down per day from so much wear and tear! The jacket I’m layering with is one of my favorite fall jackets. I purchased it last year, and still love it just as much to this day. The fun elbow patches are what really sold me, and I love the contrast between the colors of the dark khaki and charcoal gray. The boots I’m rocking today are a pair I’ve had for quite a while, but only recently started wearing frequently. Shame on me for that, because they really are gorgeous! They’re such a nice change from my usual beat up combat boots. (The sole of the shoe is completely peeling off….I’m going for the hobo chic look ;))). I thought my Gypsy Warrior hat was the perfect accessory to tie the outfit together. Variations of this outfit are gonna be my staple for fall. What looks do you guys plan on rockin this season? Comment me some ideas! -Sarah
