Hello everyone and happy Monday! When it comes to Marilyn Manson, people either love him or they hate him. I’ve honestly never met anyone who was like “yeah, he’s just okay”. Myself? I absolutely one hundred and fifty percent freaking LOVE him. His music, his art, his style, his speaking voice, his devil may care attitude peppered with a childlike love for metal lunchboxes. He really is just mesmerizing to me.
My above profession of love shouldn’t come as a shock. You all know by now that I’m an emo kid at heart so, of course, I have a major soft spot for Marilyn Manson. And now, after literal years of being a fan of his, I finally get to see him in concert for his Heaven Upside Down tour at the end of the month. My sister and I will be venturing to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Stage AE to see Ohio’s own on stage doing what he does best: Performing that strange, beautiful heart out. I. Can’t. Wait.
We have all heard the rumors and stories about what goes on at a Marilyn Manson concert. We’ve seen the fake affidavits penned by various family councils. We’ve heard Manson’s name come up as the scapegoat for a litany of adolescent problems time and time again. Needless to say, he is a bit much. He is not everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s okay, because he is a man that is so uniquely himself that the last thing he needs to worry about is pleasing everyone. So, despite the stories and slander, he has me hooked.
I have no idea what I’m going to be walking into on September 29th for this show. Is it going to be as wild and disturbing as the concerts described in his autobiography, The Long Hard Road Out Of Hell? Or will we see a more toned down version of Marilyn Manson as he nears fifty years of age and has cut back on drinking absinthe – his favorite. I’m about to find out, and if the anticipation doesn’t kill me first, then I’ll be back to report on the show here on lifewithlilred!
So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Excited AF Edition! What concerts do you plan on seeing soon? What was the last concert that you went to? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

I like his music, but I’m not a fan of his videos; those are a bit much for me. A couple months back, I got to see Metallica, Volbeat, and Avenge Sevenfold in concert. Best show ever! And about a month after, I saw Iron Maiden and Ghost. That was a good show too! I’m interested in your experience at the Manson show though. Can’t wait to read about it. π

I’ve seen Manson twice and each time I’ll never forget. This was years ago so I hope he still has the same energy! He involved Pyrotechnics into the show and the crowd loved it. I hope you have fun at the show. You’re right people either love him or hate him. I went with my sister and she HATED it while I was loving every minute of it!

I’ve been to see him a couple of times, but that was back in the early days. I throughly enjoyed the gigs, loving both the showmanship and energy on stage as well as the atmosphere and audience participation. I’ve heard that his performances are somewhat lacklustre in comparison these days however given that he’s no longer in his 20s and is no longer new to the scene, it’s hardly surprising that he’ll have slowed down a bit, be less enthusiastic and become jaded towards the music industry. I’m sure you’ll have an absolutely amazing time and I shall look forward to reading about your experience. I’d definitely go and watch him play again if I could. Sadly gigs are too much of a struggle for me these days though.

I would give ANYTHING to be able to time travel and see some of his early shows, I am so incredibly jealous. I’ve heard his Heaven Upside Down tour has been described as “family friendly” so I hope he does something crazy to toughen it up lol I’m trying not to go in with any expectations because that’s when I end up getting disappointed and I constantly have to remind myself “he’s almost fifty” as the reasoning behind what might be a toned down performance. We’ll see what happens!!

Many, many moons ago my penfriend Tina got me writing to a chappy called Brian Warner. We wrote for a few years but lost touch when I moved. A few years later I found out he and his band had become successful.

I do have a few of my old letters packed so itβs possible. Iβll let you know if thereβs any from him when Iβve finished my unpacking. I do clear a lot of stuff out each time I move though and Iβve moved 7 times since 1992!

I haven’t heard anything of his for years but totally have an appreciation for the dude! He does not give a single fuck what people say about him. He does what he wants and is the person he wants to be. Definitely something to admire. Not everyone is brave enough to be/do/dress how they want. Excited to read your update and hope you enjoy the show!

His most recent album, The Pale Emperor, is absolutely AMAZING. It’s a really unique sound for him, because he ventured into this rough, bluesy type of vibe that worked really well. His upcoming album, Heaven Upside Down, is coming out October 6th so I’m pretty excited!
But, yes. He is so himself in every way and it is definitely something that should be admired. It takes balls! Not only that, but the guy is smart as hell. I love reading interviews with him and watching when he makes appearances on television because he’s incredibly well spoken, which is something people probably don’t even realize. AND HE’S A TOTAL BABE!!!!! haha

Ahh, I used to ADORE Marilyn Manson! I’d still count his autobiog as one of my favourite non-fictional reads.
I saw him live in 2005, where a guy I didn’t know – who eventually become my boyfriend – put me on his shoulders so I could see his performance with a perfect view.
I’ve been loving gigs since 2004, and my last one was the South West Four festival where I saw Pendulum perform for the 4th time.

Ugh his autobiography is so incredible and that is the best story ever!! Are you two still together?? Thank Marilyn Manson for that π

We aren’t together anymore, no! I was sixteen at the time (twenty-eight now) and he lived too far away for teenage me so we eventually broke up! It wasn’t a bad break up though, so no hard feelings. I just appreciate the memories!
