Vintage Fruit Basket

Hello!! My style of home decor is basically if Halloween and a thrift store threw up lol. I, of course, love my spooky decorations and am very partial to quirky statement pieces that probably belonged to someone’s grandma. I treat my home decor like my clothing – I want the items that no one else has and the latest decorations I was gifted definitely take the cake. I would be hard pressed to find anyone in my general vicinity with this funky Vintage Fruit Basket! Check it out:

My client’s mom has been on a decluttering binge and always asks me if I would like anything before she takes it to Goodwill. The most recent being this “fruit” basket that her mom gifted her with for Christmas decades ago. My answer to taking it home was a resounding YES because seriously how could I not?! Just look at those little faces! This fruit basket simply delights me and it reminds me so much of the refrigerator food in Pee Wee’s Playhouse. Every time I see it puts a smile on my face and the old saying really is true: One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure.

I mentioned that I love quirky statement pieces and I think the statement doesn’t get any quirkier than this. And the best part? I don’t ever have to worry about this fruit going bad! If I saw this at a thrift store, it would have been in my cart without hesitation and I couldn’t wait to get home and show Johnny our “new” centerpiece. I can recall being enamored with this fruit basket when I worked with my client over a decade ago and completely forgot about it until I saw it again. We are reunited and it feels so good and I feel so spoiled to have been treated to this vintage masterpiece. The orange and banana are my fave!

So fruity and oh so fun – I am going to treasure this for forever!

Have you had any good thrift store finds recently? Do you go vintage shopping or antiquing often? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
