Choosing A Style That Feels Right For Your Home

There are so many websites that are filled with beautiful home decor. It’s not even just online either, as you’ll find plenty of ideas just by visiting department stores, checking out magazines, look books, and watching TV. With so many options for your home decor, it can feel overwhelming!

Nowadays the consumer is having to deal with new styles and trends being thrown at them constantly and home decor is a part of this too. Do you know about fast fashion and how new fashion trends come out almost monthly? It’s the same for interior decor too. This can make it incredibly difficult to figure out what’s best for your home when products are changing rapidly.

Today, we are going to look at some tips to help you figure out your own personal style when it comes to home decor – no HGTV or fleeting trends required:

Create a list of what you like:

One of the best stepping stones into figuring out what feels right for you would be just stopping for a moment, reflecting, and writing it all down. You should ask yourself what type of style you enjoy. Some examples of interior design styles include Minimalist, Scandinavian, and mid century modern. Examine what you like and what you could do without. An example could include “I like the mid century modern design because of the soft edges it brings into a room”.

Think about what you’d like to change in your home:

Is there anything that you’re hoping to change in your home? This can include adding something extra or removing anything. It could be one space in your room or multiple changes around the entire house. Maybe you’re interested in a Bend Window for your living room or an open plan for your house. Thinking about the changes you’re wanting in your home could help to lead you in the right direction of the styles that feel right for you.

Think about your location:

Did you know that the location of your home is going to affect your home design? If you live somewhere such as a rural area, then your home is most likely going to be decorated differently compared to living in a suburb or city. So why is this? It’s similar for interests and even fashion. It’s whatever is available but it’s also what’s pushed. Home decor stores in rural areas are going to be far less likely to sell industrial home decor and will most likely sell rustic farmhouse decor. So maybe you never truly discovered your style because of the location of your home and where you’re shopping at.

Check out what’s in your closet:

No matter what style you have in your closet, there is a chance that it will reflect on your home decor style as well. It may sound a bit odd but it can work! Whether you’re looking for a timeless approach or just need a decent step in the right direction of furnishing your home, the items in your closet can help you out. Interior design and fashion can truly go together, hand in hand.

Go to your closet and take a good look at what’s available. Do you notice a pattern with colors or fabrics? Are there any repeated features that you’re seeing? Do you see any common traits at all? If you’re a person who wears mostly dark colors, then you’re more than likely to enjoy reflecting this in your home as well.

For home decor and fashion alike, it should reflect your personality and how you feel. Once you understand your own personal style, the decorating process should come easily!
