Dancing With The Stars – Week 6

Twas a fantastic Latin filled night on Dancing With The Stars tonight, AKA Middle Aged Monday, AKA MAM. There were a lot of hits and a lot of misses with our stars tonight, so let’s talk about some of the routines that I loved:

Jonathan & Allison (Jazz): This Men in Black themed routines was so much FUN! What a major improvement from the teams herky jerky Jive last week. Jonathan was sharp and each move was on point. Allison’s choreography was really fantastic as well, so shout out to her. There was some really cool fight scene inspired moves that I really appreciated. And can we talk about the lifts?! So clean! Jonathan had Allison in hold and he was NOT letting go. Not once did I worry that she was going to get dropped in the middle of a lift like I did last week. Unfortunately, sweet Jonathan’s improvement was too little too late, as he got eliminated tonight – but I commend him for this performance just the same. It was very, very grool. 🙂

Alfonso & Witney (Salsa): First of all, DYING over Alfonso stating that “I hurt my groin doing the Carlton”. Not laughing at his injury of course, that’s a shame, and I hope he recovers soon BUT I just think it’s so goofy that Alfonso got hurt from Calton-ing just a little too hard! I really just love Witney and Alfonso as a team in general. I think Witney is the most precious little thing in the world and her choreography is so fun and fresh. This Salsa was a booty-licious routine, but I do agree with Judge Julianne Hough on the fact that it was a little too much hip hop and not enough Salsa. In further performances I would love to see Witney delve deeper into more traditional routines, because Alfonso is so capable of doing them – as we could see last week during the switch up with Cheryl. You can see their Flamenco routine below:

Sadie & Mark (Rumba): Alright. Everyone who follows my blog knows that I don’t care for Sadie OR her family. However, this Rumba was FANTASTIC. I thought it was so sweet and I applaud Mark for choreographing the dance to make it so. Sadie’s lines in this routine was just gorgeous. Her limbs are so long that it looked like they reached for miles. Carrie Anne said that the teams Rumba was age appropriate, and I completely agree. Sadie is seventeen, if I’m not mistaken, and I thought that this dance was just lovely for a young woman.

Now, onto the dances that I didn’t care for, starting with:

Antonio & Cheryl (Salsa): Through out this entire season, I’ve never really been “blown away” by Antonio. This Salsa was kind of slow for me, and I feel like this season’s heart throb is just so stiff and uncomfortable in his dancing. He had the opportunity tonight to let loose and dance a sexy routine with the gorgeous Cheryl, and it just fell short. In other news, well wishes to Cheryl’s dad who suffered a seizure this past week. Good thoughts are being sent the Burke family’s way!

Lea & Artem (Salsa): There were some parts of this routine that were really fabulous. Specifically the lifts! Lea looked like an acrobat in Artem’s arms and she made it look so easy. So for that, you go girl! Having said that, and in agreement with the judges, Lea looked SO uncomfortable during this Salsa. Her face looked like a deer in headlights and there were some really awkward parts during this performance. When Lea separated into her solo with a bevy of female dancers, she did this really weird squatting move where she basically lifted her skirt up. Not cute. Not classy.

Tommy & Peta (Foxtrot): Don’t get me wrong, I love Tommy – I really do. But these past few weeks he’s been slipping. The judges unanimously agreed that Tommy improved from his disastrous switch up routine last week – and he did…but not by much. This performance was filled with missteps and mistakes that made their Foxtrot look quite choppy, rather than a continuous flow of movement. This opinion doesn’t take away from how much respect I have for Tommy though, he’s seventy-six years old and still doing the damn thing! I also have to add, that Miss Peta looked drop dead GORGEOUS tonight in her fuchsia dress! What a stunner. AND Cloris Leachman’s cameo in Tommy’s rehearsal package was hysterical! Too funny.

What did everyone think of tonight’s routines? What was your favorite performance? What was your least favorite? Did Jonathan deserve to go home in tonight’s elimination? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight:) -Sarah

American Horror Story – Episode 2

American Horror Story – Episode 2

American Horror Story Freak Show brought the heat last night in episode two “Massacres and Matinees”. A lot of really interesting characters made their debut this episode. We have the lovely Miss Angela Bassett from season three’s Coven returning as Diseree Dupree. Dupree is a full fledged hermaphrodite, sporting three breasts and both male and female reproductive organs. With Diseree came her husband, Dell Toledo (Michael Chiklis) the “strong man”. When Elsa asked Dell Toledo what he was after his wife revealed her….condition, Toledo stated “the happiest man on earth”. Ha! SPOILER ALERT: Dell Toledo was revealed as the father of Jimmy Darling and ex-husband to Kathy Bate’s Ethel Darling. I’m SO excited for this secret to be revealed to Jimmy, because Dell has already wreaked a lot of havoc on him in just one episode. Elsa wanted Dell in the freak show troupe to be the new male leader – which has the potential to ruin Jimmy’s alpha dog status amongst the cast. Another set of characters who were introduced to us in the season premiere but played a more important role in Massacres and Matinees was Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock) and his mother Gloria, played by the fabulous Frances Conroy. I’ll actually be going into both of these characters in greater detail when I list my favorite parts of last nights episode.

AHSFS_Frances.jpg_cmyk.jpg

Things I liked about last Massacres and Matinees:

  • Gloria Mott: I absolutely ADORED her character. Gloria is the EPITOME of the desperate mother who will do anything to please her son. Her willingness to do anything to make Dandy happy is palpable. This woman is desperate enough to keep her son under her thumb that while driving she picks up everyone’s favorite Twisty the Clown who happens to be ambling about on the country road. She tells Twisty she’ll pay him handsomely if he’ll come home to entertain Dandy. BAD IDEA!!! There was one particular scene that really stood out to me last night and it was between Gloria and her son at dinner. Dandy used the word “boring” a lot in this scene, and it really defined him as the bratty poor little rich boy that he is. He stated that the escargot at dinner was boring, the town was boring, life was boring and then stormed of. Once he left the maid confided in Gloria that she found remains of animals by the shed and lightly accused Dandy of being involved with the murders happening in town. To which Gloria replied in tears, “he’s just bored.” Brilliant.

AHSFS_Finn.jpg_cmyk.jpg

  • Dandy Mott: I’m totally loving AHS newcomer Finn Wittrock’s performance so far. Dandy truly is a man child – finding delight in toys, carnivals, and drinking liquor out of a glass baby bottle nipple and all. After leaving dinner with his mother in a huff, Dandy runs off to the only place he feels like he belongs….the freak show. Unfortunately for him after a tear filled pleading session to Jimmy, he is denied a spot in the troupe. Jimmy is actually quite disgusted by Dandy – telling him he should thank god for what he has – his normality in particular. To this, Jimmy replies that he’s normal on the outside but is just like the freak show members on the inside. This boy is twisted. Speaking of twisted, it appears that Dandy has a new BFF in Twisty the Clown. There’s a really delightful scene in episode two where we see Dandy and the clown in a room full of toys belonging to the man child. Dandy prompts Twisty to show him some tricks to no reply. He then utters to Twisty my favorite line of the episode “your silence is provocative”. Loved it! He then shows Twisty a chest of toys and demands him to entertain. While Twisty rummages through the toys, a curious Dandy begins reaching for the bag that Twisty carries with him everywhere. With that, Twisty whacks Dandy in the head with a bowling pin, grabs the bag, and runs off.

AHSFS_Angela.jpg_cmyk.jpg

  • The scene in the diner: This scene was FABULOUS. Sweet and gorgeous Jimmy Darling rounds up the troupe and takes them to the diner where we see him getting his flirt on with the waitress in episode one. Jimmy’s idea behind this is to show the world that the freak show members are just like “regular people”. There was something so touching to me about this idea that Jimmy had. He had such innocent intentions, but unfortunately it went wrong. And I shall continue talking about this in the things I didn’t like about episode two.

Things I didn’t like about Massacres and Matinees:

  • There was actually only one thing that I didn’t like about this episode, and that was the evil Dell Toledo ruining the troupe outing at the diner. While hanging fliers for the freak show he happens to see his cast mates seated at the diner. At this point, things aren’t going too well for the troupe either – the locals that are eating are extremely put off by the freak show crew. Complete with people leaving, dirty looks being thrown in their direction, and a mother asking the troupe if they could eat somewhere else because they’re upsetting her daughter. Dell comes rolling into the restaurant demanding that the troupe leaves. He then proceeds to take Jimmy outside to make an example of him by beating him senseless. The main reason why this upset me, is because I’m madly in love with Evan Peters and every character that he plays, so I hate seeing him get hurt. Swoon. ❤

AHSFS_Michael.jpg_cmyk.jpg

Of course the most shocking part of the episode is the reveal of what’s under Twisty the Clown’s mask. In Massacres and Matinees we meet up once again with Twisty’s hostages – a lovely young woman and an eight to ten year old boy. Our heroine manages to pull off one of the wooden boards filled with nails that’s keeping the door of the van that they’re kept in shut. When Twisty lumbers into the car to “entertain” his guests by pulling a decapitated head out of his bag of goodies, our girl smacks Twisty with all her might with the board. Twisty’s smiling face mask is knocked off in the process revealing this:

gasp

Need I say more? It’s no wonder Twisty’s silence is so provocative to Dandy….there’s no way the clown can speak! And speaking of our man child, his role in Freak Show is only just beginning. Once Dandy wakes up from the unconsciousness the bowling pin whack left on him, he sets out to find Twisty, and stumbles upon the clowns camp where the van is located. Our hostages manage to run out of the van to possible freedom, when our heroine runs full force into Dandy. She tells him that the clown is going to kill her and things of that nature, and then the light bulb goes off in his head. He hoists the girl into his arms and playfully sing songs “Clown! I have something for youuuu!!” We now have a dynamic duo: a murderous clown and a man child with a love for vaudeville. Episode three can’t come soon enough!

How did you guys feel about Massacres and Matinees? What did you like? What did you hate? Were you as appalled as the rest of the world when Twisty’s face was revealed? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

American Horror Story – Season Premiere

American Horror Story – Season Premiere

So as all of you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with American Horror Story, and last night was the season premiere of season four. I must say, I was quite impressed. Let’s start with the good of the premiere. I deeply enjoyed the fabulous Miss Sarah Paulson as Bette and Dot the conjoined twins. The girls are pretty much yin and yang, with polar opposite personalities. Bette is a wide eyed sweet heart with a passion for movies on the big screen, while Dot contributes as her cynical pessimistic counter part. I thought it was really interesting in the first ten minutes of the premiere how Elsa (Jessica Lange) appeared in double vision on screen while talking to the twins. It was a very cool visual move.

AHSFS_Sarah.jpg_cmyk.jpg

Another member of the crew of Freak Show who I instantly fell in a terrified love with was Twisty the Clown, as pictured below. Don’t get too scared!

twisty

Twisty gives a hell of a debut in this premiere. One episode in and he’s murdered at least four people in an absolutely gruesome manner of maniacal stabbing. There was one particular scene that really stuck out to me, which involved a young boy and a twenty something female who he kidnapped that he’s currently holding hostage in a van. He walked into the vehicle and began performing tricks for his victims, but with every sudden movement he made, it put the boy and girl into visible terror whether it be by shaking or screaming. There was something SO powerful to me about this, because it really classified Twisty as a monster to me, which is what I’ve been waiting for AHS to dabble in for a long time. The show has never really had a true scary to look at, sends shivers down your spine villain. The fact that these victims found pure fear in the clown simply making a balloon animal was interesting and intriguing to watch. It just shows how much of an effect his mere presence has and will have on this show. I’m thrilled to find out the back story on Twisty and what made him the way he is. I’m also really interested in what lies beneath his smiling mask, because according to articles I’ve read about him, something even more terrifying lies underneath.

Now, onto some things I didn’t appreciate all that much:

1) Elsa’s accent. Jessica Lange is phenomenal. We know this. However, it was beyond difficult to understand her thick German accent at some points during the show. I really wish I had subtitles while watching – that’s how hard of a time I had understanding her. Some of her dialogue was so quiet too that her voice ended up sounding very muffled. I’m really hoping that this is something that gets better as the season progresses, because Elsa is half of the show! I need her to be audible, damnit!

2) The EXTREMELY awkward scene where Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) fingers a girl with his lobster like hands at a party. I felt it was so tasteless and inappropriate. Nothing about that scene had anything to do with Jimmy as a character at all. Of course, AHS is known for pushing the envelope on all of their seasons – but to me, this was just vulgar.

AHSFS_Evan.jpg_cmyk.jpg

3) The Freak Show orgy. This was DISGUSTING. The gist of this was shown on a projector in black and white for at least two minutes, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. That’s really all I’m going to say about it. I think there’s a way to do certain things tastefully and dare I say artistically, but this was pure vulgarity. (which is really the only word I can think of to describe seeing stuff like this on television.)

It’s not like the things I didn’t care for about this episode “Monsters Among Us” over shadowed all of the good though. It really was a bang up premiere, which has left people talking (clearly!) and that’s exactly what the producers want. They wanted something that pushed the envelope, sparked conversation, and left people eager for the new episodes – and they did just that. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this season holds in store for us, because the premiere set the stage for a lot of crazy stuff to happen. There are still many characters to introduce as well, so I’m excited to meet all of them and start getting a feel for their back story.

Where are my AHS fans at? How did you feel about the season premiere? What did you like? What did you hate? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Dancing With The Stars – Week 4!

Dancing With The Stars – Week 4!

It was a solid Middle Aged Monday tonight as we entered week four in Dancing With The Stars. Tonight was the “most memorable year” theme, and there were quite a few dances that really moved me. One of them being Lea Thompson’s Contemporary dance to honor her father. The story of her dance was extremely touching. The year that was most memorable for Thompson was the year of her father’s passing. Herself and her family found out that he had a cancer that spread basically everywhere in his body, and he only had about a week to live. On each day of this week, the family celebrated his birthday, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. On the final night of the Christmas celebration, Lea’s father got himself up from his seat and began dancing with her. While Thompson told this story in her package, I cried like a baby. This was SO moving to me, and even more so, as I had my father by my side while watching this. (As you know in my previous posts I mention watching DWTS with my daddy.) I don’t particularly care for Lea Thompson, but this performance definitely was beautifully done, and I really appreciated it. With an almost perfect score of 39, it appears everyone else enjoyed it too! Another dance that I found very emotionally driven and lovely was Janel Parrish’s Rumba to honor her mentor and friend who passed from breast cancer. Usually I don’t care for any of the slower dances performed on DWTS, bring on the sassy sambas and cha chas, but tonight was filled with such beautiful stories that it was hard to ignore these tributes. Miss Parrish can MOVE! The lines in her dancing and the shapes she creates are really stunning – and she looked like an absolute angel tonight. So so gorgeous. One person who I’m particularly sick of this season is Sadie Robertson of the Duck Dynasty family. Lord have mercy on me. Her and her family kind of make me sick. She mentions her father having to approve all of her costumes and whatnot almost every episode – but I’m not really sure how her dad can approve of his daughter gyrating up a storm on national television. It’s actually quite hypocritical. But that’s all I’m going to say about it, because I could voice my opinions on the views of that family for hours. The lovely Miss Betsey Johnson was eliminated tonight, which was so sad! I absolutely love her. Miss girl can move for being 72 years old!!! She was such a bundle of life and joy, and she was so much fun to watch. I definitely applaud her dancing and her vivacious spirit! It was definitely a fun Middle Aged Monday, and I’m looking forward to the celebrity switch up next week!

Where are all of my DWTS fans at? How did you feel about tonights’ episode? Who are your favorites? Who do you hope gets eliminated next week? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight. -Sarah

The Strain – Season Finale!!!!

Standard
The Strain – Season Finale!!!!

The season finale of FX’s The Strain aired last night, and it was fantastic! Minus a few flaws through out the season, I thought it was a really solid effort. Last nights finale ended pretty much identical to how it did in the first book of The Strain trilogy, so it was nice how they stayed true to that. I’ve learned to look past the god awful makeup for The Master, as I know that once he sheds his newly injured body in lieu of a new vampire follower, we’ll never have to look at the stupid muppet makeup again! There’s a few things about the television series that I didn’t care for:

1) I absolute HATE that blonde Brit chick. WHO IS SHE?! In the book she’s basically non existent. It’s so obvious that she’s a “fill in” character to give the show a bit more diversity or what have you – but either way: she’s annoying. Get rid of her for season two please and thank you!

2) The casting choice for Zack. That kid is lame. In the books Zack is fairly tough and is no where near as sensitive as they make him on the show. The kid can’t act to save his life from a vampire attack either. It sounds like he’s reading from a script the whole time. There’s a million of capable child actors that could play this part, and unfortunately their choice is not one of them.

3) The choice of communication for the vampires. WHY IN TARNATION ARE THEY TALKING?! In the book, the vamps strictly communicate via telekinesis and it was SO much more effective than actually seeing them speak. I’m specifically referencing The Master and Quinlin, of course. The thought of hearing vamps speak in your head really gave me a sense of unease whenever I would read it in the trilogy. The choice to have them actually vocalize was a disappointing one.

4) Nora’s mother. She was insanely annoying – and that’s all I’m going to say about that, because anyone reading this probably already thinks I’m insensitive for calling the actor who plays Zack lame 🙂

For those of you who have read my previous posts on The Strain – you’ll already know how I feel about The Masters makeup (lord have mercy on me) so I didn’t feel the need to put that as the obvious number one on my list of bothersome flaws on the show. All in all though, this was a FANTASTIC effort of a first season. The first book in The Strain trilogy which is what this season was based on, was absolutely jam packed with detail. The production team did a really good job of remaining fairly true to the book, and I applaud them on that. The season finale was a good one – full of suspense. It also left at a really nice cliff hanger to keep us excited for season two, which will air in 2015. I don’t wanna wait that long though!!!!

Where are all of my fans of The Strain at? How did you feel about this season? What did you like? What did you hate? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Lazy Sunday

Lazy Sunday

It’s a chilly 49 degrees in Akron, Ohio right now. Fall is definitely here. Today is the perfect dreary day to light some candles, get cozy in some sweats, and be a homebody. I’ve had my iTunes playing all morning while tidying up the house in sock feet and there was something so calming and peaceful about it – being home alone and hearing the music echo throughout the quiet rooms and having the aroma from my fall scented candles fill the house. A lazy day is the perfect way to cure the hangover blues (see my previous post Being “That Girl” for more on that incident!) I’m ready for catching up on my lame celebrity gossip magazines and watching some shitty reality TV. I’ve been on the go this past week, from job interviews to college preparations, so it’s so nice to have a day to myself. Speaking of job interviews and college prep – pleeease send me some good vibes! I have my final interview at Family Video and a pretty important college counseling appointment coming up this week so keep your fingers and toes crossed! For those of you who have been keeping up with my posts, you’ll know that Sunday is the day for my TV obsession, The Strain. IT’S THE SEASON FINALE TONIGHT!!!! I’m so excited I can barely even handle it, ten o’clock can’t come soon enough!!! Definitely expect a post either immediately after or tomorrow morning on my views on the finale! I know I always thank you guys for reading my posts, but here’s another friendly thank you! I’ve gotten over five hundred views on my blog that hasn’t even been up for a month yet – that’s awesome! The likes, comments, and follows are much appreciated so keep them coming! ❤ I applaud all of you out here on wordpress-land – there’s so much talent! I might have mentioned this before, but I always try to read as many posts as I can before bed each day, and you guys can write!

Hope you all have a fantastic Sunday. What are you guys up to for the day? Are you getting chilly fall weather where ever you’re at right now? Stay warm if you are! -Sarah

Parks and Rec! My favorite:)

Parks and Rec! My favorite:)

My mom and I are absolutely in love with the show Parks and Recreation. We binge watched up to season five and were SO disappointed to have to wait for such a long time to see season six, as it only came out on Netflix and DVD a few days ago. Lucky for us, we finally snagged the DVD set from the library, and have been watching our usual two episodes per night, just like before! My P&R time with my mom is very similar to my Dancing With the Stars time with my dad (see previous posts!). It’s our special time with each other, where we don’t have to think or do anything other than laugh. We love the cast of the show so very much. I’ll be honest, I used to despise Amy Poehler before I started watching Parks. I found her quite annoying. But after spending six seasons with her on this show, I adore her. She’s the cutest little thing ever! I love how passionate her character, Leslie Knope is about her job and her coworkers. I find it so adorable just how much she goes above and beyond for all of the members of the Parks team. Leslie Knope is thoughtful and goofy! Poehler is just fantastic at portraying this. Another fan favorite of ours is Rob Lowe as Chris Traeger. (Anne Perkins!) This guy cracks me up! Everything said by Traeger is either funny or indirectly funny because of his delivery. Seriously every time he opens his mouth it puts my mom and I in stitches. The chemistry between the cast is really something special. They also have a great script to work with as well. The writing on Parks is sharp and quick. I love the different types of humor it touches on, everything from sarcasm, satire, to complete silliness. Even the smallest backhanded comments on each episode pack a humorous punch. I’m looking forward to watching more of season six. My partner in crime and I are on episode five and so far so good!

If you haven’t watched Parks and Recreation, I can’t recommend it enough. Fantastic writing, a solid story line, and an all star cast including Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, and Adam Scott to name a few. Did I forget to mention Guardians of the Galaxy super star Chris Pratt is on the show too?! He’s a trip. Here’s a few snippets of some funny moments from the show:

Where are all of my Parks and Rec fans on here? What’s your favorite episode? (Mine is the Sexual Education epi on season 5!) Who’s your favorite character? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight! -Sarah

A Special Night

A Special Night

Family is so important to me. Monday nights always hold a special place in my heart because it’s when I get my cherished one on one time with my dad. And it’s no secret that I’m the ultimate daddy’s girl. Monday nights (AKA Middle Aged Monday – AKA MAM) is when I get a full two hours just for me and my dad when we watch Dancing With the Stars together. It’s been a tradition of ours for years now, and it’s time that I wouldn’t trade for all the money in the world. Every Monday night like clockwork at eight o’clock we settle into the living room with our snacks and soda and indulge in our television guilty pleasure of DWTS. Every season we tell each other we’re not gonna get sucked into watching…and every season we find ourselves glued to the tv set every Monday night. It’s always so fun to be daddy’s little girl and cuddle up next to him, laugh at all the commentary, and tell each other “I could do that” to all the moves in the routines. During commercial breaks we dance around the living room and recap the just performed dances. We comment on all the racy costumes and snicker at all the dances that we declare “I could have done better than that!” I love it when my dad is goofy with me, and I love seeing him laugh and enjoy himself. One on one time with each of my parents is so special to me, and it’s memories like Monday night tv time that I’m going to cherish for forever. Simple things like watching a television program with my dad or going on a quick shopping trip with my mom hold very dear to my heart, and I’m so lucky that I can indulge in time with one or both of my parents whenever I want. I’m so thankful that for my entire twenty years of life, I’ve truly been a mama and daddy’s girl. I’m feeling incredibly grateful right now. It’s so nice to be able to look forward to Monday night tv every week and to have the two hour daddy daughter hang out exceed expectations. My DWTS time with my dad is the equivalent of a daddy daughter dance to me, and how lucky am I that I get to attend a daddy daughter dance every week. I am content. I am thankful. Have an amazing night guys. Be well. -Sarah

American Horror Story Excitement!!!!

Standard
American Horror Story Excitement!!!!

I seriously can’t even handle my excitement for season four of American Horror Story! October 8th can’t come soon enough!!! I’m banking on AHS: Freak Show to be one of the best seasons yet. I’m not gonna lie, Coven deeply disappointed me, so I’m hoping this rebound season will blow me out of the water. It was a matter of time before AHS did a season set in a carnival, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what unique twists and turns they can bring into a somewhat classic setting. Speaking of twists, I’m already scared for this season’s antagonist Twisty the Clown. According to the creators of the show, they didn’t particularly want to do a clown, because it’s so over done. But then they came to the agreement that if they were to do a clown, it was going to be the scariest one of all time. Apparently they did a fantastic job of making him scream worthy, because two camera men reported to have nightmares after finishing filming scenes with Twisty. I’m really excited to have what seems to be a genuinely scary villain in the show, both in their actions and visually. Papa Legba from Coven was probably the closest thing they’ve had to fit that description thus far, and even he wasn’t that frightening. Twisty the Clown sounds to be more like a monster, which is what makes me both nervous as hell and thrilled! I’m interested to see what they’re going to do to make classic carnival characters like the conjoined twins, the strong man, and the bearded lady fresh and new. Because we already know there’s going to be nothing classic about these characters. There appears to be a really strong cast of actors, minus one – Emma Roberts. I absolutely CAN NOT stand her. Her acting is mediocre at best, and even that’s generous considering she’s surrounded by such high caliber actors like Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Dennis O’Hare. If she could stick to acting on Nickelodeon, that would be great. Besides, it’s so obvious she got cast in the show because of her high status man candy Evan Peters. SO BITTER. I’m so excited for Miss Lange to absolutely KILL IT, as the carnival ring leader. I’m sure every AHS fan called this casting choice as soon as the season theme was revealed, but it’s still really cool just the same. Her take charge personality and sassy snark is going to make for one hell of a ring leader. Let’s be honest, Jessica Lange can do no wrong anyways.

What is everyone looking forward to the most about Freak Show? What was your favorite season of American Horror Story so far? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

The Strain – part two!

Standard
The Strain – part two!

It’s no secret to my followers on here that I’m a bit of a TV show fanatic. My recent obsession has been The Strain, on FX. I deeply enjoyed reading the trilogy penned by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo Del Toro, and the show has been smooth sailing up until the MAJOR makeup disappointment this week. Any of you who watch the show will hopefully know I’m referring to the SHAMEFUL display of makeup on The Master, as seen below:

thestrain

LORD HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!!! I could have done a better makeup job than that!!!!!!!!!! If any of you have read the trilogy, you’ll know that The Master sounds absolutely horrifying. His looks can only be described as a nightmare come to life. Very often in the book his face is masked by a cloak, which can be seen in my featured image, but when his face is shown, the characters are known to stop in their tracks and stare into his eyes….essentially staring into death. The books leave the descriptions of his appearance fairly vague, because he can jump from one host body to the next at will. The unknown is what makes him so scary. At this point in the television series his host body is a seven foot tall giant man, Sardu. Unfortunately, this disgraceful excuse for makeup read more like a muppet than the staggering appearance of a real life giant. The major problem with these prosthetics is that they literally can’t move. If you watch The Master talk during the show, his mouth only opens and closes, forming no syllables. Which brings me to another problem. WHY IS THE MASTER TALKING?!!?!!!!! In the books, he communicates with his vampire followers and humans alike via telepathy. If they stayed true to this, maybe the makeup wouldn’t have been half as shitty, because we wouldn’t have to see it in action. Just kidding…it would still suck. A quick fix to this makeup malfunction would have just been to keep The Master cloaked. Why display a poor makeup to millions of viewers when leaving our dark lord covered would have given a much more ominous presence? I try to look at the pictures of The Master and make excuses for it, but there’s really no saving this look. That nose. Those ears. Those eyes that practically show the actors actual skin beneath the eyeball. and worst of all THAT MOUTH THAT DOESN’T WORK!!!! I was SO pleased with the television efforts for The Stain until now. What a major buzzkill. I so desperately wanted pure fear when The Master was revealed. I wanted to feel like I was staring into the face of the monster in my closet, under my bed, in the scary furnace room in my basement. But I ended up staring at a poorly applied pull over mask. My suggestions to the current makeup artists on the show: Go to the nearest Halloween store and purchase a mask from there, because it’s sure as hell going to look better than your so called creation! #disappointed #bitter -#Sarah!
