Best Girls Girl Time

Hello!! My nieces, Valerie and Raya, are two of the best things that have ever happened to me. They have been my little besties since day one and I love watching them grow, even though I’d prefer for them to stay little forever! Last Tuesday, I finally got to spend some quality time at my sister’s house for the ultimate girl’s night in. We play, play, played, danced, and ran around the house like crazy people! The best part, though, was playing dress up with my Val Gal:

Valerie is so much like me and it never fails to warm my cold, bitter heart. She is so funny, sassy, and kind and I love her creativity. Val has taken to her dance classes like a fish to water and is eager for her TT to teach her how to ice skate. Like her ol’ T, she also has a passion for fashion. Val selects her own outfits every day and I am always excited to see what she comes up with. Future OOTD blogger in the making? I think YES!

On Tuesday, Val wanted to get fancy and I was so there for it. She proudly showed me her jewelry box filled with her Disney Princess nail polish, necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories, and random artifacts and TT got to work. First, we played nail salon and Val selected her favorite colors of polish and the pattern she wanted for her nails and toes. Like me, she insisted on nail touch ups if they smudged while drying. I was so proud. ❀

Once her nails were to her liking, she let me do her hair and I was thrilled about that because she never lets me put her hair up. I have wanted to do space buns for her for forever and they turned out as adorable as I pictured them! After her nails and hair were on fleek, it was time to accessorize and, in this case, more was more. Val put on every single bracelet she owns and I helped her clasp all of her necklaces. The look was completed with a butterfly clip and a bow in her hair and my girl was ready to work it!

I like to think of this day as when Val learned the power of the confidence boost you can get when you are wearing something that makes you happy. By the time her OOTD was done, she was not merely walking but strutting! We worked on our runway walks and poses and my heart melted when she summoned her parents to check out our handiwork by saying “Mommy, daddy! Look at me! I’m so fancy!” Haha, that’s my girl. πŸ˜€

While Val and I played dress up, my mind went into a montage of us shopping, getting our nails done, and having girl time. It made me so happy and proud and these are seriously the moments that I live for. Val is most excited for our next slumber party because we plan on playing dress up again in TT and Uncle Johnny’s closet. I think she is going to lose her mind seeing all of our scarves, hats, and jewelry at her disposal! I can’t wait. ❀

What was your favorite thing to play when you were little? What makes you feel “so fancy”? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Skirt Alert

New Skirt Alert

Hello! Although it’s always a good time to go shopping, my favorite time to go is during the change of the seasons. I love checking out what’s in for the season and upgrading my wardrobe with a few staple pieces to get my closet feeling brand new again.

Seasonal shopping is fun but it’s even better with a friend! This past weekend, I hit the mall with one of my best girls, Danielle, as per our new tradition of going shopping together for season changes. We both didn’t walk away with much but I did get this super cute skirt from Dry Goods:

During my summer shopping trip with Danielle, she introduced me to a store called Dry Goods and I had lots of success there. We definitely had to go back during our mall visit last weekend and I knew that this skirt was a must have as soon as I saw it. This summer, I got really into wearing skirts thanks to a matching skirt and top set that I purchased at Altar’d State. I am particularly partial to mini bodycon skirts and love how flirty and fun they are, which is why this skirt screamed “Buy me!” immediately.

Because of all of the beautiful colors in this Originality number, it will be very versatile when it comes to styling. Rust orange, dark teal, mustard yellow, and burgundy are ideal autumn colors and who knew that they could look so good all together? Not me!

I couldn’t find a top that I liked to go with my purchase at the mall and am still on the lookout for one. So, for the time being, I plan on wearing my skirt with cable knit tights, a black crop top, mustard yellow cardigan, and heeled ankle booties. The beauty of this skirt is that it will work with any sweater, cardigan or top that matches the colors on the bottom making for endless outfit possibilities.

Thanks to my Fall Haul at TJMaxx with Johnny and my mall outing with Danielle, I think that I am pretty well set for fall clothing. Now, the only shopping I plan on doing is Christmas related… Unless I hit the stores with my favorites before then, of course! ❀

What is your favorite fall color? How would you style this skirt? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Reunited And It Feels So Good

Hello! After many a video chat dates with my BFF, Lea, we finally were able to reunite in person as she is fully vaccinated and Johnny and I just need our second shot. I had been looking forward to our real life reunion for several months and, needless to say, I was counting down the hours until I was done at work and could see my bestie again.

As always, Lea and I had a fabulous time girl talking, reminiscing, and laughing hysterically for hours on end and I felt so incredibly thankful for that time with her. It also gave me the opportunity to officially ask her if she’d like to attend my family only wedding ceremony! Throughout the pandemic, video chat dates with my friends helped keep me sane but there is nothing like seeing someone who you love so much in person after months of going without.

With so many of my family and friends getting vaccinated, it truly feels like a bright light at the end of such a dark tunnel. Seeing Lea was my first in person hang out with one of my friends since mid December and it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time because I had had a rough couple of days. Taking a break from my stress even for just a little while to go through a litany of all of the dorky things my BFF and I did in high school was the best thing for me.

I always say that every hang out with Lea is my favorite but this reunion definitely tops the charts. I cannot wait to get more real life hang outs scheduled in the books and I am so delighted for my best friend to be able to join Johnny, myself, and our families on my wedding day! ❀

Have you been able to reunite with any of your loved ones recently? What are some of your social distanced summer plans? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Holiday Haul: BFF Edition

Holiday Haul: BFF Edition

Hello! For as long as I can remember, my best friend of over twelve years, Lea, and I have had a Christmas gift exchange. Wine is poured, presents are unwrapped, and we spend the whole evening gabbing away about anything and everything. It is one of my favorite holiday traditions and I was so excited to see her during our hang out because, with the pandemic, we are lucky if we see each other once a month. Hanging out was a gift in itself but I am so in love with the thoughtful presents from my bestie. Check it out:

For birthdays and Christmas, Lea and I always gift each other with a bottle of wine. We have a long standing joke of saying “I wonder what this could be” because there is no way to wrap up wine without it being totally obvious about what’s underneath the paper! Not only do I love a Pink Moscato but I absolutely adore the black and white striped safety seal on the bottle that Lea picked out. She told me right away that she knew that I would like that and, of course, she was right on the money!

Not only did I receive vino but I was also gifted with Bath & Body Works foaming hand soap – my favorite! Nothing beats the holiday scents from B&BW and presents from there are also a huge staple in mine and Lea’s gift giving arsenal because we both know that we will use their products happily. An adorable new glass to enjoy my wine with and some homemade hand soaps wrapped up my haul and I am so thankful for all of the sweet and incredibly useful gifts from my best friend.

Lea and I both revel in the gift giving process of the holidays and I love being able to share in the season with her. I felt so happy after seeing her because she is and always has been a breath of fresh air in my life. She brings me so much joy and I have absolutely NO idea what I would do without her. Here’s to a million more Christmas hang outs together! ❀

How do you and your BFF celebrate the holidays? Do you have any “staples” in your gift giving arsenal? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Reunited And It Feels So Good!

Heyyy everyone and happy Friday!!! So yesterday I had a beautiful reunion with one of my dear friends, Neva. Miss Neva lived in the same assisted living home as my beloved late grandmother and in the time that my grandma lived there I grew very close to Neva. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago when I went to visit Neva I learned that she was hospitalized and I was not allowed any further information because I was not her immediate family. For all I knew, she could have been anywhere. Europe, New York, perhaps assisted living in Hendersonville, TN. The possibilities were endless.

The fact that I did not know where one of my best friends was at and what state of health that she was in simply killed me, so I continued to call the home that she used to live in and the administrators were able to tell me what city she was located in. With just a small lead to follow up on, I Googled the nursing homes that were based in the city that Neva was in and as luck would have it, the first place I called was where she was located at! So after my Inspector Gadget work, I plugged in the GPS into the Little Red Love Machine and headed off to see my darling Southern belle. “Reunited and it feels so good” is a complete understatement, because it was an absolutely gorgeous afternoon that we spent together….minus a few hiccups! Let’s discuss!

I found Neva’s new home after a few drives around a city that I wasn’t familiar with and I walked into the building with bated breath. I was afraid that I would find my friend in poor health or that she would be in a state that she would not recognize me. I took the elevator to her room with my breath held and a pounding heart and found my way to her room. When I found the room with her name on it I saw that it was empty, which made sense since it was lunch time. I decided to make my way over to the dining room and as I walked away from Neva’s room I passed a woman in a coral pink shirt with flowing gray hair. Every time I’ve seen Neva since I was a little girl, she had a blonde hair piece in, so I’ve never seen her natural hair. I walked past this mystery woman and something told me that I should turn around, just to do a double check. And lucky for me, as soon as I turned around, I saw that this woman was my Neva! I approached her with tears in my eyes and I’ll never EVER forget the way that she looked at me. It was a look of pure love, shock, and complete joy. I’m pretty confident that after she was relocated we both thought that we were never going to see each other again…So nothing was better than seeing her recognize me with the biggest grin on her face that was humanly possible – it was one of the most beautiful moments that I’ve ever had. After a million hugs hello, I was overjoyed to learn that she was happy and in excellent health and we then proceeded to spend the afternoon together.

Neva and I spent the afternoon laying in bed girl talking, sharing red velvet cake, and laughing our heads off. After some cuddle time I told Neva that I was curious about the rest of the rooms in her new home, so I took her for some laps around the floor that she lives on with her holding onto the crook of my arm. Unfortunately, we had a little mishap while she took me around the building for a grand tour. As we made our way around the labyrinth of hallways, there was a woman there who was having a really hard time maneuvering her wheelchair. She told Neva how much her hands hurt and I offered to push her back to her room so she could rest. The woman took one look at me and saw my piercings and bring red hair and said that “people who look like you go to jail” and she refused to let me help her because I would go to jail if I did. My feelings were hurt so badly that I can’t even begin to describe it to you guys, but in classic Lil Red fashion I gave her a big smile and told her to let me know if she changed her mind. After this upsetting encounter, I took Neva’s hand and we headed back to her room. We painted her nails and chit chatted some more when out of the blue Neva said, “you know honey, some people just don’t get it. But you do whatever you want. Whatever makes you happy.” I knew that she was referencing to the lady in the hallway and I instantly started tearing up. I told my dear friend that all I needed in her new living quarters was her approval – no one else. And with that, she told me that I’ve always had her blessing and we parted ways with a hug and a kiss until our next visit. ❀ ❀ ❀

I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much my reunion with one of my best friends meant to me and I’m simply thrilled to be able to share it with all of you. Despite the cruel comments of one person, I was able to bask in the presence of someone who shows me unconditional love and that’s all I really need! ❀
