Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Rouge Ultime

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In Rouge Ultime

Howdy! Today, we are on to our next swatch in the Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel sample pack that I got from Sephora. This shade in the Silky Creme Lipstick is called Rouge Ultime. But, is it the ultimate red? Lil Red is a little bias because I like to think that I am. Ba dum chhhh! I’ll let you all decide for yourselves, though. Take a look and let’s discuss:

lm3rougerouge1

As I’ve mentioned before, I am very picky when it comes to my red lipsticks. Due to my complexion and hair color, only a pure red looks flattering on me. Anything with too blue or orange undertones just misses the mark. I’ve made the mistake before of buying lipstick shades willy nilly and that turned out to be a massive waste of money. So, sticking to my preferred brands and colors is usually what I opt for.

I’ve swatched a lot of lipsticks on my day on lifewithlilred and the Rouge Ultime hue by Laura Mercier isn’t bad! I like the poppy crimson color and, as we discussed yesterday, I really enjoy the creme texture of this lippie. My only qualm with this shade is that it might have a tad too much blue undertones to it for my liking.

Am I upset about it? Absolutely not, because one tube of the lipstick is a whopping THIRTY-TWO DOLLARS!! I will keep using my five dollar tube of NYX, thank you very much. Sephora samples are truly a double edged sword. On one end, it’s nice to be able to test new products out. But, on the other, if you fall head over heels for it, you usually end up thirty bucks in the hole!

Do you prefer high end or drugstore brands? What is a beauty item you splurge on? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In L’Orange

Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Creme Lipstick Swatch In L’Orange

Hello!! When shopping with Sephora online, you get to pick two samples out of eight or so for free. Normally, I’ll select a perfume tester for my mom because she’s a fragrance gal and, if they’re available, lipstick sample pods for me. I am not the most adventurous when it comes to my lippie colors because I will always prefer my NYX matte red lipstick over anything else.

However, I do like swatching the shades that I get as Sephora freebies on lifewithlilred. During my last haul, I selected the Laura Mercier tester pack to share with all of you. This is the Silky Creme Lipstick in L’Orange:

lm3lm4lm5

I have never been an orange lipstick kind of girl. Anything with the faintest orange hue in it appears awfully clown like on me when it is paired against my red hair. This is unfortunate, because I love the idea of peach colored lips in the summertime. I think L’Orange would be a perfect summer or late spring shade but with snow falling consistently in Ohio now, the cheerful shade seems almost inappropriate while it’s so crap lousy out.

Would I be willing to try this shade out on myself? Hell no. Do I think it would be pretty on the right person? I think it would be stunning. But, orange is a really tricky shade to pull off so it would have to be done right. When paired with a simple all white ensemble and a more natural MOTD, a huge statement could be made with one small pop of color.

Now, as far as the consistency of this lippie goes – it really wasn’t bad. Shocking, I know, because Lil Red is a matte girl through and through. Despite L’Orange having a shiny luster to it, it wasn’t a glossy feel at all. It felt heavier than your standard gloss lipstick but not as much as a full on matte lippie. I could get down with this, especially in the colder months when it’s so easy for your lips to get dried out, which can become even worse with a matte lipstick.

Overall, I’m still impressed with this product so far but not in this shade. So, I’ll be looking forward to trying another hue tomorrow!

Do you prefer a matte or glossy lipstick? How do you rock a bold lip color? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Jouer Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick Swatch In Rose Gold

Jouer Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick Swatch In Rose Gold

Hi! Today, we are going to take a look at the swatch for Jouer’s Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick in Rose Gold. I have not tried this product on yet and, frankly, I am a bit nervous to because the reviews for it on Sephora’s website were abysmal at best. However, I think that the color is gorgeous and I’m hoping that I won’t hate it as much as everyone else does when I get around to using it, lol. Take a look:

jouerjouer1jouer2

The main complaint with this lippie among the reviews is that it is dry as the Sahara Desert and, even just from having it on my hand, I agree. It dried in the ten seconds it took me to take the pictures and it was about a bitch to take off. I had to scrub fairly roughly with water and then micellar water to get it completely removed. So, imagine having to do that on the sensitive skin on your lips. No thanks.

It’s too bad, because I like the color a lot and it’s disappointing to get something that might suck. But, at the end of the day, I got the sample size FO FREE so it’s not like any harm was done. I just wish those product reviews were up before I chose this as a freebie!

Has anyone tried this lippie by Jouer before? What are your thoughts on it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Clinique Almost Lipstick Swatch In Black Honey

Clinique Almost Lipstick Swatch In Black Honey

Helloooo everyone and welcome to a new post where we will be swatching Clinique’s “Almost Lipstick” in Black Honey. I got this lippie FO FREE with my Beauty Insider points from Sephora and I like it well enough but I do feel like the name is super misleading. My dumbass, who didn’t read what the product was like, assumed that it would be more of a cream based lippie judging by the pictures. However, it feels and looks very glossy. Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

cliniqueclinique1clinique2clinique3

So, I guess the buzz on this product is that it fuses with your natural lip color to create a shade that is unique just for you. Did I really notice anything that special about it? No. But, that’s not to say that I didn’t like the color because I did. I was surprised at how light such a dark shade appeared on me and I thought the glossy, plum shade looked nice.

Do I think that a large sized tube of the Almost Lipstick is worth twenty dollars for what’s basically a lip gloss? Not at all and if I didn’t get it for free with my points, I would never consider purchasing it. I’m a little disappointed with this product. I don’t know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn’t the results I had. Maybe I just feel that way a bit more because I normally really like all of the Clinique goodies that I have tried so this one feels very lackluster.

But, in conclusion, save your money for something more worth it because a tinted lip balm is not worth twenty dolla holla. #notimpressed

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Swatch In Red Heels

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Swatch In Red Heels

Hiii everyone and welcome to the second swatch from my Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire collection samples. We are going to be looking at a gorgeous shade of red appropriately titled Red Heels. And, let me tell you, the glossy shine is so reminiscent of a brand spanking new pair of patent leather red stilettos and I am LIVING for it! Take a look and let’s discuss:

guerlain1guerlain2heelsheels1heels2

After falling head over heels for the other sample color in Pink Tie yesterday, I was so excited to give this luscious red a try. And, it definitely did not disappoint. These colors are my first stint at taking a closer look at gloss lippies and, once I got it in my head that it’s going to be a different look than my preferred matte, I was definitely more willing to like something new.

Lil Red is all about rich, saturated colors. And, I think that’s why I always go for matte lipsticks. I like that the color completely covers your lips while a gloss kind of just lays over top of it. I love these Guerlain colors and I think that a gloss would be a nice change of pace when I’m on the go at work, because it’s not so super done up. And, I can totally see myself applying it in my car mirror at a red light. Red lip gloss worn in a little red car? Ugh, forget about it! But, at the end of the day, it will always be all about the matte. Nevertheless, here’s to trying a new product!

Which Guerlain shade do you like better, Pink Tie or Red Heels? What lip products do you prefer to wear at work? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Swatch In Pink Tie

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Swatch In Pink Tie

Howdy! In my most recent Sephora haul, I chose a fragrance and some little pods of lipstick as my free samples. I love when they have lippie samples as an option, because they are so much fun to try out and swatch for the ol’ blog. Today, we will be looking at one of the two colors that came in my sample pack from Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire collection in Pink Tie. And (Shockingly!) I think I like it! Take a look and let’s discuss:

guerlain1guerlain2guerlain3guerlain4guerlain6

Okay, we all know that I am so not a pink lipstick girl. But, for some reason, I really really like this Guerlain lippie. It reminds me so much of my watermelon pink Clinique Chubby Stick if the color were more prominent and I’m looking forward to experimenting with it. Unfortunately, this color just doesn’t scream winter weather to me, so trying it out will probably involve me putting it on and immediately taking it off. But, I can totally picture Pink Tie being perfect with a darling dress in the spring and some daring short shorts in the summer. This shade is fun, poppy, and it’s not red – that’s for sure.

And, another thing that it’s not: MATTE. We also all know that I’m so not a glossy lipstick girl. But, for some reason, I really really like the shiny punch of pink. The other shade that came in my sample pod is a gorgeous red called Red Heels and I think that that glossy pop is going to be killer for an upcoming Valentine’s Day post. Keep your eyes peeled!

It’s no secret that Sephora’s free samples are the best. It’s always fun to try something new – and it’s always better when you end up liking the new thing that you tried! 😀

Are you a glossy or matte girl? What is the perfect shade of lippie for Valentine’s Day? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Clinique Chubby Stick Swatch In Super Strawberry

Standard
Clinique Chubby Stick Swatch In Super Strawberry

Hiiii! One of my newest obsessions as of late are the Clinique Chubby Sticks. They are a moisturizing lip balm that add a perfect pop of color without having to apply a lipstick. I love using the chubby sticks while I’m working, because I’m basically talking all day during my job and I never have to worry about the balm smearing, getting on my teeth, or making a big red mess while I’m eating. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always be a red lipstick girl but, when you’re on the go constantly, nothing beats a tinted balm.

During my last Sephora haul, I used my Beauty Insider points to snag another chubby stick in Super Strawberry FO FREE. I was yearning for a balm in a red shade and this one hits the spot. Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

supersuper1super2

What I like about the Clinique Chubby Sticks the most is that you’re not just rubbing a sticky gloss on your lips. This balm is insanely hydrating, and that is exactly what I need during these frigid winter months, because my lips chap so easily to the point that they feel completely raw. This is another reason why I have been using these products more frequently than a normal lipstick during work, because nothing sucks away moisture like a lippie clinging onto your lips for dear life all day. The chubby sticks lock in soothing hydration on my lips while still making them very pretty and, the best part, is that I don’t have to constantly reapply it as if I were using a chapstick.

And, speaking of chapstick, this balm doesn’t create one of my biggest pet peeves – the white flecks that form on your lips while using a lip chap. I hate that SO much and I would constantly check if any of that filmy white goop was appearing if all I had on me was a chapstick to apply. Please tell me someone else knows what I’m talking about!

Anyways, lol, I love the Clinique Chubby Sticks and I pretty much want them in every color. That’s not too much to ask for, right? 😀

What product are you currently obsessed with? Who else is a big Clinique fan? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Eyeshadow Review

Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Eyeshadow Review

Hello! Recently, we swatched the Emerald Obsessions palette by Huda Beauty to take a closer look at all of the colors that you can see below. I finally got around to using the emerald glitter eyeshadow the other day and, sadly, it did not go over too well. I wasn’t expecting much from this palette because, as you can remember, all of my reviews were pretty wishy washy. And, in this case, I hate being right because it was such a thoughtful Christmas gift from my sister! I didn’t take any pictures of my MOTD because I was working all day, but here is a reminder of what the palette and that specific shade of eyeshadow looks like:

huda1emeraldemerald1emerald2

^^^ The first heart is the eyeshadow wet and the second one is when it’s dry.

When it comes to makeup, I really do like to keep things fairly simple. I try not to go overboard because I have a lot of facial piercings and tattoos on my body, so heavy makeup often looks too “much”. So, when I am applying my eye makeup, I either use a colored eyeliner or use an eyeshadow as an eyeliner and leave it at that – and it works! When I decided to use my Huda Beauty palette, I knew that I would be lining my eyes with the shadow and that’s about it. 1) I’m bad at doing makeup on my eyelids in general. 2) If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

If you can recall, one of the resounding comments that I made as we swatched the Emerald Obsessions eyeshadow was that it was very dusty. Regardless of whether it was wet or dry, the product was flaky and powdery and it didn’t apply well on my hand – so I don’t know why I thought it would apply well on my eyelids! It took many micellar water Q-tips to clear away all of the eyeshadow that fell onto my face and throughout the day I had to continue wiping away little flecks that had fallen.

By the end of the day, the eyeshadow had completely transferred all over my eyelids, which was a far cry from the lining I had originally started with. I hate when this happens more than anything and I do a great job of preventing this by covering my lids with my Blush On Radiance beads from The Body Shop once my eye makeup is on. But, my tried and true technique didn’t stand a change against the Huda Beauty eyeshadow and my eye makeup looked like I spent a long day partying by the time I got home. Not cute.

If this is how all of the HB eyeshadows are, then I wouldn’t recommend it at all. I quite liked the color that I used, but the quality of the shadow was so low and I was left looking like a hot mess instead of a hottie – not a good look! -___-

What are your thoughts on Huda Beauty products? What is your favorite brand of eyeshadow? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Blush, Baby: Clinique Swatch In Melon Pop Edition

Blush, Baby: Clinique Swatch In Melon Pop Edition

Hi! Clinique is a brand that I’ve grown increasingly fond of as of late. I love their skin care, I’m obsessed with their chubby sticks, and their Pansy Pop blush was my first high end makeup product. So, I was really happy that my sister passed down her Melon Pop blush by Clinique onto me. Their Pop blush collection is such a fun array of bright and springy hues and they offer the perfect pop of color for any MOTD. Take a look and let’s discuss:

melonmelon1melon2melon3melon4melon5

What I love the most about Clinique products is that you know you’re getting the good stuff. It is such a reputable brand and makeup lovers young and old all seem to flock to it at some point or another. I feel pampered when I use Clinique goodies and, even though this blush is used, I know that I am still going to enjoy it as if it were brand new.

Like I mentioned earlier, I love the Clinique Pop collection and Melon Pop is a delicious summery shade fresh out of a chopped fruit salad. Melon Pop is delightfully reminiscent of a juicy cantaloupe, and it has the sweetest hints of pink underneath so that you’re not rubbing straight up orange onto your cheeks. This will be the perfect shade to bust out come springtime with a lovely floral dress or while you’re trying to catch a tan this summer. I can’t wait to use it!

Thanks a lot to my sister, Kristen, for sharing her makeup with me! We swatched a lot of great products and I am looking forward to putting all of them to the test soon! 😀

What is your favorite product that we swatched recently? What is your favorite brand of makeup or skin care? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Ulta Beauty Liquid Illuminator Swatch In Northern Lights

Ulta Beauty Liquid Illuminator Swatch In Northern Lights

Greetings! Today, we are going to take a look at a Liquid Illuminator product by Ulta Beauty in a shade called Northern Lights. I have never tried Ulta’s own brand of makeup and have never felt inclined to, because the reviews that I have seen have always been fairly average. But, this illuminator was handed down to me from my sister, so swatch it we shall. Here we go:

ultaulta1ulta2ulta3ulta4

I have never used a liquid highlighter before, so I don’t know what I was expecting. But, I will say that the texture of this product was really, really thick. Of course, for swatchings sake, I always apply the products more heavily so it can be picked up on the camera. But, regardless of how much I put on, the highlighter felt cakey even when spread across most of the back of my hand.

I actually quite like the idea of this product, and the color and its namesake are kind of fun. But, I don’t think that a liquid illuminator will ever replace a traditional powdered highlighter for me. I can see myself applying this Ulta Beauty illuminator in really small doses around the corner of my eyes, but that’s about it. Anything else would look too unnatural for me, and I don’t like combining something so loud when my favorite thing to rock is a bold lip.

I can’t say that I would recommend the liquid illuminator, but I can see something like this being fun to use in a more costume style approach, so there’s that. Otherwise, I’ll be sticking to regular highlighters!

Would you ever use a product like a liquid illuminator? Do you prefer liquid or traditional makeup? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
