August 2023 Finishes

Hello everyone! I blinked and we are already at the last day of August! The end of the month means that it’s time to discuss my finished beauty and skin care products. This post will be short and sweet because I only used up two – in July I had seven empties to discuss! Let’s take a look at my August Finishes and chat some more because they were both duds lol:

Would I Use Again?

Honest Beauty Vitamin C Radiance Serum: NO

Goop Glow Vita-C Brightening Eye Cream: NO

Why/Why Not?

Honest Serum: This is the second product by Honest Beauty that I have used and I was expecting a bit more from the Vitamin C Radiance Serum. I was most impressed by Honest’s Calm & Heal Melting Balm and was hoping for another rave review. I wanted to like the Vitamin C serum, but it just didn’t do anything for me. I loved its shimmery orange hue and that’s about it. I needed a decent amount of serum to fully cover my face and neck. Despite the bigger bottle, it was finished in under a month. In that time, I noticed no positive changes in my complexion. I suppose my skin looked a tad brighter, but literally any serum can do that. This is one you can definitely skip on.

Goop Glow Eye Cream: I received this product as a freebie during my Sephora Birthday Haul and it was pretty good. This was actually a nice free item to receive because the tiny jar lasted me over two weeks of morning and night use. I did notice the skin around my eyes to be brighter and a lightening in my under eye circles. However, I simply refuse to pay fifty-eight dollars for a full size jar of it. That’s ridiculous and even if it were at TJMaxx it would still be too expensive. It’s another no from me, dawg.

My empties for August were not anything to write home about. That’s okay, though, because they can’t all be winners and whether I like the products or not, it’s always fun to try something new. See you in September!

What products did you finish this month? What are your thoughts on any of the above if you have used them before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

goodhabit Rescue Me Water Jelly Dew Cream Review

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new skin care review on lifewithlilred! Today, we are going to be talking about the Rescue Me Water Jelly Dew Cream by goodhabit. I have been using it for the past month and still have a little ways to go and I have been loving it. Johnny really likes it too and it has treated his forever dry forehead well lol. The only thing we still can’t quite wrap our mind around is the color of this moisturizer! Take a look:

image_50387201(5)image_50438401(6)

I will never forget when I opened this moisturizer for the first time and my first impression was simply “Smurf blue”. I always open a new moisturizer expecting a white or off white color so you could color me surprised when the Water Jelly Dew Cream just wasn’t haha. After the initial shock of all blue everything, I was able to appreciate the delightful aquatic scent this moisturizer has. It is so crisp and refreshing! This product also fully lives up to the name of a Jelly Dew Cream because it feels exactly like jelly and jiggles like it too. 😀

Applying the goodhabit moisturizer is like giving your skin an instant hydration boost. You barely need any of it to fully cover your face and neck – a little goes a very long way, but just a little packs a huge punch. This moisturizer absorbs really fast, sits well under makeup, and my skin has never looked or felt better. My face feels SO insanely soft and it looks fresh and bright… almost as if I am well rested for once in my life! I am going to be so sad once it is all gone and I think Johnny will be too!

If you are on the market for a new moisturizer, I can’t recommend goodhabit’s Rescue Me Water Jelly Dew Cream (that’s a mouthful!) enough. I am hoping that I find more during my next TJMaxx shopping trip because I could imagine it being most helpful for dry skin during the fall and winter!

What is your favorite skin care brand? Have you used any goodhabit products before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister By Joyce Carol Oates Edition

Lil Red’s Book Club: 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister By Joyce Carol Oates Edition

Hello!!! The last few books that we reviewed during Lil Red’s Book Club were massive duds. I didn’t have much hope for 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister by Joyce Carol Oates because I was on such an unlucky streak. However, this book exceeded my expectations and then some. It was EXCELLENT and I devoured it in just three sittings. Without giving away any spoilers, as always, we are going to discuss this mystery further. Before we begin, a trigger warning will be placed for violence, disturbing content, and mental illness. Let’s get to it:

image_50407169(6)

Homely Georgene (G) is nothing like her older sister, Marguerite (M). M is a successful sculptor, she’s beautiful, and has a lust for life. G, on the other hand, is bitter towards everything as she grew up in the shadow of the prettier, more popular sister. April 11th, 1991 is just an ordinary day. M is due to teach at a local college and G will be manning the desk at the post office. Then, G will return to the Tudor mansion she lives in with her father and M to find that her sister is not home.

Concern is immediate as M is nothing if not responsible and prompt. She would never miss classes and scheduled meetings without calling in advance and her colleagues and students are worried from the jump. By the following day, M is still not back and is officially a “missing person”. Leads are scarce with nothing but the path of her heeled boots through the woods to go off of that cut off once a road appears. M has seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Perhaps, the police officers and detectives would have had more to explore if G hadn’t removed M’s calendar and notebooks from her room before their home was searched. As the days since M has gone missing turn to weeks and weeks turn to months, G is even more sick of M than she was when she was still there. Everything is constantly “M, M, M,” even though G is the only remaining daughter. Even in M’s absence, she still is more loved than G.

M and G’s father refuses to give up the hope that M will return one day and goes as far as to hire a very expensive Private Investigator. Meanwhile, G follows other leads like M’s strange colleague at the college, Elke. Elke has all but planted himself into the investigation by alluding that he knows M’s secrets and potentially her whereabouts. But, is Elke just a convenient pawn to play with during a coverup? Did M really just disappear into thin air? That’s for the reader to decide!

48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister was told entirely from G’s perspective and it was wild. G is so clearly mentally disturbed and is constantly threatening people who upset her with strangulation. It is also hinted that she suffered a mental breakdown in the past after her mother’s death. I honestly had no idea what G was going to do or say next and it kept me turning the page ravenously.

Was G a likeable narrator? No. Not at all. I seriously couldn’t stand her. She was mean and bitter to the point of being cruel. She took delight in other people’s despair and it was almost hard to read. Despite G being a horrible person, Joyce Carol Oates’ writing style kept the book moving forward beautifully. It would have been easy to discard this book fairly quickly because of who G is, but I wouldn’t have dreamed of it because it was so well written. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

If you are a fan of creepy mysteries, then I cannot recommend 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister enough. My best advice is to keep an open mind while you read so you can come to a conclusion that you are satisfied with. I will be awarding this book with the coveted ten out of ten stars!

What is your favorite Joyce Carol Oates book? What is your opinion on this book if you have read it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Note that in the following section, I will share who I feel is responsible for M’s disappearance. 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister never reveals a straight answer. If you are interested in reading this book, please skip over this!

Because it was up to the reader to solve the mystery of M’s disappearance, I am okay with sharing my opinion even though it is, technically, a spoiler. I am 150% positive that G killed her sister and this entire book seemed like her covering up rather than searching for clues. There are SO many things that G lets slip throughout the book that come up suddenly and aren’t brought up again. However, each and every one of these instances showed guilt to me and I can’t think of any reason why it wasn’t her.

I would definitely consider all of the potential suspects in this book to be Red Herrings. There is not one piece of evidence throughout the book that led me to believe that anyone else could be guilty. I also find it hard to comprehend why M, whose success in the art world has only just begun, would willingly walk away from the life she built. After finishing this book, I wondered if I had my blinders on so much that I was unwilling to accept another solution. However, if you really read it, it will tell you everything you need to know to solve the case.

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 3

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 3

Hello!! Other than purchasing hand soaps from Bath & Body Works and shopping the occasional Semi-Annual Sale, I really don’t buy anything from there. The remainder of my B&BW stash comes from freebie coupons that get sent out monthly or bimonthly. Because of rarely spending money when I visit the store, it has taken a long time to rack up points for their rewards program. After my Halloween hand soap haul, I finally got a free full size product reward and stopped by to cash it in.

I thought I bought all of the Halloween scents in hand soap form, but I was mistaken. There are actually two other fragrances that I missed – Everlasting Magic and Midnight Spell. Midnight Spell was a massive dud, but I LOVED Everlasting Magic, so I used my rewards points for a body cream:

image_50460673(9)

Everlasting Magic is one of my favorite Halloween scents from B&BW. It’s not as good as Purrfect Pumpkin, but I actually think I might like it more than Vampire Blood. That’s really saying something! Everlasting Magic offers notes of “bejeweled berries, phantom petals, and magic musk”. Normally, I am not a fan of musky fragrances – this one, however, was fine because I really couldn’t smell it! To me, it smelled like rich plum and blackberries with the softest touch of floral. Also, can we talk about how pretty the packaging is?!

As always, I am a huge fan of the Body Cream from B&BW so I was really happy to snag it for free. While I will forever be partial to The Body Shop products, this cream is a close second. With a shea butter base and hyaluronic acid, it is so hydrating and nourishing. My skin feels and looks soft after every use and I think it is one of the best products that B&BW carries. I would definitely recommend getting a bottle for yourself the next time you go shopping! In Everlasting Magic, perhaps? 😀

There were several Halloween scents from B&BW that I didn’t care for at all and I feel like Everlasting Magic was a redemption in that regard. Here’s to waiting another year plus for my next free product reward lol!

What is your favorite B&BW Halloween scent? What is your favorite product they carry? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: Mothered By Zoje Stage Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! Without giving any spoilers away, as always, we will be discussing a horror novel by Zoje Stage called Mothered. When I first started this book, I was LOVING it. However, I was so ready for it to be over about halfway through. You can be the judge if this sounds like something for you because it was not it for me at all. Before we begin, I will be placing a trigger warning on Mothered for murder, violence, disturbing content, and cruelty to animals. Now, let’s get to it:

image_50394881(1)

The COVID-19 pandemic has just hit Pittsburgh and Grace is very down on her luck. She bought her own house a few months back and now she is out of a job as the hair salon she has worked at her entire adult life closes its doors. To add salt to the wound, Grace decides to take her estranged and newly widowed mother, Jackie, up on the offer of moving in and helping with the bills.

Grace has no fond memories of Jackie. Her childhood was spent as the primary caretaker for her twin sister, Hope, who had cerebral palsy while her mom worked multiple jobs to keep a roof over their heads. Grace was an afterthought and Hope reigned supreme in their tiny kingdom. And, after Hope’s death, Grace and her mother barely spoke and they both went their separate ways as soon as Grace turned eighteen.

Although being stuck in the house with Jackie as the pandemic rages on is not an ideal situation, Grace sees its potential merits in bringing them closer together. And, for a few days, it’s not so bad. Grace and Jackie spend their time watching Schitt’s Creek and true crime shows. They even visit Hope’s grave together. Then, the nightmares come.

Every night after the first few days of Jackie’s arrival, Grace is plagued by nightmares. More like night terrors, actually. Many of them bring her back to her childhood with Hope and her absent mom. Others come straight out of a Stephen King book and leave Grace in a cold sweat. Her days are now spent exhausted from lack of good sleep and her paranoia grows that there’s something wrong with her mom. Maybe she is even the one causing the nightmares.

As days at home turn into weeks after Grace and Jackie have a COVID exposure, both mother and daughter begin to take a turn. While Jackie becomes cruel and delirious, Grace can no longer tell the difference between her dreams and real life. But, that is nothing compared to the nightmarish reality that she will soon face. What happens to Grace and Jackie? Read Mothered to find out!

I wanted to like Mothered so badly. I really enjoyed Zoje Stage’s writing style and even though I started turning on this book about halfway through, it was still effortless to turn the pages because it was well written. The story line was interesting and I like books that are set during the pandemic. However, it became so focused on dreams and not the time spent when Grace was awake. It was literally just her sleeping for a majority of the second half and that’s pretty boring. Also, how many times can the “it was all just a dream” psych out be used in a book? It was fine the first few times, then it was excessive.

In terms of characters, I did like Grace for a bit, but she quickly became dull. I didn’t like Jackie right from the jump and that opinion didn’t change. You would think two very mentally unstable people stuck in a house together would have created more tension, but it just wasn’t there. The only character I really enjoyed was Miguel, Grace’s BFF. He was adorable and fun and I would love to have him as a bestie too!

Since finishing Mothered, I have read several reviews from other readers and their sentiments were very similar to my own. While some people loved this read, a majority of them felt that it was lackluster aside from Stage’s writing. I am going to give Mothered a three out of ten stars. I’d like to read Zoje Stage’s other books, but Mothered wasn’t the best introduction to her work and I wouldn’t recommend reading it.

What are you currently reading? What should I read next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Poison Apple Candle By MZ Candles Review

Poison Apple Candle By MZ Candles Review

Hello! If Johnny and I could have, we would have bought ALL of the things from the Punk Rock Flea Market. We both decided, however, that we would limit ourselves to the cash we brought and I am pleased to report we made good on that with some to spare too! Johnny and I held true to our plan by sticking to our “sweet spot” price range of five to fifteen dollars per purchase. One of which included this super cool Poison Apple candle by MZ Candles for just five bucks:

image_50446337(4)image_50396417(5)image_50438145(10)image_50424833(5)

I used to really enjoy burning candles when I first moved into my apartment and pretty much stopped all together. Our old place was so hot that I didn’t need another reminder of it from a dancing flame. Our new digs maintain a much cooler temperature, however, so I couldn’t help but stop at the MZ Candles booth. Merideth Z had candles galore in various sizes, colors, and scents. As always, I am an apple gal and my mind was already made up when I saw the five dollar Poison Apple candle.

The Poison Apple scent smelled exactly like the caramel apple suckers that I love so very much. Also, how cute is the wax skull?! I was expecting a decent amount of fragrance once this candle was lit and, sadly, it wasn’t the case. In fact, I couldn’t smell anything at all as it burned. This was a bit of a bummer, but it didn’t take away from how pleasant it was to have a candle lit during a nonstop rainy afternoon and evening. I also loved how the red skull and green wax melted together into a glittery pool!

Even though I was not blown away from MZ Candles in the scent department, I have been lighting it every day once I’m home from work. There is something so comforting about it and I think I will treat myself to a candle from Bath & Body Works soon!

What is your favorite brand of candles? What is your favorite candle scent? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 2

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 2

Hello!! Yesterday we took a look at my Bath & Body Works hand soap haul featuring the Halloween collection. As you recall, I was loving Purrfect Pumpkin and Spellbinding Sweets. Moonlit Graveyard did nothing for me, however, which is strange because the name really speaks to my spooky soul. Let’s see how our next batch of scents fairs:

image_50436097(8)image_50431745(6)

The Haul:

Purrfect Pumpkin

Moonlit Graveyard

Spellbinding Sweets

Ghoul Friend

Wicked Vanilla Woods

Vampire Blood

Afternoon Apple Picking

Ghoul Friend: Ghoul Friend and Vampire Blood are scents that I’m familiar with as they were available last year too. Despite purchasing Ghoul Friend for the sake of Halloween, I am not a huge fan. This scent offers notes of “dark strawberries, ghostly peony, and spine-chilling citrus”. It’s nice if you are into super sweet florals but, alas, I am not. The peony paired with strawberries is almost sickly sweet and actually might be my least favorite of the bunch, moving Moonlit Graveyard up a notch.

Wicked Vanilla Woods: Hmmm… close but not quite. I was expecting to love this fragrance because I love vanilla when it’s done right. This one just kind of missed the mark for me. The fragrance notes feature “magical vanilla, glowing amberwood, and enchanted pink pepper”. While I do get a nice whiff of vanilla, the amberwood and pink pepper turn it into something really musky. Dare I say, old lady-ish? Not good.

*Note that I am smelling these soaps in real time and yesterday’s batch is definitely doing better so far!

Vampire Blood: Okay! Now we’re talking! I was very fond of Vampire Blood last year and my sentiments remain the same. Vampire Blood’s description is “red berries, night-blooming jasmine, and petrifying plum”. This is a berry/floral fragrance done right. While Ghoul Friend felt like the strawberries and peony were competing with each other, the berries, plum, and jasmine of Vampire Blood complimented each other perfectly. There is a reason this scent was brought back and it delivers every time.

Afternoon Apple Picking: Lol, this just might be my favorite one from the post and it’s not a Halloween fragrance. Is that bad? I am an apple gal and Afternoon Apple Picking is a delight. With notes of “crisp apple, succulent pear, and cinnamon” this one gave me ALL the fall feels! Imagine strolling through an apple orchard on a crisp fall day and taking a deep, refreshing breath. That’s this scent! 20/10 would recommend!

This post was a bit of a bummer because I was expecting a lot better from Bath & Body Works’ Halloween line. My ranking is as follows:

Purrfect Pumpkin

Vampire Blood

Spellbinding Sweets

Moonlit Graveyard

Ghoul Friend

Wicked Vanilla Woods

My advice? If you are craving the Halloween collection as much as I was – do a smell test before buying. Some of these scents were massive duds!

How do you feel about the B&BW Halloween scents? What is your favorite fall fragrance? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 1

Hello! My reserves of hand soap from Bath & Body Works was running dangerously low and it couldn’t have happened at a better time – Halloween fragrances are in! This trip into B&BW was a quick one because, for once, I truly didn’t care about the way the soaps smelled. I was so ready for all things Halloween that I took one of each scent and hit the road. I wasn’t going to not because the packaging for this year’s spooky collection is fantastic!

Today, we’re going to talk about three of the scents and move onto the remaining four tomorrow. Let’s get started:

image_50436097(8)image_50431745(6)

The Haul:

Purrfect Pumpkin

Moonlit Graveyard

Spellbinding Sweets

Ghoul Friend

Wicked Vanilla Woods

Vampire Blood

Afternoon Apple Picking – Granted not a Halloween scent, but I love all things apple! 😀

Purrfect Pumpkin: I am not a huge fan of pumpkin and if you haven’t already guessed, apple is my go to fall fragrance and flavor. However, I am LOVING Purrfect Pumpkin and it is just right for those who can’t get into pumpkin spice and everything nice. This scent features notes of “carved pumpkin, spiced cinnamon, and moonlit vanilla”. To me, it smells more like a glass of warm apple cider. It’s spicy and a little bit sweet and this is a fragrance that perfectly embodies the fall season. I wish I had it as a candle to light during scary movie nights!

Moonlit Graveyard: The Moonlit Graveyard scent is just okay for me. This was one of the ones I was ambivalent about when I read the description of “tombstone moss, cold foggy air, and eerie incense”. Even though that does sound awesome! While it does sort of remind me of a crisp fall night, my weird nose picked up an almost powdery aroma and I really don’t like that. This is one that I would have skipped on if I did a sniff test, but my potion… I mean hand soap set wouldn’t have been complete without it.

Spellbinding Sweets: Now this one, is much more like it! This scent offers notes of “haunted lollipop, sweet bubblegum, and bewitched berries” and I am so there for it. I didn’t pick up any of the featured notes but bubblegum and that is fine by me. It smells exactly like Double Bubble and brings me back to the excitement of Trick-or-Treat night. It is such a nostalgic scent and anyone with or without a sweet tooth will enjoy it. I also love the wicked green apple color. ❤

Other than Moonlit Graveyard, I am most impressed with Purrfect Pumpkin and Spellbinding Sweets. The fun colors of the soap and the amazing stained glass artwork make all three even better, though! Tune in tomorrow for the rest of the Halloween scents!

What is your favorite holiday collection from B&BW? Have you gotten any of the Halloween scents yet? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask Review

Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask Review

Hello! During a TJMaxx Mini Haul in February, I purchased the Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask. However, I only started using it in July because I am forever obsessed with my Pacifica lip balms. The packaging for the Dr. Paw Paw mask (lol at the name) promised softening, smoothing, and plumping for lips and I thought that all sounded great. And, it was great, until it wasn’t. Let’s discuss:

image_50433537(6)image_50404353(3)image_50409473(5)

When I first started using the lip mask, I was applying it every night before bed and was moderately impressed with the results. I honestly didn’t see any difference in softness or smoothness, but I did notice that my lips looked plumper. Granted, the plumping effect diminished throughout the day but it was definitely there in the morning. I thought that was really cool and I still had my Pacifica balms to assist in the smoothness department.

The Dr. Paw Paw mask quickly became a staple in my nighttime routine, until things took a drastic turn. One morning, I woke up and my lips were on fire. They were burning, highly sensitive, and cracks were forming. I slathered my lips with my balm throughout the day, but nothing eased the pain I was feeling. My lips actually didn’t go back to normal until two or so days later.

I honestly thought that the sensation I was feeling was a fluke because the mask was working so well before. So, I tried it one more time and the exact same thing happened. I haven’t used it since. When I looked up reviews for this product, it was a draw between people raving about it or saying they had similar results to mine. What I find interesting is that there is no disclaimer on the packaging to discontinue use if you are experiencing burning or pain. This seems like something that should be included if people are online writing reviews about it!

In good conscience, I can’t recommend this product because in the words of Napoleon Dynamite: “My lips hurt real bad”. If you try the Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask, you might have great results or your lips will be burning. You’ve been warned!

Have you used this product or a similar one before? What did you think about it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: Never Never By Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher Edition

Lil Red’s Book Club: Never Never By Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher Edition

Hello everyone!! We have a busy week here on lifewithlilred! There is much to do like peep my All Dolled Up OOTD and bloopers for the Barbie movie and discuss July beauty finishes. But, not until after a new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! Today, we are going to be reviewing Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher. If you recall, I read Hoover’s Verity and thought it sucked on ice. I decided to give Colleen Hoover books one more try during a mad dash to the library and Never Never was fine. Not my favorite, but certainly better than Verity!

Before we begin, I will be placing a trigger warning on Never Never for general violence and mildly disturbing content. Now, let’s get to it – without giving any spoilers away:

image_50452481(2)

Silas and Charlie are a modern day Romeo and Juliet. They are two high school seniors deeply in love, but their families despise each other. Silas and Charlie’s dads ran a financial company that was ran into the ground through fraudulence. The blame game was played between them and when Silas and Charlie refused to pick sides, they were forbidden to see each other. Of course, that wasn’t going to happen and the two youngsters continued their relationship – parents be damned.

Although Silas and Charlie shared their entire lives together through their family ties, their relationship changes. While Charlie’s dad went to prison for losing a lot of people a lot of money, Silas’s dad got off scot free. This drove a huge wedge between the couple, but is nothing compared to the changes they are about to go through. At eleven in the morning at school, Charlie and Silas can no longer remember who they are or anything about their lives. Not even their names.

Throughout the school day, they rely on people who are supposedly their friends to get them to their classes. And, at lunch, Charlie and Silas learn that they were once together… Or still are? They have no idea. They just know that something strange is happening to the both of them and it is up to the duo to figure it out. By reading old notes and journal entries, Silas and Charlie learn the story of their lost love and search for answers…

And just when they are onto something, they lose their memories again two days later. Is this going to happen to them for the rest of their lives? Charlie and Silas hunt for clues where ever they can – at a tarot shop, in their lockers, even visiting Charlie’s dad in prison. Everything they learn about themselves is helpful, but tells them nothing. Maybe, they just aren’t looking in the right place. Will Charlie and Silas regain their memories? Will love conquer all in the end? Read Never Never to find out!

As I read Never Never, I liked it. Then, I finished the book and I felt very underwhelmed. It was an okay book, just not great? The story line was interesting enough and it was a nice touch for Silas and Charlie to continue to lose their memories every two days. However, it all felt very 50 First Dates after a while – just the teenage version. I really liked certain parts in the book, but as a whole it left me unimpressed.

Part of the reason why I didn’t like the book was because I couldn’t get into Charlie’s character. I adored goofy, caring Silas but Charlie’s harshness became one note very quickly. Yes, she came around in the end but she lacked development throughout the book and when she finally came around it felt too late. This is the first book that I have read from a teenage perspective in a long time and it was annoying, honestly. Love struck teens being torn apart from their families is so been there done that and if you are going to write a book about it… I don’t know… Be better? lol

Overall, I am going to rate Never Never with a three out of ten stars. This uninspired plot did nothing for me and one of the main characters was a massive drag. This is definitely one that you can skip, unless you are looking for a light read!

How do you feel about Colleen Hoover books? What should I read next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
