NYX Matte Lipstick Swatch In Street Cred

NYX Matte Lipstick Swatch In Street Cred

Howdy! Once upon a time, when I didn’t always wear red or nude lipstick, I was a lot more adventurous with the shades that I would purchase. I had purples, silvers, and pinks – but then, the sad realization dawned on me that those colors didn’t look all that great. Now, I am stuck with the colors that I purchased a while ago that I wouldn’t wear in public if you paid me. Like, the following shade by NYX:

street2street1street3

^^^ Excuse the poorly drawn on heart, lol.

When my local grocery store began carrying NYX products, I went a little lipstick crazy. I don’t regret it, though, because that’s how I ended up finding my favorite shade of red. But, as far as Street Cred goes, I am not a fan.

THEN WHY DID YOU BUY IT?!?!

I told you I was more adventurous before! And, actually, pink shades used to look fairly nice on me when I had my natural brown hair. But, my, have the times changed. My complexion naturally has a lot of pink undertones to it. So, to combine my rosey skin with my red hair AND a pink lipstick? Ohhh no, no, no, no, no. I find pink to be a difficult lip color for people to pull off at the best of times – and, believe me, I am infinitely jealous of those who can (Because I sure as shit can’t!).

Although this shade and I will never get along, I will always say that NYX matte lipstick is the best ever. So, if you’re looking for a lovely pink to try out as the spring flowers bloom, then Street Cred might be the color for you!

How do you determine which color of lipstick to buy? What is your favorite drugstore or high end lippie? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

NYX Matte Lipstick Swatch In Perfect Red

NYX Matte Lipstick Swatch In Perfect Red

Heyy everyone and TGIF! My favorite brand of lipstick, hands down, is NYX – specifically in their matte shades. It is my genuine opinion that every high end and drug store brand, alike, pales in comparison to NYX as far as their lipstick goes. Their matte lippies are budge proof and the rich pigments in each shade is just gorgeous.

Despite having such high regards for NYX matte lippies, the shade Perfect Red is not my favorite. But, of course, I have to swatch it for those who might be on the hunt for the perfect shade of red for themselves. Take a look:

perf1perf3perf2

To be honest, this shade didn’t stand a chance against my go to shade of NYX’s Pure Red, anyway. You just can’t beat perfection!! I think what bothers me the most about the Perfect Red shade is the really blue undertones that I feel are lurking below the surface. It’s crazy, because any red that is too orange or blue in the undertones looks like shit on me. Don’t ask me why, it just does. I end up looking like a clown.

Then why is Pure Red so much better?!

I’m so glad you asked. I swear, NYX’s Pure Red has the perfect blend of orange and blue undertones so that neither outshines the other. When it’s those two colors mingling behind the red, I can pull it off like no other. Anything aside from the beautiful balance that is Pure Red does nothing for me. NOTHING.

Obviously, every shade of lipstick isn’t going to look good on me, even though I wish it would! But, I do think that this Perfect Red shade would look amazing 1) On a blonde or brunette and 2) On someone with a darker complexion than Fifty Shades Of Pale. So, in the meantime, this pasty redhead will be sticking to my old faithful, thank you very much.

Do you prefer a red lippie with an orange or blue undertone? Which shades of lipstick can you pull off the best and worst? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Blush, Baby – Tarte In Feisty Edition

Blush, Baby – Tarte In Feisty Edition

Hello! Although I am not huge on buying makeup outside of the drugstore, my favorite brand that Sephora offers is probably Tarte. I love the way that their products work and the variety of colors that they offer. My sister is the makeup queen in my family, and she gave me this hand me down Tarte blush that she never even used a few weeks ago! It is a tinge darker than what I usually go for, but it’s still pretty all the same:

feistyfeisty2feisty3

This Feisty blush actually reminds me of the exact shade that my mom would use when she did my makeup for skating competitions. Can I see myself wearing it in real life? Maybe in the fall, because I feel like this color would be gorgeous during that season. But for spring and summer, it just seems a bit too dark for me. There seems to be a really red undertone to this shade and with my hair and the pink undertones in my skin it all would be too much!

My sister, on the other hand, could get away with this shade because she is a bronze goddess so I’m not sure why she gave this to me. But, it doesn’t hurt to experiment and maybe come autumn I’ll have a new favorite shade.

What is your favorite brand that Sephora carries? Do you prefer dark or light blushes? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Blush, Baby – Maybelline Dream Bouncy In Fresh Pink Edition

Blush, Baby – Maybelline Dream Bouncy In Fresh Pink Edition

Howdy! After trying many a different brands of blushes over the years, my all time favorite would have to be Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy blushes. It is a cream blush and the best word to describe its texture really is bouncy. It’s soft, cushiony, and feels barely there lightweight on the skin. I have quite a few Dream Bouncy blushes in various shades, but my go to color from the start has always been Fresh Pink:

bouncy2bouncy1bouncy3

Besides for its seven dollar price tag (give or take) and its pillow soft texture, what I like best about the Fresh Pink color is that it’s great for layering and mixing. As I mentioned yesterday, I like to apply my lavender blush over this color for a flower field effect. I also enjoy layering a peach blush over top of it for a sweet mimosa shade. The Dream Bouncy blushes blend effortlessly and the color doesn’t budge all day, which is a wonderful bonus.

The nice thing about this blush is that, despite its brightness before applying, it goes on quite light – which is great. Too bright of blush looks clown-like on me and that is never a good look! The cream texture and soft pink coloring leaves my skin looking dewy and fresh. I always keep Fresh Pink well stocked in my makeup hoard and I use it every day that I wear makeup. Maybe she’s born with it? Maybe it’s Maybelline! 😉

What is your favorite drugstore brand of makeup? Do you prefer cream or powder blush? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Tarte Lip Paint Swatch In Rosé

Tarte Lip Paint Swatch In Rosé

Hey! Today we are going to wrap up my hand me down makeup haul from my sister with a swatch of my favorite new nude lippie color. I have been a HUGE fan of Tarte’s lip paint ever since I got the birthday blush and mini lip paint tube from Sephora FO FREE. I absolutely love both of them, and the lip paint that I received for my bday remains one of my favorite nude lippies. So, I was freaking THRILLED when my sister gave me the Tarte lip paint that she rejected in “Rosé”, a shade that’s only a hair darker than what I got for my birthday freebie. Take a look:

tartetarte2tarte3

Hmm… Why are there two heart swatches, you might ask?

ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN:

Okay, so after I finished taking my pictures, I went to the bathroom to wipe off the swatch. The first heart seen above is what I had taken when I first put the lip paint on. The second heart is what the product looked like after TWO rough scrubbings with a wet hand towel. The color had barely budged and is still on my hand as I’m writing this. Ah-freaking-mayzing.

I have my birthday lip paint, a red one, and this newest addition by Tarte and they have all proven to be as long lasting as what I just described. It wasn’t a fluke. If you are preparing on eating a five course meal but really want to wear lipstick, Tarte lip paint is what you should use. It. Doesn’t. Come. Off.

Does it get much better than that?

IT DOES:

Because this Rosé color is freaking gorgeous, dahling. It’s funny, because I stay very true to my favorite red lipstick, but I LOVE using different nude ones. Admittedly, I only like wearing a really specific shade of red because I know what looks best with my skin and hair. But you can play around with nude shades because a color a bit lighter or darker isn’t going to make or break your look. Rosé is probably the darkest nude lippie that I own at the moment and I am looking forward to wearing it throughout the rest of the winter for some fresh faced fabulousness.

Who else is a fan of Tarte lip products? What is your favorite shade? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Revlon Balm Stain Swatch In Crush

Revlon Balm Stain Swatch In Crush

Hey everyone and happy Monday! There were a few winners in my hand me down makeup haul from my sister. Others were…ehh not so much. Including the product being swatched today. Wow, great intro I know – BUT the only reason why this Revlon Balm Stain isn’t an enthusiastic maybe from me is because I. Don’t. Do. Purple! HOWEVER, I am not everyone so, of course, I had to give this product a swatch for the lucky ladies who can rock a purple lip! Take a look:

revlonrevlon2revlon3

I’ve owned a few Revlon matte lipsticks in the chubby shape, and have been pretty indifferent about them. The color is alright, but I always found that the product didn’t have a lot of longevity on the lips and it seemed to smear throughout the day. Not a good look. To elaborate on that further, this product wiped off almost instantly with a wet cloth so eating or drinking anything with this on is a definite no no. BUT, the nice thing about this balm stain is that it smells super minty, which is a fun bonus. 😀

Despite not being wild about how this balm stain works, I am a little disappointed that purple doesn’t look good on me. I think that this shade is SO pretty! The muddled blueberry color is really lovely. I do like berry shades with a red undertone to it, but this one is just so powerfully purple that I looked a hot mess when I was feeling saucy enough to see what it looked like on my lips. #notdoingthatagain!

In my opinion, there are definitely better balm stains available, but this Revlon shade sure is pretty and would make a nice pop of color to a more neutral makeup look.

Has anyone used any of the chubby shaped Revlon lip products before? What are your thoughts on them? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Swatch In Infinite Rose

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Swatch In Infinite Rose

Hellooo everyone and happy weekend! Although I am not the biggest makeup girl in the world, I do try to keep my tabs on brands that are considered good and bad. Unfortunately for Sephora, I have heard nothing but bad reviews about their products – which is fine because I wasn’t going to buy them anyways! BUT, my sister gave me a hand me down of one of their lip stains so I had to at least give it a swatch. And who knows, maybe I’ll try it eventually! Take a look:

sephora4sephora6sephora7

While swatching this lip stain, I didn’t come across any unpleasantness. It was quite the opposite, actually. Firstly, this product smells AMAZING. It seriously smells like cake batter… and mama loves her some cake. I also really like the color of this lip stain. It has more of a brown undertone to it rather than a pure pinky rose, which makes me way more keen on wearing it. I love dusty, dusky roses for lip colors on me but anything overly pink has GOTSTA GO.

The only thing that I wasn’t really impressed with was the drying time for this product. It took about five minutes to get to a point where a large amount wasn’t coming off on my fingers. And, even then, I could still see pigment on my phalanges from the stain. Ain’t nobody got time to wait that long for lip color to dry – especially someone who prefers products that are instantly matte.

Although the drying time was pretty long, this Sephora lip stain was really difficult to get off. I had to scrub a wet towel over the swatch twice to get the majority of it off and there is still some left over color visible on my hand. Lip products that don’t budge are always a good thing, so thumbs up for that.

I’m sure that I will break out this lip stain at some point during the spring. But, for now, I don’t feel overwhelmingly negative about Sephora’s “Infinite Rose” at all. It’s funny how one can be pleasantly surprised when they think that they are about to try out the worst product ever and it’s way better than expected!

How do you feel about Sephora’s line of makeup? What is your go to lip stain? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Swatch In Overachiever

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Swatch In Overachiever

Hiiii! This past week, my sister gifted me with some hand me down makeup to try out. Some I liked, others I didn’t, and some were so pretty that I had to keep just to do swatches on even if it didn’t necessarily work for me. I have never been a big lip gloss kind of girl. I remember being in my early teens and opting for lipstick instead of the gloss that all of my peers were smearing on their lips. I am not sure how I feel about trying it now, but I did have to put this bareMinerals lip gloss on my blog for prettiness’s sake. Take a look:

bareminbaremin3baremin4baremin2

^^^ The first heart is with the flash off and the second one is with the flash on.

First of all, this lip gloss smells SO. GOOD. It has this really creamy, pepperminty scent to it and I freaking love it. Second of all, I liked that this gloss wasn’t sticky because I feel like so many tend to be. The swatch on my hand wiped off cleanly with a dry towel and left no residue at all. I was impressed!

And, finally, let’s talk about the color. Initially, I feared that this shade would be too purpley for me if I ever chose to give it a try. In the container, it looks like a really deep plum. Therefore, I would be looking like a living dead girl within the first application. So, I was pretty surprised to see that on my hand the shade seemed to have a base that was more brown than anything. The purple tint really only came from the glitter thrown into the mix. And that glitter only seemed to pop compliments of my bright camera flash. I think that I might be able to work with that.

Of course, I will always gravitate towards using a red or a nude lipstick but trying a gloss on for size might not be the worst thing. I do know that I liked the consistency of this bareMinerals lip gloss, which is good to have in the back of my mind even if the color isn’t my favorite. Sticky gloss should be left in middle school and will never be gracing Lil Red’s lips any time soon!

Are you a lip gloss or lipstick girl? Who is a fan of bareMinerals products? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Naked Cosmetics Mother Nature Swatch

Naked Cosmetics Mother Nature Swatch

Howdy! The best part about having a beauty guru for a sister is that I get all of her reject makeup products that she doesn’t want anymore. Last week, she bestowed me with a Naked Cosmetics eyeshadow called Mother Nature, and after doing the swatch both wet and dry, I can totally see why! Take a look and let’s discuss:

nakeynakey4nakey2nakey3

^^^ The first heart is dry, the second is wet.

So when I originally looked at this eyeshadow, I didn’t really realize that there was a dark, glittery green sprinkled into the bronzey-brown color. It was actually until I took a wet swatch and a picture of the container with the flash on that I was able to see the green. Imagine my surprise when I did! I thought that this shade was just going to be another brown shadow to add to my collection, but I was so wrong. The green is a really fun surprise and it’s so cool that you can wear one eyeshadow two different ways depending on if it’s wet or dry.

I actually have yet to wear this Naked Cosmetics color because I’ve been sick but, when I do, I plan on wearing it wet as an eyeliner. The dry, brown color is just too light for my liking and there is nothing like a green eyeliner to make hazel eyes pop! I’m really excited to try it out! 😀

What is the most flattering eyeshadow/liner color for your eyes? Which other eyeshadows look totally different when wet or dry? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

NYX Liquid Suede Stone Fox Swatch

NYX Liquid Suede Stone Fox Swatch

Helloooo everyone and happy Sunday! I hope that all of you are having a lovely weekend full of fun, friends, and family. Today, I thought that we would talk about a lipstick that I have no genuine idea why I bought, but I figured it would be beneficial to someone out there to see the swatch for. We’re talking NYX’s Liquid Suede lipstick in Stone Fox. Take a looksee and let’s discuss:

nyx2nyx1nyx4nyx3

First of all, I love NYX products. My all time favorite shade of red lippie is NYX and I will be sure to write about it later, because it is divine. This shade for me, though? Not so much. I was stoked when the Liquid Suede line came out, because it offered an array of different jewel toned shades that all looked gorgeous. It also featured the color seen above, Stone Fox.

The Liquid Suede line came out at just the right time, because that’s when jewel tones and black/grey lipstick was becoming extremely popular. I had seen dark grey and black lippie shades all over the blogosphere, and I really wanted to give it a try. I am an emo kid at heart, and the idea of wearing a dark, almost costume style lip and have it be seen as fashion forward instead of weird was exhilarating to me.

Unfortunately, the exhilaration of the prospect of a charcoal lip was short lived. I tried this shade on at home and it looked like SHIT on me. Seriously, it looked like I smeared car grease all over my mouth and it was anything but fashion forward. It’s a damn shame, because all of the girls that I have seen rocking this trend look stunning. So, why not me? Well, there’s a few reasons:

  • This color looked a lot “much” with my face full of piercings.
  • This color looked abysmal when paired with my bright red hair.
  • And, at the end of the day, your girl was just not meant for charcoal lips.

Whomp, whomp.

In a desperate attempt to get this lippie off once I realized that it looked like I ate paint, I applied a lavender shade of chapstick over top of it, because this product doesn’t budge once it dries. Shockingly, the Stone Fox mixed with the lavender looked like a really pretty, smokey lilac and I loved it. BUT, ain’t nobody got time for that and despite liking the concocted color, it just wasn’t for me. That story was just an idea for the girls interested in giving this shade a go. YOU’RE WELCOME! :*)

I do like trying new lipstick colors but, true to my namesake, Lil Red will always love red lipstick the best! How do you feel about black and jewel toned lipstick? Could you pull off charcoal colored lips? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
