Toledo Zoo Birthday Fun!

Heyy everyone and happy Saturday! And most importantly, happy one day until my 21st birthday!!! I had a beautiful day yesterday with my darling little BFF Lea at the Toledo Zoo for my birthday day trip celebration, so let me tell you all about it! WELL, we left Cuyahoga Falls yesterday around 9:30 and arrived at the zoo a little before twelve after an over two hour drive. We had to stop one time in Sandusky so I could go to the bathroom and we ran into quite a few characters before we even got to the zoo in the McDonald’s facilities…There was a lady with the longest pee Lea and I have ever heard that prevented both of us from going, which was AWFUL because I could barely walk from having to pee so bad. And then we can’t forget the girl who we ran into as we were washing our hands who was dressed up as a cat – face paint, tails, ears, the whole shebang. But hey, to each their own! After we relieved ourselves we made it to the zoo after another hour or so and unfortunately I had to pee AGAIN once we got there! This time it was even more urgent than the first which I didn’t even think was humanly possible! SO after another pee, we purchased our tickets from two evil, unhelpful, rude, rude, rude ladies and entered the Toledo Zoo! We explored the first half of the zoo which had elephants, penguins, primates, alligators, crocodiles, birds, reptiles, bears, tigers, and a gorgeous brand new aquarium. Unfortunately after we finished up at the elephant exhibit at the very end of the first half of the Toledo Zoo it began to rain really hard. But luckily, I packed my emergency beanie (the “E-Beanie”) to protect my red locks from the rain and Lea and I found shelter under the roof of a building. After surviving the downpour in Naked & Afraid: Toledo Zoo Edition, the sun came out and we were ready for some snacks and to get to the next half of the zoo that we still had to explore. We got some super delicious French fries that we finished before we even paid for them (whoops!) and of course some Dippin’ Dots because it’s our zoo tradition! YUM! We didn’t have much time to explore the second half of the zoo because we were unaware that they closed at four on weekdays rather than five – actually we didn’t find this out until about ten minutes before they closed because I consulted the map for some reason or another. As luck would have it though, the second half of the zoo was smaller than the first half so despite the speedy walk through of it we still got to see almost everything – rhinos, wolves, hippos, polar bears, sea lions, eagles, and a bunch of African Savannah animals including our all time favorite, GIRAFFES! They were so glorious!!!! We finished our zoo adventure by watching the majestic giraffes walk around their vast Savannah-esque habitat which was shared with other species of animals like ostriches, gazelles, antelopes, and more. It was a completely perfect day! Here’s a few of the pictures that I took during our Toledo Zoo visit:

^^^ WTF is that fish? Hahaha! I’m so sad that I can’t upload videos on here because I have the cutest video of my favorite part of exploring the zoo…While watching the sweet gorillas in their exhibit with another family the gorgeous creatures were just kind of hanging out and lounging and eventually the family by us left. As soon as this family made their exit one of the gorillas decided to show off for me and Lea by rolling up and down the hill like a little kid. He went back and forth again and again until he tired himself out and it was seriously the most precious thing ever! He could probably sense that it was a special day for Lea and I and wanted to give us a little pre-birthday performance!

Yesterday was such a blast and I seriously had the best time with my darling Lea! We had so much fun during everything – the car rides, the zoo, the stormy weather (Lea and I are great at making not so good stuff enjoyable – one of the many reasons why I love our friendship!), and of course the Dippin’ Dots! What a fabulous birthday day trip extravaganza! Tonight I’ll be going out to dinner and the bars with my friends so you probably won’t hear from me tomorrow on my birthday due to a very probable hangover. SO that means I’ll be officially twenty-one the next time you talk to me on the usual Monday Update segment! AHHHH! I hope all of you are having a terrific day so far! Build A Bear Birthday Fun!

Heyyyy everyone and happy Hump Day! As you can see by the title of my post and my featured image photo, my sister Kristen treated me to some Build A Bear birthday fun last night! (More like Build A Minion fun!) After seeing the Build A Bear window display of the silly yellow Despicable Me minions at Belden Village mall on Sunday, I was smitten. My sister recognized the burning desire in my loins to build a minion of my very own, so last night we went to Summit Mall which is closer to us so we could create some new stuffed animal friends. Unfortunately when we got to the mall we found out that they closed down the Build A Bear about two weeks ago. According to a kiosk employee everyone was “heartbroken” by it, which Kristen and I found absolutely hysterical. I was SO disappointed by this shocking discovery (one might even say heartbroken) and because my sister is amazing she said we were going to go back to the car and return to Belden Village in Canton. SHE’S SO SWEET! Thankfully within the two days of going to Belden Village the Build A Bear there didn’t close down so we were in business! As we entered the store we were surrounded by a plethora of toddlers and their parents – we looked severely out of place but that didn’t stop us from picking out a minion for me and a My Little Pony for Kristen. I was so happy that Kristen was going to make an animal with me because she’s had her eye on the My Little Pony stuffies for forever…and the fact that we were both making a creature gave us equal opportunity to make fun of each other! We got our minion and pony stuffed to perfection and bestowed them with the names “Kevin” the minion and “Frank” the pony on their birth certificates. Needless to say, we totally love them and I had the best time last night creating Kevin as an early birthday treat. It was seriously so sweet and thoughtful of Kristen and it made our outing even more fun since she participated in the Build A Bear experience as well! Now I understand why children like that place so much! Here’s some pics of us and our new best friends:

Super Silly Fun Night

Howdy everyone and TGIF!! Omg guys I had the most fabulous night with my sweet best friend Lea yesterday! It was a terrific evening of crafting, eating hella Cheez-Its, and being straight up silly – it was perfection. The last time we hung out we tried making a canvas art craft of a night sky over looking a city silhouette….unfortunately we couldn’t get past painting our canvas black and dousing it with glitter so we called it a night. But last evening we were dedicated to making something pretty out of our black canvas, and this was our final result:

^^^ So adorable! Mine is the one on the left and Lea’s is obviously the one on the right! Here’s the step by step guide on how we made our cute canvas craft: #ohyoucraftyhuh

Step 1) Paint your canvas black. (Optional)
Step 2) Pour glitter all over your freshly painted canvas. (Optional)
Step 3) Cry. (Optional)
Step 4) Give up. (Optional)
Step 5) Try again! Lea and I decided to go balls to the wall with this craft so we just started painting over our glittery black canvas however we pleased. I was trying to go for a more sunset-y vibe…and I’m honestly not sure what vibe Lea was going for – but it turned out great!
Step 6) Find a silhouette picture on the computer of whatever you like and cut it out. Or if you’re an overachiever and can draw well, feel free to draw out a silhouette. Lea and I are both a big fan of the cutesy couple images, so that’s what we both opted for. But it really can be anything – a giraffe, a toilet, a bomb…it’s up to you!
Step 7) Glue on your silhouette and bask in the glory of your craftiness!

Throughout our evening Lea and I basically annihilated a bag of Cheez-Its – as you can see by my featured image photo, and it was the most fulfilling snacking experience I’ve ever had. So the answer is yes, there probably is Cheez-It residue all over my canvas. After we completed our craft, we spent the rest of our time together creeping on people on Facebook, laying in bed being silly, and making up quotes that historical figures and celebrities definitely didn’t say. For example, when we posted our picture of our craftiness on Facebook we captioned it with “A steady hand and a calm heart” – Elenore Roosevelt…..Okay – maybe it’s not that funny BUT it was SO funny to us!! I’m so happy that I got to have an evening off from drowning in homework to have some much needed girl time with my darling. We had such a blast and by the time I got home I felt rejuvenated enough to complete the rest of my work at the prime time of 11:30 at night! #dedication

Nail Tech Love Is The Best Love!

Hi hi hi everyone! So my summer classes started today and everything is good so far, but I decided to take a quick break to tell you guys a super sweet story about my beloved nail tech Vinny! I was having a not so hot day yesterday, which I mentioned while Vinny and I were texting. After flourishing me with compliments, Vinny sent me a link to his favorite classical song to help me relax:

The song was absolutely gorgeous and as you guys know I fucking love U2, so I texted Vinny to thank him for sharing his favorite song with me. He then texted me back telling me to check the comments on the video, so I got back on YouTube and found the video again. As I looked through the comment section, this is what I found:

^^^ SO sweet. Once I saw this comment I immediately started ugly crying, but it was a happy ugly cry if that makes sense – Haha I was seriously so touched by my dear friend’s gesture that I just couldn’t help it! I texted Vinny to let him know my current crying situation and then he told me that the song he sent me should be played at my wedding. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and laugh mid cry at such a classic Vinny statement. I then sent him a correction to his previous text, telling him that the song can be playing at *OUR* wedding! Vinny and I have a very special friendship and we both love each other very much, but there was something so special to me about our exchange last night that I just had to share it. It was just so damn sweet and it was exactly what I needed after a not so great day. So here’s to you Vinny – you’re more than just my nail tech, you’re seriously one of my best friends. Thank you for being you and thank you for always treating me like your princess. I LOVE YOU! #teamvinny

One More Picture Of Me…Hurray ;)

Lol, heyyy guys. As you can tell by the title, another pretty pic of me got uploaded so I wanted to share it really quick! (Photo credit goes to Kate Powell, holla!) Take a look:

^^^ The pasty pale is SO real in this photo and I completely love it!! I also hate to brag, but my lashes look really great in this picture! Applying ten minutes worth of mascara every morning really does pay off apparently! #lashwhore I’m sure you guys have noticed that I wear my black cross earrings in literally every photo I post on here, and that’s because I wear them every single day. These earrings are my all time favorite! Sometimes people ask me “But Sarah, you’re a hardcore atheist, why are you wearing cross earrings?” My reply is always something along the lines of “I like them because they’re edgy and cool and crosses don’t necessarily symbolize religion.” But that’s neither here nor there – the point is: I love these earrings, and until I find a new pair that I’m hopelessly obsessed with, I’ll be wearing them for forever! As you guys have seen from all of my pictures, I am the epitome of “white” haha my pale skin puts vampires to shame. Therefore, I’m on the hunt for a super cute parasol that I can carry around this summer as a fashion statement and to protect myself from the sun. So I need your help…If you know of any cool websites that carry vintage-esque parasols, PLEASE let me know!!! Thanks! 🙂

Woman Crush Wednesday ;)

Hellooo everyone and happy Wednesday! So today my sister asked me if she could be my “Woman Crush Wednesday” to which I replied “I’m my own Woman Crush Wednesday” (classic Sarah!)…But secretly, Kristen is always my WCW and my Woman Crush Every Day (WCED) for that matter, so take a look at this major hottie!

^^^ Damn!!! My favorite picture is the last one because it really captures Kristen’s true beauty. :’) (PS: The dress that Kristen is wearing in my featured image photo is what she picked out when we went shopping at Urban Outfitters during our weekend in Wisconsin. So cute!)

I love my beautiful, sweet, sassy, super, gorgeous, pretty, hot, annoying, smelly, and smart sister more than anything. She’s my best friend, she shares my DNA, and she touches my butt sometimes when we cuddle. :*) Who could ask for anything more in a sibling and in a #WCW? Beautiful, Fabulous, Perfect Day!

Helloooo everyone and happy Hump Day! So I was laying in bed reading Still Alice (so far so good, btw!), but I had such a terrific day yesterday that I decided to put down the book and tell you guys all about it. Not gonna lie, my day started out really rocky. I had a not so good appointment with my psychologist that ended with me walking out of the session halfway through. I was pretty much fuming as I left the building and got in the Little Red Love Machine, but my mood instantly did a 180 as soon as I reached my destination point post appointment. I was lucky enough to be able to squeeze in best friend time with my two favorite girls, Kate and Lea, so after my shit show of a session I headed straight to Lea’s for some coffee and girl talk. We hit up Dunkin and made a quick trip to the nearby mall so I could snag a free panty from Victoria’s Secret AND a free lotion from Bath & Body Works…who doesn’t love free?! After my little errand we went back to Lea’s for some much needed girl talk. We made plans for the next craft we make together and my birthday outing, vented about all of our recent turmoils, and had plenty of time to be our usual goofy girl selves. Literally within thirty seconds of first seeing Lea, my mood improved and I was so thankful for it. I needed our best friend time so bad, and I cherish it like no other. Before our time together came to a close, her twin brother BILL (!!!) took a million batrillion pictures of us – some cute, some candid, some completely awful BUT I loved them all! My shitty day turned fabulous continued after I left Lea’s for some best friend time with my other darling, Kate. As soon as I arrived at her house, I learned that we were heading to Target (our favorite!) for some bar cart supplies. We left with a drink shaker kit and some porcupine shaped salt and pepper shakers…they were completely necessary. Once we arrived back at home base, Kate made us the most amazing vodka cranberries I’ve ever had and then we headed to the great outdoors to hijack Boggle from her parent’s house so we could get our drink AND education on in the sunshine. Kate and I both share a deep love for word games, so it was wonderful to have a worthy opponent! Halfway through our extravaganza we decided to finally take the fifty foot trip down the street to this really precious chocolate shop to get some snacks and a chocolate bribe for Kate’s mom so that we could borrow her fancy camera for some photo shoot fun. The chocolate was delicious, the bribe worked, another drink was made, more Boggle was played, and a photo shoot was had. Take a look at Kate’s amazing shots! ^^^^ SO gorgeous! Before I discuss these pictures further, here’s the usual break down of my OOTD:

Rust orange dress: Urban Outfitters, Kimchi Blue (This is the dress I got at the Urban in Wisconsin during my trip this weekend! So obsessed. Thanks mom! <3)
Bomber jacket: This actually belongs to Kate, but she got it at Target!
Black zip up wedges: Kohl’s, Apt. 9
Panama hat: PacSun, Gypsy Warrior

Honestly, there’s really not much to say about these pics other than the fact that I’m in love with them. And most importantly, this is literally Kate’s second time picking up her mother’s professional camera. What even? Kate has this super human ability to excel at everything that she tries and clearly photography is no exception! These photos are actually the first of many that she’s shown me, because we seriously took a ton – so make sure you keep it posted for more of our photo shoot!

As you can see from Kate’s pics, she managed to light a fire in the fire pit just hanging out in the back yard area of her apartment complex, so naturally we substituted our vodka cranberries for beer, took more pictures, and played more Boggle around the fire. (Due to Kate’s ability to light wood on fire with a candle lighter, I’m convinced that she’d be able to survive Naked And Afraid…she’s a woman of many talents!) Once it started getting chilly outside, we brought our sweet asses back into the apartment for some crafting, Papa John’s pizza, and a viewing of our Netflix favorite…The Ladies Man. A more perfect day could not be asked for. Both hang outs with my two girlies were so special to me in their own unique ways, and I’m so thankful to have two chickas that can shake my bad mood in an instant. Lil Red is one lucky bitch. ❤

Akron Zoo Adventure

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday! Because I was away this weekend, I didn’t get to write about the beautiful afternoon my best friend Kate and I had last Thursday at the Akron Zoo! The weather in Akron was absolutely perfect for a zoo excursion, so best believe I broke out a sun dress and some fun wedges for the occasion! We had some lovely quality time roaming the park and the aquarium and making friends with the animals which Kate captured on her mom’s fancy camera. All photo credit on this post goes to Kate Powell, and shout out to her because she did an amazing job! Take a look:

Picture 1: Cute little birdy in the aviary! Honestly all of the birds in the Akron Zoo’s aviary set up were birds that I could see in my backyard, but that’s okay because they were still fun to look at! The aviary is laid out like a tree house that looks over the entire zoo, complete with a rickety wooden bridge. Love it!
Picture 2: The grizzly bear in this pic was gnawing at a fallen tree like nobody’s business. Hey, a bears gotta eat. The bear eating the log looked very similar to me when I’m eating Taco Bell, therefore the grizzly bear is one of my many spirit animals. (Lil Red Fun Fact: My number one spirit animal is a peacock!)
Picture 3: Ahhhh that goat was the cutest – and I must say my nails look fantastic in that picture! There’s an adorable barnyard section at the Akron Zoo complete with goats and sheep that you can feed and pet, and I especially bonded with the little sweetie in this picture! :’)

Picture 5: This tiger pic is mine and Kate’s favorite. Kate captioned this photo “Lunch a la toddler” because there was a little kid standing by us when Kate snapped this shot, and the tiger is definitely looking at something pretty longingly! And let’s talk about those eyes! So gorgeous!
Picture 6: I’m also very fond of this photo of the majestic looking lion. He had his tongue hanging out for most of our time looking at him, and it looked so ridiculously goofy and I loved every minute of it!
Picture 7: Lololol, Kate captioned this pic “The Introvert” and that pretty much sums up this big guy. Every time I see a tortoise I always have a fantasy of climbing up on top of its shell and riding around on it cowgirl style…A girl can dream, right?

Besides all of the gorgeous animals that you can see, the Akron Zoo also has lots of fun stuff to offer like their carousel and a clear plastic slide that takes you through the watery otter exhibit. One thing that Kate and I particularly enjoyed was the touch tank in the aquarium. We got to feel up some stingrays, a crab that I forget the name of, and a chocolate chip starfish. The stingrays did not feel like what I was expecting them to feel like at all – they were really silky and velvety as opposed to the greasy and slimy that I was expecting. Despite all of the amazing exhibits and activities, The Akron Zoo is relatively small and Kate and I got through the entire zoo in under two hours. If you’re ever in the Akron area and are looking for a fun way to spend your afternoon, I can’t recommend the zoo enough!

FaceTime Fun!

Whatupppp. So I recently discovered after over a year of having my iPod fifth generation that I can FaceTime on there! Better late than never, right? My FaceTime experience began when my best friend/soul mate, Kate needed a chat and I couldn’t come over to her place for some reason or another. After about fifteen minutes of technical difficulties, we finally figured FaceTime out and had a lovely Skype-like convo. My favorite FaceTime story though has to do with my darling and dear friend Tyler, who’s in the army and lives in California. Tyler is my Middle Aged Monday cocaptain, my confidant, and someone who I hold very close to my heart. (You can read all about Tyler in my posts “Middle Aged Monday” and “My Friend, Tyler”). I haven’t seen Tyler in over half a year since he began basic training in October and then left for California in January. Before FaceTime (B.F.), we would text and write letters to each other. But needless to say – I still missed him terribly! Thanks to Kate helping me discover that I had the capability to FaceTime on my iPod, I asked Tyler if he had the technology to video chat with me in Cali, and luckily he did! We scheduled a FaceTime date with each other, and my heart was seriously pounding like a drum while I waited for the call to go through – I haven’t seen Tyler face to face in so long and I was SO excited! When we finally got connected with each other and I could see his goofy self, I legit could have cried. Being able to hear him and see him talk was so special to me – texting and letter writing are great, but there’s really nothing like hearing someone’s voice. During our first FaceTime it was mainly just freaking out over actually seeing each other! We decided to make our video chats a weekly thing, so once a week we FaceTime for a half hour or longer – as long as it takes to tell each other all of the news we have from the previous week! Being able to talk to Tyler face to face – or phone to iPod I should say, seriously never gets old. Every time our FaceTime call connects through and I see his face appear on my screen it still makes me feel the way I felt during our first video chat with each other – happy, happy, happy! My favorite thing about our FaceTime talks is being able to laugh with him. I never realized how much I missed his laugh until I got to hear it again! We talk about serious stuff, but a hefty portion of our chats are usually devoted to reminiscing on old inside jokes and making references to our favorite movies that we would watch together during our Middle Aged Monday hang outs. I never knew that something as simple as a video chat could bring me so much joy, but here we are a month later and I still look forward to our talks every week and I cherish every minute of them!
