Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots

My music obsession of the past few months has been none other than Twenty One Pilots. I love these Columbus boys so very much. (C-Bus Ohio – REPRESENT!) Their studio debut album, Vessel, is a strong one. It’s chock full of fan favorites including Holding On To You, Migraine, and Car Radio to name a few of the radio hits. But this album is so much more than a few radio singles. Literally EVERY track on Vessel is a solid effort in its own right. From the five minute first track Ode To Sleep to the two minute Truce to close the album, there’s not one song that I could do without. Our C-Bus duo has been labeled from alternative rock, indielectronica, to rap – but no matter what genre they dabble in, they always do it just right. Twenty One Pilots consists of Tyler Joseph repping a strong resume of talents including lead vocals, piano, keyboard, and synthesizer just to name a few. But we can’t forget about Josh Dun who helps out on background vocals and whose drumming is absolutely out of control. The fact that his drumming holds the same amount of energy and packs just as much of a punch as Tyler’s stunning vocals says a lot about his talent as a musician. And please, don’t even get my started on Tyler’s vocal ability, because I won’t be able to shut up. But okay, here I go. Tyler has the voice of an angel. His vocal range is INSANE. He can change from screaming, to classical loveliness, to rapping with the sickest flow ever at the drop of a hat. Honestly some of his rapping – specifically on Migraine, almost mimics early Eminem. These guys have SO MUCH TALENT, I really just can’t get over it. It’s funny because I had their album, Vessel, on my iPod for quite some time, with the intention of playing it eventually. But I didn’t start listening to it until Car Radio played when I had my music on shuffle. I was playing all 9000 songs I have on shuffle while I was in the shower and half way through, Car Radio started playing and I had no clue who it was. I had to hop out of the shower so I could figure out just who the hell this song was coming from. When I saw it was Twenty One Pilots, I immediately kicked myself in the ass for not listening to them sooner.

Do yourselves a favor and watch the video posted above. This is a recording of them playing Migraine in The Live Room. It will blow your mind. So so good.

Gone Girl – 100 pages in and LOVING it!

Gone Girl – 100 pages in and LOVING it!

I started to read Gone Girl, as I posted recently, and let me just say: I LOVE IT! I’m one hundred pages in so far and it’s just amazing. I’ve been so busy this past week that I’ve only had the chance to read a few chapters at night before bed, but so far so good! I’m really looking forward to having a binge reading session, because it’s such a page turner. When I put it down at night I almost get mad at myself for it. In the beginning of the book, I was very Team Nick, but now….not so much. I don’t think Nick went so far as to hurt Amy in any way….but I really am beginning to think that he had something to do with her disappearance. Every time I turn the page, he’s either lying to the police, talking smack about Amy’s family money, or Amy’s work ethic. Nick seems like such a bitter guy. I feel like he’s extremely unstable as well. All of these combined negatives about him are leading me to dislike every single thing he does, because I can’t tell if he’s lying or not now. I love the way Gillian Flynn alternates the chapters between Nick’s real life and Amy’s diary. It creates an almost back and forth banter between the two as each chapter goes by. It also makes it impossible to not read Amy’s diary entries after finishing up a chapter with Nick! I’m really looking forward to delving deeper into this book, because I feel like I’m just scratching the surface of all of the crazy stuff that’s about to happen!

How do you guys feel about this movie trailer? Who’s going to go see Gone Girl in theaters on October 3rd? I know I’ll be going as soon as I finish the book! -Sarah

I Love College

I Love College

In the words of the great Asher Roth….I love college. I love college and I haven’t even started yet. I went to the Tri-C campus this morning to take my prep placement course and my actual math and English placement tests. I don’t mean to toot my own horn or anything, but it went GREAT! It felt SO good to use my brain for educational purposes again. I haven’t thought about school related stuff since I graduated high school in 2012, and I honestly shocked myself at how easily I picked up a school pace again. The placement prep course was set up like an actual class, and it felt really good to be in a learning environment again, even if it was only for two hours. It felt awesome to be able to interact with a teacher, and to learn and share laughs with other future students. Math was never my strong point through out my high school career, but I apparently learned more than I thought I did, because I was able to recall a lot of algebra based problems that our professor was going through with us. That made me feel really good, because I was so worried that I had forgotten a lot of skills and knowledge after I graduated. It’s nice to know that maybe some of this college stuff won’t be so hard after all. The English portion of the prep course and the actual placement test was a breeze. I’ve always loved literature and creative writing, so it was right up my ally. I was pleased to find out I got placed in Beginning Algebra 1 for my math course and College Composition 1 for my English course. I’ve never really been proud of myself about much in life. But I’m genuinely proud of myself right now, and it’s a fantastic feeling. Happy Friday everyone! Learn something new. Do something fun. Be kind to one another. -Sarah

Lil Red Shopping Tips!

Lil Red Shopping Tips!

I thought it would be fun to write about some of my favorite stories to shop at, and I promise you, you can trust my judgement, because I’m an amazing shopper! I’ve grown extremely fond of Aerie over the past few years for all of my pantie and lounge wear needs. (I still frequent Victoria’s Secret for all of my bras, which I’ll discuss in a future post!) The panties at Aerie are just absolutely ADORABLE. Not only are they sexy, but you can ALWAYS get them for a great deal, as they usually run a promotion for seven pairs of panties for $26.95. Nothing beats that!

pantie1pantie2pantie3

I usually shop the Vintage Lace collection as pictured above. These are just a few of the options that you can shop in store and online. How cute are they?! Seriously, I love them. In fact, I think they’re above and beyond better in style and quality than the panties at Victoria’s Secret. Not only that, but they’re an amazing deal to boot! Don’t get me wrong about Aerie bras though, just because I don’t buy them, doesn’t mean they’re not beautiful and of great quality. I just need something a little more supportive in the bosom area, and a lot of Aerie bras fit more like a “t-shirt bra” or a “wear with everything” bra. They’re definitely made more for lounging around the house or running quick errands. I like to be 100% supported and locked and loaded at all times, so these braziers just aren’t for me. Aerie has a great selection of cute and comfy clothes too. These options range from sweet sweaters, tops, sweat pants, skirts, nightwear, and fun accessories. One of my favorite pairs of pants are actually from Aerie. They’re a pair of army green, ankle length skinny khakis and they’re too cute. All of Aerie’s clothing are great essential pieces to have. You really can dress them up or down and look great and feel comfortable either way. If nothing else, give Aerie undies a try. I can guarantee you they’ll be your pantie destination from now on!

You can check out their website right here: http://www.ae.com/aerie/index.jsp

Do I have any Aerie shoppers reading my blog? What stores do you guys like shopping at? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight and happy shopping! -Sarah

Last day of work!!!!!

Last day of work!!!!!

Well, today was the day. My final shift after a four year long career at PacSun! I started off as a mere sales associate in October of 2010, and ended as a full time assistant manager four years later. PacSun was my first job, and I’m so thankful that I had the opportunity to stay there as long as I did. I’ve made life long friends through the company, from my coworkers, to customers, to fellow employees in the mall. As sad as it was to finally leave, it was also a happy thing too. I’m finally going to go to college, and hopefully never have to work retail again. 😉 I’m extremely excited to see what my future holds outside of the company. I honestly feel like if I were to stay there any longer, college would be permanently put on the back burner. I am so proud of myself for being proactive in building a new future outside of my job. When you work at a place for so long, you almost feel stuck there. I was beginning to feel that way, and believe me, it wasn’t a good feeling at all. It felt amazing to take my future into my own hands, and decide what happens next. I’m so thrilled to start college at Tri-C in October, and am so ready to begin a new adventure! I’m forever grateful for everything that PacSun has done for me. From the time I was sixteen until now, I’ve had nothing but smiles and positive experiences. I don’t think that many people can say that about their jobs, so I feel very privileged to be able to say that about mine. In my featured image you can see a note that I wrote on one of our walls in the backroom. All of the employees who have left our PacSun family have wrote on that wall, and it was such a surreal experience to leave my mark on the Wall of Fame. Here’s my final PacFUN mirror pic selfie! It only felt right to take one 😉

Capital Cities

Capital Cities

One album that I can’t get enough of lately is Capital Cities’ In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery. I like these guys A LOT. And if the only song you know by them is Safe & Sound, then you need to up your game and give their whole album a listen. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing these guys through out the day when I’m at work at PacSun, as we play at least half of this album on our play list. My ultimate favorite song on the album has to be Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast. It’s so catchy, with an amazing beat. Both gentleman in the Capital Cities duo play the keyboard, and their talent for the instrument is just so evident on this song. The repetitive lyrics are so easy to get stuck in your head, and luckily this song is so enjoyable that you won’t even care.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgylZphRXqA (Here’s the official video for Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast)

One thing that I really like about these guys is the fact that their vocals are on point. Some bands that focus on an electronica/dance inspired sound sometimes lack vocally. But both Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian hold their own very well vocally. Their lack of auto tuned singing is so refreshing amidst a heavy synth sound. Another song that I really like off of A Tidal Wave would have to be I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo. At one point at work, we played a remix of this song, but I didn’t know it was a remix at the time. I was so pleasantly surprised to hear the original version on the album! Honestly, this song is so good it doesn’t need remixed at all. Nothing is better than the original, as they say! Try not to sing along to this jam, I dare you! I double dare you to not add in the high pitched “I sold my bed!” in the background of the refrain 😉

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXqqWbnboJ0 (Here’s the official video for I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo)

In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery is filled with extremely solid songs cover to cover. It always makes me super happy to hear their song Love Away in the newest Taco Bell commercials too. My favorite food combined with one of my favorite up and comers in one commercial makes for a very happy Sarah! When you listen to this album, make sure you really are listening. There’s so many fun pop culture references made through out a lot of these tracks that will be sure to make you smile to yourself when you hear them.

A music dream come true!!!

Oh my goodness guys I am SO excited!!!! It’s been a dream of mine to see AFI in concert for ages, and on October 14th that dream will come true! They’re playing in Pittsburgh, and my sister and I are making the trip up there to see them. I’ve loved AFI ever since I was eleven years old. Sing the Sorrow was one of the very first albums I ever bought. Their music is just so incredible to me, and the fact that I finally get to see them live after loving them for so many years makes me giddy!!!

^^ Do yourselves a favor and watch one of their performances of Miseria Cantare and The Leaving Song Part 2. I watched this the other day and it blew my mind. They sound EXACTLY if not better than how they sound on the album. It takes very seasoned performers and extremely talented musicians to achieve that. Another reason I’m insanely amped for this show is because of my undying love for Mister Davey Havok. Lord have mercy on me. I’ve been so madly in love with his fine self ever since the day I discovered their music. HE’S SO GORGEOUS!!!!!!

IMG_0550[1]

HOLY MOLY!!!! He’s so beautiful. I will find him at the concert. And I WILL make sweet, passionate love to him. And you can take that statement to the bank! Where are all of my AFI fans at on here? Comment me your favorite song or album by them! Happy Hump Day! -Sarah

The Strain – part two!

The Strain – part two!

It’s no secret to my followers on here that I’m a bit of a TV show fanatic. My recent obsession has been The Strain, on FX. I deeply enjoyed reading the trilogy penned by Chuck Hogan and Guillermo Del Toro, and the show has been smooth sailing up until the MAJOR makeup disappointment this week. Any of you who watch the show will hopefully know I’m referring to the SHAMEFUL display of makeup on The Master, as seen below:

thestrain

LORD HAVE MERCY ON ME!!!!! I could have done a better makeup job than that!!!!!!!!!! If any of you have read the trilogy, you’ll know that The Master sounds absolutely horrifying. His looks can only be described as a nightmare come to life. Very often in the book his face is masked by a cloak, which can be seen in my featured image, but when his face is shown, the characters are known to stop in their tracks and stare into his eyes….essentially staring into death. The books leave the descriptions of his appearance fairly vague, because he can jump from one host body to the next at will. The unknown is what makes him so scary. At this point in the television series his host body is a seven foot tall giant man, Sardu. Unfortunately, this disgraceful excuse for makeup read more like a muppet than the staggering appearance of a real life giant. The major problem with these prosthetics is that they literally can’t move. If you watch The Master talk during the show, his mouth only opens and closes, forming no syllables. Which brings me to another problem. WHY IS THE MASTER TALKING?!!?!!!!! In the books, he communicates with his vampire followers and humans alike via telepathy. If they stayed true to this, maybe the makeup wouldn’t have been half as shitty, because we wouldn’t have to see it in action. Just kidding…it would still suck. A quick fix to this makeup malfunction would have just been to keep The Master cloaked. Why display a poor makeup to millions of viewers when leaving our dark lord covered would have given a much more ominous presence? I try to look at the pictures of The Master and make excuses for it, but there’s really no saving this look. That nose. Those ears. Those eyes that practically show the actors actual skin beneath the eyeball. and worst of all THAT MOUTH THAT DOESN’T WORK!!!! I was SO pleased with the television efforts for The Stain until now. What a major buzzkill. I so desperately wanted pure fear when The Master was revealed. I wanted to feel like I was staring into the face of the monster in my closet, under my bed, in the scary furnace room in my basement. But I ended up staring at a poorly applied pull over mask. My suggestions to the current makeup artists on the show: Go to the nearest Halloween store and purchase a mask from there, because it’s sure as hell going to look better than your so called creation! #disappointed #bitter -#Sarah!

Oh you crafty huh? Part two!

Standard

I had a lovely time hanging out with one of my dear friends Tyler today. One of our favorite things to do when we hang out is indulge in a bottle of wine and get nice and crafty! Here’s the results and the how to’s of our fall inspired creation today!

IMG_0563[1]

All that’s needed for this craft is:

  • mason jar
  • acorns
  • rope
  • candle holder
  • candle

Here are the steps for making this cute little craft, even though it’s pretty self explanatory!

  • Acquire acorns! Go to your nearest hiking trail or even your backyard and turn into a human squirrel and collect as many acorns as needed to semi fill your mason jar.
  • Place the candle holder with candle into said mason jar. Tyler and I purchased a taller candle holder and a tea light candle, and the acorns fit very nicely around them.
  • Fill your jar with as little or as many acorns as you’d like. I’d recommend filling it a little more than halfway so you get a nice effect from the candle light peeking out of all the nooks and crannies of the acorns piled on each other.
  • Tie the rope around the top of the jar for the final touch.
  • Light your candle, dim the lights, and enjoy your new fall themed candle jar!

And there you have it! Simple as that. A ten minute craft gave Tyler and myself a fun new autumn decoration! If you guys have any quick and easy fall crafts, let me know! Have a great night! -Sarah

Dancing With the Stars

Dancing With the Stars

Middle Aged Monday is upon us again, with another solid episode of Dancing With the Stars tonight. Season 19 is starting out strong with a cast full of fun contestants. Not only do we have a great new cast, but we also have a new judge, Miss Julianne Hough. I absolutely adore her, as does my dad 😉 she’s just so talented and sweet, and she’s not hard on the eyes either! My personal fan favorite so far is Mr. Alfonso Ribeiro, best known as Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That man has swag. He has great musicality and he can really move! His partner, Witney is just fabulous as well. Her choreography is outstanding. Who knew that Alfonso could bust a move other than “the Carlton”?! My dad and I are also having a blast watching Tommy Chung, “the original stoner” perform. His partner in crime, Cheech makes guest appearances through out the show as well, so it’s always a riot watching both of them together. Tommy Chung is 76 years old, but he’s so young at heart! He doesn’t move like a senior citizen, that’s for sure. The fact that he can keep up with his partner, Peta Murgatroyd’s choreography is mind boggling…the fact that he somehow manages to look great performing the choreography is a natural phenomenon all on its own. I seriously live for Monday nights. I enjoy and value the time with my dad so very much. I really lucked out today because I was originally supposed to close at work, but my coworker asked me to switch with her, so I got to open the store and be home this evening to indulge in my Middle Aged Monday treat. Who are your favorites so far on the show? Who do you dislike? Any early predictions on who’s going to take home the Mirror Ball Trophy this season? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah
